2082  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Bot to automatically check signatures. on: November 25, 2019, 08:45:54 AM
Regarding to the bot that checks signed messages for changes, I think you should consider posting the original messages in quotation tags, otherwise there is another bot checking for plagiarism which can accidentally report those posts as a plagiarism. Too many bots working the same time can have some issues.
2083  Other / Meta / (Request) Script or fix to delete multiple messages from the inbox. on: November 24, 2019, 09:45:25 PM
As the subject stated above, I want to be able to delete many messages at once directly from the search results in my inbox.
Everyone having the notification bot will know the struggle.

Any easy solutions and suggestions are welcome.

I'm not sure if there's another thread for this already, or if this belongs in a different section. So basically I thought it would be helpful to post up your Bitcoin address in this thread in the event that your account gets compromised later on down the road. You can simply make a new alt account, sign the address that your original account posted here, and have irrefutable proof that you're the actual owner. It's not 100% guaranteed that you'll get your account back, but it's a pretty good start. Of course, if your account is compromised, the hacker could just come back to this thread and edit/delete whatever address you post here, so that's why I'm asking people to quote the address posted by the preceding user in this thread. Here's mine:

ROFL for the first time I see someone staking a cat here as a proof. Wonder how you gonna sign a message with this cat in a few years.

Happy 10th anniversary, I had two amazing years here, the forum changed my day life completely and I love it.
You (We) are writing the history right now and here for the future generations to come.

When Fiat and Banks are history and blochain connect eveone people will come to read how everything started.
Bitcoin is still young but strong, I won't live long enough to see the last Bitcoin mined but I'm sure when this happens the world will be a better place.

Spent quite some time playing this one today. Really liked it, what is the max of users? I crossed 1000 but I had to leave it on autoplay for a few minutes and a Fud wave just broke the resistance.

2089  Other / Meta / Re: new board request - Online Privacy & Security on: November 20, 2019, 02:40:47 PM
We really need a new board.
Yesterday hackers breached the security of the official Montero website and replaced the wallet binaries with infested ones. The problem was deteced jsut a half hour later but there were already reports for lost coins...
Anyway I posted today the news in beginners and help section but my post was moved to Altcoin Discussion. There are almost no views there.
2090  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / WARNING!! Official Monero Site Hacked to Distribute Crypto Stealing Malware!! on: November 20, 2019, 10:54:37 AM
This is important!! DO NOT DOWNLOAD ANYTHING FROM GETMONERO.COM! (now it might be save, but still better to wait a bit).
IF you have downloaded and run anything from the their official website yesterday, it's maybe already too late .

What an irony — someone hacked the official website of the Monero cryptocurrency project and quietly replaced legitimate Linux and Windows binaries available for download with malicious versions designed to steal funds from users' wallets.
The latest supply-chain cyberattack was revealed on Monday after a Monero user spotted that the cryptographic hash for binaries he downloaded from the official site didn't match the hashes listed on it.
Following an immediate investigation, the Monero team today also confirmed that its website, GetMonero.com, was indeed compromised, potentially affecting users who downloaded the CLI wallet between Monday 18th 2:30 am UTC and 4:30 pm UTC.

Warning: The binaries of the CLI wallet were compromised for a short time
Posted by: ErCiccione

November 19, 2019

Yesterday a GitHub issue about mismatching hashes coming from this website was opened. A quick investigation found that the binaries of the CLI wallet had been compromised and a malicious version was being served. The problem was immediately fixed, which means the compromised files were online for a very short amount of time. The binaries are now served from another, safe, source. See the reddit post by core team member binaryfate.

It's strongly recommended to anyone who downloaded the CLI wallet from this website between Monday 18th 2:30 AM UTC and 4:30 PM UTC, to check the hashes of their binaries. If they don't match the official ones, delete the files and download them again. Do not run the compromised binaries for any reason.

We have two guides available to help users check the authenticity of their binaries: Verify binaries on Windows (beginner) and Verify binaries on Linux, Mac, or Windows command line (advanced). Signed hashes can be found here: https://getmonero.org/downloads/hashes.txt.

The situation is being investigated and updates will be provided soon.

2091  Other / Meta / Re: List of Bitcointalk.org Userscripts/ Add-ons on: November 20, 2019, 09:56:15 AM
Is there a script showing which user is banned, I couldn't find anything yet about it? LoyceV has the list of banned users publicly available so I guess it won't be that difficult to write a script and check for the UID in the list or maybe find another, easier approach? We are waiting for such script for quite a while now. It was promised that it will be included in the BPIP add-on but...

After the warning that people can vote in Ivory Tower no matter the rank, I think everyone who votes should aslo state his vote officially in this thread, then the chance of altering the results with alts is almost zero.

I voted for nr. 9
2093  Other / Meta / Re: [LIST]Open Merit Source Applications,waiting list. on: November 19, 2019, 12:21:52 AM
Maybe I shouldn't have posted the montly allocation even though Alex_sr have stated it in his post, I don't want to start fights between the sources and theymos. Maybe that's why everyone was keeping quiet about it. I think I should keep it that way and remove the amount of smerit.
Sorry guys.

All this information is public iasenko
Just look here and you will see who has more sMerits to give as a source, and who are the sources:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=merit;stats=topsend

Even if theymos removed those links, there would still be users who like to deal with data, statistics and whatsover and would generate this data and post here.

Edit: I understand your worries about the drama, but I think there won't be much drama.

You can't be 100% sure even if you have all the stats. First you don't know if the users are emptying their source merit or sending earned merit as well. You don't know how much merit is left after those 30 days. You can't get the clear picture, you can only assume, which assumption will be probably close to the reality but still... I don't want to make people feel bad about something I stated in my posts... #spreadlove

There is one more confirmation from today - Alex_Sr  with a monthly allocation of <removed> source merit > https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=4213877.msg53103042#msg53103042
Congrats.
What's the policy for disclosing such informations?
Usually MS have been quite retinent disclosing their allowance, I only heard about vague indications when asked, or describing only percentage change referencing to theymos doing some allowance review.
Asking for a friend.

There is one more confirmation from today - Alex_Sr  with a monthly allocation of <removed> source merit

WTF! I thought I was a big merit source with 150 smerits monthly allocation!!
 Angry

lol. Still trying to find posts to spend them.

Maybe I shouldn't have posted the montly allocation even though Alex_sr have stated it in his post, I don't want to start fights between the sources and theymos. Maybe that's why everyone was keeping quiet about it. I think I should keep it that way and remove the amount of smerit.
Sorry guys.

@bitmover, @fillippone, @Alex_sr,
Please remove the stated smerit amount from your posts,.
We already have enough drama, we do not need more.

Isn't it better if the one reporting is the one to choose from a predefined cases of rule breaking what is suitable for this particular case and the mods only approve/disapprove the report.
In this case the work of the mods is reduced to only reading the post and the subject of the report (which they already do anyway) , and if the subject is correct only to approve it while removing the post. It can even be one single button approve and delete.
2096  Other / Meta / Re: The .com forum on: November 18, 2019, 07:27:17 PM
Interesting stats :most user online 330 on 4th or November 2019.
This is just like a week or so ago and there was a hugs wave of users. Currently there are only 7 online and 1 registered.
If the site has been online for so long why just now is the topping of this ststs? Weird.

I had a thread on this subject a while ago : https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5130198.0

Congrats.
Some of the other applicants seem to be not so active lately and I assume their applications are still open.

By the way, didn't I see that you, iasenko, are not yet a merit source?  You should probably apply, since you have been very good at providing good information to the forum and also filtering through information in order to help others to discern the difference between good and bad posts, so might as well add yourself to the group of merit source applicants, if you have not already done so.

No, I'm not a merit source, I actually manage to have enough earned merit to be able to distribute them almost without interruption, of course when I'm not that active there were a few times I ran out of smerit for week or two but again, all it's up to how active you are on the forum.
Regarding the Merit Source application, if I run out complete out of sMerit then I'll probably apply for one, if they don't implement the Report to Merit source button before that.

Q: I want to know more about the Merit Points System
A: You have to follow the Merit & new rank requirements link below, it's a long discussion there.

* 130 as per 21.05.19
Because of the bump from ChibitCity, I found that the figure of total merit sources in OP is incorrect. Please update it when you have spare time.
Temporarily, there are 98 merit souces in total.
I have my thread: Merit source observations
If you think that thread is helpful, I hope it will be included in your OP.

Thanks for the note, there are other things that need to be changed too but this requires more time in front of the computer like the new trust system and some new restrictions. I'll update the correct number of merit sources and will add a link to the number of sources to the tranthidung's thread, so from now on I won't keep a track here in the thread if there is already a dedicated thread for it.

The major forks for the BTC previously held by OgNasty will be liquidated sometime before the end of the year. When this is done, you'll see a bunch of BTC sent to 17RTT[...]. The forkcoins for the other BTC will not be liquidated soon.

If this is done in one go we can await some fluctuations in the price of the forked BTC/shitcoins pairs then. Some people will take a chance to make some money from the whole thing.

If this is done in one go

It won't be.

Good to know. Smiley

Those topics are not directly related to Bitcoin/Crypo but they can be really crucial for those who keep their investments in digital currency on their computers/mobile phones. Actually they are most of the time the main target of the hackers.
Keeping good "digital hygiene" it's important but often there are vectors you don't realize that can be used against you. Every day comes out different bug/vulnerabilities in browsers, operating systems, software that could be used directly against the crypto-community so the awareness is crucial. I would love to see those posts even in the news feed, like theymos does it with wallet-related issues but...
I have a few posts myself there, backed with the logic that the newbies not always are so prepared as the "old dogs".
