...
Anyone know what the button above the reset button does? Edit: Nothing. It's just a hole with no button.

...

It is a beeper hole.

I did a buy on the S4's and their hashrate locally is 2th/s or greater (awesome!) however, when connected to BTCGuild NONE of them show anywhere close to 2 Th/s.  They show more like 200 Gh/s.  I have 2 that are over 1 Th/s, but the rest between 0 - 278 GH/s.  WTF Bitmain?Huh

BTCGuild and Ghash are the only 2 pools which I've tested that actually work. You may need to power down the miner (not a reboot in the miner's web settings) to get it hashing properly. Any changes to the miner's settings without a hard reboot can cause the issue you're experiencing. Very frustrating.

Hmmmm, could someone tell me what version of cgminer these come with?

Also, if someone wouldn't mind telling me how they fair on p2pool - that would be cool. Even better, point one at my node for 10 mins using a wallet addy as your username:

stratum+tcp://iyftech.zapto.org:9332

.....just so I can see how they perform with p2pool & weather I should get one or not....

Thanks in advance  Smiley

Someone? Maybe p2pool is the only pool they work with......  Cheesy

Is there anyone here with a "normal" working (2TH/s @ tested at different Pools) S4?

Mine is (if your definition of normal includes overclocked to 225Mhz...).  See my earlier posts.

[Edit: Oh, never mind - I've only tested on one pool, Slush's.]

thanks,

-dave

Read back through the thread. In short, this old version of cgminer has security vulnerabilities, worst of which is the "stratum redirect" - where a third party can steal your hashes & point them at a pool of their choice. It and all other miners were patched very quickly - but Bitmain have refused to upgrade it for some (strange?) reason, despite promising to do so 7 weeks ago.

It's as phoney as your cryptocoin SEC statement...... Cheesy Cheesy

Can this be prevented in any way in the mean time? Use of a proxy, or something? Why doesn't this happen with all pools?

Not that I'm aware of & it can.

I doubt that this is the problem, even though it is a very big one. The problem here is that Bitmain have shipped out units before fully testing the firmware, as they themselves stated. That's just wrong.

Well, I'd rather have a buggy unit ASAP as opposed to having them test them and drive the difficulty up in the process before I get my miners. To be honest when it works it works very well. Happy to have it so quickly after ordering.

It will just keep getting worse until people stop buying overpriced, late equipment whose best hashes have already been thrown.  Since Bitmain announced the S4 the coin is down almost %25.  That's %25 less revenue from a device that was never going to break even with the coin at close to $500.  Today the cost of a B2 S4 is $1250 or 3.393BTC (which the way the coin is going could be even higher a few days from now).  You simply cannot mine 3.393BTC with this device.  Why on earth would you buy it?

I only have a signature because I'm allowed.

Well, I'm happy you're happy  Smiley

Myself, for that price, I'd prefer not to be treated like a guinea pig beta tester on a miner that might work on certain pools if I'm lucky while hoping my hash power is going where it's supposed to go...... Wink

Hindsight and all that jazz. Here's hoping by the time/if you decide to buy one you'll get a bug free miner.

Bitmain, you promised this 7 weeks ago....... Roll Eyes

Since then you have released two firmware releases both containing the older, security vulnerable cgminer versions.......as well as using it in these S4's.........

I have S2's that I can't get spares for, despite you having 100's of them hashing away in your premises. I was told to wait for the upgrade kits by you in an email, only to be told the very next day that you won't be doing them anymore, so instead you offer a $200 coupon that runs out in 4 days for a vastly overpriced miner that has untested firmware & the same security issues in it as all your other miners have......what on earth are you thinking?

Too many broken promises Bitmain, resulting in me having miners that are unusable due to lack of spares, and even the ones that are working aren't safe from exploitation. There is absolutely no way I will buy an S4 in it's current state at that price, meaning I've also lost the $200 dollar coupons you issued as a "we're sorry" gesture.

You seriously need to sort your business out - I'm completely sick & tired of hearing the same thing over & over again but nothing being done.

Your reputation is on the line here Bitmain, I suggest you start treating your customers like customers, not as some kind of never ending money supply!!
