https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=430467 if his claims are true than there could be a lot of opportunity here. He accepts escrow but refuses to release the source before I release my escrow. Even though the code will be closed source, he promises to release a working client before i release my escrow. My concern is that maybe he will simply change a few values in nxt and add a new graphical fronted so that it looks like brand new software but is actually just a clone of nxt.

what do you guys think? is there a way of telling whether or not he copied nxt without seeing the source?

if he did copy NXT then he not only ported to c++ but he also added PoW component.  Id be more concerned of him cloning CGB/ADT or some other Pos/PoW coin

ah well the point remains. is there any way to tell if he did this?

Ask him to release partial code, he should be comfortable with that if he's legit.

Received this message from Bittrex

"Thanks for the email.  We've gotten a lot of requests for NXT so we'll definitely look at it.  With it being a complete different codebase, it may take more time than others."

I wouldn't say that are adding Nxt, and we need people to volunteer help to integrate.  `

DO NOT PAY ANY MONEY TO HAVE NXT LISTED ON AN EXCHANGE!

THIS IS A MOVEMENT ABOUT FREEDOM FROM UNETHICAL PRACTICES!

NXT CAN STAND ON ITS OWN!

Sometimes, we have to push things a little bit. But this "pay to be on exchange" smells a little fishy, yes.

Ethics come first.

I disagree.  Atomic Trade offers a significant user rewards program so the owner doesn't take any profit other than operating costs.  The cost of integration will include several new exchange features for Nxt.  We are paying people Nxt to develop features and help promote, is that unethical?  Personally, I have a choice to hold on to my BTC, buy Nxt with my BTC and hoard, or spend my BTC to help make it easy for others to buy Nxt with USD.  We have the freedom to do what we want with our money, that is the whole point of this.  You should post your opinion with some support text, but you shouldn't post your opinion as law with all caps.
1004  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: If an altcoin were to overtake Bitcoin, which would it be? on: February 20, 2014, 01:49:07 PM
darkcoin is nothing

Darkcoin is one of the best coins there is from a technical standpoint.  It's only problem is that it's name and function may prohibit it to a small market cap labeled as a drug dealer coin or something.

That same quality might also elevate it to high market cap by the same users.  After all, Satoshi didn't invent Bitcoin.  Bitcoin was useless.  Ross Ulbricht invented Bitcoin.

Also, I'm not sure if people have rocks for brains in these threads because I rarely see anyone ever talking about economic models.  Many coins have identical models, some are a lot different.  Cashcoin probably has the best economic model I've seen on a coin so far.  If anyone thinks there's a better one, name it, because I haven't seen it.

No, I don't consider Freicoin viable, because people have the freedom to choose something that will give them more profit, so why bother with that?

NXT Vs. Bitcoin

Quark and NXT shills get the fuck out.  Everyone is tired of reading your forum spam.  You will rarely see someone with high post count shilling for these coins.  It's always some 1 star poster paid to type this crap from Nigeria.

This coming from the guy that joined about 3 months ago.
1005  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NXT :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: February 20, 2014, 05:45:02 AM

Woah, woah, woah.  I want to call a time out here for a few pages.

I'm not trying to be the Grinch here, but I STRONGLY think we've got to get a better handle on this whole process before we just start handing out NXT left and right to ANYBODY.

I agree.... with everything rickyjames is saying.  Somehow we went from "please apply for the committees" to "these are the committees" to "funds will be disbursed" in less than 36 hours.

Posting twice in this thread and once in forums.nxtcrypto.org does not constitute allowing an adequate response from the community.  This rush to disburse funds for things based on minimal information and (more importantly) a SHORT timeframe is not sustainable.

I also sort of thought there was gonna be some kind of vetting of people putting their names down for committees, where they would have to put in at least one post describing why they thought they were qualified to serve on a committee, what they wanted to accomplish there, blah blah blah, and um....we might actually VOTE IN A POLL to pick the top 5?

Instead it's just put your name down as a candidate and you're in?  On as many committees as you want?

Yeah.  I've been busy on contract work this week (and will be until April 1) so I'm not able to keep up as much as I'd like.  There are lots of smart, competent folks like me who should be involved in these decisions but can't because they, you know, have jobs.  We seem to be rushing to do things QUICKLY, instead of PROPERLY.

Also, we need to be clear that all projects need to be open source to be considered for a bounty.  If the Dev decides to take the Nxt and go, the community can take over the project.

If someone has an invite code for Bittrex.com, please PM me.

P.S.: Got a tweet from Mintpal

Here is the Bittrex email if people want to send them an "Please Add Nxt" email; support@bittrex.com

i think they already decided to add NXT:
http://www.reddit.com/r/CryptoCurrency/comments/1ycym4/bittrex_supports_17_markets_today_are_there_any/cfjjvty

Still worth emailing them, showing our continued support never hurts.

Maybe change it to a simpler version:

Quote
Unregistered users = 3 votes per hour!
Just click 3 times on the VOTE Button for NXT - that's it!

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> PLEASE VOTE! <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
Much color, so many less words, yammy nxt Shocked

We should be in 1st place in a little bit.

QUICK UPDATE

Atomic-Trade will be adding Nxt.  I'm paying for integration with my own funds since AT agreed to add USD/Nxt trade abilities.  This will allow any users to buy Nxt with USD directly.  Currently AT only offers USD/BTC trading, so we will have an advantage over other alts on the exchange. Also, when I get home this evening, expect Nxt to lead the voting in Mintpal Wink

Wow good news. When will Atomic Trade add it you think?

Not sure, he is working on it asap and I've contacted a few members here to help him integrate as he had some api questions.  Also, if anyone else wants to offer him help with integration, here is the contact email (subject "Nxt Integration") info@atomic-trade.com

Will you disclose how much you paid for that?

Sure, 2.5btc.

Thank you, i actually thought that they might charge an order of magnitude more.

Yeah, I only agreed with the stipulation that USD/Nxt be offered, and he also has a rewards program so he claims there is no big profit made.

Best case is to wait for a javascript client that signs outbound transactions and polls public nodes for inbound transactions.  We REALLY need this, if this comes out....price will skyrocket.

Umm isn't that what my client does ? http://nxtra.org/nxt-client (ok, it doesn't yet sign outbound transactions, but it's on my todo list :-))

right, what I mean is the ability to have a wallet where your passphrase is kept completely local.

a system with no trust.

Yes well that's what my wallet will do (it will be downloadable, not just on the web)

Will it be open source?

Don't trust online wallets.

THIS THIS THIS.  you can never fully trust online wallets!  EVEN IF they have SSL certs!  By trusting an online wallet you are trusting anyone who has access to the server.  Do you know how many people that is?  If its a VPS its even worse!

Great. Smiley We would love to see it.

ChuckOne, hope you don't mind, but I added your name for Nxt Technical Committee for unreleased funds.

Don't trust online wallets.

Just implement your own wallet app and make it opensource to let other contribute and audit the code base.

Agreed, just wanted to see what we have out there.

Thanks Pin

I think we should hook up with these guys and get them to accept Nxt, make a large donation as well.

News about TaPoS: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1RLcjSXWuU9vBJzzqLEXVACSCdn8zXKTTJRN_LfoCjNY/edit?pli=1

The author suggests a real penalty for accounts not mining within a year or so: they pay a fee.

Somehow, I like that.

Would be great if we could get this guy to help us with Nxt DAC.

Which brings me to some important questions about where are we heading with charity marketing:
Is SoL going to be the "official" NXT charity?
Are we going to make an ongoing commitment to them, or move on to another good cause after we hit the target?
Are multiple charity projects a good idea?
Does any one have any suggestions for another charity to support?

I think it would be better to support 10 charities by 10.000 than 1 by 100.000. 1 would be nice if it was some famous or viral charity. Tons of Nxters already suggested to donate for Wikileaks foundation. If Nxt is going to become the whole platform for all decentralized applications and internet, it would be nice to support those who fight for decentralized internet and get their attention. + Wikileaks provides huge media attention and contacts.

Some people mentioned Electronic Frontier Foundation  https://www.eff.org/ and it is about the rights on the internet. So it is followed by 200.000 people from crypto and digital medias. EFF already accepts Bitcoin (https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2013/05/thank-you-bitcoin-community) and has got 3xmore followers on Facebook and 400x more followers on Twitter (180.000) than songsoflove.org. We have the same goal here - to have internet without censorship of the governments. Nxt will provide it.

Other charities we might focus on are the green ones, since Nxt is not only about fight against controll of the governments, but also fight for lower electricity spent in crypto world.

+1, We need to focus on technology related foundations.  SOL will get us zero new users and the whole "we need to play on tragedy" is complete BS.  Wikileaks and EFF are very good causes with much bigger exposure than SOL.  I'm not sure why this isn't obvious to everyone.  I suggest we start a campaign for Wiki and EFF.
