XMR is showing some reversed head and shoulder pattern on the 1-day and 4-h chart, this could be a nice bullish breakout. Smiley

Heh, okay folks... just dove in to try this (insert Hunter S. Thompson voice quote here, "Yeah... Why Not?") Cheesy

That download is a nice simple zipped file with a single *.app inside... I unzipped it and moved to my own custom "Programs" folder on OS X (I don't always keep stuff in the main designated Apple "Applications" or "Utilities" folder).  Double click to run and "authorize" to OS X that it's from the Internet (yeah yeah okay I know it's a risk...)

So far running fine, started up clean and seems A-OK... so far... knock on wood...

I have not actually tried any transaction yet however... will do that ASAP (don't have any free XMR at the moment, all my long term Moneroj are in cold storage)

Here's a screen shot for the curious:

P.S. Anyone impatient with me testing an actual transaction wanna send me ten cents worth or something, here's the address of screenshot above in text format : 46Gj6yyxcDCHEPCuqma5wKLWKKjZAyfqGCtTj79TLNqW2hhGZ8FmHHpEMwpNYGFRbyB82PLVgWRzEak ZggXirGv72EYLF1u

P.P.S. What does "Network Status - Disconnected" down in the lower left mean?  I'm not actually able to send/receive until the whole XMR Blockchain is downloaded maybe?  Just guessing here but if so that needs to be made more clear to the user I think...

Looks great! But honestly, I'm used to the CLI wallet.
I hope CLI wallet will still be available after the GUI has been released.

I think (based on hunches) it's the failure of the much-expected BTC run that is prompting people to look for fun elsewhere.  It really doesn't feel like BTC will moon now - too much Segwit / possible infighting over it to fuel the run and even a dump looks possible.

So, Zcrash has been allowed out to play again to the fools gallery, but the smart money sees XMR with its possible GUI 'good news' story Soon™, as well as its historic XMR /BTC inverse relationship hedge appeal, meaning we are looking sweet.

However...  I still think we don't moon yet.   My gut feeling is we won't go much over 0.0125 if we reach that high - and even if we do, a new real run to ATH levels will not be until spring.

That said - keep an eye out, coz if BTC really crashes in December?  All bets are off and we might just have a better XMRmas than ever.

Personally I'm range trading trying to cost average down a touch and increase my stash a little.  I am pretty evenly balanced BTC / XMR, but glued to the screen. Trading this volatility is good fun whatever happens....

I agree, Whenever a BTC run stalls or backslides XMR is the place to be.

Still Bullish but expect sideways as well.

From the Trollbox in Polo -
"JaxxJohn: OaktreeCapital, yes, we are currently working with fluffyponyza to get integration finished. I should have some more updates soon Cheesy"

It seems Jaxx and Fluffy have finally combined forces.  Good days for Monero

Jaxx wallet (supposedly) a bit closer to completion.

JaxxJohn: ...yes, we are currently working with fluffyponyza to get integration finished. I should have some more updates soon Cheesy

Really hoping I can pick up a few more coins before we have working GUI wallets up and running, because I believe this is one of the only things holding XMR back at this point.

This is what I feel too about BTC, and it feels like a lot of people are in denial about the potential impact of what looks like an inevitable stalemate re SW. Looks like it could drag on for months/fail totally, and I find it very hard to see a strong, sustainable BTC rally under these circumstances.

Meanwhile Eth and ZEC look more like sources of entertainment than sound investments, and XMR development continues at what seems to be an increasing pace. Might be a bumpy ride, but it seems like a nice window of opportunity is opening up for XMR to exploit  Smiley

And yes, more accessabilty to users can only be a good thing. Glad we got back on track with Jaxx - kudos to fluffy and the devs for staying at the table there

Final UPDATE on my quick little Monero GUI test trial run guys...

Sent back the few bucks worth to my Polo account... 0.004 fee for low mixin and it went right thru, very smooth and quick.

Very nice simple clean interaction overall for this wallet.

I noticed a few quirks/glitches here and there but nothing fatal or out of the expected for a BETA (just basic stuff like clicking Address Book doesn't open anything, help "?" icon also nonfunctional yet, etc...)

Honestly the only thing that I *would* really like to see added is better FEE CONTROL info and editing, before constructing the transaction itself.

As it works now, for example, if you want to send out your whole balance you have to enter the number, click send to "try" it, let the wallet tell you it's not enough, and see what the proposed fee is, then take that fee, subtract it from your balance number, re-enter everything again and THEN send it... leaving you with your 'zero balance' as you like.

This is pretty convoluted LOL and it'd be much nicer to just have a fee-control slider or text box or something direct like that.

Anyway... overall VERY NICE so far and I expect that this GUI wallet when *finally* released will be very well received, and hopefully help lead to our next Big Wave Expansion of user base: Onward And Upward!!!

@KeyJockey thx for the input. When I compiled and tested a few months ago the input from seed was not functioning, have you tried that yet?

These are known issues, will most likely be resolved for a non-beta release.

There's a sweep all button ("or ALL") on the send page. You can use that to send your whole balance. Alternatively, fill in "(all)" instead of the amount.

I decided not to dip into my cold storage just to mess around testing this, LOL...

So, just quickly bought five bucks worth on Polo and I'm now sending to this new address as TEST.

First "glitch" :: the Payment ID generated by the GUI wallet was not accepted by Poloniex SEND page... said "invalid" for some reason.

I don't know if you were just testing the Payment ID, but just wanted to get clear that the Payment ID is not needed when sending to your personal wallets. It is commonly used with service that serves a unique address to identify individual client transactions.

On another note. Could you please post this kind of stuff in the other Monero thread? There could be new people not interested in price speculation that will miss this nice updates.  Grin

Aha, okay thanks.  Yeah I saw that I guess but didn't think of what it meant, LOL.  Duh...

Still, would be nice to have *direct* control over the fee amount if possible.  The gawd-awful blockchain.info web wallet for bitcoin is terrible *but* actually on their "Advanced Control" dialog box for setting up a transaction, it's something they do well there.  Monero GUI wallet devs should take a look at that and maybe try to recreate it in next version of this wallet (but *again* this is a VERY good start so far!)

Yes I'm aware of that which is why after trying it I knew it was okay to send the transaction with no Payment ID.  But was just testing it from Polo to see if it'd work since the ID coming from the GUI wallet looked DIFFERENT: was not sure if that was a bug or just evolving situation with ID that Polo can't cope with yet.

On another note. Could you please post this kind of stuff in the other Monero thread? There could be new people not interested in price speculation that will miss this nice updates.  Grin

I posted this stuff here in Speculation because I think there's been a lot of, ahem, "speculation" lately on what the long-awaited actual *release* of the GUI will mean to Monero's price action and continued adoption by the crypto community and (more importantly) the larger world OUTSIDE of our little bubble here.

The GUI is, IMHO, going to be vastly more important and impactful that many here realize.

Srsly.

Normal people cannot deal with command line stuff.  It's unfortunate but it's just simply true.

Look back at history and see what happened to the overall computer revolution when things moved from CP/M and DOS to Apple's GUI and ultimately Windows.

On a smaller scale, obviously, THAT is what can happen HERE for XMR -- but only once we *finally* have decent useable and well-designed GUI tools.

My initial experience with the GUI reported in this thread above is hopefully borne out in the future and will be ignition to rocket fuel for moon launch that I believe all of us here in this Epic XMR Spec Thread want to see... fingers crossed!!! Cheesy

Counter-argument - look at the rise of civilization. It depended on evolving from cave paintings to pictograms/hieroglyphics to alphabets. Relying on graphical icons is a regression. Textual written language is the most precise, expressive, and efficient way to communicate information.
