2103  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Looks like ASIC's have been deployed on: October 27, 2012, 05:36:11 PM
I cannot possibly imagine an additional 3-4 TH of GPU's or fpga's have been started up in the past week or so.

It has always seemed weird to me that these hardware companies would not pre-mine before selling.

This community is willing to throw money at anyone for months in advance just to gain an edge.

This mentality falls right into someone who would want to take your capital and then use it against you.

Coupled with some recent big sell orders on Mt Gox, and it seems to me someone is unloading some coins.

Of course this could be some people with stashes unloading, but it seems to be an odd coincidence.

I'd say we have ASIC miners out there and they are taking advantage of the 50 BTC blocks before they're gone.

Seem odd to anyone that nearly ALL asic devices will be hitting the market AFTER the reward halving ?

This is fishy as hell to me.

If it was a GPU / FPGA farm, it was set up really in a jiffy. I would lean more towards ASIC beta testing (read. Earning Opportunity) Wink

Trying to find info is like pulling teeth lol!  It looks a bit bare but its actually fully featured and the spacing on the pci express for video cards is better than 90% of board I usually find.

What kind of info do you need about this mobo?. I had this mobo paired with a C2DX for around 2 years.

MOTHERBOARDS

Intel Motherboard D975X BX2

It's the Intel Bad Axe 2, very good mobo in its time, esp for the 65nm Core 2 CPUs.

2108  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Maximum output I can use from a power supply? on: October 23, 2012, 03:26:56 AM
I have this power supply : OCZ Z series gold 850w

Can I really use the full 850 watts from the 12 volts continuously or I'm asking for trouble?

What is the maximum power I should use if I want to be on the safe side and lowering the chance of breaking it?

It's 80Plus Gold, it's 88% efficient @ 100% load. So it will dissipate 116Watts at max load. It's almost as much a vanilla 80Plus 650W PSU.
Make sure the PSU is well vented at max load, and use a P3 Killawatt to meter the input load, and never exceed 966Watts.
2109  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: How about some proof from BFL? on: October 23, 2012, 03:20:59 AM
I'm reminded of "birthers" at the moment.

How about a bounty?

Items are slowly selling and / or being put back into service. The thread has been updated again to reflect this.

Is the antenna avl? Can you please tell me if the connector male or female? Will it fit a alfa usb wifi card?
I mean is The connector Something like this http://cdn101.iofferphoto.com/img3/item/524/236/467/l_0q1e2329-1pcs-rp-sma-2-4-ghz-9dbi-wifi-booster-wireless-ant.jpg

Are you based in US? If yes, will you sell Rig #2 for USD 200300? I can pay via BTC or Paypal. (edit. corrected typo in price)
2115  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Successfully fixing Radeon HD 5850 with burnt capacitors on: October 21, 2012, 02:33:39 AM
What kinda testing did you do to ensure that the caps were the only problem...and what caused the burnt caps? Plus I think you got lucky in just replacing the caps.

As I mentioned the capacitors were glowing red due to heat! and subsequently burnt out. It's called looking at the obvious symptoms first. Using a DMM, the measured resistance across the chip caps was ~ 5Ohms. Obviously caps are supposed to block DC, not conduct Wink

Here take a look at this thread, it's a common problem with reference 5850. My guess is that the caps are faulty, and they produce a short circuit after many hours of usage.
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=101624.0

I not only replaced the caps but two 0.01Ohm resistors feeding the rails, as well, since the caps had shorted out and subsequently the resistors had burnt out as well.

Does anyone know when/if a low profile Radeon HD 7xxx series card will/might be released.  It's not really for bitcoin mining but for a nettop but I might do a bit of litecoin mining on it for fun.  I'm after a passive cooled one so is not worth waiting for a 7450 and probably should just get the 6450  Huh

There are a bunch of single slot cards 7750

There not 'low-profile' cards.
I never said they were. I just wanted to help you with single slot mining cards, since I did not find a low profile 77xx!

Hope it helps someone, may even work for other HD5xxx cards.

My Radeon 5850 took the dive!
Two decoupling capacitors at the back of the board were literally glowing red and were burnt out, por que AMD!

The card was showing up in windows, and drivers loaded correctly. Could not run cgminer, as the system would just become unresponsive with dead screen.

Anyways after removing the heatsink, I realised that two phases of the VRM were dead and not just the decoupling capacitors, but two 0.01Ohm Chip resistors feeding the +ve rail of the VRM phases were dead as well.

So here are the parts that I replaced / fixed (Access to parts with 'I', need the heatsink to be removed)

Ia) MR524 0.01Ohm replaced with 2 thin strands of copper wire
Ib) R527 replaced with 2 thin strands of copper wire
Oc) C510, C520, replaced with chip capacitors  (should tolerate 12V or more)
Od) C527, C529, replaced with chip capacitors (should tolerate 12V or more)

You can easily find donor devices for the chip capacitors such as DSL modems, Cooling fans, dead PSU, etc. Make sure it's rated for 12V.

I did a hasty job (was planning to ebay the card), and didn't have liquid flux, so the soldering job was a bit shoddy, but it can be more elegant.
