1841  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Ledger: get up to 30$ in free BTC. on: November 22, 2022, 09:15:38 AM
I expect that Ledger - no matter how you pay for your hardware wallet - receives fiat at the end of the day.
From this onwards, this 20-30$ is a rather overcomplicated cashback system, complicated by the fact another (financial) service will handle user data and those 20-30$ and give the users bitcoins.

The deal would not be that bad if Ledger would handle this, since most buy the wallets on their name / address anyway. And let's be honest, people don't care as much as they should on their privacy and KYC data, so even as it is now, many would see it a great opportunity. But, in reality, it's not. In reality, as said, there are great concerns on KYC and privacy plus Ledger's bad history on keeping KYC data secure makes everything even worse.
1842  Economy / Services / Re: Safe Hardware Wallet Deliveries Via Amazon Lockers on: November 22, 2022, 08:46:18 AM
Maybe you are talking about this incident that involved a Ledger Nano S that was purchased from Amazon in the UK. The person who bought it, got a paper card already filled up with a 24-word seed. Not sure if the seed was also entered in the hardware wallet, but I am guessing it was.

Yes, that's the one, thanks for finding it. The things are:
* I don't know exactly how such a locker works and whether OP cannot pick up the item, tamper it and then "post it" to another locker for the user (in my country the lockers belong to the shipping company and multiple sellers can use it). On the worse case OP can have a shop at Amazon and maybe he can get to use the locker. Of curse, it's a big hassle with small chances to catch somebody and steal his money.
* If the same problems like in that (Amazon UK) topic will happen, OP trust (which he may gain meanwhile) may vanish, even if it's not his doing

I see it a risky endeavor for both sides (yeah, trust is a bitch), but if OP gets customers for it, ... very nice and good luck.
1843  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: MY BITCOIN BUY INDICATORS on: November 22, 2022, 08:33:31 AM

Thank you for the detailed explanation. It makes more sense now.

real bitcoin dominance include only  :

I think that this list is wrong, from the very start. Half of those "coins" don't deserve to be there and a few others could be there.
But it doesn't actually matter. The whole metric of Bitcoin dominance is pointless (and as said, based on wrong premises).
1844  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Bitcointalk users owe me BTC on: November 22, 2022, 08:27:13 AM
but the "incident" is not really "completely" described in this thread. OP should post all relevant details and proof here.

Well, if one goes through those accounts' trust feedback will see OPs neutral feedbacks from 2018 related to the loans (and the related threads).
I agree that OP should have been putting more complete info, but it's already a lost cause, those accounts are inactive. So I can also understand that OP may not want to invest more time into this.
1845  Economy / Speculation / Re: Hacker of FTX dumping ETH for BTC on: November 21, 2022, 02:52:41 PM
Lol.  Whoever is in control of those coins is def laundering them.  We can't even be sure anymore if the news about the coins held by the Bahaminian government and the coins held by the hacker are the same thing.  It could all be smokes and mirrors at this point as there are some groups out there want to steal it for themselves.

What they could do is convert to renBTC, then to real BTC, deposit to lower tier exchanges and convert to XMR.  From there it could go anywhere.

Yep, this makes most sense for now. With the small note that they can easily stay on Bitcoin and mix the coins, so they don't risk another exchange; or maybe go to XMR after mixing.
1846  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Merkle Tree Has Any Cons? on: November 21, 2022, 02:34:39 PM
I just hear that users actually don't want Merkle tree for their transaction as proof, is it because that has privacy issues or what? Quiet confused by this.

As said, a Merkle tree is just a data structure with some hashes as "verification seals". https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Merkle_tree
So you can put any data in there and depending on what data you put there, it may be safe or not, or may pose privacy issues or not.

You should tell more exactly what you were trying to ask about since you've pretty much asked "if we put something in boxes is ok or not?".

I will continue. Bitcoin blockchain is also a Merkle tree. At a second read it has occurred to me that maybe that's what you're asking about. But that's one central point of Bitcoin being Bitcoin. And if the lack of privacy in Bitcoin is an issue, one can just use Monero if the mixers on Bitcoin chain are not "good enough" for them.
1847  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Trezor reports 300% revenue increase after FTX fiasco on: November 21, 2022, 01:03:15 PM
We already have a trillion articles on the Web promoting Shitcoins.  If only 5% of the articles covered a healthy Bitcoin education by hyping up self custody and putting fear under the idea of storing Bitcoin in Custodial Wallets or Centralized Exchanges, there may not be as many victims every Exchange hack.

Selling shitcoins is a good business. Not a honest one, clearly. It attracts, because people's greed is bigger than their brain and it pays (from the poor souls' money).
Promoting shitcoins... some many promoters are getting scammed, some few may get paid, but for every one disappointed and leaving the business, 10 others come filled with hopium.
Just look at the shitcoin bounties, no matter if they're targeting bitcointalk or the social media platforms.

On the other hand, honest businesses don't have unlimited money for advertising (although I would love to see Trezor signature campaigns here, for example) and since they don't have the possibility of doing scam-rinse-repeat cycles like the shitcoins, their visibility is limited.
On bitcointalk some try to tell the correct ways, but really, the vast majority don't care to read, just jump in for the promises the shitcoins bring.
1848  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: MY BITCOIN BUY INDICATORS on: November 21, 2022, 12:53:26 PM
I don't see the war as something that would drastically affect the price of bitcoin. War is just the Fed's excuse that war is to blame for inflation. Inflation was high even before the war

Inflation and unemployment gets people selling their coins instead of buying.
The energy war (don't forget that too) makes some miners get in difficulty because of the prices.
Recession can make also businesses sell (some or all of) their investments.

if you simply calculate the mining costs of the cheapest mining on the planet. you find this base number

If a mining facility works on solar power and got its ROI for both the panels (and related hardware) and miners, the costs would be insignificant.
Still, they will not sell under the price of electricity they could sell to the grid, I guess. So what's the minimum by your math? 0? Or the equivalent of 5 cents/kWh?
I don't think that they'll be willing to sell this low, no matter what.

So I see a contradiction/discrepancy between

if you simply calculate the mining costs of the cheapest mining on the planet. you find this base number

and

if no one can or wants to sell below a certain level on the entire planet. then thats the base/bottom.
1849  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Is The Gambling Industry Part Of The Domino Effect That Happens In The Market on: November 21, 2022, 12:39:13 PM
Well, with a casino the house always wins (sooner or later, more or less, not with everybody, those are details)
So a casino that's old enough and the owners were not so reckless and greedy to look for alternative sources of income (DeFi, FTT, name it) should be pretty solid still.

Keep in mind that after their initial investment got ROI, the costs are pretty much only the running and advertising costs, not that big compared with the income.
And for the rest of income and also the user funds the 1BTC=1BTC (or whatever coin was deposited) stands, hence I expect the crypto crash is not a huge problem.

As I just wrote in another post, proof of reserves can easily mean nothing. Plus gamblers should be different than traders; gamblers should really not keep unnecessarily money in the casino. There there's a bigger risk they gamble them away than the casino running away with those.
1850  Economy / Exchanges / Re: What does Proof of Reserves mean and... on: November 21, 2022, 12:27:12 PM
I think that some (see the so called mistakenly sent money to gate.io) are already trying to fake those "proofs".
Then, let's say certain service is showing a correct proof for its reserves; do you know how much is the actual worth of user funds deposited there so you can match?
Even more, what stops a centralized service use those reserves as collateral for other fund they'll get and use somewhere else, showing proof of reserves that aren't actually their funds any longer?

So this proof of reserves is a nice advertising some exchanges want to pull... and not much more.
Always think and get the public information with a pinch of salt. All they want is to keep you confident in their system. It doesn't mean that whoever wants cannot trick that. Learn that not your keys is indeed not your coins and be more careful, with or without that proof of reserves.
1851  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: MY BITCOIN BUY INDICATORS on: November 21, 2022, 12:17:30 PM
I start to DCA in BITCOIN again in  June 2022 under $21k. Previosly i was buying BTC under $1k.

In november with FTX colaps i start to DCA more seriosly into BTC.

Previosly in June I was planing to enter in BITCOIN with smaller % of my tota bankroll. But i decide to go big time.

For now i put 10% of planed capital in BTC (for this cycle), with average price under $17k . At prices under $17k I DCA daily.

My plan of investing:  I plan to push 50% of capital in BTC, when i see that most BITCOIN realistics indicators told me that bottom is in

50% of my buy indicators will be FED, inflation and recesion. So for additional 50% investment i will need to wait for intrest rates to reverse and to see official recesion.

Will i hit the bottom with my DCA? No! But I will be close to it

Of course I buy only BITCOIN now, becouse even ETH should bleed vs BTC. Time to buy altcoins will come in future.

All data i have are based on past statistic.

Interesting and informative. I find this post significantly more useful than the dry data/stats from the first one.
And starting the DCA at under 21k makes much more sense.

I will add that while your logic (as much as I understand it) looks consistent with the previous cycle, the war and the recession make be "modifiers" and I don't know how significant they can be/become. I don't know how good you took them into account, since afaik the worse case scenario can be 8k or at least under 10k (I hope we don't get there, still it may worth mentioning).
1852  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Never depend on cryptocurrency as your only source of income. on: November 21, 2022, 12:10:38 PM
but if you are very confident to manage yourselves in any market condition, that seems no problem at all.

Trading is risky. It clearly depends on skill too (although many just gamble it), still, bad days can happen and if your family's income depends only on that,... it can be sad.
Some some backup funds and also diversification are always a good idea.

While OP is correct in general (and I do agree with this rule), the world evolves and people start getting paid in crypto for their daily jobs. So no rule is absolute.
1853  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: MY BITCOIN BUY INDICATORS on: November 21, 2022, 11:42:14 AM
SO DEFENETLY A VALUE PRICE FOR ME TO START DCA in BITCOIN

So you will claim that it wasn't any under-20k price good for starting DCA? Interesting...
And how often you suggest buying while doing this DCA? Daily? Weekly? Or?

I cant post pictures yet on this forum. But  I will try to explain bitcoin indicators that i use

You can upload to imgur.com or postimages.org and post the links here. People will quote them and make them visible.

PS. It would be nice if you'd care to do a bit of spellcheck on what you're writing... Even the browsers offer such functionalities nowadays... I mean if you're careless with writing, why you wouldn't also be careless with your TA?
1854  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: 35% off Keystone Hardware Wallets Code on: November 21, 2022, 11:36:59 AM
Getting a better hardware wallet at pretty much the price of Nano S is a sweet offer (btw, it's ending in some 4.5h).

Unfortunately I see no resellers in EU and shipping and import taxes can become disappointing.
But yeah, the Americans should definitely go for it (and I agree with previous posts, at this offer I would really consider the Pro version).
1855  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Passphrase of Death (Bounty 4 BTC) on: November 21, 2022, 09:01:03 AM
Is there a chance that maybe you've deposited your coins in the past on addresses starting with 1 and now your (recovered?) wallet has addresses starting with bc1? (if you don't know, the year could be a clue)
Maybe it's not about the hidden feature, if you've never used it?

Edit: I strongly advise you ignore help offers in private messages, telegram and so on; your fat wallet may attract scammers, and not "only" for 4BTC
1856  Economy / Services / Re: Safe Hardware Wallet Deliveries Via Amazon Lockers on: November 21, 2022, 08:56:17 AM
but I would love to hear any feedback y'all might have

Since you are pretty much unknown, I expect trust issues: people will fear that - in a way or another - you may tamper those hardware wallets since you have physical access to them. Of course, re-packaging needs some extra care, but it's not that difficult.
People were advised all the time to avoid third party and order directly from the factory shop where possible (since even from Amazon it seems to have happened to receive HW with seed already in, I will look for link, but I don't promise results) and this may be a problem for your business.
1857  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: F1 Formula Sports Racing - Sportsbet.io promotions & discussion thread on: November 21, 2022, 07:42:42 AM
To me all was staged after what happened last week

That's correct.

Shame on Perez who didn't managed to get the second spot with the best car, tons of points away from Max.

Yep, but we have seen that Max is helping Checo only if that doesn't affect his own results. And, for a change, Ferrari had a proper strategy this time.

Verstapen its a shit of a person with a big EGO like most of the champions. LW its the same shit, no matter what they show.

Pretty good conclusion. And I will say something more: not helping your team mate? It has happened before. Getting a hard to beat record of race wins in a season... that will remain for a while; and for Max this was all that matters... unfortunately.

One year ago I was happy for him - he worked for too long and deserved a world title, no matter what Hamilton's fans say - but now.. I've been listening to Checo after the race, I've been listening to Charles, and when Max came I said f.u. and stopped TV.
1858  Economy / Reputation / Re: [FUN] Is DdmrDdmr even human? on: November 21, 2022, 07:31:16 AM
That brings up a good question.  Is it possible that bots actually are able to get vacations?

The question is not that good, sorry. In the same way they sleep while we're blinking, you will most probably won't notice a bot's vacation. They may have more vacations than humans and still be perceived as working 24/7.

1860  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Looking for a new self custody wallet on: November 20, 2022, 06:03:44 PM
TLDR;  I want to fully be self custody and at the same time contribute to layer 2 of BTC.  If you have a link on helping me achieve this with my own hardware please respond.

I would start with this:

Get a Raspberry Pi and set up Raspibolt or Raspiblitz.

and I would add a hardware wallet on top of this, but since you have a strong opinion like

Fuck Ledger, I want to rely on my own hardware... My own hardware I built with my own hands.

I will recommend either a/another computer (or USB stick with a Linux) that you would leave forever offline and use as cold storage, either a SeedSigner-like device.
