1241  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Do you Have Any Bitcoin Stories from a Decade Ago? on: July 08, 2023, 05:49:04 PM
It doesn't matter, the reason why all these stories are making a come.back now is because Bitcoin have better value compared to past years a d some sold for a penny while few held as if they knew that Bitcoin is going to beat gold in terms of value one day, I am happy for them and they leave those who sold too earlier in a pot of regrets, I am glad I am not one of them but it's a good lesson to learn something from.

Even we who sold coins back in 2017 have regrets about not buying BTC back at $3k. Theymos has his own story AFAIK since he sold a few BTC at a price of cents.  It was 13 years ago when he sold 160 BTC. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5441173.0

but Lazlo is the most celebrated though because he became famous which is the reason for the creation of Bitcoin pizza day. These stories will go to the history books is there will be one author who will list them all.  Grin

Not to hi-jack UFC 290 but Jones vs. Miocic is official! They will headline UFC 295 on Nov. 11

Dana's announcement: https://rumble.com/v2yqvrr-dana-white-announces-jon-jones-vs-stipe-miocic-to-headline-ufc-295.html

That's fine.  I think it should be encouraged that regs itt post and share any interesting developments from the UFC.  Wink  And while it's def gonna be a decent match up, it's still not Ngannou vs Jones.  Sad  That would've been the MMA heavy weight match up for the ages.  If I were in the UFC brass, I'd offer Ngannou a one fight contract that's worth something Ngannou would find hard to refuse.  That fight needs to happen imho...  For the fans.
~

Yep. Jones vs Miocic seems predictable already but it's not what people demand. Dana saw people are eager to see their fight during their PFL face-off. If arranged, we'll see them in the cage next year.

Meanwhile, Helwani said the fight between Fury and Ngannou will probably happen sooner than expected. They are making it happen which will be bigger than UFC 295 and if they really want to see which PPV will be availed more, they could schedule it on Nov 11 as well.

1243  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin history on: July 08, 2023, 05:03:07 PM

I'm already doubting that it can not be manipulated because of Blackrock's interest in Bitcoin. Once they use the huge amount of money in BTC and buy them all up. I think they will own the network by then. And then they can also use the government to regulate mining with ESG compliance and so on. I remember there were people in a podcast discussing all these and they were worried too.

Good to see Dennis Porter testifying for Mining benefits.

1244  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Healthy mindset to save earnings from gambling on: July 08, 2023, 04:16:54 PM

There have been many lottery winners who got millions in their hands but go broke after years. They party and give away their money as well to please some friends. These people are pleasers and did care what others are saying about them so they were naively vulnerable. For them, it's easy to spend the money that they also got by winning a jackpot.

They learned the hard way about people with so much money have tons of friends but are also unimportant when they have no money.
1245  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: What attracted you to gambling?Share your experience whether good/bad. on: July 08, 2023, 02:54:27 PM
In crypto casinos, it's always BTC that attracts users to gamble. The opportunity to grow your BTC is always irresistible because it's like hitting 2 stones with one bird.
Bitcoin price goes up in a bull run and then they win bigger in value while they also won those BTC from playing on casino.

Two regrets also when they lost their BTC I know this feeling because I also lost some of mine. But I think most of us are also traders, when the market is just too dull and no particular trends that move the price, traders turn casino players.
1246  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Olympic Games, but doping is allowed?! on: July 07, 2023, 08:27:27 PM

A bit radical and will really leave an impression on the next generation. And it's just not track and field or other sports but Combat sport is among the game. This is an enhanced drug promotion Olympics and most probably the ones who use Meth are gonna be the ones winning. It's not about agility and skills but about what drugs can do for you.

Aron Desouza is a funny guy. He has a good point that its anti-science to not allow performance-enhance drugs. I don't see anything wrong with using it but not in sports competitions.
If you are a Witcher, I guess you can take as many enhanced drugs and go slay monsters.
1247  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🥊 The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: July 07, 2023, 08:09:50 PM
From my point of view the UFC 290 will be so far the best UFC event of the year, I don't know why but I have a bad feeling about Moreno, I feel like he will lose the belt this weekend, but maybe it's only a random feeling, and for this event I only have one bet, and that's Yair Rodrigez to win, I catch an earlier x4.5 on that fight, so, let's see if "El pantera" do the magic and make us hit the moon this weekend.

It's a long shot, Yair can make it if he can stun Volk in the first round with his high kick and with combo follow-up. Once Volk survives in the next rounds, it may be hard to tell whether Yair can make it. There are others who also see Yair going to win. It's just not easy to see Volkanovski not fight for his way. He has greater motivation here to get a rematch against Islam.

No way I would bet for Nick BO with the current odds. He was compared to Brock Lesnar by Bisping because he is a big guy but can also move fast like a flyweight.
1248  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Do you Have Any Bitcoin Stories from a Decade Ago? on: July 07, 2023, 07:26:43 PM
I believe the Story of Taihuttu Family is most iconic story for me because this happened when I'm new in the Bitcointalk forum and many believe that time that he is crazy because he sold everything for Bitcoin and let his family live on a very simple environment. Their sacrifice that time is already worth it now since they do that crazy investment gamble when Bitcoin is 900$. I think they are so rich now since they still hold their asset the last time they made interview last 2021.

Source: https://www.thenationalnews.com/business/money/2021/08/17/this-family-sold-everything-they-owned-to-invest-in-bitcoin-when-it-was-900/

Also remember the story I'm already here when the news about them came out. I think he knew exactly what he is doing and most probably he trusted someone who he took advice from. Getting all in BTC though is very risky but they did it and live in a bus after it. Not sure how things are after every bear market, I only hear some news about the family every bull run.

Hope they stay safe all the time. They are popular and if someone with intentions to rob them, it could be impossible to be vigilant all the time.
1249  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Do you Have Any Bitcoin Stories from a Decade Ago? on: July 07, 2023, 06:35:01 PM
<snip>

Why do you think the guy is a looser, who gave Bitcoin a value back in times when it still didn't have some "official" value. AFAIR the guy who offered 10k BTC for two pizzas had a lot more of Bitcoins because IIRC he programmed one of the first GPU miners (not exactly sure about that). For him it was a fair price for what he ordered. He had the balls to give Bitcoin a first value and challenge a trade.

Yes, we tend to look at it from today's perspective with current rates, but this is kind of stupid as it doesn't have anything to do with the reality back then when some bitcoin-rich guy craved for two pizzas. Totally bonkers to calculate how many hundred millions in fiat the price for two pizzas is today that was paid when Bitcoin had not yet a price.

It's just a Bitcoin story from a decade ago. It's something that those rich Bitcoin holders get to look back at. Not sure if they would regret it because they probably have more than 10K BTC as well.

One story that is funny in a way was the StarCraft gaming tournament that took place a decade ago also and the prizes to win are:

1st place: $500
2nd place: $250
3rd place: 150
4th: 100
5th:   25BTC

I know it will not happen anymore but if they organize a tournament again, participants might likely want BTC for the champ.

1250  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Having no money to invest in Bitcoin is even better on: July 07, 2023, 05:32:53 PM
I disagree.

Not all Bitcoin investors are newbies, and not all of the newbies that want to invest their money in Bitcoin are not always in the hurry, it depends on a certain person I guess. Having no money and just studying what Bitcoin truly is will just make you miss opportunities in investing, and that will become one of your regrets in the long run. So having money is an advantage, because you can invest whenever you want in cryptocurrency.

I have the same opinion as you. If we learn about bitcoin but don't have the money to invest, it will cause us to miss a lot of opportunities, as well as we will quickly become bored and not motivated enough to continue. Instead of spending a lot of time learning about bitcoin with no money to invest, I would choose to find work to earn money. In any field, if we can both practice and learn the theory, we will progress very quickly. So when we have money, we have more advantages than just learning cliché theory.

For someone who has money and plans to invest in BTC, he will consider learning about it since he will put some money into BTC. I doubt that a person in his right mind will just dive to invest without knowing what BTC is. As a matter of fact, he already learned everything about BTC before investing.

Some users come from other markets as well like stocks and the forex market, they know how markets work and all they just need to learn is the industry. Sometimes, they didn't even need to learn the technology like the blockchain, all they need is the charts in order to make money.
1251  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: The fight between Mark Zuckerberg and Elon Musk. Who you betting on? on: July 07, 2023, 04:56:38 PM
Well, things are definitely getting heated up as Elon's Twitter has or is in the process to file a lawsuit against Meta for launching a rival app called Threads.
It's only hype, there's no guarantee threads will survive in the long run as many people still like to discuss in reddit and twitter. The biggest reason why twitter has a huge traffic is they allow porn videos, most of social medias not allow this especially it created by Mark. I don't know threads will accept porn videos or not, but I think it's not. So twitter is still able to survive regardless any social medias come up.

I don't think the fight would happen, Elon's mom didn't allow it.

It reminds me something that happened some years ago, with a social media that allowed NSFW videos and pictures. I think it was tumblr or maybe I am wrong. Anyways, if I recall correctly they decided to terminate any content which contained pornography and people started to migrate from there.

In the case of threads, I think it is still too early to say, but considering how some media have been attacking Musk this last year, I would not be surprised if Threads ends up having the backing and advertisement support of many in positions of power, in order to damage Musk's ego and wallet.

Myspace was once like that allowing NSFW until social media was used in politics and there goes myspace whacked.  Threads will probably be used to censor topics just like what Twitter was before Elon took over. There are powerful people behind Zuckerberg launching to counter Twitter. They wanna grab the attention and not allow people to watch Tucker Carlson on Twitter.

As for this fight to happen, it really might not happen at all. Musk has much to do.
1252  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Game Winner Result Changed After 24 hours (Defaulted) on: July 07, 2023, 03:23:55 PM
Wow, this is not very common to happen, I particularly never experienced this situation.
I was very curious and looked to see if there is something in the rules that details this situation, and I found it, at least on the platform I use:

Quote
➔ In the case where there is an overruling of a match result by the organizer due to unforeseen circumstances -
such as cheating - all bets on that match will be voided.
Source: Duelbits

So, the bets will be voided, but I don't what happens if the users already did a withdraw for example, pretty hard to deal with this situation, since the campanies and the users are not guilty in this case

Damn, whichever the decision goes there is a party that will be mad not just at the platform. The cheat seem effective since they won, they just however were caught though.
While the Tundra team celebrates, those who bet for Tundra didn't win a thing.

If they have withdrawn I guess they are lucky, I hope the bookmaker will not take away some of his funds when he once again deposits coins to his account. Because I think they will. Its a money loss from them if they allow it.
1253  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: P2P will safe your life on: July 06, 2023, 06:34:41 PM
In a situation when a government asserts total control over the payment systems, P2P may not be a solution. You could still do it, sure, but you could be facing investigation for suspicious activities if you keep sending/receiving money from unaffiliated strangers.
The only true way to prevent censorship of financial transaction is to not get corrupt governments get into power, and create serious political resistance when there are signals of government overreaching their powers.

That's the problem I have with many bitcoiners. They're way too tolerant of any attacks on cash payment, or sometimes even cheering for them hoping that "It's all good because bitcoin will replace cash". That's a silly approach. If the rulers won't tolerate cash because they can't control it, then they will introduce a crackdown on Bitcoin, it's just a matter of time.

Do you think that CBDC will eradicate Paper Money? I don't think so and even if it's going to happen it will be very slow because we have people that don't want to use digital payment still, it's going to be a matter of choice, choose what suits your convenience.

It seems inevitable to be honest even just due to impracticality of paper cash and high processing costs. You don't even need CBDC for that, cash use is already on steep decline. Masses will always go with the easiest and most comfortable solutions, and digital payments are far easier than handling cash. At very best we could hope for cash to function as a niche way of payment. There are countries like Slovakia who actually added right to cash payments to their constitution. And to me being able to use it (even if 99% of the population don't) is good enough.

The bank notes are going to disappear in a few months to a year after CBDC. Just think people are forced to use CBDC because they can't buy any stuff from grocery stores if you're not using CBDC. The government will make it also available to all, probably even giving phones to the elderly so they can receive stimulus packages thru CBDC.

Easier to distribute stimi to people that has CBDC account on their phones. You'll see the benefit so they'd really going to sign up for it.
1254  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: It's on! 2024 US Presidential Election Biden+Harris Vs Trump Bitcoin betting.... on: July 06, 2023, 06:23:34 PM
I don't think Us is ready for a woman president. It's always men, Hillary has no chance.  Yes. It's a Deja Vu for Hillary if she finds herself debating Trump again. lol Funniest on earth while Hillary takes it seriously, Trump is just laughing at her. Donald is a troll.

^ The open south border brings the drug of choice of the poor guys which is fentanyl.  Looking back on history, the Chinese were once addicted to Opium which caused their fall. Now it's China that is buying American companies and giving loans.

It was the NATO that first used drugs as a weapon to wage proxy war against countries on the opposite side of the spectrum. After they took control of Afghanistan in 2001, NATO soldiers encouraged opium poppy production and even guarded the poppy farms. Heroin produced in Afghanistan was then sent to countries such as Russia and Iran, where millions of young people died as a result of drug overdose. Now China is giving the Americans a taste of their own medicine, by shipping fentanyl to the United States. The death toll is much lower though. As per latest reports, around 100,000 per year.

They are so pink, I love it. Big industry in Afghanistan.
Fentanyl causes no death but they turn a person into a zombie. You literally can see one who is high on it just struggle to stand up but dance upside down. It's like watching a comedy zombie movie.
1255  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: The fight between Mark Zuckerberg and Elon Musk. Who you betting on? on: July 06, 2023, 05:41:26 PM
So even though I know nothing is going to happen, I'm just curious to hear what the actual reason was behind all this if that ever happens, I doubt if they will reveal the reason behind this to the public but I'm sure there is something which we can't see and they are doing it only for that.

They won't fight that is for sure! META the Instagram parent company is copying Twitter. They have recently launched a feature know as Threads few hours back and all of this is just a marketing gimmick to promote this new feature. If you want to how it all started then you need to read the OP. It is all written in their as usual everything associated with technology billionaires is either promoting their projects on their platform or manipulating the markets. We did saw how Elon Musk deliberately manipulated Bitcoin price and a meme coin price using Twitter and later bought it when he relaized the power of social media.

Do they have to resort to gimmickry if they are going to launch something, both technology giants can launch a platform and their users will easily adopt it, just like the first time Mark Zuckerberg launches
Instagram and recently,  reels, right now it's still a hot topic and both camps are not backing up but you are right until they sign a contract the fight is still questionable.

I don't think so. Making a speculative fight doesn't really make sense to me just because they are planning to launch something as the names like Mark Zuckerberg and Elon Musk surely doesn't need something like this just to become relevant in the public and so that the people will know if they are launching something or not. The question now is why Mark was the one who launched it first when in-fact it was Elon who started this engagement? As I said, doesn't really make sense.

While Elon was trying to turn Twitter into a town hall of the world and video hosting site, Facebook is about to kill its plan. Doesn't sound like a gimmick, they are rivals. This is like China vs the US already lol Zuckerberg for US while Elon for China.

There were reports that Zuckerberg is developing a Twitter-like platform that will compete with the real Twitter bought by Musk. This is a threat to Elon's new toy and seems like the war is really on between the two. It's just unsure if they will really be doing it physically.

1256  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: I think topics/discussion on gambling addictions is too much on: July 06, 2023, 04:04:52 PM

The lessons to learn from this kind of topic are inexhaustible. From trying to move away from the act of playing uncontrollably to the financial burden and obviously, those who are married have alot to learn from it because addiction in gambling usually set couples apart if the wife is not in support of it. People are sharing enormous experience of their experience on it and effort made on the good sides or and the bad side.

We will always have one or two topics on gambling addiction because gambling and gambling addiction cannot be separated into a forum that discusses gambling addiction, the only thing that we should avoid are topics that keep on repeating and answers that are redundant, we cannot stop people from pouring their emotions here and posting their good and bad experience in this board, because by posting their experience and emotions he can contribute on how players avoid to going addicted to gambling.

I have a hunch that casino owners probably didn't like the idea of gambling addiction threads getting so many in the gambling forum, it wouldn't help their promotion of the casino which obviously they see these threads as a problem. They want us to gamble of course and not to quit! Any guest in the forum will also be seeing those threads, it's kind of counter the marketing they are doing.

What I find odd though is that those who are talking about how to quit and avoid getting addicted to gambling are wearing signature of casinos.  Grin
1257  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Why do you favor betting on spesific sport? on: July 06, 2023, 03:37:13 PM
Predicting a champion in league is completely hard, but usually it's not away from the top 3 favorited teams. But I'd consider to bet on a match, not predicting the champion.

Not only the Champions league, predicting any sports isn't easy at all, because even games with low odds can lose, how many times we have seen our parlay lose by 1 match, it's really common.

Personally, I like to bet in UFC because the fights are fast, you don't need to be waiting a long time to see your bet results, and since it's a 1 vs 1 sport is common to win with the underdogs, you only need to see one good punch to turn the odds in your side.

Underdog winning all the time is not really true in combat sports like MMA or boxing. I have been a fan of UFC  for quite awhile and certainly the promotion knows how to handle which fighter needs to fight who so that the public can witness fair matches.

There's not much David vs  Goliath match in the UFC these days unlike the early phase of UFC where there is no weight division.
Even on other sports which weight division is something that should really be having because its really way too simple on betting up on those sports if ever this category wont really be that applied because the bigger and heavier would really be definitely be able to win but of course we do really have that underdog chances on beating up the favorites but we know that this doesnt happen all the time and something that you cant really
rely on to have this kind of betting behavior.

In the talks about betting on a certain sport on which you are knowledgeable then it is really just that a common approach or must be to be done. Gambling or betting is for fun and betting on the sport on which
you are completely that fully aware or does know its mechanics and does know teams is more entertaining to watch on which every bet you do make would really be having that significant
worth of the money you do spend on that on which you wouldnt really feel out that it would be a waste.

When you know the sport as well as the athletes, you also have an idea of who might win. This is where you can see David vs Goliath matches, especially in tournaments as they are obliged to play against the dominant team.

You can't eliminate luck entirely, as it is one of the factors that all gamblers seek. However, there are bettors who have confidence in their skills and knowledge of the sports they are betting on. These individuals prioritize consistency and rely on their expertise rather than solely relying on luck. They see luck as an additional bonus in their earnings.
The fact that if luck is having less percentage in helping people to win the game especially in the football sportbetting. People with very good knowledge about it can predict it who gonna win the game easily.
Sometimes luck can also lead you into the lose. It likes when you are putting your bet for the popular team or individual that will face amateur club or individual but luck was helping this amateur club to win the game.
That gives you bad result as you will be losing your bet. Luck can lead us to the win or lose. I do agree not to take it seriously.

Rarely happen but it's a bad day for the crowd's favorite team. I'd be on the losing team when this happens as I always bet based on the odds, especially in soccer. Amateur or the underdog always lose.
1258  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🥊 The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: July 06, 2023, 03:11:24 PM
This time whole main card looks promising plus Lawlers fight from prelims Cheesy Another test for Volkanovski. How many title defences he has already made? Few more and new UFC record? Arent Volkanovski and Makhachev are planning to fight again? First they were not planning to do it, but later Volkan insisted on him winning their fight and media start to buzz again lately.

I am really excited for them to fight again, but for me, Alexander Volkonovski's next opponent Yair Rodriguez is not slack, and Volk has said that this is going to be one crazy fight because Yair's movement will be very difficult to predict because he got unique move and technique on his set, pretty much Alexander Volkanovski will use his wits and fight IQ in winning in this fight but for sure Rodriguez doesn't have infinite stamina and so Volk will surely capitalize on this,

I think that Rodriguez gonna be declassed badly this weekend. You are correct when talking about Rodriguez stamina. He is always breathing hard in late rounds. Take his opponents previous fight - after 5 rounds against one top p4p fighters, he was ready to continue. Rodriguez is a master of all kind of kicks. Gimli, even though isnt highest fighter, got nice reach. He can take Yairs leg, take down or counterpunch hard, and Yair has weak boxing skills. Yair already lost to Holloway, and Holloway is like Volkanovski on low settings Cheesy

It's going to be a battle. Unfortunate to see Yair is paired with someone bound to do more. Volkanov will make sure he gets close and wrestle Yair, this is going to be challenging for both since Yair also understands this is what Volkanov would need to do so Yair can't use his kicks.

There are so many good matches in this event. Moreno by Decision is my gamble, just maybe the fight will last.
Whittaker is up to get a 3rd fight against Izzy, I think it's an easy win against Dricus.

1260  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Will you find it offensive to be referred to as an addicted gambler? on: July 05, 2023, 08:30:38 PM
Many people find it difficult to accept who they are and the bad habits that they have, accepting a habit is the first step that will determine if any help offered to you will work. As a gambler, will you find it offensive if you are referred to as a gambling addict? will you easily accept it or try to give excuses like some other people do, saying that they are not addicted to gambling when the signs are clearly there. Do you think identifying as an addicted gambler will make people stereotype you. The answer is different for every gambler here.

If you've gotten to the point where someone has called you out as being addicted to gambling, then you might want to sit up and listen. It's only something that someone who sees you regularly or who you share a lot of information with that will be likely to identify such a problem. If it's from someone random, maybe they're just projecting or you've not explained your situation adequately enough. However you should always be trying to learn and take assess new knowledge throughout life, sometimes we sleep walk into such a issues. It could be the wake up call that you need or that other people have been too scared or reluctant to highlight to you. Take a step back and think if you do need to change your ways.

When a person accepts they are a gambling addict right in front of their friends or family, it will alienate everyone around them. It's not easy to just admit it when all the time they portray themselves as a good model citizen yet the next day they hear something else. It takes time to sink in.

Even if it's true that a person is really a gambler and addicted to a degree, he will always lie to avoid prosecution by the judging public. It's offensive maybe but more importantly, they are protecting their integrity thats why its offensive.
