1521  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Do You Think Bitcoin Mining Will Be Banned Due to Fears of Climate Change? on: October 22, 2022, 08:44:32 PM
This is not an area where I am an expert, but I will try to provide some insight. Is Bitcoin mining contributing to climate change? Probably. There are definitely positives and negatives from the perspective of climate change, so it is hard to sum up a clear-cut opinion. But that does not mean Bitcoin mining will be banned anytime soon. While it may contribute more heat to our planet, so does the existence of these big institutions that hoard wealth. And we all know how entrenched they are in society at this point, regardless of what benefits they might bring (which in itself is debatable). If you are doing something wrong, there are always going to be people trying to fix it, or at least mitigate the damage. The problem then becomes one of accountability and sustainability, especially when energy sources like coal and oil are being subsidized by government entities who claim their environmental responsibility is not strong enough to lead the way into technologies like alternative energy or energy efficiency directives and standards. So, where does Bitcoin mining fit in? Probably a lot more controls and regulations, but not a full ban. When you ban something, you lose all control over it, and governments do not like that.
1522  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Cryptocurrency and Gambling on: October 22, 2022, 08:12:44 PM
Although I am no expert in gambling, I have been involved with Bitcoin for quite some time. It is definitely not a matter of luck for me. Bitcoin is unlike any other form of payment ever used before. It is a peer-to-peer payment network, meaning that no central authority or middlemen are required to verify any transactions. No banks, no clearing houses, just individuals sending value directly to one another. It is a completely decentralized system, and no single person or organization has control over it. Bitcoin is also a deflationary currency, which means that it has the potential to appreciate in value over time. The number of bitcoins that will ever be created is finite, and this creates an economic incentive for people to invest in the system.

Now, how does this have anything to do with gambling?

Hello guys, I'm a newbie. I'll love to know if it can be possible to rewrite the program of a Bitcoin wallet application software that has bitcoins in it?
Thanks

Please explain. What do you mean by "rewrite the program"?

If you have some programming skill, then it is possible to "rewrite" Bitcoin Core source code and make a clone of the program that can do everything that original program does and more. But there is no real benefit to doing so, because nobody will care about your clone. What exactly do you want to achieve?

By the way, bitcoins are not in the program but on the blockchain.
1524  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Would Bitcoin Survive A Nuclear War? on: October 20, 2022, 11:21:48 PM
What do you think about it?

That is impossible to say. Most likely, no one would even be around to watch it unravel. That said, if somehow mankind survives long enough for the world to begin to rebuild, Bitcoin may still exist as a relic from the pre-apocalypse era.
1525  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Throwback: Bitcoin was $64k today, a year ago. on: October 20, 2022, 11:17:24 PM
The truth is, all investments are risky. Whether you are investing in stocks or Bitcoins, the most you can really do is choose an investment opportunity that matches your risk-profile. And as far as Bitcoin goes, it is clear that the potential for profit has never been higher. While short-term price movements may be uncertain, the long-term trend for Bitcoin remains bullish, and many experts believe we will eventually see Bitcoin prices surpassing last year's all-time high.
1526  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Is this possible? on: October 19, 2022, 10:00:47 PM
If we are talking about real keyboard (device) hacking, I guess anything is possible if the hacker had physical access to your device. If we consider that there are USB cables that can steal coins from hardware wallets, we can assume that something similar can exist for keyboard hacking as well. For example, someone can create a USB device that connects between the keyboard and the computer that will register everything that is typed on the keyboard and record it in internal memory or wirelessly send the data to the hacker. If this device is plugged into your computer while you are typing, it can record all the characters that you type. And if the hacker has access to this data, he or she will be able to recover your passwords or private keys.
1527  Economy / Reputation / Re: [Discussion] Bitcointalk Community Awards 🏆 on: October 19, 2022, 09:34:22 PM
Wow it's almost one year, time flies.

Yes, a very important point sending merit does affect voting but I guess this will be part of it and we have to accept it. Yes rules can placed for example not to count votes of certain users based on some xyz criteria but will this not introduce some sort of discrimination too?

I don't think it's discrimination, as long as the rules are clear and they're presented before the voting starts.
After voting begins, no changes should be made to the rules unless it is something serious that you have to do.

I also do not think that this will lead to discrimination. Since this is a vote for the members who contribute the most to the community, it makes sense that only active members have the right to vote.

Last year there was a rule:
Quote
You must have 50 merit or be a full member or higher to vote

I think it would be good to expand this rule to take into account only merits earned during the current year. It does not have to be a limit of 50 merits, but maybe it could be reduced to 20 or only 10.

If the amount involved is substantial, it is advisable to hire a lawyer. A lawyer who has experience with similar cases will be preferable, as he will know what steps to take in order to get a court order freezing funds. With such a court order, the exchange can be ordered to freeze the account and hold the funds until a decision has been reached on whether they should be returned to you or not.
That is if OP is lucky enough that the hacker will keep those coins in the centralized exchange long enough for the paperwork to be completed for the freezing to take place. If I was a thief, I would probably try to get away as fast as possible and not use those centralized exchanges for those purposes at all.

If the scammers had to go through KYC at Gate.io and Huobi, a good lawyer could eventually get the exchange to reveal the names of the account holders. By then, the coins will probably be long gone. But OPs lawyer could then go against those individuals, assuming they didn't use stolen identities and KYC information of some poor bastards that have nothing to do with this.

Yes. That is right. The OP can't really do much about a scammer on his own. That is why I recommended that the OP hire someone from the legal profession, so that he could request a freeze of funds and/or contact information of the scammer if he discovered that the stolen coins ended up on a centralized exchange. If the scammer sold them on an exchange that is regulated by FinCEN (or some other similar agencies in other countries in the world), then the OP would have a pretty good chance of getting at least some info from the exchange, which will ultimately enable him to take further legal action.
1529  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Help me out!! Exam-related questions on: October 18, 2022, 08:24:19 PM
Hello guys,

Upcoming week I have my exam about bitcoins.
~

I am just curious, what kind of exam is that? Is it maybe related to a job interview?  If so, I really think you should research the answers to these questions on your own. You will get the necessary knowledge that will benefit you in your future career. If you have difficulty with a particular question, feel free to ask, but do not rely on this site to give you all the answers. Also, I would recommend that you try to answer the questions yourself before consulting this site. It will help you learn more and you may be surprised by what you find out!
1530  Other / Archival / Re: The use of mining energy for the implementation of useful and good services. on: October 18, 2022, 07:54:15 PM
The future of the project is bright because Bitcoinbloem has managed to test and prove that Bitcoin mining does not have to be wasteful for energy consumption and that different industries can join together and complement each other. It will continue to receive international advertisement and attention as time moves on. The project may also be scaled up to produce various other products, such as vegetables. It could also be used to grow other plants that require special care and attention, such as medicinal herbs. The project will continue to grow and expand, as more people become aware of the benefits of using the technology. This means that Bitcoinbloem is not just a one-time project, but something that can become a long-term contribution to the crypto community and society in general. I wish them all the luck and success they deserve.
1531  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Multiple transaction on Metamask on: October 18, 2022, 07:31:47 PM
Is it possible to make multiple transactions using metamask instead of sending one after the other?

No, I do not think it is possible. It is not about MetaMask, it is about the way transactions work in general on the Ethereum network. You can make multiple transactions only using a dapp or custom smart contract, as far as I know.

thx for the suggestions.

With such a court order, the exchange can be ordered to freeze the account and hold the funds until a decision has been reached on whether they should be returned to you or not. In some cases, a lawyer will advise you to file a claim with the court and wait for its decision before taking any other steps.
1533  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What efforts have you made to raise bitcoin awareness in your community? on: October 17, 2022, 08:46:32 PM
None, to be honest.

I don't want anyone to know that I have Bitcoin, and only the people close to me who I would trust with my life know. Everyone else, when the subject comes up, I get interested in it and ask questions as if I don't know much. It's funny because there are more than one who goes as an expert because he has read two things and has no idea.
It’s useless to keep on talking things and spread about its good news to the people when in the first place, they always believe it’s not even legit and definitely a big scam. So i think I’m just tired of it hearing and just learn to keep it to myself. After all, when the government approves it, people will eventually start to see its positive sides and embrace bitcoin like they did to fiat. Although I am also sharing concepts of bitcoin to some of my close friends, but the intention is purely for investments discussion.

I have found that it heavily depends on the type of situation you find yourself in. If you bring up something about cryptocurrencies around a number of people who are familiar with them, you will get a range of opinions, and they will likely have their own opinions on the matter. This can lead to some heated discussions if you feel strongly about one side or another of an issue. This can have heavy implications when discussing bitcoin with friends who are not as well-versed in the subject. At the same time, if you attempt to talk about how much you love your bitcoin experience around family members who may not be as tech-savvy and who are unfamiliar with cryptocurrencies, it can lead to confusion and questions that will make you want to avoid talking about it all together.
1534  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How hard to detect scams nowadays? on: October 17, 2022, 08:36:05 PM
Once again, don't invest in any cryptocurrency except Bitcoin
~
Bitcoin do not guarantee secured profits but will ensure high potential to be profitable. That way, it will be clearer particularly for newbies not to trust other crypto projects but only stick to bitcoin as it can always be legit and never part of scams. However, people also get scammed by their own obvious stupid decisions, that will teach them to invest in new crypto projects and end up losing their funds.

Well put. Young investors need to know that they are exposing their funds to a high level of risk and there is no absolute guarantee that investments will turn out well. But, after all, if bitcoin has survived the many ups and downs since its release, it is safe to bet that it will still lead the cryptocurrency world. Although no one can guarantee high profits when investing in bitcoin, but this cryptocurrency has risen from $10k to $60k per coin in several months at the end of 2021. The potential for profitability is still present. Thus, I am sure that bitcoin will maintain its position as the leading cryptocurrency in the world of cryptocurrency and ensure profits for investors that invest long term with it.

Last I checked, walletexplorer.com is quite outdated and does not know of many of the newer wallets belonging to various exchanges and services. You might have better luck checking out the following sites:

https://oxt.me/
https://www.breadcrumbs.app/

Here is another website to check out that might be useful:

what does it mean?

According to glasschain.org both of these addresses are linked to the gate.io exchange.

1536  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: About crypto? on: October 16, 2022, 01:40:57 PM
sorry sir it's all my friend's account if you don't believe it's okay. and I will also explain that the wallet I use is indeed the same as the one they use, but they have sold their wallet to me along with the existing token. because my wallet, which is often used, has been hacked and cannot be accessed anymore. I am grateful if you can understand.

What a lame excuse! Why on earth would anyone buy another person's wallet after their own has been compromised by a hacker?
That doesn't make any sense at all. If nothing else, after allegedly being hacked once, it makes sense to take all the security measures to prevent it from happening again. Using someone else's wallet is the complete opposite of that.

And so you are either a liar or incredibly stupid. Which one is it?
1537  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bitcoin Logo on: October 16, 2022, 12:44:37 PM
Also, just a heads up: there's no "official" Bitcoin logo.

I think it is fair to say that the most recognizable and probably the most used Bitcoin logo is designed by member bitboy, back in 2010. This is one of the first logos that were created for Bitcoin by a community member. It is a simple design, and it has proven to be timeless.

Hi guys, just drop by to say hi and to share with you some of the graphics I have done, feel free to download. All files are in PNG format, and almost all of them with transparent background. Hope you will find them useful.
~

I do not know why the images are no longer available in the original post, but anyone can find them in the archived version: https://web.archive.org/web/20130525203057/https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1631.0;all

Best of all, according to the author: "Everyone can make use of the graphics freely even for commercial purposes with this license and not bound by any restriction."
1538  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What makes Dev different on: October 16, 2022, 12:24:07 PM
There are far too many scams in ICOs and crypto investments, investors are now much more careful and aware of the potential risk. This is a good thing, but it also means that this has made it harder for companies to raise funds, especially those that have legitimate business ideas. Therefore, it will be very important to give potential investors enough information. Investors want to see that you have made an effort to present a professional image of your project and to convince them with all the available materials. Because quite honestly, a large number of ICOs are launched by people that do not really need blockchain or distributed ledger technology. They simply want to take advantage of the hype and get some quick funding before their useless project fails.

The best way to reach investors is to post your pitch on ICO sites and other crypto investment forums, this will give you a good chance to get some publicity for your project. See it as exposure, not promotion. The worst thing you can do is try to cash in quickly and not really have a plan or work towards the projects completion. If you are open and honest with your potential investors, you will be surprised at how many people can help you out. It's all about building the trust first. You are asking them for their hard-earned money, so show them that you are worth giving that money to.
1539  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Does everyone want bitcoin to be stable in price? on: October 16, 2022, 11:39:42 AM
To be honest I think we need a taste of both worlds I.e stable and volatile as they come with their own pros and cons. A stable bitcoin could easily invite people and institutional investors into this ecosystem but then again looking at it from a traders point of view some volatility would be good to trade as this could be comparable to gold or Nasdaq which are highly rewarding if you catch the right market move.

Sorry to disappoint you, but bitcoin never was a 1-way bet (at least it is not at the moment). The price will go up if enough people think it is valuable and will "use it as digital gold". And the reverse is also true. From the perspective of trading, the volatile market is ideal. From the perspective of adoption, stable market is better. A balance between these two could drive this ecosystem to new heights. That is why I am holding, because I believe in its potential. But the point is, Bitcoin is not for everyone. It has its pros and it has its cons. You need to research if you have plans on being a part of the ecosystem. You should know what you are getting into and be prepared to lose everything if you are just a trader looking to profit on the swing of volatility.
1540  Other / Meta / Re: Having an "I solemnly swear / attestation / liar liar pants on fire" thread on: October 16, 2022, 09:21:44 AM
Well, yes, I like both ideas, but consider this: liars are everywhere. It is inevitable that they will be here. I doubt that such people will voluntarily publish incriminating evidence about themselves here ... at least not if they have any common sense or self-preservation. Liars will always try to cover their tracks. If they admit to lying or confirm their lie and a thread provides proof of their guilt - then yes, they are guilty as charged. If they deny it - then there isn't much more you can do because of the nature of this place. You cannot force someone to admit they are a liar.

So, I think it will be more useful to have a thread where members can post evidence that someone is lying. And just like we have threads to expose alt accounts or plagiarists, I think it would be helpful for members to post evidence about someone who has lied. If someone is obviously lying, and you can prove it - then it would be great if we could have a thread where the evidence could be posted. It would also help if other members could verify those claims and offer additional proof, if necessary. I think a thread like this will help clear up confusion about what is true and what isn't, especially in regards to controversial topics.
