So renting 1ph for a couple of hours isnt a good idea? Better to rent say, 100th for a week?
It makes no difference either way. 1PH for an hour has exactly the same chance of finding a block as 100TH for 10 hours. The only difference to you is that you get to watch your rental for longer with the lower hashrate.

There are several different types of Bitcoin clients. The most secure are full nodes like Bitcoin Core, which will follow the rules of the network no matter what miners do. Even if every miner decided to create 1000 bitcoins per block, full nodes would stick to the rules and reject those blocks.

To better understand mining check the stochastic process page on wikipedia. Mining is a by-the-book example of an stochastic process.

Renting 1ph for 4 hours is better if the price is really good for the entire 4 hours.

This is more true if you rent from nicehash/westhash as the price can vary quite a bit.

And you don't screw up and raise up the prices on other people's rentals . When people rent a short burst of high PH on NH/WH it fuggs up everyone else with higher rates.

Is the number next to "last update" the shares from the current session? Also, is the number next to "best ever" the total shares from the last time a block was found? thanks

AFAIK 'last update' is the time in utc of the last update of the stats and 'bestever' is the highest share you ever found. Only the 'bestshare' is reset when a block is found by somebody.

Hi, just wondering how my bestever jumped from 2bill all the way up to 13 billion in about 6 hours @300th is that accurate? Current shares is 6 billion i think the rental went off for maybe one hour and came back on, best ever was at 2billion prior to that. Did it accidentally double after being down?

Once more: it's random. Shares don't "add up" to your best share.

I wish people would read about bitcoin and mining before doing it and coming here to ask dumb questions.  And yes, despite the saying, there are such things as dumb questions, especially in today's internet world.  It's like getting a hit in baseball and then you stand there at the plate and ask everyone what you do next and what are the rules.

FYI I am here to support this solo pool more than make profit. If you want to compare bank accounts with screenshots I'm more than happy to do so. Have a good life.

Edit:
Is there a way to know what "the best share ever" is?  When a block gets solved sometimes the hash provides a value that far exceeds the network difficulty.  I wonder what the best share ever is so far?  Pointless musing, but humor me.

Googled "bitcoin mining best share" and found one of your old threads started last year. You seriously started a thread with this question?  It's amazing how people who are dumb talk crap just to make themselves happy... Let's compare bank accounts and see who the real dumb person is.

i read his post.. he was asking if anyone knew what the best share EVER was and if it was somehow logged..

you see, a share can be MUCH higher then the network difficulty.. i know some were high enough to make a block for many years to come.

It would of course be one of the blocks found, so if you check the most zeros on the 187 of them, that'd be the one Smiley

Mikestang is being a dick because liveflipcoin didn't search a question that liveflipcoin had; meanwhile, liveflipcoin is pointing out that Mikestang didn't search a question that Mikestang had.
What Mikestang didn't search and was asking holds less relevance than his pseudo-superiority over the next guy doing the exact same thing. It's kind of douchey to dump on the new guy for asking a question "especially in today's internet world" that holds at least a parallel to something you've done yourself in the last 11 months (especially given that Mikestang, himself, pleaded "so you can see how I missed it [having only joined the forum last month]").

If you have to ask "why?", you wouldn`t understand my answer.

Man slow down calling someone's oppinion "being a dick". First, -ck patiently answered twice about best share and best ever, though this info can be found elsewhere in the "mining basics" and not in the solo ckpool topic. And Mikestang gave in fact very useful advise:
I wish people would read about bitcoin and mining before doing it

I'm also not in a way a guru in mining, but at least i always try to find the info i need using forum search and if i still can't find it then ask about it in a related thread. Why asking smth like "what is a pool" or "why it only accepts round shares and not square shares")))

Hi guys, my browser cannot access kano.is main page for last 3-4 minutes. Is it just me?

Coming from a guy who panicked and posted after 180 seconds that the kano.is main page wasn't working, but the main server was working fine the whole time....... gtfoh

Man slow down calling someone's oppinion "being a dick"....
It's not his opinion, it's his attitude with someone doing the same kind of not reading the he, himself, had previously done.

You don't get to not read about Bitcoin, ask "dumb questions" (that can be found using search), and then talk smack about the next guy when he did not read about Bitcoin and asked "dumb questions" (that can be found using search). Well, you can do it, but not without being a dick.

First, -ck patiently answered twice about...And Mikestang...
You are missing the fact that Mikestang is giving liveflipcoin crap for ding the exact same thing that Mikestang had done! One month after Mikestang joined, he asked a question that could have been answered using search (but used the "I've only been here a month" excuse for not searching). The topic is irrelevant when Mikestang's attitude is over the action of not using search (by someone that's only been here a month). <- See the douchey, dick irony?
While I think it's great that some folks will answer a question multiple times, giving no reply is far more productive than calling it a "dumb question" just because someone didn't search it.

If 4,000,000,000 ask the same question 4,000,000,000 separate times, it doesn't make it a "dumb question" just because it's been asked 4,000,000,000 separate times (it just makes it a massively annoying reiteration).

If you have to ask "why?", you wouldn`t understand my answer.

This. Mikestang has kind of become the resident grouch in the trash can. He didn't used to be this way, but lately he has little patience, quickly pouncing on newbies. We were all new once. Just answer the question or shake your head and move along.
Maybe offer them some flowers and welcome them to bitcoin...
