1201  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / How to verify a Trezor Message if you don't own Trezor HW wallet? on: June 26, 2020, 01:06:42 PM
Maybe a dump question but if I sign a message with my Trezor, and the address is just a SegWit P2WPKH-in-P2SH addresses (starting with 3) then the only way to verify it is to use the trezor's own verification tool.

That means that if you have no Trezor HW wallet, you cannot verify my message.

^ Is that correct?
1202  Other / Meta / Re: Merit system implementation to earlier adopters of Bitcointalk on: June 25, 2020, 10:49:43 PM
Just to make it more clear, when the system was implemented every rank got their merit airdropped accordingly.
There was an exemption, tho. Some Hero Members got airdropped merit for Legendary rank because they had already achieved the required minimum activity for legendary 775 a d since the Legendary ranking up is happening on random basis for activity between 775 and 1030 they were considered Legendary.
1203  Other / Meta / Re: 6000+ posts and 0 merit...and the winner 🥇 is... on: June 25, 2020, 12:38:16 PM
Another nominee this time with 3500+ posts and 0 Merit, I present you >
marius 4qu1l4

BTW I couldn't find one non-bounty report/application comment.
Challenge? Tongue
1204  Other / Meta / Re: [LIST]Open Merit Source Applications,waiting list. on: June 24, 2020, 10:53:50 PM
Things changed but I'm still tje same.
Now I have no clue how long we need to wait. Gmaxwell mentioned something about six months or so but now since we already crossed half a year we might need to just bump this until themos decides that it's time.
We wait...
Seems like reasonable... But if we're going to count it by then it should be 3mos or so, though I just hope we really can see changes by this time especially the ones who're asking for another increase just like me.

Just been saving so I won't run out again...

I was expecting something  to happen around Jun 14 too. I mean excatly six months. Now, we all know how theymos loves to delegate tedious duties to algorithms, but actually the strict 6 months deadline might have been a little bit too much: everyone (or many of us) were expecting a revision around that time, so someone could have "played" with merits habits to present himself ready for that appointment. I guess he might value a little bit of "randomness" or "human touch" dealing with such delicate aspects.

I'm fine waiting, anyway I have so much to do this summer so the time spent on the forum is not that much anymore.
From September til New year's eve I'll be home on a leave so maybe I'll have some more time then, if the house project is over by then. As i said I can wait, theymos is a great guy so whenever he decides to take some steps I'll be there to help Smiley
1205  Other / Meta / Re: 2020 Merit Source Application - TheBeardedBaby. on: June 24, 2020, 09:33:43 AM
Seems like my post 4000 will be kind of a bump.

Just hitting another milestone today,1000 sent merit (hoarding still 2) and some minor milestones too > 4000 posts @ 2002 earned merit, which makes 0.5 earned merit per post.

^ Do this fit to the "somehowwhat established member" requirement for a merit source?

FTFY:  Don't mean to be a stickler (yes, I do), but "somehow" and "somewhat" have different meanings in the referred-to context.

Hahahahahaha

Seems to me that the concept of "somewhat established member" is merely to weed out the new newbies.. but not to be so exclusive to assert that low rank would preclude consideration or inclusion, and seems pretty clear that you have likely well-surpassed those who might be outside of such "somewhat established member" status (almost in an over-qualifying sense..  hahahahaaha).

Perhaps, what could be holding theymos back from immediately taking up the mantle of immediately revising aspects of the merit sources is that his revision in November 2019 was pretty BIG, so maybe he senses a bit less urgency in making significant adjustments, even if there might be some members (such as you, bearded) that he would likely have no problema adding to the bank of "somewhat established members" who transition into merit source status.

Note: I am not trying to suggest that I have any insight beyond something approximating pure guestimation.. however unhelpful that might be? Wink

Thank you for the correction. As you can tell I don't really like to use google (or any other) translator, and my written English is really bad. I'm trying to avoid also autocorrect so I can actually keep learning the language. I wish I had the time back in the day to take a proper courses and learn the damn thing as the other people do, but I was forced to study Spanish instead and wasted 5 years for language I actually never really practice (I love Spanish and Spain!!!) .. when you set your goals you really need to set them right.

1209  Other / Meta / Re: Suggestion: Make it just a little more difficult to create a new account. on: June 23, 2020, 07:52:27 AM
Is that the actual reasoning behind why we don't have it though? I don't think I've seen theymos (or satoshi) mention that.
I don't see that mentioned either but that's the impression I get after reading some of the comments:
Reading that > https://bitcointalk.org/first_topics/4.pdf
gives me an impression that the email confirmation is only useful to prevent from spam but satoshi had a better option so the email verification was unnecessary.

Here it confirms it too>
Email verification is useless. Anyone with access to a domain name can receive an unlimited number of verifications until that service is blocked, and then they can move on to another domain name.

IP blocking works alright if you spend a lot of time building proxy blocklists, but SMF doesn't have the tools to do it properly.

So all is about freedom and anonymity, isn't it?

I've read before some other comments as well, i'll dig more when I have time.

Looking for this post?
Yes, IIRC there were a few places where anonymity was disscused. This was one of them.
1210  Other / Meta / Re: Suggestion: Make it just a little more difficult to create a new account. on: June 23, 2020, 06:36:00 AM
It's simple, there is no email confirmation just to keep a higher level of anonymity. No strings attached.
This was the real Satoshi vision (not referring to the scammy shitcoin here) - freedom and anonymity!
And theymos is following this vision greatly, except for the ClouldFlare drawback but there he has no other option to protect the forum from DDoS attacks.

Jockjolys posting an obvious Ponzi scam, although scam is not regulated I suspect Jockjolys is an alt of Joniswad which was banned yesterday posting the same thing in Bitcoin discussion(reference below).

I've really thought someone has opened up a new thread about this, LoL. Didn't know it was just you iasenko. Changed Name. Though how much longer do you think we still need to wait before a few changes on MSs?

Things changed but I'm still tje same.

Sorry for the off topic, but it's valuable info. Smiley

Thank you guys for the information, I'll removed the closed one and I will add the new one tomorrow.
The list is getting longer but we haven't heard anything from theymos yet. Now there are more than six months since the last update.

7 months now...

Just an idea, why don't link the other graphs/stats you made, below on each post with graphs so people like Hhampuz don't get confused. It's not that much of a work but it will be nice to have a quick access to all of them, and you get aslo a better exposure. Smiley
Something like these:

I thought more like adding a link to the Merit Race thread on the bottom of the post and same adding a link to this thread on the Merit Race thread. But adding a link to a list like you give examples is also a good solution, tho you need to maintain another thread with a list.
Btw, I did the same, but only for reference to quickly find what I need.

Update, dodged again, 10 weeks max, 5 more resets  Grin

Oh man, you really draw the short straw, I've seen others ranking at 1030 so you are not alone in this but you still have time.
CryptopreneurBrainboss made it trough @840 Activity.

Some people haven't posted yet like BitCryptex so I'll update the list soon.
