Date is 20th July, 2023. [...] 1BTC is worth $131,500.

after dropping from $512,000 USD of course

The point of the post was probably aimed more at Billy nocoins to show that a drop to any particular price really does not matter to those here in it for the long haul. 450X was just the rough number of $ increase in value of my $68 coins at present time.

There have been so many crashes since I bought my first coins that had I capitulated at any of those points along the way I would not be in the comfortable position I am with Bitcoin right now.

Arriemoller is not particularly worried with 50% drop and I'm not at all worried. I also agree with Arriemoller this cycle top has not been reached.

this is pretty much my situation, i watched bitcoin go from ~$35 to ~$2 USD. i figured it was a goner for sure. i only kept mining because i was an old time cruncher from a folding@home and SETI background. so i was used to donating free computing power to projects.

needless to say i am quite pleased with the fact that my (presumed) generosity of computing power in the past led me to an early retirement.

so 80% drop. meh. wake me up at one dollar, maybe ill take the energy to sneer at it or something.

[...] bring me some sats please

Just looking to stack more sats please.

excuse me sir, is this the right line for free sats?

This is a very interesting rule on dell website

The 3070 pulls under 260 watts
The 3080 pulls under 325 watts.

As a long time miner this is big news.

The ban is in 6 states.
It is for 3070 and for 3080 models

Excuse my language but what the flying fuck?!  Arbitrary hardware-based power consumption rules?  Jesus.
Wait, are those gasoline powered GPUs?

whats funny (well its not really) is phil has a lot of solar powered gear. and they wouldnt sell to him if he was in one of those states.

1025  Economy / Economics / Re: Very interesting ban on mining gear. Actually a pc from Dell on: July 17, 2021, 12:56:40 AM
wow

so they are seriously going after GAMING systems so they cant be sold in some states? ignoring its mining capability for the moment, how can they single out a gaming system. coffee makers at 1200 watts will be next. then toasters..

now i know why newegg had that teapot on the contest a couple weeks ago as it prolly draw over 1k watts.. soon to be banned no doubt.

ok so this poll

"Which price is bitcoin going to reach first? 25k or 50k (credits to Jay)

like i hope it concludes at some point, this year even, maybe. this ever sideways between those values is making me dizzy.
1027  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Seed phrase security question on: July 11, 2021, 01:27:28 PM
That is something i never thought of.  But when you guys write your seed or look at your seed, do you all make sure your phone or laptop camera isn't pointing straight at your paper that has your seed in it?

when generating a new seed or key i remove all phones from the room and power them off. all security cams that might have line of site are disabled. unplug desktop webcams or cover the webcam if laptop. all window shades in the room are drawn (include skylights too). i have no alexa/google thing (never will either) so no worries there. if you have a smart tv attached to your network unplug it. have any of those voice activated remote controls for your cable/sat tv? take the batteries out and move those remotes out of the house for the duration.

once the seed/key is generated/tested ill make dupes and stash some off site. add a passphrase too but dont store that with the seeds of course. multiple copies of that too.

then after all that i take my tinfoil hat off and re enable all the potential bugs (phones tvs etc).

Evolution can't go wrong.

But, evolution has a goal: survival of the fittest.

We think we can influence evolution. Condoms, contraceptives and vaccines are some of our supposed influences. But, they are not really influences, because this is all part of evolution. We are all in the same system. Being smart and capable enough to invent the condom and develop contraceptives and vaccines is part of our own evolution. Evolution has brought us this far, and has favored these choices.

The fittest shall survive, while the weakest shall perish. Deal with it.

human evolution has brought us to the point where we change the environment to suite us rather than us having to adapt and evolve to the environment. and we are currently the apex predator. so human evolution has more or less ceased as we know it as there is no real need right now.

well at least until we all evolve gills for breathing when the planets under water or whatever the latest doomsday climate thing is.

1033  Other / Archival / Re: Question to Merit Sources on: July 07, 2021, 02:38:48 PM
And now, in fact, the topic itself. I would like to ask the community, in particular, merit sources, how they feel about ignoring active users? Do you think that merit source can add as many users as he wants to his ignore list of those users that he does not like, or, being in such a position, you should not overuse this function?

For example, I have a completely empty ignore list, because I try to evaluate posts without paying attention to the nickname, namely the content of the post itself. If I ignore users that I do not like, then I will no longer be able to fully consider myself an objective merit source. Because I will only rate the posts of those who I personally like, and those who I do not like, they are on my ignore list and I do not see their posts, even if they are ultra useful. But at the same time, no one forbids me to use the ignore button.

These are my personal beliefs and my personal vision of objectivity merit source, so I refused the ignore button. Thus, I do not miss any posts at all and can rate absolutely any user, even if it is my personal hater.

But I would like to hear other opinions on this matter. Opinions of others merit sources. How often do you use the ignore button and do you use it at all? After all, if you ignore active users that you do not like, you cannot evaluate their posts, which means that your objectivity is no longer so objective ... or not?

i have lots of peeps on ignore. but since good posts by those ignored peeps tend to get quoted i will see them. if its good then i can go back to the original post, show/hide it to see it and will merit based on that. so ive merited many people on ignore.

tldr people on ignore if youre a source - it tends work out on its own.. in my case at least.

gloom and doom post after gloom and doom post.

i miss chartbuddy

I am not sure  what to do about the hashrate .

I am still mining  and stacking my btc

I am selling the other coins I mine.

I will be creating multiple LN nodes in New Jersey

The LN network could end up being a real force for BTC.

And I am still a crab not a fish

and i thought i was comfortable that honeybadger was going to, well, kinda what its done in the past, within reason of course. but this is uncharted territory.. always interesting, that.

such hubris on my part.. we all know how many f*cks honey badger gives.

i think ill put my seat belt on for this one.
1038  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: July 03, 2021, 01:58:34 PM
As a miner..

diff has dropped from

25.3 to 14.4 in last 2 months

price has dropped

64k to 34k

If you do the math in terms of collecting and stacking coins it means more coins and if you are just selling to cash (I am not). you are making about 5% less in terms of cash

14.4/25.3 x 64k = 36k and price  is 34.6k

I am concerned with the new diff adjustment coming in 2 weeks

Latest Block:   689509  (31 minutes ago)

Current Pace:   85.3997%  (38 / 44.50 expected, 6.5 behind)

Previous Difficulty:   19932791027262.74
Current Difficulty:   14363025673659.96
Next Difficulty:   between 12521597367956 and 14284579252675
Next Difficulty Change:   between -12.8206% and -0.5462%

Projected Epoch Length:   between 14d 2h 8m 42s and 16d 9h 26m 37s

...

We are down about 14%
It is very early but a 14% drop on top of the 27.94% drop is more than I thought would happen.

If we drop 14% and go from 14.3 to 12.29 we are well under 50% of the gear online

That could be a real security issue.  I advise all to check the diff  and see what it does. this adjustment is important how does that go "the next 2 weeks are critical"

https://diff.cryptothis.com/

is easy to understand.  I really do not want any drop over 10% in 2-2.5 weeks I would prefer a drop of 5% or less.

gloom and doom post after gloom and doom post.

i miss chartbuddy

Say it one more time....(in S. Jackson's voice)  Cheesy

who's pumping?

Elvis Costello, Danzel, Technotronic, The Black-Eyed Peas, Joe Budden, MC Hammer, Water Hog 5000, Golden Child (골든차일드), Mike Candys, Moksi, and even Bronisław Komorowski - I shit you not(pun intended).
The better question is, who isn't pumping?

Not this cat.
