1581  Economy / Exchanges / Re: mtgox.com has blocked my account with 45 000 USD in it! on: February 26, 2011, 05:51:01 PM
Let's just wait for Mtgox to resolve this issue.

Making this thread 99 pages-long really doesn't help at all, nobody will read all of it anyway.
Useless speculation without having enough information to conclude anything is only making things more complicated for everyone.
1582  Economy / Exchanges / Re: mtgox.com has blocked my account with 45 000 USD in it! on: February 26, 2011, 02:37:30 PM
Baron.  Created February 21.    Posts only in this thread.
BCEmporium.  Created February 22.    Posts only in this thread.

Actually it is incorrect.

Baron:
    February 17, 2011, 08:24 am
BCEmporium:
    February 22, 2011, 02:10 pm

And not all of BCEmporium posts are in this thread, but most of them.
Still, this is a little suspicious.
1583  Economy / Exchanges / Re: mtgox.com has blocked my account with 45 000 USD in it! on: February 26, 2011, 12:21:44 PM
There is a process to handle disagreements with paypal. You do a chargeback via your bank/cc if it does not help you file small claim with the bank/cc company and paypal as defendants and see how quickly they fold. Which, they will as soon as they see that you are not bluffing.

That's theory.
And theory != Practice.

The practice says: Paypal is one huge semi-banking scam, don't use it.
1584  Economy / Exchanges / Re: mtgox.com has blocked my account with 45 000 USD in it! on: February 26, 2011, 11:06:49 AM
Just because I don't like what you're doing doesn't make it wrong, and it doesn't mean I can suddenly take your money.

We don't get to decide for ourselves what is right and wrong, nor do we get to rain our own justice down on others arbitrarily.  There has to be an agreed-to process to handle disagreements.

Could someone please explain that to PayPal?   They've done EXACTLY that, to me... TWICE.

Their email simply said, "There is no appeal."

Fuck paypal (in eye, because other places may be pleasant), paypal is an evil bitch.

1585  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin crashing! Sell now! on: February 26, 2011, 08:21:44 AM
This topic should be marked [JOKE] and closed.

What is it useful for anyway ? Increasing post counts ?
1586  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin crashing! Sell now! on: February 25, 2011, 05:57:29 PM
I just checked MtGox or something yeah and the price has fallen though the floor, don't waste time checking irrelevant facts just sell immediately maybe there's still time to recover some of your money!

(image)

Get rid of them quickly turns out the whole thing was an elaborate magic-bean pyramid scheme scam! Sell quickly before the rush!

OK, so you want to buy a lot of BTC very cheaply ? Grin

PS.
Yeah, i agree that was lame.

I don't find this amusing at all.  Starting threads with misleading subjects is not a way to build credibility in the Bitcoin community.

I certainly won't trust him after this, i wonder if anybody does.
1587  Economy / Exchanges / Re: mtgox.com has blocked my account with 45 000 USD in it! on: February 25, 2011, 09:49:14 AM
I'm still not sure that it wouldn't be better to have a bitcoin exchange that was a bitcoin exchange, rather than a bitcoin exchange plus court system, and police.  I thought the whole point of bitcoin was to have a digital virtual commodity that could be traded as an actual good, no pawn shop could ever get away with taking my gold and saying to the cops "oh well, I have good reason to think it was stolen, but I can't explain why right now"

MTGox's exchange is not the only exchange out there.
What he is doing with it is his personal buisness.
1588  Economy / Exchanges / Re: mtgox.com has blocked my account with 45 000 USD in it! on: February 24, 2011, 07:14:28 PM
I offered to mtgox.com solution, I will send him those 3000 USD , and he will unblock my account.
Curently I don't received confirmation from mtgox.com that he is accepting with this solution.

sincerely I don't understand what is going on.

Also Now he is asking me that I send him passport scan.
Try bribing with more money.

Freezing funds certainly isn't nice, but Baron is far from innocent.
I would never offer to give anybody a cent if i haven't done anything wrong.

Sociotechnics FAIL.
1589  Economy / Exchanges / Re: mtgox.com has blocked my account with 45 000 USD in it! on: February 24, 2011, 02:15:47 PM
Policing transactions would never work without further proof of theft.
Let's say an individual with a high reputation, here and on other exchange websites, decides to make a trade for 10,000 BC with a newcomer. Later, for whatever reason, he decides he wants his coins back, even though both parties made good on their side of the deal. He decides to call this transaction stolen to the forum and friends, and tells everyone to watch for the transaction. The legitimate receiver of the coins, goes to the exchange to get his money, only to find out his funds are BLOCKED, because the person with the higher reputation is claiming they're stolen.

We'll be having scams on both side of the board, and just because someone is more well-known only makes it easier for them to scam someone and gain the trust of the peers with their argument. You CAN'T begin to play judge here, or you're going to run into a very slippery slope, with anyone crying "Witch" whenever they want their money back.

These might be special circumstances, and of course special circumstances in the future, but this can't become the way to deal with things.

+ 1

Freezing funds is probably not a good way to deal with something like this.
I would go mad if somebody did that to me.

1590  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Bounty for Bitcoin Animated Movie [13622.05 BTC ($2520) and growing] on: February 23, 2011, 09:21:13 AM
I'll definitely donate (possibly even get a one-shot Knighthood) to John and Adam, should I get the bounty... One major tripping point:

How "animated" does it have to be?

I think that "Money as debt" style should satisfy everybody.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vVkFb26u9g8

However as it was said already by theymos, the video should be very explanatory about how exactly the protocol works in such a way that not-geeky people can actually understand the basic concept.
1591  Economy / Exchanges / Re: mtgox.com has blocked my account with 45 000 USD in it! on: February 23, 2011, 08:51:59 AM
I'm very interested to see how this turns out.

Mtgox respond, over.
1592  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [POLL] Should we ban something on the Bitcoin marketplace? on: February 23, 2011, 08:45:20 AM
You yelled at me and attempted to boss me around. Now you say you have no idea? Did you just forget that or what?

You consistently fail to answer the questions I put to you, yet I don't yell or get bossy about that failing.

This all stems from the fact that you can't accept the truth about the owners of the government directing the police against alternate currencies. Perhaps some lessons on critical thinking are overdue?

Yeah, whatever.
1593  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [POLL] Should we ban something on the Bitcoin marketplace? on: February 22, 2011, 09:46:41 PM
I will simply stop discussing with you, because i don't have a habit of discussion with mad people.
Really ?  Cheesy

Well, i should watch my words Tongue
However he is way more mad than you are. For once, it is possible to reason with you.
1594  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [POLL] Should we ban something on the Bitcoin marketplace? on: February 22, 2011, 09:28:53 PM
You win the wishy washy word-wanking award.

Again, you are the one who said "In principle I don't advocate banning anything, however...". Explain how this does not show that you are willing to compromise your principles?

That's precisely why I never vote in these polls.

For BitterTea to declare that I did vote is annoying however.

Show me where the fuck I said that you did. I love that you keep calling me out for putting words in your mouth when you are the one doing exactly that.

You better stop discussing with him, that man is a lost case.
1595  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [POLL] Should we ban something on the Bitcoin marketplace? on: February 22, 2011, 09:24:01 PM
...
Anyway, it's nanaimogold that should answer the question. You don't have to.

And you SHOULD NOT attempt to tell me what to do. I am not your fucking secretary.

Jesus, where did all that aggression come from ?
Did i offend you in any way, did I rape your daughter or kill your little kitten ? I mean WTF dude, i just asked a question politely.

I think you just lost a possible customer.

Back in the old days people had to travel to libraries and wait for information to come by mail. You can JUST GOOGLE IT.
(...)
Do YOUR OWN HOMEWORK.

If i wanted to google it, i would just google it.

I didn't want to google it, because i wanted to hear it from you.
It was kind of "what did you mean by this exactly" question.

> I think you just lost a possible customer.

Oh, that's just so typical of the TV audience. You actually believe that's your decision to make.

Consumerist clowns like you need a case study. Ever heard of ING bank? It's popular in places where men are mostly responsible for their actions, where the population is not all soy addled followers of fashion. Anyway, they annually identify the 10% or so of their account holders who cost them the most in support issues and just FIRE THEM.

Sorry, you are too stupid to bank here. Go cost our competition. Thanks!

That concept is just so foreign to you isn't it? The idea that a business would decline to service you - you just can't get you head around that can you?

Wah wah! I am the consumer - I am always right - it says so on my TV. You have to do as I tell you. I am the consumer wah wah!

These are not the people I do business with. Frankly, they have no business to do anyway.

1. I have no idea WTF are you talking about and why the hell you keep attacking me without reason. I don't know, "IS THIS SPARTAAA" or something ?
2. For the record, i haven't watched TV (that includes internet TV) in about 4 years, because I noticed how endlessly manipulative medium it is...

I will simply stop discussing with you, because i don't have a habit of discussion with mad people.
1596  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: bubble imminent on: February 22, 2011, 09:05:18 AM
Dollar/Euro has value ONLY because government says so.
Bitcoin/gold/silver etc have value, because people believe so.

That is nothing like fiat.

No. US government can claim anything about US dollar in the USA. They can force you to anything. But abroad, US dollar is valuable because there is an economy that supports it and indeed people believe it's valuable.

No. You are missing what is cause and what is effect here.

People believe that dollar is valuable, because other people believe that it is valuable, because other people in the past believed that it is valuable, because in the past, government said so.

So the chain is belief/psychology <= belief (now) <= belief (past) <= government says so (past).
It all holds on the government's statement that it is valuable from the past. If we remove that from the equation, whole thing falls down like a house of cards.

Fiat currencies are "legal tender" bullshit. Bitcoin is not.
1597  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: bubble imminent on: February 22, 2011, 08:47:33 AM
I'm sorry but bitcoin has zero intrinsic value. Just like fiat.

Dollar/Euro has value ONLY because government says so.
Bitcoin/gold/silver etc have value, because people believe so.

That is nothing like fiat.
1598  Economy / Economics / Re: Sniff ... do you smell smoke? on: February 22, 2011, 08:29:39 AM
Wouldn't they do better to hold oil futures?

edit: and can't they buy those with any major currency?

Yes, and basicly everyone does this to some degree, but there remains a limit as to how well hedged any single nation can really be because ultimately the contracts have to be settled in US currency per international treaties.  This is a *major* part of the artificial demand that supports the value of the US dollar, but this will not ultimately prevent the US dollar from collapse.

Well, i hope it collapses soon.
The quicker it fails, the better it is for everyone (especially Bitcoiners Tongue).
1599  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: bubble imminent on: February 22, 2011, 07:53:01 AM

Pop?

Something's up on bitcoin central.

At what volume is this exactly ?
The charts at Bitcoin-central are not very precise.

OK, i found better ones:
http://bitcoincharts.com/markets/

Volume = ~1121
1600  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [POLL] Should we ban something on the Bitcoin marketplace? on: February 22, 2011, 01:14:40 AM
Sorry, but you are still wrong.
Yet you keep shifting/changing the actual topic so that it seems that you are partially right, but that is not correct. You are completely wrong at all points.

Investions in BTC follow this scheme.

No, they do not. If they would, you would be likely to lose everything once you invest (big investment risk).
And in Bitcoin/bullion evertybody is winning.

Also, you forget to mention that everyone could lose everything (if he keeps BTC).

Incorrect. The only way in which everybody will lose everything is if Bitcoin gets destroyed/shut down.
Still, that is in no way similiar to Ponzi scheme, because in Ponzi scheme few people always win.

Early adopters will lose less than those coming late as they will have invested less.

Doesn't matter. Still no resemblance to Ponzi scheme. In Ponzi scheme, few win, rest lose. In the situation you are describing, few lose small money, the rest loses bigger money.
No similarity. In investments or whatsoever.

Also, we just derailed the thread.

It doesn't seem as if anoyone cared about that on this forum.
90% of threads gets derailed.
