@MrFarm: If we can make spreadcoin the most principled coin ever, where decentralization (and nothing else) is the main driver for development and community, then everything else you talk about will come naturally.

Maybe.

I personally like creating my own luck, but that's just me.

Yes, but not by breaking your principles, right?

I don't even count ripple as a cryptocurrency, they just make up the value of their coin, and the amount of coinsupply can change from day to day. This is wallstreet/FED all over again.
Do they make money like hell? Sure... but who pays the bill?

Also, additional developers for spreadcoin will be found for sure, and Mr.Spread is already well invested in his own coin and will enjoy financial freedom should the value rise.
So no need for ridiculously centralized maneuvers like implementing a developer fund in the protocol.

1642  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][SPR] SpreadCoin | True Decentralization (No Pools) on: January 11, 2015, 04:11:27 AM
I like the excitement and enthusiasm of people in this thread.

On the other hand I have been in a few coins where the community got too involved and things turned south.

I say let Mr. Spread continue as is. If people really have some good ideas you should be pm'ing Mr. Spread and if at that point it is a joint agreement then let it be posted in the thread.

Only saying this because we have no idea what all the future plans to this coin is or what or who Mr. Spread might be working on/with in the background. I just don't want to see a community becoming devided because someone might have an idea that others might like or not and then it just two different sides on the coin.

Again just my opinion but this rise has been slow and steady. We only have a few more weeks until the MN implementation if all is still on course. Let's wait and see how that goes a s planned.

Exactly...
This coin is young, even younger than darkcoin.
Mr.Spread has already proven that he knows what he does. Why rush things? But I am guilty of that too, I have so many ideas about "decentralization" that I am maybe overwhelming the thread here a little bit.
But it is so much fun, that I am not gonna stop, lol, because I feel like I am taking part in some important part of history regarding cryptocurrencies.
Suddenly a coin emerges where principles are more important than the usual greed for money.

@MrFarm: If we can make spreadcoin the most principled coin ever, where decentralization (and nothing else) is the main driver for development and community, then everything else you talk about will come naturally.

mining and "unpaid balance" is not moving for hours ?!

something broken, or am i just too stupid to understand eligius stats ?

I'll advice you to just read this thread from start to finish, and you will see that people ask the same questions over and over again.

Nothing is broken.
1644  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][SPR] SpreadCoin | True Decentralization (No Pools) on: January 10, 2015, 03:32:16 PM
The support after each pump is still stronger than the small sells day traders are making. Every time more than a couple btc are bought in 24 hours it remains stable despite what all the sells may look like. Look at the top addresses. Those are constantly the same. Only miners and day traders looking for a quick buck are selling.

...where can I find this "rich list" you are talking about?

EDIT: Nevermind, I found it: http://www.multifaucet.tk/index.php?blockexplorer=SPR&top_addresses=100
1645  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][SPR] SpreadCoin | True Decentralization (No Pools) on: January 10, 2015, 03:13:53 PM
Very good idea!

5,000,000 SPR % 5000 MN's is 1000 SPR per MN.

Obviously not all 5 million coins will be in MN's so it would be less than 1000SPR at all times, making it more fair than darkcoin.

Wonderful example.
And add to that the price spread that we will always see in the cost of running a masternode and we are even fairer.
(Not all masternodes will cost the same)
1646  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][SPR] SpreadCoin | True Decentralization (No Pools) on: January 10, 2015, 02:54:12 PM
Mr.Spread?

I have an idea regarding the maximum amount of Masternodes possible.

Maybe it should not be a fixed number, but derived by a simple formula:

Available Coins / 1000, rounded down to a whole number.

So for example in this moment the network has 1,540,231 SPR, meaning it would allow for 1540 MNs, but not more.

So this number will slowly grow by one, pretty much every day, but very consistent, helping us reinforce our argument that NEWCOMERS ARE ALWAYS WELCOME here in spreadonia, while still allowing the desired competition among the MNs.

In the year 2100 we will have 20000 MNs, this will be the maximum that will ever be possible.

What do you think?

This way you are not forced to pull an arbitrary number out of your nose, but can instead let the protocol decide and adjust automatically.

It would only be in the interest of decentralization to do it something like that, instead of having one guy decide something for everybody else.

whale's gonna whale.  Smiley

The 500 BTC he specified is going to be provided by all the sheeple who believe him, who will buy in anticipation of a free ride.

Don't listen to the siren call, especially when it's coming from a whale!

It's a trap!
1648  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][SPR] SpreadCoin | True Decentralization (No Pools) on: January 10, 2015, 12:36:34 PM
But look at the volume, it is rather low, like 5% of the recent buying spree.... so what you see now can't be considered dumping at all.
It's just the usual low volume noise...

It also gave me an impression that there is a sneaky selling going on but you are right that it cannot be called dumping yet. But I must say the recent sneaky selling in Spreadcoin corresponds to the recent buyings in Darkcoin. I guess some Darkcoiners are stocking up DRK before the expected price rise in celebration of 1 year anniversary of Darkcoin. Only time will show thou.

Name any other coin, or corporation, or asset or whatever where an anniversary served as justification for a price spike???  Huh
I understand the happiness and anticipation regarding the coming festivities, but is everything expected to be a market mover? This is silly.
1649  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][SPR] SpreadCoin | True Decentralization (No Pools) on: January 10, 2015, 12:20:30 PM
Why all the Darkcoiners started gradually selling Spreadcoin and buying Darkcoin in last couple of days? Are they hoping for some major price increase for the 1 year anniversary of Darkcoin? I woke up to find yet again around 5k SPR dumped just this morning  Angry Angry Angry

But look at the volume, it is rather low, like 5% of the recent buying spree.... so what you see now can't be considered dumping at all.
It's just the usual low volume noise...

Time news...  Grin

The year 2015 will have a second longer, reported the International Service Rotation Earth and Reference Service (IERS) on Monday (5). Although adding no more than a glance, how some digital services to receive can cause widespread interference around the internet.
The second longer occur at the turn of the 30th of June to 1 July. When the clock register 23h59m59s, the pointer does not automatically switch to 00 the next day. The increase has occurred in other years. Results from a mismatch between the universal system of time measurement and time records made by atomic clocks.
As time measured by Coordinated Universal Time (UTC, its acronym in English) delays due to a slowdown in the movement of Earth's rotation, atomic clocks not suffer from it. Continue counting the seconds usually. To reach a balance from time to time, the IERS announces additional seconds. Since 1972 there have been 25.
In practice, the clocks have to read a Second Additional, the 23h59m60s, which will give the June 30 a total of 86401/2. It may seem little, but in 2012, last time an addition was made, the internet world has suffered a wave of instability. The problems occurred with Mozilla, Reddit, Foursquare, Yelp, LinkedIn, the Linux operating system and applications running on Java.
The failure may occur because many computer systems, including computers, laptops, smartphones and the like, use the Network Time Protocol (NTP), which records the time and is aligned with atomic clocks. Most, however, are not prepared to deal with an extra second.
The same problem occurred with Google in 2005, when an extra second was added. The company's systems were not prepared. Some of them "refused" to work while had a "wrong" measurement time. The problem was identified in 2008 by engineers, who began working on a way to dribble it. The solution was to implement an internal change in the NTP. Milliseconds are added to time throughout the day that will have a second longer. So when the time comes, the second has been added naturally.  Wink
The addition of seconds is subject to international discussions. The United States wants to end the extras. They argue that the correction hinders navigation and communication systems, and can disrupt financial transactions that require an accurate record of time. But the UK is defender of extra seconds. The argument is that the exclusion could create a disturbance in the concept of time, and that would mean "dissolve" the system of time zones adopted from the Greenwich Meridian.

Can we please finally switch to some galactic stardate or something, detached from earths orbit and the birth of jesus (lol), and just start counting from Zero (bigbang = 0),
I've had enough of those §"*ç)(/&"ç manipulating our measure of time all the time...
1651  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][SPR] SpreadCoin | True Decentralization (No Pools) on: January 10, 2015, 11:53:58 AM
what's wrong with coinmarketcap today?
A lot of questionmarks showing up everywhere...

1652  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][SPR] SpreadCoin | True Decentralization (No Pools) on: January 10, 2015, 06:20:35 AM
My VPS has 2 ip's. Does that mean I can configure my Spreadcoin wallet to use a different ip, thus having 2 masternodes?

I know how to make the wallet use a different datadir, so now I just need to know how to change the ip.

Ofcourse.
You could probably even do that on the same IP by using two different ports and two daemons/on different datadirs.
(you need two because the files will be locked)

Wait, what do you mean, change the ip? Your hoster most certainly doesn't allow you to change the ip.

I don't know if this is still happening but there is still spots left! Quick, get in before it's too late! Smiley

http://www.reddit.com/r/CryptoCurrency/comments/2knolx/spreadcoin_giveaway/

Nice gesture.
I see our own subreddit is not very active, this will have to change. http://www.reddit.com/r/Spreadcoin/

Maybe we should install a tipbot there?
1654  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][SPR] SpreadCoin | True Decentralization (No Pools) on: January 09, 2015, 11:27:33 AM
Er, there's an egg involved too ....

SShhhhh! Don't spoil the whole story yet Wink
1655  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][SPR] SpreadCoin | True Decentralization (No Pools) on: January 09, 2015, 11:11:58 AM
Let's just allow the freedom of artistic expression do its work. Spreadcoiners are not Al Qaeda to worry about cartoons or satire Wink

Right on! I appreciate it!

@litcoincollector: please show us more of your spreadman character, I've seen you post a few interesting comic characters in this thread...
As I said, I am in favour of competition. It is the lifeblood of the free market, fellow artist!

It is what defines probably not only this coin but also this community.  Smiley (darkcoin community visavis spreadcoin community)
1656  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][SPR] SpreadCoin | True Decentralization (No Pools) on: January 09, 2015, 11:08:34 AM
Well, you can never please everybody. And especially the competition will always be pissed.  Grin
That's what I truly like about this coin, wherever I look I see competition but also encouragement.

This is going to be awesome!
1657  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][SPR] SpreadCoin | True Decentralization (No Pools) on: January 09, 2015, 10:52:54 AM
I am not complaining, I just don't like the idea and even more I think it can damage the Spreadcoin identity.
I am expressing my concersn and want to know how other community members feel about this.

You know that everyone of us started as a sperm once? That's how we spread as a species.  Huh
We don't have to use this word (sperm) if it troubles you, I was never going to use that word anyway.... but wait to see a few experiments I am about to do. And then judge!
I'm surprised you dismiss it so early, we haven't done anything yet, lol.
It's experimental and inofficial. No worries man, no worries.
1658  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][SPR] SpreadCoin | True Decentralization (No Pools) on: January 09, 2015, 10:32:06 AM
I have an idea for a meme! A stock floor covered in mini SPR spermmen all screaming to buy their "share" in the MN list.

Brilliant. I thought about SPR spermmen and have a few related memes in preparation. I promise you will laugh your ass off.
I will use those spermmen (half a SPR logo, 1 logo = 2 sperm men) to show how they spread around, how they solo mine (and show how "perverted" it is when bitcoin pool mines), how they become masternodes, etc...
This is going to be so much fun.

Awesome! I can't wait! I will spread some love once you've posted

Currently and for the next few days I am working on darkcoin related cartoons for the upcoming 1 year anniversary of darkcoin.
When this is finished, I will concentrate more on spreadcoin cartoons for a while. ;-)

Well guys, I like your enthusiasm and imput in SpreadCoin.
But... In my opinion this is a bad idea. It doesn't do the logo and Spreadcoin in general justice.
It is not the image that we must create for SpreadCoin.

Meme: good
Sperm men: bad

Anyone else have an opinion on the matter?

No need to worry, we were just thinking out loud here, and you have seen nothing yet, so why complain. "sperm men" is just something defunctec came up with on the fly..., probably inspired by my cartoonifyed logo ;-)
1659  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][SPR] SpreadCoin | True Decentralization (No Pools) on: January 09, 2015, 05:41:55 AM
It seems some Darkcoiners are upset that we're badmouthing them.  I haven't seen it in this thread, but I have pretty thick skin and sometimes miss such things.  If you have been, please stop, there's no need to and doesn't help the cause.  This of course doesn't mean you can't discuss what you feel Darkcoin is doing wrong or SPR can do better/different.

Examples:

"Darkcoin is a shitcoin" - Bad
"Darkcoiners are idiots" - Bad
"Due to reference nodes, Darkcoin is centralized.  Spreadcoin can improve upon that."  - Good
"MyFarm is one sexy bitch" - Good

I haven't seen this personally.

Me neither, I just checked the last few pages, and the only "out of line" I saw (although I find it harmless) came from:

You're nuts. Grin

Now you guys are being daft. This is silly.

Grin

I think we are "flying over the target" as they say...
1660  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][SPR] SpreadCoin | True Decentralization (No Pools) on: January 09, 2015, 03:38:28 AM
So any idea about how much coins per MN? Just a guesstimate.

This is the thing... No one knows....

ooooOOOOOooooo

Only satoshi knows.... aaaAAAAAAAAaaaaaa!
