First post here. Been mining for a few months. Just switching half my gear over to Kano for a few months to test the waters. I'm the type of person that is obsessively checking my computer and phone to see how things are going. Is there any sort of an app or notifications system to let me know when my gear goes down while using Kano, so we know when to reboot it? Not a big deal during the week, but weekends when i'm away from the gear and computer i'd like to be able to follow to make sure nothing is down all weekend.

Thanks.

From the 1st page:
There's Apps to get pool info and monitor your miners.

Apple App:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1344360.0

Android App, read in the thread here:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=789369.msg11091187#msg11091187

For miner monitoring:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1331875.0

Send any donation/whatever to them for using them - since they wrote them.
I use the Android app, gives false block alerts sometimes but overall works fine.

I don't believe in superstition because it's bad luck: 13thF1oor6CAwyzyxXPNnRvu3nhhYeqZdc
These aren't the Droids you're looking for: S5 & S7 (Sold), R4B2, R4B4 (RIP), 2x S9 obsolete, 2xS15-28, S17-56, S17-70
Pushing a whopping 1/5 PH!  Oh The SPEED!!!

Make sure you use both the phone app you need and the CKPool Monitor for miner monitoring which is 3rd item in the list.  You can be alerted by email and text message when any of your miners drops below the hash threshold you set for each one.  These 3 items are free by the way.

Question:

Once you are ramped up for the two weeks, if you add hashpower, does that hashpower also have to ramp up for another two weeks?

Yes, as another kano-ite succinctly pointed out, if you're fully ramped up at X THs and add another Y THs it will take the 5Nd time to go from X THs to X+Y THs

Make sense?  Mine ON!  Cool

Thank you.

I guess that does away with the idea of using any short term rental hash.

I'm pretty sure Kano has blocked rental hash anyway.

I have tried mrr. too expensive. and nicehash. not nice.  I found a guy I like that has rented me profitable rigs in the past. A private individual. not a rental company. But it doesnt matter much if I have to rent for a couple months to pay for the rampup time.

Yes, but only because of what Carl stated (blocked), not because your hash wouldn't be rewarded for exactly what you contributed.

Remember that the 5Nd also ramps down just as it ramps up.  So even a short burst of hash has a 5Nd carryover in the "decay."  This makes the aggregate paid for the hash the same as if there were no 5Nd ramp up/down.  It just takes a longer than a block to realize the entire contribution in the payout.

Again - any hash "burst" you might provide temporarily still persists through the subsequent 5Nd periods.  You can expect the aggregate payout over the 5Nd ramp down to be the same as if you had been paid without 5Nd involved at all.

The gist is that while other pools give you instant gratification, this pool gives you greater gratification.
