So many out there, how do you choose what to invest in?

Try to see the idea behind the coin. See if there is something fundamentally different.
After that, it is a lottery.  Tongue
1522  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: ETH ... band of idiots -or- band of fools? on: April 24, 2016, 03:29:31 AM
I'm sure Vitalik wanted to dump all of them at these prices, but he had to settle with 25% in an attempt to avoid lawyers, hitmen, etc.

It is not possible to dump all his coins at these prices. I don't see the market being that deep.
Anything more and the market would have crashed.
1523  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Kicking Myself I Didn't Invest More In Ethereum on: April 22, 2016, 03:40:06 PM
Why don't you start buying more etherum now before it shoots up even more. That's better than sitting down and kicking yourself, don't you think? Undecided

I will buy some Ethereum when the price drops below $6. Then I will wait for the price rises to $20 to sell.

The price has already dropped by 10% today. You should start nibbling at ETH.
You can buy even more if the price drops to $6, but you should not miss this opportunity.
1524  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin going Up to 500? on: April 22, 2016, 03:33:43 PM
Bitcoin is going to 500 by the end of week  Smiley And i think there are 2 solutions when block reward is halved, it will reach 1000$ or it will die...i dont see profitability of mining half reward for same $ with harder dificulty..maybe china have cheap electricity  Grin
I honestly do not think it will rise to the amount of 500 dollar by the end of this week, it will take some time to still rise 50 dollar more in my eyes.
Most likely it will happen around the beginning of the next month indeed.

Eventhough it won't happen by end of this week, possibility is still high to get at that $500 floor even without halving that will happen because that is expected to happen and no one can stop it even another tantrums by a core developer.

We will see $500 bitcoin in next couple of weeks, and it is predicted that bitcoin will achieve this value before the halving and that would be the best value to hold.

The upsurge is looking strong now, but I don't think it will run up to $500 that quickly.
What is more important is the support levels that form after this rally.
1525  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What is your current crypto portfolio? on: April 22, 2016, 03:31:51 PM
BTC and ETH.
BTC shall remain my all time favourite, but I don't want to miss out on other rallies.  Grin
1526  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: ETH GETTING DUMPED HARD!!!! on: April 19, 2016, 11:38:30 PM
That dude that runs the webbot Cliff High. His webbot predicted the last 200-400 run up in bitcoin right before it did. He says the webbot is predicting that Silver, and Btc are to start a big to run up anytime now. He also said the webbot predicted Ethereum will do well in the future. Btc, and precious metals are suppose to run up because of something major happening in the economy. My bet is when this starts happening, and its looking like it might be now. Eth will get pulled up big as well.

I really don't care about silver.  Grin
If both BTC and ethereum perform well, it is good for the community. The question is which cryptocoin would outperform?
At this point, should I be holding more ETH or BTC?
1527  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: EDONcoin warning! on: April 19, 2016, 11:35:21 PM
This is one reason why people shy away from new alts.
You can easily get ripped off if you don't do your due diligence.
1528  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Premier League Prediction Thread (EPL) on: April 19, 2016, 11:30:25 PM
United are still in the battle for top 4 and will push for a win in this game. But they still have huge problems in attack and we saw it in the last game against the outsider Aston Villa, where won only with 1-0. Meanwhile, Palace are in good form after 3 draws and 1 win from the last 4 games in the Premier League, so I expect a tough and under 2.5 game.

Yes, although Crystal Palace are languishing at 16th spot, nobody expects Manchester United to score heavily against them.
Under 2.5 goals is a good bet to go for in this game.
1529  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: The Ethereum Paradox on: April 18, 2016, 10:00:24 PM
Satoshi left because he knew he was in danger if he was a public persona, he had nothing to gain. It would damage Bitcoin as a project with "a CEO".

Also, the point of Bitcoin is that we don't need "Wall Street CEO's" permission to grow. If they don't want to get involved, others will, and at some point they will be forced to join or sink.

If Wall Street doesn't make the most of this new opportunity, Silicon Valley will. As Jamie Dimon said about fintech "Silicon Valley is coming". At some point, they will see the lost revenue and get involved with crypto companies.
1530  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Ethereum shuts down forums because $300 / month is too much on: April 18, 2016, 09:57:08 PM
Ethereum.org's loss is bitcointalk's gain.
I guess all the activity can just migrate to the altcoin forum.

Was there a lot of activity in the first place?   I've had the impression that it's a place that attracts relatively few interested parties.

According to the OP, there was activity and it was the only place with such activity.
In any case $300/month isn't much...
1531  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Bernie Madoff would love crypto coins ! on: April 18, 2016, 09:54:14 PM
The more i read OP's post the more right he sounds/is.

Save for a few coins here and there making a legit effort, most altworld gone to shit.

I got IMPORTANT Opinions dammit and by god your gonna hear 'em !!

But seriously why doesn't someone find a way to ask Berni Madoff what he thinks of this stuff.
Just imagine how bad it would look if Madoff says (from jail) ..yeah Altcoins are a scam  Cheesy

With a 150 year prison sentence, Madoff wouldn't care about what goes on in the outside world.
I don't think any altcoin is going to challenge his title of the biggest ponzi scheme.

1533  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Stable altcoin? on: April 16, 2016, 11:19:54 AM
it depends "how long" you need it to be stable, in altcoins long price stability is to be considered rare

for a monthly range i would suggest LTC
for a weekly range i pick DOGE
long run? BTC Smiley

In the end, a high market capitalization is required for stability.
Otherwise, these coins are susceptible to pump and dump.
So Bitcoin is the best bet.
1534  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Any new airdrop coins? on: April 16, 2016, 11:06:58 AM
I'm sorry, maybe I don't read enough about crypto--what is an airdrop coin?

An Airdrop is a free giveaway of premined coins. Which makes me wonder – did the term "airdrop" come to life to circumvent the "no giveaways" rule?

The no giveaway rule is specific to this forum. Cryptocurrencies are bigger than this forum.
The term air-drop probably came from the equivalent of banks printing more money and 'air dropping' them into the economy.
1535  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Any new airdrop coins? on: April 16, 2016, 09:55:27 AM
I'm sorry, maybe I don't read enough about crypto--what is an airdrop coin?

It actually means that once the coin is dropped on Bitcointalk, money is being generated out of air.

~CfA~
Not trying to be dense:  Is that what it really means?  I will say that I see a lot of coins for which that's exactly the case.

i was joking Wink

Check out Auroracoin for instance - a classic example of Airdrop.

~CfA~

Auroracoin is a classic example of why an airdrop won't work.  Grin
There have been plans of air dropping even small amounts of bitcoins (in Dominica) to increase bitcoin adoption.
1536  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Premier League Prediction Thread (EPL) on: April 16, 2016, 09:46:33 AM
my bet on premier League:

Newcaste-Swansea 1
Manc. United-Aston villa  1+over 1,5
Everton-Southampton under 2,5 goals
Chelsea-Manc.city over 2,5 goals
Norwich-Sunderland over 1,5 goals
west brow-watford over 1,5 goals

What were the odds you got for Norwich Sunderland over 1.5 goals?
Both teams are near the bottom and are not prolific goal scorers....

Can you give us some statistics?
Were you involved in the launch of some previous coins or are you just starting off?
1538  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: How do you know about newest coin? on: April 15, 2016, 10:53:07 PM
There are multiple ways to get to know about new coins, including this forum.
The tough part is analyzing and evaluating each alt, to decide which one is good.

Securities Blockchain Will Have Limited Cost Savings – Ripple MD

Financial institutions have invested significantly in the development of Blockchain technology. However, the Asia Pacific MD of Ripple feels that cost savings are not expected to be significant in the securities market.

Dilip Rao at the 2016 AFR Banking & Wealth Summit says:

“Where blockchain has had the most impact is where there are a number of networks, but they don't talk to each other very well. There is no obvious trust between these networks, a central authority.”

1540  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Japan Considers Regulating Bitcoin as Currency on: April 14, 2016, 11:20:48 AM
For all we know Satoshi Nakamoto may be an alias. There is no guarantee he/she is Japanese. I think I have read somewhere that they did a research on the writing style and allegedly based on the type of words used it was concluded that Satoshi may be a British citizen. I don't know what to believe any more.

It definitely is an alias. Whether it is an alias for somebody who is Japanese or not, we do not know.
I don't think the nationality of Satoshi matters in any case.
