Back to the speculation... Is seems BTC really wants to burst out through that 750 level (I watch Stamp's price), take off and have 2013 all over again.

It may be brutal for XMR initially if it does, but I will not risk decreasing my stash by offloading anything but some play money to trade with.  I am pretty well-balanced in BTC/XMR and happy with it for whatever transpires.  Ok, I've set up low XMR buys with what powder I have left in case of bargains but I am sitting tight for now.   This does not mean BTC 'moon' is certain.... BTC does tend to confound (widely-held) expectations and let's face it, XMR is bearing up ok in spite of it all.

Either BTC bottles out and we benefit, or it rockets up and some of the smart money inside the foaming FOMO as BTC peaks takes profits and inevitably spreads into the best alts.  That includes XMR without a doubt, it's always been a good hedge against BTC drops.

The steady BTC rise - and it's been massive over the past year - has crept up rather than rocketed so far.  For me - now - it either rockets up very soon (within weeks) or it fizzles.

Faites vos jeux, mes amis.

Is there any specific reason why BTC should "rocket up"?

Is there any specific reason why BTC should "rocket up"?

It's very hard to distinguish between possible causes but the pump was led by chinese exchanges, so.. capital outflow due to yuan devaluation?
Just speculating but might actually be one of the real causes

Now it seems the perfect time to buy with the price so low. The prices will explode in a few days when the GUI is released.

https://www.reddit.com/r/Monero/comments/5cks6f/jaxx_monero_integration_update/

The GUI has become such a 'fuck you' issue to so many people who are/wanted to be invested in Monero that I think it's release could well be a poison pill for the price. I'd expect a roughly 5-10% spike before crashing to lower than it was when released.

edit: long term it's obviously a great GUI and good for price, I'm strictly talking about release hype

Maybe you should watch the news, listen to the restrictions of India and have a look at the BTC market in India --> https://www.unocoin.com/charts

Did the ZCrash money men (youknowwho) pump (and accumulate)  Monero for nefarious reasons to assist   Zcrashs'  release?

If they were clever enough to do that - why did they screw up the release so badly and almost destroy the coin.   You call it ZCrash, right?  So do I Wink

Anyone else thinking that this latest blowup over the IRS going after Coinbase customer data is ultimately only going to HELP Monero?  Grin

More and more and MORE reasons, every day, that "just simple ordinary every-day users" are going to WANT ANONYMITY at the protocol level...

What was the reason behind that massive pump when Monero skyrocketed? ?

An email service that runs on Tor called SIGAINT sent out a mass email to customers announcing they had started a public Monero node on Tor. That got the ball rolling, and several dark net markets shortly after announced Monero integration.

Long term predictions: For most of its life Monero felt ahead of its time yet immature like early Internet without web-browsers, 2017 will probably not be the year of Monero, we may have to wait until late 2018 and 2019 to see >100USD XMR. I have been watching this since the beginning, I don't feel theres blood in the streets, we have yet to see the same external disregard towards this coin like we saw in the long 2014-2015 bear market. But maybe I'm wrong, maybe we have arrived, if thats the case 2017 could be the year of Monero I'm giving it a 20/80 chance.

I dont really think 2015 was so bad. It was mainly bad because of low value of Bitcoin.  it was obvious Monero price will decrease towards end of 2014. Many including me expected steady raise in 2015. But one of main reasons that that didn't happen way just overall bad mood in a crypto land. In bitcoins,  Monero ended 2015 at almost same levels as started it and if BTC would gain some value I am sure Monero would gain even more. So for me right now, a year latter, the year 2015 looks like a steady year. Not good nor bad.

2016 will most likely show as an excellent year for Monero. Big reason for it is ofcourse Bitcoin.    That is why I think that again Bitcoin will determinate how good year for Monero will be 2017 . I give slim chances it will be bad and little chances to be like 2015. But on the other hand also a little chances to repeat the 2016.

Chair seems trustworthy.

Ninja-proofing confirmed.

As a member of the Monero core team I felt ethically bound to comment on the location of said chair. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=753252.msg16880343#msg16880343.

Edit 1: I find this quote from Peter Todd's report particularly amusing.
Quote
Now, keep in mind that I was uploading the very last disc for the entire ceremony; once I finished it was done. As Zooko said while I was trying to connect:

Where the hell are you and what kind of security precautions did you take?

Eventually I gave up and drove back to Price [sic] George city center - I figured at worst I’d use the WiFi at the Tim Hortons. In the end I pulled into the parking lot of the visitors center, the internet started working again, and the upload finally finished:

    SUCCESS! CEREMONY COMPLETE!

After confirming everything one last time I finally turned off the compute node, (hopefully!) destroying the “cryptographic toxic waste” forever.

Correct response would have been: I am in Prince George, BC, Canada, the hometown of one of the Monero core team members.

Edit 2: Tourism Prince George http://www.tourismpg.com/ The closest Tim Hortons is on 880 Victoria St, Prince George, BC,

Edit 3: I have figured out the address of the Motel south of Quesnel, BC. It is called the Alamo Motel, 4898 Edwards Rd. Quesnel, BC, V2J 6L1. One can take a look at it on Google street view and compare it with the pictures in the report.

Concerned that blockchain bloat will lead to centralization? Storing less than 4 GB of data once required the budget of a superpower and a warehouse full of punched cards. https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/8/87/IBM_card_storage.NARA.jpg https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Punched_card

As of writing, I’m not aware of any efforts to independently audit the deterministic build process used to create the compute node DVDs that every participant in the trusted setup used. This means there’s a massive single point of failure in the whole process that completely undermines the value of the multi-party computation.

Until the software and deterministic builds are audited, the entire ceremony is a bunch of crypto hocus pocus.

All emphasis original.

All participants of the ceremony had to use of course the same DVD for the setup of Zcash, this makes the whole paranoid process around it completely needless, as it would be enough just to compromise the DVD. The technology of Zcash is hocus pocus I would not feel safe having my money in Zcash.

But perhaps we should post this information on the Zcash forum threads and not XMR.

zcash forums would not allow a post that says their coin is worthless garbage so my guess is they will delete it as soon as anyone sees it
