2001  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Block 519996 just mined, which set BTC supply to 17 million exactly. on: April 26, 2018, 10:48:01 AM
supply to 17 million exactly

it is not "exactly" 17 million because in all these blocks there has been miners who messed with the code and made mistakes which meant they didn't take the block reward and that reward (that is newly genrated coins are lost forever). lost in this context means out of circulation and never entering it at all.
for example this one: https://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/7n1ie5/someone_destroyed_125_newly_mined_bitcoins/

Is there a way to calculate the exact amount of Bitcoins that are lost due to miner mis-configuration?
Looking at that thread, it does seem that it leaves evidence of such an event in the blockchain. Maybe someone already wrote a script to look for those errors?

2002  Economy / Games and rounds / Re: Joe's Signatureless Challenge: Win $25 + 8 Merits every week! (Round 6) on: April 26, 2018, 10:23:32 AM

Thinking about sponsoring for another week, but I want to have a slightly bigger impact this time Tongue

So I've come up with a little side-challenge for other people who are thinking of sponsoring this campaign.

I want to pledge another 0.01 BTC to be paid on Saturday, 21st of April.
But there's a catch...

I want to see some other people step up, so I will only send 0.01 BTC, if you get another 0.01 BTC in sponsorships from other people before Saturday, 21st of April (before 8PM UTC).

If that condition is not met, I'll just sponsor 0.005 BTC

Good idea or not?

Btw, I think you forgot to add me to the list of sponsors Wink

Great idea, but I haven't been able to revisit this challenge for over a week because of my unexpected schedule, so I'd wait on donating anything just yet Smiley We still have a good cushion in the account for now, so let's wait until we're in need of more funds to keep this going. Is that cool with you?

I'll make sure to add you to the sponsors! So sorry about that; it's been a shit week lol

Yeah that's totally fine by me, I was waiting until I heard back from you, so I'm glad that I did Smiley
I'm also willing to sponsor a bit of my time as well, to pick someone out for the next rounds or so. If that would help a bit with the work load.

We'll start a similar kind of challenge when the funds start to run out and do it in the beginning of the week rather than the end.
2003  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Help me out here on: April 25, 2018, 07:42:35 AM
So imagine I can make a copy of all the gold in the world and then sell it. Maybe not exactly the same but 99%. Perhaps a bit lighter or a little less golden in colour.

But in reality, this copy would be as near identical that it could be used in jewelry, electronics etc. Bit it wouldn't be gold.

Lets just call it new gold. Then I gave everyone who currently possed gold the same amount of new gold.

What would happen to the value of gold?

What do you think the value of new gold would be?

Wondering what turns this people hallucinate and reaching this high level of paranoia,is this effect of so much smoking?lol

Bitcoin cant be copied no matter how genius you are, because blockchain has made with high security that i think want never be hacked, and besides would you mind making your homework than posting this wild imagination

Either you're completely missing the point or you're joking somehow... OP is clearly making a comparison to Bitcoin forks and is asking if those forks affect the price of Bitcoin.
Your points about security are completely irrelevant.

OP, I do think that forks have an effect of the price, but I'm not sure if this is a long term effect.
You certainly have a short-term effect due to people buying additional coins to benefit from the fork (it's free money after all).

But whether those forks actually take marketshare away from Bitcoin? To a certain extent probably, but it's just difficult to say how much.
2004  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: The European Union will strengthen control and introduce a tax on cryptocurrency on: April 25, 2018, 07:33:05 AM
If its good for the crypto market as a whole then why not? EU has always been against crypto in my opinion, but if they wanted to adopt bitcoin and crypto and impose taxes then I guess I'm OK with it. We need to draw the line and regulation will add some form of legitimacy on the ecosystem. Regulations like KYC/AML for exchanges and putting a tax, will somewhat attract more investors in rich laden Europe to pour their cash on crypto, in my opinion. But I'm against a single regulatory body to overlook everything. Crypto is decentralizes, and that said, no one should be on top of it.

How has the EU always been against crypto? I've always had the idea that the EU itself isn't for or against crypto, since they're still working on legislation.
Also rules are widly different when you look at individual member states. In most cases, I'd say it's far better to live in most EU countries than in the US, as a crypto trader.

Here you pay a tax only when you exchange crypto to fiat, while in the US you pay taxes on every trade, even those between crypto.
2005  Economy / Gambling / Re: ★ Crypto-Games.net ★ Since 2014 ★ New Challenge with up to 1 BTC in prize pool! on: April 24, 2018, 02:37:04 PM
Thanks for the honesty. But not a fan of the above policy moving forward

Well, now the responsibility just lies with yourself, you usually have more than enough time to get your funds out in time before a fork happens.
Can't really expect CG to spend time on distributing multiple forked coins every time this happens. Where does it stop if you start doing that?
2006  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Steemish Gets Listed On Radex Plans Token Event on: April 24, 2018, 02:30:57 PM
Can you provide more information about this project? Thanks

The main objective of this ICO is to create a community-driven whale pool on Steemit.
50% of all the fund gathered through this ICO will go towards buying Steem Power for the @steemthat account on Steemit.

In the future it will also be used to fund further development of steemthat.com and turn it into an on-chain service, either on the Steem or EOS blockchain.

You can find out more here:

2007  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: EU - Deposit/Withdraw from/to Fiat, best ways ...? on: April 23, 2018, 09:48:11 AM
I personally haven't even noticed that this was an issue, I have no problems doing SEPA transfers with my bank account (ING).
I've been using Bitonic (available in Belgium and Netherlands) and Anycoin (available in more countries) without any issues.

Deposits to Kraken also arrive just fine.
2008  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Binance will use Blockchain Technology to help fuel 1000’s of jobs and boost Uga on: April 23, 2018, 09:22:16 AM
That's really great news, but are there some more in-depth articles about this?
What sort of jobs will they be offering to the people of Uganda qand why did they choose Uganda in the first place?

The articles that I was able to find, do not have any more information than that tweet.

2009  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: YouTuber's using marketing schemes toward bitcoin on: April 23, 2018, 08:07:38 AM
The only crypto related content I watch on Youtube is either by Andreas Antonopoulos or The Cryptoverse (Chris Coney).
They're both pretty trustworthy guys and cover just about any project in a fair way, not really making use of these scummy marketing techniques.

You're completely right that the most viewed crypto content on Youtube is usually these guys posing with their lambo's etc.
Trying to get people to sign up to their affiliate links. I can't believe that many people just fall for it.

They're probably just blinded by the prospects of easy profit.
2010  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: What you think about support in crypto casinos? on: April 23, 2018, 07:58:30 AM
I once talked to the support and I thought he had been a bot. I was like "Are you a bot?". He said "No". He is just doing his job in a good way. But the thing that I was worried about is that he really sounded like a robot. And to answer your question, yes I am satisfied, even though many people are complaining about not getting answers from him. Sometimes, the support team cannot handle all the messages at once. That is why people should be patient.

That's pretty funny, but that's the first time I've heard that anyone actually voicechatted with support.
The robot voice was probably due to latency issues, I don't think casino's have robots conducting voice chat for support :p

Maybe some day in the future perhaps, but not now.

2012  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin - What if governments restrict or block electricity supply for mining? on: April 20, 2018, 11:15:13 PM

For a massive mining farm, you'll need tons of solar panels to achieve a 24/7 mining operation. Imagine the needed capital for that to happen, though it still is viable in the long run I must say. Mining farms in China often use wind power and hydroelectric power to generate electricity and run their miners. If power providers won't be cooperative with you, it's best to move places and take your business somewhere else.

I actually do think that solar would be a viable option for the large scale mining farms, even for the smaller scale farms it could be doable since solar is rapidly getting cheaper every year.
A decent solar installation capable of running a couple of miners would only cost you around 10K, just giving ballpark numbers here.

A regular household can easily afford solar, at least in most western countries.
2013  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Battle of the stablecoins on: April 20, 2018, 10:45:17 PM
I'm looking forward to seeing how basecoin will develop in the near future, I've been seeing a lot of articles about it in mainstream media.
They've also got some really impressive backers, so I'm very interested in seeing them achieve their full potential.

Btw, it's called Basis now, basecoin was the old name.

Just some examples of the articles I'm talking about:

2014  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What is your involvment in crypto world? on: April 20, 2018, 10:31:18 PM
For me it's not my main source of income, I still work a regular job just because it's way less risky and gives me some purpose in live.
I mean, I love my job so why would I quit if I can just consider crypto as a hobby as well.

It's just too important for me to have that social contact that I'm getting through my job, couldn't imagine trading all day long. Just seems too boring.
2015  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: What you think about support in crypto casinos? on: April 20, 2018, 10:17:05 PM
I personally just play in one single crypto casino, crypto-grames of course, so I can't really compare it to others.
Crypto-Games support is very helpful for the handful of times I've actually contacted them. Never have to wait more than a couple of hours to get a response.

Also, the support given in chat is often sufficient to get your problem fixed and there's always a mod online.

I've been playing there for almost 3 years now.
2016  Economy / Economics / Re: World debt hits new record: good for BTC on: April 20, 2018, 10:10:35 PM
I'm not entirely sure of the correlation.. although debt.. particularly nations debt is a subject that fascinated me but also confuses me. I don't think there will ever be some huge sway to crypto due to a mistrust in traditional finacial systems.

There is already an impact do to mistrust in financial systems, just look at the trading volume increase that's happening in Venezuela right now.
that's fully due to mistrust in their local financial system, the same thing could easily happen in other countries.

Bitcoin could easily replace gold as a safe store of value in the future and I'm sure there are already many people who have switched over.

It's not called digital gold for nothing...
2017  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin as new hope for humanity on: April 20, 2018, 10:04:06 PM
I really don't know what to think of your post, because I think you might be moving towards Bitcoin for the wrong reasons.
You said that you were first investing in HYIP's. If you then switched over to Bitcoin, I would think that you're also just looking to use Bitcoin or crypto as a way to make a quick profit.

Investing in crypto could be just as risky as investing in HYIP's, especially if you're trying out day-trading.

But yeah you do mention that you're also learning more about trading, so that's definitely good. Just be careful Wink
2018  Other / Meta / Re: Simple improvement for the report function on: April 20, 2018, 03:12:52 PM
Also interested in hearing from people who report a lot, how they avoid accidentally reporting topics multiple times... Vod? Flying Hellfish? rickbig41? etc.
I don't report much but I have a text file to keep track which post I've reported Tongue
yes, I think theymos needs to improve the report system to avoid duplicate reports by a single reporter
simple report scoring system is sufficient, as a post get reported by more users it goes up in report priority list
that should reduced accidental double reports and speed up mods work to check based on priority

Yeah I was also thinking of storing the titles of threads I've reported, but it seems a little bit unhandy to switch to a Google doc the entire time.

I was thinking some more about suggesting new features in general and that reminded me of something..
Isn't there a new version of this forum or something? These suggestions might all be redundant if Bitcointalk is going to upgrade soon?

Didn't find an ETA though...

2019  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Why gambling is portrayed negatively almost everywhere? on: April 20, 2018, 08:39:30 AM
IMO, trading is legalize by government meanwhile gambling is not

Why government legalize trading ?
Well, every government have their own policy to legalize trading activity or not. As I know, trading are control by world influence so let say if Trump declare war against South Korean, I'm sure most American stock will got it's affect while gambling are being control by house edge, codes, etc

There are enough countries where gambling is fully legalized though. Isn't gambling legal in the US in some states?
Do you have any options for online gambling if you're from the US or is online gambling just outright banned there?

Gambing being regulated is different than it being illegal...
2020  Economy / Economics / Re: Know Your Customer on: April 19, 2018, 06:10:54 PM
I don't have a personal problem with the KYC procedure but in the same time i ask my self what kind of measures do they acssualy take to protect the confidential info's from the hackers or any other criminal activity? I agree that we should know  where the money goes but we need protection to.
You should have problem since KYC collects all your personal information, thus losing your anonymity and the coins somewhat losing a part of its decentralization. All your financial transactions will be tracked and you will have to pay your taxes from the capital gains. Why do we have to pay the government for something they have no interest on or has no control over?

I don't fully agree with your statement. I think it's fair that a certain part of your income gets taxed by the government. I mean, the government also provides us with public services, which are paid for by our taxes.
Treating cryptocurrency as assets seems like the most fair way to get taxes from them. Meaning, you only pay taxes when you convert crypto to fiat.

The problem I do have with KYC is that your data is potentially being handled insecurely. Imagine if the entire database of ID-copies is hacked and you become a victim of identity theft...
I doubt that every exchange has impenetrable security, we've seen enough exchanges get hacked in the past.
