1921  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Booking a hotel with Expedia and paying with Bitcoin on: May 17, 2018, 04:07:38 PM
Aww dang that definitely sucks Sad I guess there isn't an equivalent in Europe to book travel accommodation with Bitcoin, right?
Especially looking to spend some of my Bitcoins on hotels and if possible also plane tickets.

You could try this - https://giftoff.com/gift-cards?filters%5Bsort%5D=alpha&filters%5Bcategory%5D=15&filters%5Bcountry%5D=241&page=1&showAll=true

Which has always been reliable for me, but I don't know what the deal is if you're not in the UK. Lastminute and Inspire will be the most comprehensive ones.

For flights you have more options like Destinia and a few others but I've never used any of them and often they miss out the budget carriers so you can pay insanely more for the same flight for the honour of it being in BTC.

That would have been super useful if they'd support Belgium. I might try buying a small value gift-card and set my country on Netherlands to see if it works.
Really sucks that they support The Netherlands but not Belgium Tongue

I'll see if I can find some other websites for gift cards, maybe they have one for Booking.com or something similar.
1922  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin to use 0.5% of world’s electricity by end of 2018 on: May 17, 2018, 04:02:58 PM
I'd actually be more interested in seeing how big of a part green energy is of those statistics...
I'd imagine it could be a lot cheaper to generate your own power with either solar or wind, especially for large-scale mining operations.

What's the problem with Bitcoin mining taking up so much power? Would this be an issue if the missing capacity was filled with additional renewable energy?

I really think that in some point in the future, we're really not going to be worrying about power anymore. Once we transition to highly efficient and environmentally-friendly renewables, power consumption might not even be an issue anymore. We're still pretty far off from that, but I do think we'll get there eventually. (If we don't destroy our planet first)
1923  Economy / Services / Re: ADSactly on: May 17, 2018, 01:53:53 PM
Thank you so much for the reply @adsactly, I will definitely go and have a chat on your Discord channel.
Seems like you're publishing quite a few quality articles on Steemit and I'm definitely interesting in learning more about your projects.

Really amazed at your quick response, thought you wouldn't check Bitcointalk anymore since this thread is so old Cheesy
1924  Economy / Services / Re: ADSactly on: May 16, 2018, 10:21:38 PM
Sorry for bringing this topic back from the graveyard, mods. I just have a question for OP, in case he's still active here.

I've joined your Discord group and have noticed that you guys are quite active on Steemit.
I was wondering how I could join your group? Should I just participate on the Discord?
1925  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Understanding Online Casino Bonuses on: May 16, 2018, 08:41:00 PM
I outright refuse to accept any bonuses that have any sort of rollover requirements.
I see it as false advertising and a sure way to eventually get addicted to gambling.

Sure, some people might eventually win something after they're very lucky, but in the meantime you're still gambling and probably not noticing that you're slowly getting addicted.

I would only play a bonus if there were no strings attached.
1926  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Satoshi nakamato needs to come out ! on: May 16, 2018, 08:22:10 PM
I don't really follow these kinds of stories anymore, it all end up to be bullshit anyway.
Or people get targeted and harassed, like Dorian. So unless something gets mentioned in all mainstream news channels at the same time, with credible explanation and sources, I'm not buying it.

I think it's pretty plausible that the real Satoshi is either dead or REALLY doesn't want to get his identity revealed.
Either way, I'm not waiting or looking for some big reveal.
1927  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Is worth buying coins under $1? on: May 15, 2018, 04:04:41 PM
The face value of a coin does not have a direct correlation with it's potential IMO. There are enough shitcoins that are worth more than 1 dollar per coin.
You'd just apply the same criteria as with other coins, look at the people behind the project.

Ask yourself if that particular coin has a reasonable development plan and goals. Try to find out what its potential demand will be. How many people would be using it?
1928  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Booking a hotel with Expedia and paying with Bitcoin on: May 15, 2018, 03:55:51 PM
I'll guess that it's US only like many other things.

Also it looks like Expedia accepts Bitcoin via Coinbase and Coinbase now makes merchants control their own private keys I think.

Even if they did accept BTC it's likely they'll abandon it because of that.

Aww dang that definitely sucks Sad I guess there isn't an equivalent in Europe to book travel accommodation with Bitcoin, right?

1929  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Simple Tips Keeping Your Bitcoin from Hackers. on: May 15, 2018, 03:49:03 PM
Uhm, those tips are clearly meant for people who are storing their coins on online wallets, since you're mentioning 2FA.
I would advise against giving away control of your Bitcoins to any company. It's always better to have your own secure wallet, one that gives you control over your private keys.

Two-factor Authentication isn't a perfect solution, it can also be broken in certain instances.
1930  Economy / Service Discussion / Booking a hotel with Expedia and paying with Bitcoin on: May 15, 2018, 10:48:25 AM
Has anyone here ever done this? I can't find the option when I try to book a hotel on expedia.com
It is mentioned on the website that it should be possible to pay using Bitcoin.

All I'm seeing is this:

Is this something that's only available in certain countries? I'm from Belgium and expedia.be doesn't even mention Bitcoin as one of the payment methods.
1931  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: I need your opinion and advice on: May 14, 2018, 01:31:34 PM
Weird that no-one has even mentioned this, the little bit of text that's on your website is really not written in a professional fashion.
It's clearly written by someone who does not have English as his/her native language.

Just some examples:

On the bottom of the home page:
Quote
Start collect cryptoartworks now.

Should be: Start collecting crypto artworks now! - or something similar, I'm not a professional writer myself Tongue

and

Quote
What’s the big deal?

These Cryptoartworks are not just your cryptopaintings, they are cryptocollectibles. And you can buy, sell, or trade your CryptoArtwork like they do at traditional auctions (but will you? This is your own Van Gogh!), and all the procedures are under the blockchain technology which will track ownership securely.

Just reads a bit weird, especially the "(but will you? This is your own Van Gogh!)" bit.
1932  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Real life event why Bitcoin/Litecoin is needed urgently on: May 14, 2018, 10:28:48 AM
Honestly, if I were you I would have just cut my losses, depending on how much money I'd already invested up to that point.
How much was the total price you had to pay for those 5 units? How much time have you spent in total? (rough estimate)

Looking at your timeline, it surely has to be a couple of days, so your earlier comparison to this being the equivalent to a full time job isn't too off.
1933  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Who do you think offers the best platform for Bitcoin Betting? on: May 14, 2018, 10:15:13 AM
I would always recommend Crypto-Games for a couple of different reasons:

- They support 10 different coins: Bitcoin - Litecoin - Monero - Ethereum - Dash - Peercoin - NEOgas - Stratis - Bcash - Dogecoin
- Withdraws are pretty much instant
- 7 games, all provably fair
- Lots of events and promotions in chat
- High faucet with possibility of leveling up
- Lightning fast support, both in chat or via mail
- Option to invest in site bankroll with all coins they offer - Great ROI
- NO FLASH - all games run pretty smooth
- Low house edge - On dice it's 0.8%

I've been playing there myself for a really long time now, never had any issues.
1934  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Hello crypto! Bye bye credits? on: May 14, 2018, 10:00:38 AM
With blockchain technology it is hard to imagine classical loans against property, but a couple of interesting crypto loan solutions have emerged in the mean time.

One is Salt (currently only available for US citizens), which offers fiat money loans (USD, EUR, and others) against bitcoin collateral.

The other is Ethlend, which offers ETH loans against other cryptocurrencies by utilizing smart contracts. Probably we are going to see more and more of these crypto loans in the near future.

Source: https://blockonomi.com/salt-vs-ethlend/

Salt and Ethlend are both far from the services Banks provide. I believe Banks are here to stay I know most people would not like to here this, crypto has a big role to play in the space in future but as long credits service is not crypo platform can meet this demands unless we want to be deceiving ourselves

Sure they're different because you still need collateral, even for loans that aren't even that big.
I wouldn't be surprised though if companies start offering loans without the need for collateral, maybe on a local level or something.

It's not like it hasn't been done before, but there's just too much fraud and defaults, when you're dealing with semi-anonymous people on the internet.

Payment received, thanks again!
1936  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: Overview of Universal Basic Income Crypto Coins [16 Projects Listed] on: May 11, 2018, 05:37:42 PM
I have seen it in your memo and it would be really helpful for me. Thanks for your help @eternalgloom , Cheers!

Looks like they're having some kind of backlog, none of my shares have been processed yet.
I think I'll have to ask on their Discord channel or something to get this sorted out.

As far is I know they're adding everybody manually.
1937  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Marketplace (Altcoins) / Re: Main information about the most popular exchanges! on: May 11, 2018, 03:17:11 PM
You should really add Bittrex as well, they're also one of the most popular exchanges out there.
Are you just listing exchanges that offer a lot of altcoins? Otherwise, you might also want to add some of the really big exchanges such as Coinbase and Bitfinex for example.
1938  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: LightningShop - Charity Project based on Lightning Network on: May 11, 2018, 02:52:42 PM
How are you able to sell those software licenses that cheap? It's something that seems very fishy to me.
I'd be worried that they'd be obtained through fraud or hacking...

Could you give out a little bit more information on that?
1939  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Banknotes Debut in Singapore on: May 11, 2018, 02:30:16 PM
I don't understand why people are so hyped about these banknotes. I would rather use a mobile wallet on my Android phone rather than carry such banknote with me all the time. I think that we should go straight to digital payments and ditch the old method of using coins and bills. What's difficult in scanning a QR code? NFC Bitcoin payments are just a matter of time. Creating banknotes is a waste of resources and most importantly - money.

It's just a novelty item that will probably fade away after a while. People are just hyped because it's something new Tongue
I also don't really see anything ground breaking here, they're just releasing small paper wallets in essence.

That said, I'd probably buy one, just as a collectors item, if I can get my hands on one of them.
1940  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Tools you use for In-Person BTC Buying on: May 11, 2018, 02:23:14 PM
Aside from just meeting in a public place, make sure you go somewhere where there are cameras.
If something does happen, you can always ask for the footage to be used as evidence.

I would also wait for one or two confirmations, but it could end up taking a pretty long time if you're unlucky.
