19228  Economy / Speculation / Re: Why BTC is losing value. on: September 06, 2011, 01:56:49 AM
And while the price has been falling these past months, the value of Bitcoin is much greater than it was a few months ago. It is maturing rapidly with new usefulness. Merchant solutions are finally now available. Casinos like Strike Sapphire have launched. Prediction markets like Bets of Bitcoin have launched. Massive retail offerings like BitcoinDeals are in testing. And there is much more going on than the people on the forums realize. Plus, we've now seen just how resilient Bitcoin is, surviving numerous scandals over the past few months. Even the perceived threat of new forked chains is proving totally unfounded. The Bitcoin ecosystem is being constantly bombarded with problems and inoculated against them. And STILL no significant bug or vulnerability of the Bitcoin protocol has been found.

+1

excellent post.

Bitcoin is GROWING. that's the bottom line.
19229  Economy / Speculation / Re: Why BTC is losing value. on: September 05, 2011, 11:50:37 PM

19231  Economy / Speculation / Re: Here we go again, another major price drop for bitcoins on: August 29, 2011, 07:33:57 PM
However, if after taking note of this ONE individual, he continues to flip heads, heads, heads, heads then you should start suspecting a duplicate sided coin, because this is statistically significant.

Yes! Cheesy The point is that so far there's no trader ever that has outperformed chance, that is, has been trading at a statistically significant level that cannot just be explained with being one out of all traders in existence.

If someone claims to be such a trader, and in addition claims to have a method behind it, that will result in an instant Nobel Prize.

i guess you never heard of the trading computer on wall street that buys low sells high ... a trade algorithm that make millions!
19232  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The Bitcoin Show is a Failure on: August 29, 2011, 07:27:10 PM
I think the show was fun to watch at times. there was some very interesting announcements made.

but i have to agree that it had the feel of an armature show at times.

and it really sucked to see Bruce all depressed after the mybitcoin thing. After that, he was Bashing bitcoins sometimes.

But hey if he makes another show ill be watching it and so will you Tongue

Its fun to watch him GO, UP UP UP, even tho it sometimes boarders on ridiculous.... makes it fun!

I think he can do better, if not someone else will.
19233  Economy / Speculation / Re: No, just the usual long, slow slide on: August 28, 2011, 05:06:46 PM

Now, 2 1/2 months of the long, slow slide.

Since the bubble popped in June, we've had 2 1/2 months of long, slow slide. The pattern is clear enough. There is no "crash". There is no "rally". There is just some noise on top of a long term drop of about 20% per month.

There's a lot of volatility because the market is thin relative to the number of Bitcoins outstanding. Any big trade can disrupt the market. But it comes back to the long, slow slide trend line each time.

Each time there's a drop, some recovery follows. Each peak, though. has been consistently lower than the previous one.  This is normal post-bubble behavior.

Many people here seem to be in denial about this.

lol bitcoin is a bubble! it poped 2 1/2 months ago!

get out while you still can SELL SELL SELL!

19237  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin store is moving merchandise! on: August 26, 2011, 11:02:58 PM

That is a big problem. When the exchange rate goes up my sales definitely increase. Right now the major slump seems to be due to the exchange rate.

Would it make sense to have sales when the value of the coin falls? You'll get to pick up more at the cheaper rate than most shops will. Eventually the expectation of sales when the value drops will keep people from worrying about the drops as much too.

not sure i get what your saying,
if the price goes up then their is more incentive to buy because your btc have more buying power.

19238  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: CRYPTO CURRENCY INDEX on: August 26, 2011, 10:56:30 PM
Hi, I have a similar list here:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=7500

But most of them are just proposals that probably won't be implemented.

another proposal, ValueCoin!
each coin could have a $ value associated with it with it
theirs an unlimited supply.
the coins are mined and only have value once they are sold.
when you buy a ValueCoin its hold the value you bought it at.

Bitcoin didn't see that one coming!LOL

19239  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin store is moving merchandise! on: August 26, 2011, 10:38:21 PM
this might be why we see crazy ups and DOWNS, at one point the store cashes out its bitcoins to buy more inventory

Many of the stores do "cash out" quickly.

But pricing commodities in bitcoin is a good thing. It makes a statement that a bitcoin is worth however much the merchandise is worth. In essence, vendors are pseudo-backing the currency with commodities - but only when they value their merchandise in bitcoin.

Right now the value of bitcoin is almost entirely determined by people speculating on the value of the currency. Bitcoin stores are critical for fixing this.

most stores take the current price on mt gox to calculate how many bitcoins an item is worth.

so they are not saying this item is worth 1btc
they are saying this item is worth 10$ and that = 1.1btc

bitcoins could be worth 10$ one day and 5$ then next, this doesn't really matter because the price for an item is calculated.

if i buy 10btc's at 100$ one day
and the next week its worth 110$ i'm happy
but if its worth 90$ ... not so happy

thats the only flaw in this system.
it seems as if the price will NEVER stabilize

is this a fatal flaw?

i think its slowly going down... its been over valued for a long time.

O RLY?
I think they're most certainly under valued at the moment, considering they're divisible up to 8 decimal places. That's for a reason, right?
That's just my "opinion" though...

its not really under valued or over valued its simply ... valued.

what will be interesting to see is once there are NO MORE coins to be mined...

what will happen then will be very cool.
21 million coins will be shared over 7 billion poeple
each person wants on average "1000$" how many BTC each dose that = to?

omg BUY NOW!

this however is a pipe dream...

BTC will never replace $

because 2012 is coming and soon we are all going to DIE!!!

so BUY BUY BUY all you want. in the end a piano will come crashing down out of the blue and kill you.
