Apologies - I had to disconnect everyone from the mining server. I have collected some data to analyse to figure out what the problem is.

Not sure if it is related to namecoind going crazy. For the last couple days all the namecoind nodes I have are very frequently running at 100% CPU usage and becoming unresponsive. Anyone else running namecoind seeing the same?

No problem Wink Keep the good work !

Around 4 AM server time, everyone got disconnected. Everything went back to normal after like 10-20 mins.

19:00 server time, stats went nuts again !

BTW, i'm not complaining, just giving you a time frame so it's easier to debug.

Thanks ! Smiley

Another crash after that, everyone been DC.

My internet provider is down so are my miners ... way worst then long block ! (i guess i need a backup internet now

not just from doc, but from other users in setting up the usb miners.

Yeah, we have a lot of awesome helpful people both here and in the IRC chat (I just wish people would wait more than 1 minute for an answer before leaving IRC Wink )

I don't event know we had an IRC channel ! What's the server group and channel ? thanks !

thanks all ,well will see how it all goes over the next couple of weeks, i plan on getting more hardware as cash becomes available

Antminer S3 are really good toys. They have some problem with a DC/DC component tho. Some unit will only run to the default spec 441 GH/S but if you're lucky you can get one that can be OC to 504 GH/S.

I got two units, one is a "lucky" unit. The other one not ^_^
1768  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Announcement: Bitmain launches AntMiner solution, 0.68 J/GH on chip on: July 29, 2014, 04:28:49 PM
Shutting down the s1 is not a good idea if it can still mine coins at lower cost than electricity as the only constant is increasing difficulty.

Basically it depreciates at every difficulty jump.  So mine it now before it is obsolete

Or do what I plan.

My son goes back to college in a couple of weeks and has FREE electric in his dorm. I'm packing 2 S1's and a 850W PSU for him to take to school and run for me. If he can get anyone on his floor to agree, I'll bring 2 more S1's when I go to visit him.

HAHAHAHAHHA EPICCCCCCCCCCCCCCCC !!! Cheesy
1769  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: BITMAIN Antminer S3 support and OverClocking thread on: July 27, 2014, 10:18:41 PM
For the record, cleaning seems to have fixed my unit. It overclocks to 237.5 Mhz comfortably now whereas it would not OC previously and many times would fail to run at all.

Thanks for the info ! Smiley
1770  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: BITMAIN Antminer S3 support and OverClocking thread on: July 26, 2014, 01:02:23 AM
Which one of these PSU(800 to 850 W) will you buy? As im not going to OC because im fine with default GH/s and temperature and Power consume, with 800 or 850 W better, i can power up 2 S3.

So here are the possible ones:

http://www.pccomponentes.com/fuentes_alimentacion/800w/850w/

Just has to be less than 100 Eur. i know there are very good PSU and they cost more than 100 Eur but i dont want to spend that much if they just work fine.

thanks!

I use a Corsair RM1000 pulling 750 Watt from it (one OC and one Stuck) a bit overkill, but it's running at about 75% capacity which is save and easy for him.

ok guys hehe. i will have to consider then spending a little more just to run them safe Smiley

Thy are cheaper solution like the dell power supply but consider that they are really loud. So for home it might be a bad idea ;-) (like girlfriend going mad)

ChrisTheGoth

You keep reminding us you are an engineer but keep saying things that make no sense.  Huh

Please do the research/reading before posting things that are not correct or worst laughably absurd.

That post where you suggest the doc should obtain "easy" blocks instead of the "hard" ones for example does not sound like
someone with an engineering degree that has been mining for 8 months. There is no ACME brand of
soft chewy blocks. Hashing is not a card game where if you have seen three aces there is only 1 left.

Random is Random. (Im not going to debate which source of random algorithm should be used, thats best left for compiler theory, Don Keene and the NSA to argue over).

little pool vs big pool is do you want 1% of 1,000 or .001% of 1,000,000?

If you don't know, ask a question like "Why are the blocks taking longer to solve?" or "Can we pick easy vs hard blocks?"

or even better look back through the old posts. where these questions have been asked and answered over and over again.

Mining is now at the stage where all the easy gold laying on the ground has been claimed. Only people willing to
invest time/money and/or have the patience to stick it out should be involved.

Amen

Release B4  Grin

they are likely using the last few days to ensure happy B1-B3 customers. By the end of the week almost every order should be shipped and they can offer 48-hr shipping on B4 onwards.

also, they probably need a few days to redesign the miner to achieve 500GH if its possible.

500GH Would be devine. Hopefully BITMAIN can do it.

They told me they won't redesign it (I asked more info the DC/DC component).

I got one unit that run at 250 mhz at ~503 GH/s (0.001% error rate)
The other one, running at stock at ~434 gh/s (Any OC kill the performance)
1774  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S3 Discussion and Support Thread. on: July 22, 2014, 12:41:27 PM
4 units (batch 1, first ~15min) arrived today and setup was a breeze.

gorgeous case, makes it feel like a solid consumer-grade product compared to the S1.

miner 1: 237.5MHz     477GH    (2.5hrs)
miner 2: 225MHz        417GH    (2hrs)
miner 3: 225MHz        450GH    (2hrs)
miner 2: 225MHz        413GH    (2hrs)

so far overclocking is a total grab-bag. looks like 2 of the miners lose hashrate at even a slight overclock, and the other has negligible improvement over stock. miner 1 will go for 250mhz tomorrow

I havent seen the invoice yet, but presumably it was about $400 CAD to import and receive all 4 miners.

$400?!?

I just spoke with UPS and they told me my shipment (qty 4) was going to be ~$109? That is, if they ever get here.

I wonder if the person I spoke with read it wrong - maybe $109 ea?

You pay only the TPS. 5% of declared value.
1775  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: BITMAIN Antminer S3 support and OverClocking thread on: July 22, 2014, 12:22:02 AM
I am currently running stable for the last two days at roughly 455GH/s at frequency 225. From frequency 218.75 (The stock my unit shipped with)

Temperature up by only a couple of degrees.
37 --> 39
38 --> 39

Fan RPM up by about 600
1260 --> 1800
1020 --> 1620

Well good news for you, i got one unit that do not handle any OC and the other one perfectly. (OC to 250 mhz at 503 GH/s)
1776  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S3 Discussion and Support Thread. on: July 22, 2014, 12:17:49 AM
Soooo after almost 4 days of uptime...

I got one S3 at 434 GH/S (do not handle any OC AT ALL and error rate is at 0.00136459441 %).

My second unit is at 503 GH/S (OC to 250 and error rate at 0.00154311841 %).

So one bad unit and one good unit. I wish I could fix the first one to be able to OC it too.

1777  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANN: BITMAIN has Tested Its 28nm Bitcoin Mining Chip BM1382 on: July 19, 2014, 11:44:07 AM
happy report after 1 day of mining  Grin

1st miner freq 237.5  avg  490 gh temp 45

2nd miner freq 250    avg  496 gh  temp 45

about 800 W on the wall  EVGA Super Nova  1500

Good numbers, you got the odd ones, lucky.
What was you earlier figures when you connected as new?
And how much was you declared shipment value?
yeah lucky

both was close to 448 Gh

declared shipment value  950 us

I'm half lucky, one of mine is handling 250 mhz perfectly the other one can't handle any OC. running stock perfectly tho (440 gh)
1778  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S3 Discussion and Support Thread. on: July 18, 2014, 05:54:23 PM
Two B1 orders for a total of 14 S3's and still no shipment info.  WTF?

Go to UPS.com, use Track by Reference and use your order number as reference.

Bitmaintech website is like updated 24 hours later (or more).
1779  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S3 Discussion and Support Thread. on: July 18, 2014, 05:47:41 AM
I got two miners, one looks like to handle both 237.5 and 250 quite well.

The other one ... not so much...

Looks like i got one of my two that handle 250 perfectly running 506gh/s

The other one, any OC is doing nothing positive. back to 218.75 ans running fine at 438gh

I might have a faulty pci-e cable... asking a replacement (corsair) One of the wire from the psu side connector was pulled off (didn't force the connector at all). There is two wire in the hole, i guess it's a ground. (no stripe on it) I pulled it back but who knows ...
