1101  Other / Meta / Re: Is your Bitcointalk password strong enough? on: August 13, 2020, 10:17:50 PM
What is the point of having strong Bitcointalk password when the weakest link is the email password. Nobody will try to crack your password here, it's easier to hack your email address and there you go.
I would not agree with you that weakest link here is email password.
Someone (Hacker) can send you PM in forum (it happened before) with phishing link. You click on the link and enter your password with login information. No email is used.
Hacker can do a lot of damage before original user finds out about the hack.

If someone creates weak password in one place, than he will create weak passwords everywhere.
I was shocked recently when I heard some people use one and only password for everything...
Weakest link here are human beings.

If you leak your email address you can receive similar phishing email, but I would not ask anyone to register in forum with two email addresses.
Adding 2FA (without using sms) seems good enough solution for now, but I would like to see some futuristic option including bitcoin blockchain confirmation Smiley

Strong passwords protected you only against brut force Attempts. In the example you gave it does not really matter how strong password you are using if you going to write it down on a phishing link.
I agree that the weakest link are the users most of the time.
Still I tend to trust Theymos more than some email provider, even after the 2015 hack.

I'm not saying that the bitcointalk password shouldn't be strong enough but I suggest people focus on their email passwords. Better change them more often or even create a new fresh email address from time to time only to access the forum.

I would love to see the multi-signature approach here, to recover your bitcointalk password you need to have at least two different emails registered, and until you click the both verification links you don't get an access.
1104  Other / Meta / Re: Bitcointalk.org YouTube channel? on: August 13, 2020, 08:31:51 PM
Yes PLEASE theymos see this! Let's do something really cool, get in the whole courses idea sorted out and upload it on udemy, have a youtube profile for bitcoin/bitcointalk related stuff. AND A TWITTER for roasting roger ver and for the memes, duh!

save 2020 pls.

He has no time for this, that's why he posted it as an idea with a question and that's why the community have to gather and point out some candidates for the task. People who are really into what is going on in the forum and want to do it.
One thing I've learned here in the forum, if you want some nice things to happen, you have to work for it, they are not just dropped by theymos as gift, we as a community have to do something to make it happen. We can't just wait and say "Theymos do this, theymos do that". His name maybe sounds like a god's one but he is a human as we are (except for LoyceV, we all know he is an AI) and seems like one really busy human being.
If we don't gather, find people who want to participate and finally present them to him for approval, it won't happen. It is exactly the same situation with EpochTalk. If we want it, we have to test it first and report the bugs, and when all is done, then we will get it.

1105  Other / Meta / Re: [CLUB] The SpamBusters! Busting rule-breakers constantly. on: August 13, 2020, 09:16:24 AM
Can't you make a list with keywords/links to check or it takes a lot of resources to check every single post?
It takes some scripting. Currently, I do a "search all" in the last 10,000 to 20,000. That's quite resource intensive (I now do it 3 times every 5 minutes), but it should be okay if I spend some more time on it and only search new posts.

I have an idea, you could maybe add a link to the report to the mods option after each listed post.
It will give a person the possibility to quickly report the posts. Or maybe add a link to the original post in the bitcointalk so we can report them from there, there are too many clicks now to go trough to report each one of the posts.
I hope you don't hate that much for keeping you busy so often with all my ideas...
1106  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: SportsBet.io doesn't pay out my profits!! on: August 13, 2020, 08:03:24 AM
Everyone should be able to post scam accusations. As long as you can provide enough evidence that the scam actually happen then I see no issues to have such rank restrictions.
Simple scenario :
You assume you got scammed by some XYZ company and the first thing you do you search for "XYZ + Scam" and guess what, the bitcointalk thread pops up on the top. You come here, register new account and post your scam accusation. If the XYZ company have a representative in the forum then your problem could be solved, but since you have all the needed evidence to prove that the company is doing a shady business, you should be free to post and let community decide whether your accusations are true or false.
1107  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How use electrum wallet on laptop with mobile bitpay App on: August 13, 2020, 06:49:50 AM
I scan it with my QR code reader and it begins with "m", here is the address below :
mhcTwpW87QqmaPrB6DyE5kceCsHzkpkbQd

If you go to the https://bitpay.com/blog/copay-and-bitpay-release/
you will see that on the example picutures the address is also starting with "m". Can that be a test-net address since you have Bitcoin Test Wallet 2 on the picutre an the test-net addresses begin with m or n??

Edit: There's a youtube video showing that the receiving address starts with 4, but after scanning the code the actual address starts with 3.
1108  Other / Meta / Re: [CLUB] The SpamBusters! Busting rule-breakers constantly. on: August 13, 2020, 06:27:46 AM
Here's a new one: trustcoin.exchange: https://loyce.club/other/scam3.html. Anyone feel free to report them, I got to go! Update: they're Nuked up to scam post 54985156.

I should setup a more permanent solutionw with keywords for a continuous search.

Damn, yesterday I reported already a bunch of posts with link to this exchange. Seems like they don't give up.
Can't you make a list with keywords/links to check or it takes a lot of resources to check every single post? Some "good projects" after the first wave of spam tend to come back and flood the forum again and again. If you manage to detect them it's easy but sometimes I see posts after a few days which is enough to scam someone.
1109  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How use electrum wallet on laptop with mobile bitpay App on: August 12, 2020, 10:08:24 PM
In addition to what Jackg suggested, if you decide to use the QR-code don't install random QR code readers, if the bitpay app doesn't have a qr code reader (which i doubt, then better send or save the address in Google Write and verify it that that is the same address when you are planning to use it.
It's very easy to get tricked and loose your funds. Be careful.
1110  Economy / Reputation / Re: [LIST] Legendary Rank up Observer. on: August 12, 2020, 09:02:52 AM
Any doubt?  Wink

The next reset will be my last one  Grin

Well you still have the chance rank up again on 26th August and avoid being the last one, but on 9th of September it will be inevitable, of course if you make a post on that day. I wonder when @BitCryptex will rank up, he need only 1 post to rank up to Legendary now.

On the other hand we have a new fellow Legendary in the club Cheesy
Congratulations to bitmover Good work man Smiley

Just to add to what the other guys already said, the bans are personal, that means that you as a person are banned from the forum so every new account you create will eventually get banned, no matter the location you are on. So just don't waste yours and the moderators' time to create a new accounts, just find another place to do what you did here, there are many other forums out there..

I guess i missed something, what is this scam.html doing?
I see posts with a suspicious link, are you catching all the posts containing this link in the scam.html?
If that's so, how can i report a scam link? I guess it's manual via PM, right?

Looking at the sticker on the picture and with the feedback for the issues with a fallen one while unpacking, do you guys think it's OK quality? I mean if they are falling that easily is it still worth it? I understand that the demand was pretty high for what was expected, but if it was me the producer, I would delay the delivery a bit  but send a quality products, not just throw thing in the bag and send them over just like that.
Looks not so serious.
1115  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: {WARNING} Cybersecurity vulnerabilities/flaws: Ledger exploit (10.08.20). on: August 11, 2020, 12:51:55 PM
TheBeardedBaby, Ledger is fix this vulnerability just one day after monokh announced publicly what exactly it was about - I can confirm that Bitcoin app is updated on 2020-08-05 - more info here : https://donjon.ledger.com/lsb/014/

Aveatrex, about 1 million e-mails are stolen, but Ledger say hacker is got users data (e-mail, first+last name, full home address, and phone number) for 9500 Ledger users/buyers. All users received a general warning, with the difference that these 9500 users received further clarification.

Thanks for your clarification, I do not own any Ledger products, so I am not so familiar with the usage. If only the Bitcoin app is supposed to be updated, then the issue is solved if you are keeping your device up to date.
News like this are ruining the reputation of the hardware wallets in general for the public who have no idea how they really operate.
1116  Other / Meta / Re: Bitcointalk.org YouTube channel? on: August 11, 2020, 12:45:40 PM
Any progress on this one??
1117  Economy / Reputation / Re: [Interviews] with Bitcointalk members on: August 11, 2020, 11:04:55 AM
TheBeardedBaby (Legendary)

1.   When and why did you become interested in cryptocurrencies?
First time I heard of bitcoin was in 2010, when a friend told me about it, and was joking that we must invest, I should have listened to him. I came into the deep in 2017.

2.   When and why did you when you buy your first bitcoin?
I got my first satoshis in 2013, there was a website trybtc.(something) where people got some bitcoin to try it. Later in 2013 we were mining with a friend but when he tried to sell the btc he got scammed. Lesson learned. As many others in the same situation we just left the crypto field until 2017. This is when I bought my first satoshis, in the summer when the price surged to 3K$.

3.   How did you get on the forum?
After I bought my first satoshis I started reading more about bitcoin, in 2013 we just mined them we did not understand much about it. I end up on the forum while looking for a captcha solving service, I don't remember why I needed that captcha thing. But I fall in love with the forum and all that history hidden in the pages.

4.   Have you ever overstepped your principles in the forum?
In or out of the forum I’m always being myself and following what I feel is right. Sometimes I see things I don’t like, and I try to oppose, I try to rise a voice and make changes which will benefit others, same with the forum. The forum has a very complicated political kind of structure, which creates parties with different interests and businesses, confronting each other, which generates only a negative effect on the forum, and I don’t like that, but I can’t change it. I really don’t want to participate in any party (maybe I'll move to Switzerland).
Sometimes my understanding does differ with those of the mods, so I got some of my posts deleted as being spam or off-topic. The interpretation of the rules is a funny thing.

5.    What do you think of the current Merit system and signature campaigns?  Do they harm the forum?
The merit system was one of the best things that happen to the forum. There were many who had account farms, developing, and selling accounts with bots, which created a ton of spam and the forum was drowning in it. After the merit came in place, those who were worthy posters got a bit ahead of the others. The system did put a break to many newbies coming for “free money”.
This leads to the next question regarding the signature campaigns. As every other thing they also have positive and negative sides. The pros are that many good projects get exposure, the forum traffic is higher and there is some extra income for the regular users.
The cons: Some of the campaign managers don’t do their job properly allowing spammers to join the campaigns and make money for spamming, which drags more of those spammers.
Since there is no better control over the credibility of the projects, sometimes people promote a lot of scam project and many loose their money. Those who get scammed often label the cryptocurrencies as scam, sad story.

6.   The most useful forum topic? Most helpful users?

Every section has its own useful topics, I can think of at least 50 now but it is no need to list them. Many people are making lists of those topics, so no one needs another one 😊. It’s exciting when you find them, tho.
Regarding the users, I personally got help from many nice people during those years, the forum is full of nice and helpful people, it’s amazing. I won’t mention particular users because again I have to create a long list, but you can easily recognize them.

7.   3 things you would implement on the forum?
That’s a thought task if you don’t want to cross the forum (Satoshi and admin’s) principles. Let’s try:
- New clear Official Rules.
- Migrating to Epochtalk ASAP
- Create a new rank after Legendary

8.   Do you trade on exchanges or invest in projects?
I trade but not so actively as I do not have enough time for that, I open positions once a month or two depending on the BTC price swings.
I do not invest in projects as this takes way more time to research a project than to trade.

9.   Tell a story about your big profit or big loss?
There are no big profits nor losses, I slowly generate some satoshis, that’s all.

10.   What do you think about the DEFI ecosystem?
This is the right way to go, we need to see the current financial system developing, combining it the possibilities of the blockchain will have a very interesting outcome. But what is most important is to keep following the the bitcoin legacy – Be Your Own Bank, have a financial freedom, and control what you actually own.

11.   Is your anonymity a vital necessity or precaution?
It’s more precaution, I’m not whale Cheesy

12.   The last cryptocurrency book you read?
Don’t have time to read crypto books unfortunately, but I love to listen to some of the work of people like Andreas Antonopoulos, for example. Basically, podcasts and YouTube videos.

13.   Advise 3 cryptocurrencies/tokens for investment in the next 1-2 years?
I don’t follow the alt market so I can give only one suggestion - BTC  😊

14.    How much will Bitcoin cost at the end of 2020?
1 BTC will cost exactly 1 BTC. Fiat are unstable.

15. P.S.
“Hard times create strong men, strong men create good times, good times create weak men, and weak men create hard times.” G. Michael Hopf

1119  Economy / Reputation / Re: Top 1000 merit receivers who were not active the past 30 days. on: August 10, 2020, 02:13:51 PM
New update with a small mistake, those who were not active the past 6 days appeared in the list, but I marked them with red. I'll fix the list tomorrow.
I see Piggy was online at the end of the last month so disappear from the list. Hope to see the same with TMAN soon...

1120  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: {WARNING} Cybersecurity vulnerabilities/flaws: Ledger exploit (10.08.20). on: August 10, 2020, 09:54:20 AM
I'm quoting my post from the Wallets software section, so I can add it to the list.

I came across this news and decide to share it with you guys so people should be aware if their funds get locked by ledger and cannot be spent. You guys need to update the hardware wallet to fix it.
I do not own Ledger and I cannot 100% confirm the legitimacy of the source website but seems that the guy who found the vulnerability actually posted it on Twitter.

Quote
In brief
A vulnerability in Ledger's hardware wallets allows a request for an altcoin transaction to actually request the movement of Bitcoin.
The exploit was reportedly disclosed to Ledger back in 2019.
Ledger said it's because the firm wanted "to avoid a situation where user funds would be locked and users unable to spend their funds.”

An exploit in Ledger’s crypto hardware wallets could allow malicious actors to steal Bitcoin, according to a report published by Liquality developer Mohammed Nokhbeh on Tuesday.

The attack works by the bad actor creating a transaction that looks like an altcoin payment (a coin that isn’t Bitcoin) when it actually takes Bitcoin out of the wallet instead.

“An attacker can exploit this method to transfer Bitcoin while the user is under the impression that a transaction of another, less valuable altcoin (e.g. Litecoin, Testnet Bitcoins, Bitcoin Cash, etc.) is being executed,” wrote Nokhbeh.
This is worrying because the user thinks that they’re handing out 0.01 of an altcoin, which could be far less valuable than 0.01 Bitcoin, for instance.

"A new version of the Bitcoin app will be released today, with an update that will display a warning and prompt for confirmation when an unexpected path is used—therefore solving this issue," said a Ledger spokesperson (who later confirmed that the fix is now live).
