2081  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: News of a mini RasPi for 5$ How could this change bitcoin mining? on: November 30, 2015, 03:03:33 AM
I am not sure the question is not answered by one, but I'll elaborate just so we are clear. If you can find a block with an rPi ZERO then you'll agree the mBTC is covered by that block, or am I missing something here? Then again, I am not sure one rPi ZERO can not mine an mBTC and still be re-useable, be it for tinkering or as an expensive controller, and that in effect being the proof that cpu mining is not dead.
But you are right, you started this thread and you must be correct.

Me starting the thread does not make me god.
But it doesn't really matter here, i'm just pointing out;

You can't say "To get millions of USD, just go buy a lottery ticket." and its what you're saying here. Every time this would be applied, for nearly everyone, this would be false.

Therefore saying a RasPI0 can be used to mine BTC blocks is wrong as well.

I think the you are correct the RPI will not be used to mine even as lotto.  It needs a secondary miner hooked up to it, you can use U3's, Compac's, etc.  But a RPI alone is not enough CPU/GPU combo to really mine alone.

Although I would love for someone to prove me wrong and do a mining unit with 4 in a stack: http://www.amazon.com/Qunqi-Acrylic-4-layer-Enclosure-Raspberry/dp/B013SSA3HA .  I love that case just never have had a use to get a case for multiple working together.

Thats really cute, but unless you need to use multiple raspi to control different kind of miners, i dont really see a point. Its not like it ever become a cost-effective solution when it comes to obtaining processing powers.

They are just amazing because when you do not need much processing power, the individual cost of your computer become extremely cheap. Now from 5$, to 20-40$ for a deluxe one.
2082  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How many bitcoin address you have right now? why you have more than one? on: November 30, 2015, 03:00:28 AM
Thousands? And thats what everyone should have. At least if securing your BTC is your priority.

Some people like to have one receiving address, but HD wallets are much more secure and there's not really a reason to not use one different address for every receiving transactions.

Hello and welcome to the forum and to the Bitcoin world! I suggest you to read, learn and research this amazing technology until you don't understand it enough!

As for the earnings, there are no too many places at the moment. There are signature campaigns, but for this you need a decent full member profile. Faucets are waste of time for example! Try to offer goods or services online for payment in Bitcoin! Be creative!

Cloudmining is a waste of time as well!

Good luck!

You cannot classify all cloud mining as a waste.   There are a few good one's out there.  But cloud or hardware there is no guarantee of ROI.  Most do it as they enjoy it.

Did you log into Bit-X much?  You do notice it has hash confirmed with bitfury and is a "Ghash Exchange"... which is cloud mining.  If you feel that way about all cloud mining you might think about switching signature campaigns.

Hashnest is okay too, it cost more than having your miners hosted at proper locations, so its not supertastic but at least its a legit option. I think its safe to say Bitmain would have too much to lose, by scamming off their Hashnest users.
2084  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: What things you want to Buy or Sell for Bitcoin ? but you can't! on: November 30, 2015, 02:56:58 AM
Buying food, it seems that easy but in my local region there is no one merchant accepting bitcoin for right now..

I can buy food online for bitcoins so thats fine for me. Also you could use a BTC-debit card to use at any local store.

Personally its things online that only take mastercard or paypal funds. I would love it if Steam could accept BTC directly.

So your address is : 19zYbGwxFjokYQMPftvEijCBQWEsnJV7Ne and you sent to 1NRuicKk5Hk8addVjVVfZcaxE1y9FNjUkk ?
If it's the case then as I said the problem should be on the receiver part (client not sync with the network) or he is actually lying about it , because this is a proof that his address does contain the bitcoin that you sent : https://blockchain.info/fr/address/1NRuicKk5Hk8addVjVVfZcaxE1y9FNjUkk (If it's his address) .

correct: this is my address and the receiver address i sent btc. the receiver claims that he did not receive for 100%.

Is it possible that you accidentally sent to the wrong address?  Are you certain that the address that the receiver told you to send to is 1NRuicKk5Hk8addVjVVfZcaxE1y9FNjUkk?

Is it possible that you sent the wrong amount of bitcoins?  Are you certain that the amount of bitcoins that you agreed to send was 0.33319215 BTC?

If the receiver told you to send 0.33319215 BTC to 1NRuicKk5Hk8addVjVVfZcaxE1y9FNjUkk, then the receiver has received their bitcoins.  They either have a problem with their own wallet that they need to fix, or they are lying to you.  That address has received 0.33319215 BTC on 2015-11-28 at 17:56:19 UTC.

OP, there exist viruses that check the clipboard for bitcoin addresses and change the address you have copied in clipboard. That might have happened on your side or on the side of the seller. So always check the first and last signs of the address you use, best to check some digits in between too.

Oh crap i never though of that. Seriously. Thats hella clever and low profile. I always check the first and last bits of the address i paste, for different reasons. I'd now recommend to anyone to start doing it now as an acquired automatism, just for that.

Also use two way firewalls.

2087  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: New guy to mining, where to start on: November 30, 2015, 02:43:26 AM
Hello everyone,

I came here the first time in 2013, but had alot to do in that year, so now i am finally back.

I have been looking into Bitcoin mining for several years now, but never really made it into mining anything, i once had some software that did run a miner for me, but that was a long time ago now, i have tried several programs now, but none of them supports a Nvidia Geforce 970, so i canīt even mine from my GPU, besides i have also heard that it would take million of years that way, so my actual question was more,

1) What do i need to solo mine? Since i have seen it being more popular these days to solo mine, i think it would be the best for me

2) What software could you guys recommend using?

3) I have been looking into hardware, at this stage of my life, spending 1000$ on a device for solo mining would be way too much, but less could do.

Thanks in advance.

You cannot mine Bitcoin with GPU's anymore, you're a few years too late sadly.

To solo mine as a very low chance lottery-style, you would need to buy a USB ASIC miner like the sidehack stick and run the miner.

To solo mine for real, you would need much, much more than 1000$ as initial investment. 1000$ is like a peanut compared to how much hardware you need nowadays.
2088  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Factory pre-installed malware threaten Bitcoin users and privacy on: November 30, 2015, 02:40:59 AM
Confirmed pre-installed factory app on an unbranded MTK device that did steal my DATA folder including encrypted wallets, the app was a flashlight that can read:

Contacts
SD card
Microphone
network
gps

and literally it had permission for everything including NFC which I don't even have on phone, so it's a universal app that factory install on all of their devices.

This is a warning to anyone with unbranded phone that even if you be-careful and not install apps or malware it can be already on your phone from the factory.

The origin of this phone is a small brand from India manufactured in china, and no I am not on any of those countries this was imported here by merchants.

I would recommend you to read permissions for any of the apps that you suspect, also install network monitor and check which applications are using the network.

in my case the pre loaded flashlight was very active, since I am rooted I was able to trace an IP, the data was not even encrypted so thx god my wallet backups are, all data was being passed through port 80, which is a common port not only for web browsing but also for most botnets, because who is gonna suspect or block it? so yeah it's an HTTP botnet.
I will analyze the internals of the app to figure out more, for now I have frozen the app.

Again, please don't trust unbranded phones, I wonder how many was ripped off their wallets or personal information from this method.

I'd like some more information. So the phone came with malicious access software and what you did was put wallet software on it, or did it used as a backdoor to your internal network to access your computer, that has your wallet on it?

The wallet is on the phone, but I noticed strange activity, high internet usage, battery dies fast so I decided to check what's going on and started monitoring each program and how much data it uses, than I started sniffing the app which was a "LED flash".

Another thing, it was using port 80 to communicate with the server, please note that the LED flash needs no internet, have no ads, and is a system app that is spouses to have only one permission "Control LED and maximum it would have take pictures permission for compatibility with some phones", this one had all permissions you could ever imagine on a phone, there was permissions I never seen such as "Start and stop wimax communications" WTF is that an LED flash? really?

Okay, thanks. I don't put BTC on my cellphone, so i just wanted to make sure it didnt go beyond that.

I'm guessing its just named that way so that a newbie overlook it as the flash for the phone.
2089  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: How do you get free power? on: November 30, 2015, 02:19:22 AM
Power is never free. If you are getting free power. Somebody is paying for it.

Could be your landowner, your boss or some unknown person. Make sure you are not misusing (stealing power).

Wrong. There are several way to pay a flat or fix cost and then afterwards not pay more for how much you are consuming. If you don't pay more for mining, then you do not pay for the quantity you use for mining and it is thus free.

In this world is so impossible to have a free power.

Well if you are a CEO of a power company than you have free power xD

See my previous comment, its not because everything has its cost or requirement that you need to pay for your electricity rate consumption
2090  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: [ORWL] Keep your bitcoin safe on: November 30, 2015, 02:15:49 AM
I'm guessing like any vault, it will be possible to be cracked, since nothing in uncrackable. But it could be fun to use, however it is too expensive.

It kind of sound like something you'd use as a semi toy, since for anything of significant worth, having a self erasing encrypted computer contain it is not really the way to go.

If the question was how many $5 rPi ZERO's do you need to mine btc then, surely, the answer is just one NOT cpu mining is dead. Is it worth it? Beauty lies in the eye of the beholder .... usb stick or rPi ZERO ... both have an equal chance of finding a block but the rPi ZERO has the added advantage of being re-useable.
Anyone who says cpu mining is dead is simply being narrow-minded.

And you're wrong. The question was how many RPI0 to be able to mine a mBTC. If you want to go with the lottery route, there is also better ways to go at it, that both cost less for the hardware and less electricity to run.

Its not a narrow minded thing, its just a fact; mining with CPU is a phase that is over.

You can argue that in our times, it is still possible to cross the sea with a galleon by hiring many people and only using arm power over the course of many weeks.

Sure okay its not impossible... but you could just use a ship with an engine or you know, a plane. Thats why its not done anymore.

It is up now, just checked. Hope they will finally improve their security or whatever it take to we avoid those down times. I use it only for small transactions, but anyway it is annoying and i will think about better solution.

Blockchain.info has been "bad" for a long time now. Its unstable, poor API, lots of problems with it. I'm not sure why its so popular considering there are more popular and stable services out there.

I am pretty sure the Diff will go under what its estimated at right now, but i don't know by how much, seeing how well the BTC price is doing.
2095  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Guide] Dogie's Comprehensive Bitmain Antminer S7 Setup [HD] on: November 30, 2015, 01:55:34 AM
Its working, however this damn thing stops hashing every few hours and needs to be restarted

Are you able to connect when it stops mining?

I don't think 1300W is good enough for an antminer, especially when beginners are present.

I'm running 2 different power supplies (RM850 Corsair and Quark 750 Rosewill) and they're doing perfectly. My rig runs at about 1KW (Batch 6) and the PSU doing 2 hashing boards isn't even breaking a sweat (RM850).

I'm also monitoring power to make sure each PSU runs on less than 80% power.

But on to my question: What do you think about the new Batch 6 and Batch 8 miners, with the giant Buck Converter on it? What's the reason for this, and how might it affect efficiency and stability?

1300w EVGA G2 is absolutely fine. Its power is very clean/stable. It even has some leeway for a bit of overclocking and the 10 years warranty on the PSU make this pick a no brainer; If you want the best PSU to do the job, this one is it.

Second picks would be server PSU's since they cost less for the same job.
2096  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: News of a mini RasPi for 5$ How could this change bitcoin mining? on: November 30, 2015, 01:52:03 AM
I have to agree, cpu mining is not dead by any objective measure, btc included, though you will never ROI if doing it on a pool. But who knows, with btc you may find a block solo mining and of-course with alt coins you never know where the price is headed.

No, it is dead. 100% dead and that is the right answer here.

The question there was "How many of these (RasPI0) would you need to mine BTC, it should be worth it because they are so cheap." and that is just plain not the case. If you want something small and cheap to mine BTC, its going to be a Sidehack stick. Maybe something like a pod miner.

TLDR: RasPI0, definitively not for mining BTC. Acting as a controller, yes.
2097  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Verifying Amounts on: November 30, 2015, 01:48:51 AM
I was reading through the forums and found that if I go to block chain or something I can verify that that person has the amount that I am looking for.  Can someone please let me know how to do this.  Here is a copy and paste of the info I am wondering how to verify:

3) Ask for his coin address and always search it on blockchain.info or www.cryptocoinexplorer.com to verify if his address has the amounts he is claiming.

Thank you all in advance for the assistance.

You need to get the address he claims he owns. Then you can check on a blockexplorer how many coins that address contains. But that is not enough since he could tell you a random address he doesn't own.

You might either ask him to send you a satoshi from that address as proof that he owns the address or ask him for a signature signed with that address. You can check that signature then at http://wallet-2sx53n.sakurity.com/#verify and make sure that the address he signed with is the one he claims to own.

If you did so then you can be sure that he really owns these coins.

Not that proof of ownership is a very good system for building trust. No trust should be given until proper dealing happened. Until then, use escrow.
2098  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Antminer S7 and EVGA SuperNOVA 1300 G2 proper cabling on: November 30, 2015, 01:44:39 AM
Maybe I'm confused but it's my understanding that each of the three blades needs 3 plugs so 9 are needed for the blades then 1 is needed for the controller for a total of 10.  You are correct that the PSU came with two cables that split 1 to 2, but that only gets me to 8 total.  Do I use extra splitters on two of the other cables?  Also does it matter which ones numbered 1 through 6 that I split (e.g. only split alternating or even numbered slots)?

No they're all in the same rail. And no, Bitmain says you need all 3 per blade (for their warranty to apply) but its honestly a design overkill. Sound like a move to get people to buy their PSU.

Plug all 3 if you want, but 2 with good cables, sust as EVGA's, it is more than enough.

Get Y Splitter from here on the forum, they're like 2.5$ each. I'm not sure using them is any safer than just 2 cable, but the warranty rules are the warranty rules i guess?

And i would not use perif to power a blade. Only using 2 plugs would be much better than this.

You can do it for the controller however, though don't do it with SATA, do it with Molex, ideally 2 Molex to one PCI-e.
2099  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Antminer S7 and EVGA SuperNOVA 1300 G2 proper cabling on: November 29, 2015, 10:28:27 PM
TL;DR first... Exactly what ports & adapters do I use on the EVGA 1300 to get to 10 PCIE connections since it only comes with wiring for 8 PCIE?

Now the longer version...

I just received my first miner the S7 (batch 6) and based on popular feedback got the the EVGA SuperNOVA 1300 G2 power supply to go with it.  Now that I have everything I am curious which plugs I'm supposed to use on the PSU.  There are 6 red plugs labeled VGA, and various others labeled SATA, CPU, and PERIF.  I see various posts saying to use PCI-E splitters (PCIEXSPLIT6 6-Inch PCI Express Power Splitter Cable) and/or molex adapters (LP4 to 6 Pin PCI Express Video Card Power Cable Adapter), but wanted to make sure I'm using the appropriate combination to avoid issues.  It's too expensive of a machine to take a trial and error approach.

I know that the VGA ports are the PCI-E ports so my assumption is that I'm either supposed to use the 6 VGA plugs with several splitters or possibly a combination of the 6 VGA plugs and the two PERIF plugs with molex adapters.  I just want some confirmation or validation on the best approach to using this power supply without the risk of overloading the PSU or wires.

For what it's worth I am in the US and I currently have my setup running to a dedicated 20 amp circuit that I ran with 12 gauge wire, but it's only running with 2 boards since that's all I could get running safely without starting to use splitters.

Thanks in advance for your feedback.  I really appreciate all the posts I've been reading on this forum to get me as far as I've gotten having only started this yesterday.

You could use a perif to power the controller, but with the 1300 i received i received a couple of dual connector cables, so you should not need to mess around that much.

Just with the 6 vga 1 to 1 cable you'd have enough to power the 3 blades.

If you want to use all 9 connectors then use those dual cables.

What about poor people that realized that they can start living a normal life if they start mining Bitcoin?

It doesn't matter too much if you start with a lot of money or not, considering the potential profitability of Bitcoins future, it scale well across the spectrum.

People with a little money can make a little more and people with a lot of money can make a lot more.
