Blockchain Scaling

With the recent deployment of RC2 with ZeroTime support and the public beta looming I have taken measures to maximise transaction throughput while reducing blockchain size. The following measures were taken.

    The maximum block size has been increased to 5 megabytes. This limit will double every 6 months.
    The block timing has been increased to 400 seconds or 7.06 minutes.

This will initially allow for a minimum of 90 megabytes worth of transactions per hour or about 100 transactions per second.

Note: I am still testing this configuration on the test network so these numbers are not yet final.

Don't worry though, it will get implemented in a honest way that supports scalability for VNL so it can reach 100 tx's per sec.

What struck me was the point made about Bitcoin having to choose if it was going to a payment processor like VISA or a decentralised store of wealth as a hedge for fiat.....and it is impossible to be both. Am I right in saying Vanilla coin doesn't have to make this choice and can be both?


It also makes me wonder if a Bitcoin is best as a digital gold while another coin might be better at the VISA job....I think you know what coin I'm talking about.

Let's focus on these out there that haven't even heard of Vanillacoin, or these that are in doubt and don't know why they should invest in VNL.
There's almost no one tweeting about VNL these days, except a small group of "hardcore tweeters"...
We all should connect on Twitter, and retweet each other's Tweets, let the world know we're here!

Also, I have seen this question so many times in different topics: What makes VNL so special, why should I buy it?
It would be great if someone could write a FAQ about VNL, so we can refer these people to that document.
For now, if they're lucky, they are referred to our OP, but I have also seen answers like: why should we spoon feed you, do your own research!

Why should we act like a bunch of arrogant, offensive, "our coin is better than yours" teenagers?
Don't forget most people are invested in more than one coin (like myself).
Some of them do real research before they invest in a new coin, some of them need a little help to guide them on their way...

I just hope we can put an end to these endless discussions, they are not worth it and actually even damage our reputation.

I mainly agree but also the majority of those asking questions are not genuine, they simply are wanting to underplay the features. Call me crazy but while FUD can be negative, it's also a good sign, ie someone feels threatened. I imagine many are defending Dash and Monero, so we kind of turned up in the middle of a fight.


My advice is not to worry too much about FUD, it's keeps the topic on top and doing all the communication by IRC can make a coin seem invisible. Best thing is to have a moderated thread if it gets crazy, but keep the unmoderated too.

And let's not be too aloof that we don't want to talk about price and even encouraging price moves. I've seen many coins get focused on tech and eventually no one cares.


And one last thing, price movement is by far the quickest way to advertise a coin. People who believe in the coin and have some spare Bitcoin shouldn't sit on their hands watching the market stagnate, they should get buying and create momentum. It's not pumping it's a move against those who want to accumulate too cheaply, coins in a few hands is not good. Get buying.
