looking for a bit of a confirmation on a build before I go out and throw down $2000+ on it:
MSI Z87-G45 GAMING ($160) 2*600W power supplies (full 600w on 12V) ($40 each BEFORE a $15 MIR) cheap celeron processor (about $50-70) 2x2gb ram ($40) 6x Sapphire R9 270X dual-x ($240 each) 6x usb risers ($25 each)
USB w/ BAMT keyboard mouse monitor
Does this look like a good build? Ive read the sapphire cards can be pushed into the 450-480 khash range, so 2.7Mhash/s for about $2250. ($0.80/khash) I plan to use either a milkcrate or a shoerack and a few zipties to hold everything in place.
My biggest concern is of being late to the game. scrypt ASICs are close, and will offer about 1/10th the power draw. I expect these to roll-out on a large scale in the next 2-3 months. The GPU rig would require about 6-9 months to break even - maybe 3-4 months if mining doge, having BTC value rebound, and considering a 50% resale value on the components to gamers.
Seems expensive to me.. I'm running 4 x 280x's which gets me about 2.7 and I paid less then 1700 for everything along with a 5 slot mobo, 2x700w psu. I did have an extra hard drive, and ram though. I also didn't waste money on usb risers either..

USB risers are anything but a waste of money. Unless you like annoyingly short ribbon cables for some reason... They are a $20 (well, less considering you still need $10+ ribbon cables) addition that makes the difference between a ghetto rig and a pro setup.

+1 I am planning in USB risers because a) they will last longer because there is no flimsy ribbon cable for it. b) they look better - The rig wont be a centerpeice, but it will hopefully be visually appealing.

You should be able to get 800+ on those cards each.
settings, please? I can't get over 740 with mine, MSI has been a much better performer for me than sapphire dual-x or gigabyte windforce Dont belive every troll who doesnt know shit. Your cards generally are not able to do clocks which are needed for 800+khs. You need minimum 1160/1800 for that. Besides, pushing 280x to its limits not even closely efficent anymore. Those cards will consume way over 280W each and will be insanely hot when you push them like that. As a result fans would not survive over 3 months. Its a common flaw of several cards, If fans are running high rpms. You should be able to get 800+ on those cards each.
settings, please? I can't get over 740 with mine, MSI has been a much better performer for me than sapphire dual-x or gigabyte windforce 800+ is impossible. My elcheapo MSI 280X only gets 688kH, because it's crappy core only does 980MHz stable. 720kH is the normal top-end speed of these cards, 800kH is a drug-induced hallucination. It is possible and I've been doing it with multiple rigs for a long time now. You should really do some research... I do overclock the cards but there is nothing wrong with that. Also please note, I undervolt them before I overclock them even They run cool... just fine. https://litecointalk.org/index.php?topic=14339.msg111704#msg111704All my settings, screenshots, etc. are there. I have a 6 card rig and a 4 card rig running similarly. Getting the proper BIOS flash, then undervolting it are great ways to get good kh/s and run on less power. You should be able to use the same BIOS on your cards that I'm using on mine... This image below is old and was taken after the rig was running for 24 hours... This image below shows sgminer which has been running for 12 days or so... so don't tell me about stability. Its also in a room with a pretty hot ambient temperature and you can see the cards are staying plenty cool.. and.... one more pic.

They are USB Block Eruptors 333.6Mh/s Rev3.0, I eventually want to get 5 Ant miners, there was a Ant miner sell on ebay but when the intventory begin to run out the seller upped the price from $60 USD to $80USD and I couldn't get it when I was finally to have some of the cash. The only one I got lucky with was a Lot of 3 USB Block Erupters for around $50 USD.
The Power Supply that I am using can handle 5 USB Devices alone. it is from a old Linksys Wireless B 5V 2.5A
So does that heat tunnel work?

elchorizo, For heaven sake, read the thread before you make your post. You are running DC2T and Toxic´s! Those cards can do 1140/1800. Majority of 280x cards can not.
Besides. Those cards fans are screaming loud at 70+ %. Of course, its possible to do 800s with proper setup. If its worth to spend so much more money and power cost on Toxic cards for gaining additional 50-60khs is another story completely.

* elchorizo sighs.... OK Mr. Internet Expert You may want to tell your buddy that the Dual-X is identical to the Toxic except for the fan setup. In fact, he can flash the same Toxic BIOS I'm using onto his card and it will work just fine. And I find 2800-3000 RPM @ 72 degrees to absolutely not be "SCREAMING" as you put it. You guys make me laugh. I won't bother wasting my time trying to help people out in this thread anymore. The information is out there if you are to lazy to find it and utilize it, thats on you. Everything I've said above has been said at litecointalk.org many times.

Good, we didn't ask for you help in the first place. If I gave blatantly false information, made a retarded comment and then got smacked down with truth and fact I might make a statement similar to the one you just made above. I realize you are probably a child and don't know how to act in this situation. I guess you must try and save face in any means necessary. The alternative is to learn from your peers and take the information and assistance offered gracefully. Have a great day and I hope that I have given the original poster that I replied to the information needed to get closer to the hash rates that other owners are getting (775-810) which is a huge improvement over the 710/720.

Glad to hear it. The BIOS flash makes the largest difference. It really takes all the voodoo we used to have to go through out of the equation. The reason why rates were all over the board before and why some settings would work for one person but not another were because of the BIOS vs. memory timing differences. Thanks to The Stilt's modified BIOS's though that isn't really an issue. Between that, sgminer and modified .cl files people are getting stable rates much higher then ever previously all while using less volts. It has been an exciting few months for gpu mining I'm not an expert, I'm just a guy pushing a lowly 15MH/s

Toxic uses Hynix H5GQ2H24AFR memory modules, which easily clock to 1800ish. Dual-x uses cheaper Elpida EDW2032BBBG modules, which can not do 1800ish. Besides their VRMs and voltage controllers are different. Cross flashing bios may work, but may fry your card as well.

So does that heat tunnel work? Yup it keeps them cool Very well. They don't get Hot At all. Also with this I can always make the tower bigger for more USB hubs and more USB ASICs. The Reason why I am started with Block Eruptor Asic Miners is they are Cheap to get for now to get because I can't afford to much with cash, For most of the mining that I have done before I was stuck with CPU Mining and 1 GPU on my Gaming Rig.

Yeah, I've got two different kinds of Gigabyte 280x.
The F60 ones with Elpida RAM crap out around 740KH/s. Some can go to ~750 or so, but 740 is what all of them run at. This is after weeks of tuning, BIOS mods, tweaking, and they finally run @ ~63C.
The F70 ones have Hynix RAM, and the slowest one is 760kh/s. Most can run at least ~1115/1500 for 775kh/s, and some can go to 810. We have to push them to 1145/1810 to get 805kh/s. If you can get to 1800 RAM, you're golden. Most cards, even the Hynix ones, won't go to 1800 while still stable. Temps are ~67C.
So yes, both parties are right. It is possible to get >800kh/s on a 280, but it's not feasible for EVERY 280x to hit those numbers.
