1081  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: A bad practice that cost a friend everything. on: October 29, 2023, 12:16:04 PM
It is a bad practice for someone to create their main crypto wallet on a smartphone, because even when you avoid one trap, another is almost certainly waiting for you, it's just a matter of time. If, for example, OP's friend had avoided taking a sample of his screen and saving it on his device, he might have saved his seed in the cloud, e-mail and something similar - and what about keyloggers or clipboard malware?

If we also take into account that the majority of smartphone users attach very little importance to their security, it is more than clear that they are exposed to numerous risks.

The way to protect yourself is to only download applications that have been available for a long time and have good reviews, and to be careful what permissions you give them when installing them. You should also take into account that your smartphone regularly receives security and critical patches, which means that the same phone is not older than 3-4 years, considering that then it will most likely not have official support.
1082  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Top Crypto Execs Confident SEC Will Approve Spot Bitcoin ETFs on: October 29, 2023, 11:48:16 AM
@Lucius. It appears that you might be proven correct. Cathie Wood might only be larping about this before end of the year ETF approval. Her investment firm Ark Invest has dumped Coinbase stocks and GBTC shares on the traditional market. I am quite certain she will also dump bitcoin on November 21 or before this date if she gets confirmation of a disapproval on the ETF from uncle Gary.

It seems that things are going quite badly for her company, because how else to explain that she is selling at the moment when something positive started to happen, and it seems that from a few days ago we can expect a few more pumps in the near future. But when you need money, it's obvious that you have no choice but to sell, regardless of the circumstances.

This article was published on October 24.
If this information is real, it appears that Blackrock is buying bitcoin already. It also appears that the pump on bitcoin might not be a pump and dump. This pump might be caused by Blackrock! I speculate that on October 30-31, we might witness a halloween pump. Blackrock likes to work on Monday and Tuesday, I have heard hehehehe.

I previously read info on the forum that such a possibility exists, although I thought that any company that applied for spot BTC ETF would buy BTC only after receiving approval. In any case, it is very likely that all this news about BR stimulated the market, and if it is not about some kind of manipulation, it is possible that we will not have to wait until next year for the SEC to announce "good news".
1083  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Looking back at the past, one of those statements gained respect over time. on: October 29, 2023, 11:25:33 AM
What is the point of crying over spilled milk? The man (like many others) realized what Bitcoin can do for him and he (allegedly used it), and now he is using his video to promote some tokens and shitcoins and people should believe him that what he is promoting today will be successful as what has BTC been successful in the past 10 years?

Besides, who says that these planes, yachts and whatnot are actually his? You shouldn't believe everything you see, and to me all this seems like just one big deception...
1084  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Rollbit has literally has thrown my money away, sending it to an FTX address on: October 28, 2023, 01:27:37 PM
I needed this money to pay back a friend $2.6k and use to eventually pay for college. Since I value my Rollbit account just as much as my money, I already feel hurt well enough that my Rollbit account is banned but I'm aware that the moderation is my fault so it is what it is. But to have my money basically lost for no reason hurts so much... Please understand the importance of why I needed to get my money back. If I can’t get it back my life will be a lot more difficult and stressed for literally no reason. Please help me!

What you wrote sounds like the monologue of a gambling addict who gambled with the money he needed for his education and to pay back his debts. Without going into why they banned you, would it hurt you less if you lost your deposit gambling and now you have to find another way to pay your debts and education?

I don’t want to call Rollbit “scammers” as that’s the wrong word. They are amazing people and calling them scammers is wrong. However though, the owner of the website has sent my money to the “depositing address” which was an FTX address that can no longer be accessed by anyone I believe.

As far as this is concerned, I believe that you have a full right to be dissatisfied and to seek justice, because this is definitely stupid on the part of the casino, because how else can you describe that after such a long time, someone thinks it is right to return someone's coins to the address from which the deposit was made, without first contacting the client and asking for confirmation.

I don't know if there is anything in their TOS regarding that on the basis of which you could ask for a refund? Besides, can you prove that the address to which the coins were sent really belonged to FTX?

@CryptoDeivid try to post more messages to be able to join to a signature campaign.

You gave him bad advice, because posting more does not automatically mean that he will be able to start dealing with signature campaigns just like that. Ranking comes not only from posts, but also from activities, and what is even more important from merits - which leads us to the fact that he should try to write as many quality posts as possible, which means focusing on quality, not quantity.

Even if the OP reaches Jr.Member or Member rank (which is very realistic), only one of the signature campaigns accepts Member rank and pays an incredible 150 satoshi to 1500 satoshi per post, and considering the price of the internet that the OP pays, does it even make sense to participate in something like that?
1086  Economy / Reputation / Re: @Cantsay - possible abuse of merits + alt accounts on: October 28, 2023, 12:22:13 PM
Quote
2.@Cantsay gets 4 merits, including 3 from the newbie who has earned a total of 8 merits so far.

If any account is to be suspected it should be the other account where I receive one merits from not the other @turn it off because I looked at his post history and found that we’re not even in the same local board.

So any doubt is removed because both of you do not belong/write in the same local board? You know what else is weird? The fact that @Turn it off does not appear at all to defend himself or you, and he gave you all the merits he had.

Quote
3.@Cantsay in a way admits that what he is doing is a good way to earn merits and advertise his sig campaign.

I don’t see anything wrong in my trying to give more exposure to a campaign signature that I am wearing also at the same time trying to earning merits by replying fast to threads that I know the answers to… and like I said if this is also a crime then go one with your punishment.

What kind of punishment are you talking about? I am not a moderator, admin, or even a DT1 member so I can punish you in any way.

Quote
4.The topic is locked to prevent further discussion, which only further indicates that the matter is being swept under the rug.

Moderators could be asked in this case to open the thread and if possible look into the Ip @dextro if indeed it’s been operated by me, and if anyone reported the thread please do me the favour of just replying to this part of my post (if you even come across it).

Whoever closed that thread only caused my even greater suspicion that things are not very clear there - but it seems to me that the topic was closed by the OP, because I don't see on what basis someone would report that thread, and even less why a mod would lock it.

What seems to me that @Dextro1 is an alt account of @Cantsay, and also @Turn it off which served him to award himself merits.

This is funny because if indeed @dextro is my alt and I have already been accused of abusing the system why on earth will I try to make it more obvious by locating the Nigeria board? Like I should try to keep the account of the forum it possibly delete my post, but why just go straight to the my local board to create more drama?

I understand that the population of Edo State is estimated at over 4.7 million [1], but damn, this is such a coincidence:

Username: cantsay
Gender: male
State of resident : Edo state
Skills: graphics design, web developer

Username: Dextro1
Gender: male
Country/state of origin: Nigeria/Edo State
Skill: Graphic Designer

Another almost identical case, involving another Nigerian: Usasauki2004
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5469050.msg62938877#msg62938877

All things considered, I'd say either work buddies or an alt accounts.

I hope you will have some meaningful comment on this evidence, or you will say that everything is just a coincidence?
1087  Economy / Reputation / @Cantsay - possible abuse of merits + alt accounts on: October 27, 2023, 03:09:29 PM
I'm not in the habit of accusing someone just like that and I had no intention of opening this topic, but the sequence of events gives me a hint that I'm on the trail of possible merit abuse and a possible alt farm.

Yesterday I came across the following topic I'm new here in the B&H board and what first caught my attention was the post that was published only 44 seconds after the topic was opened. The post was edited about ten minutes later and I can't say how it looked originally, but it's not at all realistic to me that someone wrote it in just 44 seconds and I assumed that it was a pre-prepared post that was just copy/pasted.

Furthermore, the second thing that caught my attention is that this post received 4 merits in total, 3 of which were from newbie @Turn it off.

The third thing that is definitely suspicious to me is that today that topic is locked, and I sincerely doubt that the reason is that someone reported that topic to the moderators (after all, for what reason?), and newbies usually don't have the habit of locking their topics.

Of course I questioned @Cantsay and he tried to justify himself in some way.

Another interesting fact, the OP (@Dextro) is Nigerian, and so is @Cantsay.

Facts to consider:

1.@Cantsay responds to a post in just 44 seconds.
2.@Cantsay gets 4 merits, including 3 from the newbie who has earned a total of 8 merits so far.
3.@Cantsay in a way admits that what he is doing is a good way to earn merits and advertise his sig campaign.
4.The topic is locked to prevent further discussion, which only further indicates that the matter is being swept under the rug.

What seems to me that @Dextro1 is an alt account of @Cantsay, and also @Turn it off which served him to award himself merits.

Self-moderated only because of possible trolls who usually pollute such topics - not a single constructive post will be deleted.
1088  Economy / Economics / Re: Lucky you do not sell to blackrock on: October 27, 2023, 02:02:26 PM
Isn't that how the economy works? Especially for a volatile asset like Bitcoin? Obviously it does!
When a big company like BlackRock buys Bitcoin, they source it from the miners and not from the open market. So as a common people we do have zero control over the transaction. So there's nothing to regret.
If you have a long term vision for Bitcoin, start averaging your buying price from today onwards. Or there will be regrets later.

There is something fundamentally wrong with your calculation if we consider that Bitcoin miners currently cannot mine more than about 900 BTC per day (reward 6.25 per block in an average time of 10 minutes per block), along with the fact that for some 6 months, that reward will be reduced by 50%. This means that currently around 27 000 new BTC are created per month, but also that each miner sells only as much as he needs to cover the costs, and they keep a part like everyone else and wait for the right moment.

It may be true that we cannot influence when and how much BTC someone will buy, but each individual can at any moment say "my BTC is not for sale", and that means that we can influence the market and the price to some extent. In addition, Bitcoin has a much higher value than the one shown in fiat, because max supply is a fact that gives it that one extra value that nothing else that wants to compare with Bitcoin has.

Banknotes will always be printed, coins minted and gold and diamonds dug out of the ground, and in less than 10 years 99% of BTC will be in circulation, and even if someone wants to buy only from miners, they will only be able to buy very small and limited quantities.
1089  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: UK passes bill to enable authorities to seize Bitcoin used for crime on: October 27, 2023, 10:39:58 AM
You should have read the article you shared pass the title (which was imho misleadingly written ) as its mention later in the text that goal of this new bill is to make it even easier and faster for government agencies to seize cryptocurrencies that they belive were used in illegal activities.

Good advice, and if only members followed it more, they wouldn't open such pointless topics and also promote websites that spread fake news and earn millions at the same time.

The majority wants Bitcoin to be accepted by everyone and everywhere, but they find it strange when it comes under the same rules as everything else that can serve as a tool for crime. Does it make any difference whether someone seized Bitcoin, a bunch of fiat, or a medieval castle? Well, you can't really put the castle in your pocket, but you understand what I mean Smiley
1090  Other / Meta / Re: Plagiarism vs AI Posting on: October 27, 2023, 10:24:23 AM
Plagiarism is a concept you learn during higher education.
~snip~

I would not really agree with that, because good or bad habits are adopted at an early age, when children should already begin to understand what is good or bad. If we consider that conscious plagiarism is a form of theft, we can conclude that this person has never understood that it is a bad thing to take something from someone else and say "it's mine".

In the online world, such inappropriate behavior is even more pronounced because the person who does it hides behind anonymity, and if he lives in an environment where he has never had problems with the law because he stole something, then how can you even explain to him that plagiarism is something bad?

That damned AI Chat is for some of them a gift they couldn't even dream of, and I consider it one of the biggest threats to human creativity and online communication.

1092  Economy / Speculation / Re: Has anybody expected this? on: October 26, 2023, 02:33:14 PM
Not that I'm a charting expert or a good technical or fundamental analyst let alone a bear, but I'm really surprised at the spike that's happened, and which is probably continuously happening as of this writing. So far, the price has already hit above $34,000. That's already more than 12% in growth in just 24 hours.

Has anybody somehow expected this kind of thing? Has anybody had at least a tiny clue that something like this would happen? I know Uptobers have been good months, but every huge increase especially a sudden one must have a big reason. I'm not seeing one that could push such growth so fast. I was really caught by surprise. Will a Bitcoin spot ETF be certainly approved soon that insiders have already relayed to their bosses the good news and the accumulation has secretly grown stronger?

The fact is that we are approaching the halving and that the demand will increase more and more because most people want to keep their value in BTC as short as possible (for various reasons). Of course, all these speculations about the spot ETF are just an additional motive, especially if we take into account that there is already a lot of talk about it being a done deal.

However, even without these speculations, the price of BTC would probably go up due to the pre-halving effect, and it would not be strange if by April 2024 the price would be somewhere between $40k and $50k.

Another very important thing that we should not forget is that the price of BTC would probably not have gone so low ($15k+) if it wasn't for Do Kwon who was actually the cause of the price crash, and after him FTX who crashed the price so low that broke even the previous ATH. In other words, the real price after the ATH correction of $69k was somewhere around $30k, which means that no one should be surprised that today we are approximately 10% above that.
1093  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: IBTC ticker of Blockrock is still listed on the website on: October 26, 2023, 01:58:53 PM
~snip~
Then there will be tens of trillions of dollars pouring into the market and we will witness a crazy price increase. But when that will be announced, no one knows, but the prediction that they will announce it at the time of halving is also a reasonable prediction, and I also believe that that is the most appropriate time.

In other words, you want to say that everything managed by BlackRock, Fidelity, Ark, Grayscale and others will be converted into Bitcoin? Will the BTC price be at least a trillion US$ then?

What you wrote is a really legendary stupid comment...
1094  Economy / Reputation / Re: Should Ratimov be in DT1? on: October 26, 2023, 01:00:33 PM
I have expressed my opinion about @Ratimov several times in the past and I have received nothing but ad hominem attacks and insults, which is why I put the same member on ignore a long time ago. As if it was yesterday, I remember that one day I saw the already famous topic about the first newbie who became Legendary and I was surprised that I had never seen it on the forum before, only to realize that it was actually a product of a Russian local board.

I can say that he was a completely different person then (in a positive sense), and that he completely changed after many accused him of plagiarism, which of course he never wanted to accept as a fact and be grateful to all those who overlooked it (intentionally or by chance) and also rewarded him with a bunch of merits and make him merit source.

What I would conclude is that @Ratimov is actually a product of the Russian board, a good part of the members who generously rewarded his "In this topic post I would like to touch upon" and, of course, the forum's administration, which, despite everything, promoted him to merit source.

The fact that the majority has been silent for years and considered that there is nothing controversial anymore speaks volumes about how we either don't care or maybe we are afraid that every reaction will be retaliated against.

Although I welcome the fact that some things are finally cleared up, I will also say that I would prefer that it had been resolved a long time ago and that this whole case had not come to the surface as a result of personal differences between two members.
1095  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 7,000 bitcoins locked on USB stick. Owner not rushing to unlock them on: October 26, 2023, 10:50:29 AM
Just look at the man's status now, he might not be sleeping well in the night, and in the day he must be dreaming of getting his IronKey unlocked somehow.
~snip~

I wonder why this guy is inactive on the forum since 2018. Did he lost access to his Bitcointalk account or he just doesn't have the time to post on the forum?
~snip~

Guys, you're not exactly a beginners that you can't read a few posts and understand some things - because as I already wrote in my previous post, that man managed to save enough BTC to have, as he says, more money than he needs, so this 7000 BTC is not something that keeps him awake at night.

The reason why he stopped being active on the forum is probably that he became a millionaire thanks to BTC, and I would like to see anyone in a similar situation react in a different way.

It is worth noting that Thomas likely isn't hurting for money. In the 2021 piece with The NY Times, he said he had managed to hold on to enough Bitcoin (and not lose the passwords) to give him "more riches than he knows what to do with."

A much easier option than that in the short term is just to close all your KYCed accounts and use bitcoin peer to peer as it was intended in the first place. Long term I would say leaving the US is a good plan for a whole host of reasons, given the mass surveillance machine the US government has turned in to.

If someone decides to leave, it would be very good to do a thorough research about the country to which they want to move, because although surveillance in the US went to a completely different level after the terrorist attacks, it is not better in other parts of the world either.

I watched a documentary about how the police in the UK use some kind of AI for facial recognition, and with the help of cameras on vehicles, they try to detect potential terrorists, and the vehicles with these cameras are parked in the middle of city centers where thousands of people pass by. Imagine you're walking with your family/friends and then the police grab you and take you for an extra check because the AI has marked you as suspicious and all the other people are looking at you and wondering if you're really a terrorist.

What I want to say is that there are much worse places in the world when it comes to limiting and endangering human freedoms than is the case in the US, only that a perception has been created that Big Brother is still the biggest in the world's largest democracy.
1097  Other / Meta / Re: Plagiarism vs AI Posting on: October 26, 2023, 10:18:27 AM
It is not the first account from which an idea of tolerating AI posting is forced through the idea of using bots for improving the grammar. I guess some farmer of multiple accounts is very disappointed being caught with his AI posting and now tries to legitimize AI posts anyhow to abuse the forum with more of low quality posts written by bots to get some rewards for that and not being punished. It is a subject of earning for him so he is trying to make others to doubt that AI posts are not okay in any way.

Unfortunately, he is not the first (and certainly not the last) who wants to somehow justify the use of AI for the purpose of writing posts, and what I noticed is that such an opinion prevails among forum users who come from specific countries. I don't want to generalize and point the finger at anyone, but everyone who is a regular user of the forum could have already concluded that - and no, it is not only about some low ranks, but also members who are very well known and respected by their local community.

I remembered that @Pmalek opened a thread once Plagiarism as a result of cultural differences, and point 3 ("Those who have a different understanding of the plagiarism concept due to educational/cultural differences") is what I am talking about here. If someone has no problem lying or stealing in real life, they won't have the slightest problem behaving in the same way online.
1098  Other / Meta / Re: Plagiarism vs AI Posting on: October 25, 2023, 03:35:39 PM
The forum moderators understand better, I dont support the outright use of AI to generate answers but I believe AI can also be used to make your write beautiful. Go to the academic environment, they will tell you it is allowed when it is used properly

I don't know why you replied to a post that is about 7 months old, but you didn't write anything smart considering how people who use their brains (still) communicate on this forum. I don't understand your thinking about "beautifying posts" with AI, because in the end it's not you, but some machine processed your post and released its "beautified" version.

As for those academics you mention, I would not agree that this is something completely normal, but as we see, it is becoming the "new normal" more and more. Those who invented all those AI chat bots want it to become normal and to get into every pore of society in order to profit even more from it, but in which direction does it actually lead?
1099  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The PATRIOT Act comes to cryptocurrency on: October 25, 2023, 03:07:34 PM
I downloaded monero (not the full blockchain), out of curiousity. I used it through coin exchange in order to get rid of some UTXOs. My question remains: why is monero not very widespread? I would argue, according to all the comments and posts I have seen, that monero is a "good" coin.

I don't use CEX, so I don't know what the situation is with the most famous ones when it comes to that coin, but what I do know is that a few years ago in the EU there was increased pressure on the so-called "privacy coins" and that all local crypto exchanges in my country over night removed that coin (and some others) from their trading pairs. Given that people in most cases buy cryptocurrencies because they want to profit from them, privacy is not something that is valued, especially if it is also marked by the authorities as something bad.

I read the entire article from OP and I can only say that I am not at all surprised that all this is happening, because any decentralization that goes in the direction of finance is literally a thorn in the side of every government that wants to have absolute control over every individual and his life. Although there is quite clear evidence that cryptocurrencies are to a very small extent responsible for financing terrorism or money laundering (according to what Chainalysis claims) and that there should be much more focus on the classic methods used by terrorists/criminals. Unable to admit that their (FIAT) system is as full of holes as Swiss cheese, some governments look for the culprit on the completely wrong side, and it's even easier if that someone might not even defend himself.
1100  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: I'm new here on: October 25, 2023, 01:43:01 PM
First I was able to respond fast because I was with my device when the notification came in and also all the links I included in my posts have already been used in my previous posts so all I had to do was to “quote” that post and copy the list arrangement and paste here(since it’s just link).

No matter how you look at it, 44 seconds from when the post was published until your reply is perhaps enough to make a copy/paste of a post that you have already prepared - but in any case the matter looks suspicious, and even more so if we add the merits you received (and which you didn't comment).

If you check some other posts that I have responded to you’ll notice that my response time to that of the op is just a little difference and this only occur when I’m with my device.

For the links I included in my post. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5469050.msg62938877#msg62938877 and there’s still just a few minutes difference.

I see only two possible options:

1. You have already prepared posts on the questions asked by beginners and you want to be the one to answer first and thus increase your chances of getting merits.

2. You create new accounts yourself, ask questions and give answers, and then with your alt accounts you merit yourself.
