Dhoni vs Kohli! What a way to kickoff IPL 2024. This is most probably Dhoni's final season which is probably why CSK is playing against RCB instead of GT in the first match of the season.

It will be interesting seeing both teams play thanks to several new additions. Hope MSD bats in the middle order instead of the lower order this time around.
Aha, it's still Kohli vs X, Kohli vs Y. I feel bad for Faf lol, even in some footage I've seen from the RCB unboxing event it looked like Kohli took center stage, which is technically reserved for the captain.

Also, news is coming up that Gaikwad is the new captain of CSK. Thala will fill out the entertainment quota.

Good on you pakhitheboss. Consider me in, I'll try to be active here.

Just a suggestion, you could use an official IPL site for the info, instead of espncricinfo, quite a useful site for all sorts of stats, venues, squads etc.

The sad affair of Women's cricket continues. Not sure if anyone is aware of that but this Bangladesh W vs Australia W didn't attract any broadcasters.

It's not the first time Ban vs Aus series messed up due to no broadcasters and I don't know who's at fault here BCB providers or the Aussie broadcasters, but they ended up streaming the match on YouTube and possibly a full series. For Indian viewers, it's on FAN CODE because they had full media rights for Bong's home season.

Sophie Devine (NZ W team's skipper) gave an interview recently. She raised a valid point about a smaller population. It does play its part in Men's cricket but the situation is tougher for Women.

She pointed out how the New Zealand W cricket team is struggling, in the sense of bench strength and not enough talent coming up from the domestic, compared to Aus, Eng and Ind.

Makes sense. The New Zealand men's team produced high quality cricketers over the years despite the small population and some of them proved to be some of the best gentlemen cricketers ever.

I don't know much about the New Zealand women's team, but they will produce more quality cricketers too with time just like their male counterparts.
Rugby and Netball get a cream and the one who failed to make it into these 2 sports gets into cricket. of course, some genuine interest is there in women's cricket but it's not in bulk.

They have more or less the same problem in Men's cricket but they are already producing fine cricketers with limited resources and a fair amount of players from SA(including from India) do prefer moving there, it helps the cricketing system.

After the T-20 series loss Bangladesh's skipper said that Sri lanka never recovered from the so called "time out" incident. He was referring to the Shakib-Mattews controversy followed by Srilankan's celebration of "Timeout" after winning the T-20 series.

And today Mushi Babu did a cameo during the ceremony, which was funny for the neutrals but not for the Bangalesh's skipper, if we go by his previous statement. I love it anyway lol because it's damn funny.

Well if I remember correctly, Sri Lanka also did something after winning the t20 series. They pointed at their wrists while celebrating. And I think it is actually true that Sri Lanka really never recovered from that psychological hit. Sri Lanka is also taking Bangladesh as the number one rival in my opinion.

It was started by a Bangladesh seamer in the 1st or 2nd T-20 match when he got the early wicket, SL won that match and the T-20 series, then they reacted with the time-out gesture in return.

The Bangladeshi skipper's remark was correct but then comes a most senior member of the team Mushfiqur and does the same and proves his skipper wrong.

One funny news regarding Sri Lankan all rounder Hasaranga.

After playing just 4 test matches, the dude took an early retirement. Recently he backtracked on his retirement and made himself available for test format, the funny part is as soon as he came back in the test scene. He was slapped with 2 match ban because he earned extra demerit points in the recently concluded ODI series.

Hasaranga handed two-Test ban after coming out of retirement

Quote
During the third ODI in the recently-concluded series against Bangladesh, Hasaranga was found guilty of breaching article 2.8 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to "showing dissent at an Umpire's decision during an International Match."

The incident occurred in the 37th over of the game when Hasaranga snatched his cap from one of the umpires and ridiculed the umpiring in the match. Bangladesh took the series 2-1 after winning the contest by four wickets.

Different people have different opinions on this, which is fair, and nothing wrong with it.

For me, everything is good and gets a green light as long as no physical confrontations or vandalism are involved. For example, I am only following this tour because of drama. These kinds of banter and poking each other bring spicy stuff to the game and we need more of it, more so in Test cricket.
I wasn't even aware something like this happened. I remember the whole snake shit between them, but they are just embarassing themselves by doing more of this crap again and again.

It's all funny for sure, but such childish stuff rubs many, many people the wrong way. There are far better ways to entertain viewers in comparison.
Arey who Nidahas Trophy wale naagin dance ko 6 saal ho gaye hai. In a recent ODI WC Mathews was given out because of timed-out rule because Shakib was aware of the ICC rule and he used it nicely.

It became a meme and added another chapter to the Bongs vs Lankan cricketing rivalry. It's not going to stop anytime soon, i just wish these guys become a little bit more consistent against other teams as well.

To be frank, I don't support this kind of celebration. It was funny there, but this kind of celebration will create more hate between the two teams. These are the reasons why people don't address cricket as the gentlemen game anymore. The senior player should have taken steps to stop these messy celebration, but Mushi did the opposite yesterday. Anyway, it could have been a bit difficult for Bangladesh to win the match without the unexpected powerful performance of Rishad Hossain.

~snip~
BCCI has the capability to even influence ICC and make changes in the rules that may restrict players from migrating but I guess they won't do unless the individual hurts someone's ego in the BCCI table.

[/quote]
I'm afraid that's not right on many counts. People migrate for a better life, better opportunities etc and Professional athletes are no different.

BGT is scheduled in Dec this year but look at how CA gets on with the scheduling. They already fixed the venue for all 5 test matches. Tickets should also be available soon and in contrast, look at how BCCI conducts these arrangements.

Bangladesh team is known for doing that and if I am not wrong it escalated to ugly level when they won against India but SL team's reply is the actual way to silence and opposition by winning against them and forcing them to feel how it will be.
According to every pundit or fan, It's a meme rivalry, not ugly or cringe but pure entertainment with lols and giggles.  Grin Recently some journalists even did a story on it.

A fair amount of tension and seriousness between both teams (Bongs in particular) but everything looks funny to neutral fans even to some Lankan spectators.

How come it became a Day match, I thought they had their timing set for the series decider.

Looks like a bad scheduling to me. You got your wish of no dead rubber match but it's a working day and that too in the morning. Who will fill the stand and many people not even watch live on telly. This should've been fixed to the weekend, that's how you generate some sort of revenue.

It looks very odd to have an ODI in day light. 2nd ODI was played on 15 March and 3rd ODI should be on 17 March or Sunday but strangely they didn't schedule the match on Sunday.
Things looking not much good for Sri Lanka at the moment, they have lost 7 batsmen and score is 172 in 40 overs. Score predictor telling that Sri Lanka will give a target of 215 and that wont be difficult to chase. Both matches in this series are won by side batting second.
IMO, irresponsible attitude and the kind of negligence shown here are the major reasons many cricketing boards keep failing to sustain their financial system.

You got a home series and both teams are playing good cricket, it's poised well with a scoreline of 1-1. You have to make a spectacle out of it, instead, they are playing in front of empty stands. It tells you more about how many cricket boards are only interested in freeloading.

^^ Delhi is playing a collapsing game. 63/0 and lost 7 wickets in the next 24 runs, some fine collapse is in progress.

Now there is a possibility that RCBW might break the chain and win the trophy before RCBM. So much pressure on Koach and the company.

IPL 2024 theme released — https://twitter.com/StarSportsIndia/status/1768963439442227458

First impression is good, I'd rate it 7/10, it'll likely grow over me after repeatedly hearing it.

This dream11 ad is also lit: https://twitter.com/Dream11/status/1768521645034197349, RCB one was my favorite.

Now, I do feel the hype!
They could've done this as well. This kind of meme had the potential to break Indian Twitter for a day or two.  Grin Grin

RCB vs DC coming up! The big finale. Am excited for this one since this particular season has been very entertaining thanks to some great performances from almost all teams in my opinion.

Am expecting DC to win the final though I am supporting RCB. Let's see what happens.
Some appreciation words on Harmanpreet Kaur.

Good batter and a fine tactician as a skipper but one of the shitty leader. Always dodge responsibility when a team fails and throw youngsters under the bus.

Haha after 92 overs, finally some spicy stuff. Please need more of this drama and ffs manufacture some fight. After all, match is on the line lol

For context, there was a potential collapse (between bowler Shoriful Islam and striker Wellalage) but sadly it was a poorly written script so no controversial runout. At least a few words were exchanged.  Wink

Bangladesh are playing cricket for quite a while now and there performance is still slightly better then an associate team. They are always ready to create drama, remember there legend Shakib getting Mathews out using timed out rule that was never used before. Sri Lanka have nothing much to worry about as this game is very much in there control, need 13 runs in 24 balls.

To be fair to Shoriful, it wasn't his mistake. He didn't see the Wellalage and was only watching the ball. Both parties were innocent and not guilty but the young Lankan had to spit it out anyway because he could've been run out and probably injured.

And it's 1-1 now, no relevance to this series because of the T-20 WC but at least it's alive and the setup is building up nicely for the next 3 matches. I hope it is not a win the toss and win the match scenario for the rest of the series because of dew.

I feel, that Srilanka is starting to dominate this middle phase of the inning, this pair is about to change gears and that partnership could be dangerous for the Bongs, they already stitched 100 runs partnership.

Guess, it won't be a bad idea if Taskin and Shoriful come back for a short spell and try to get a breakthrough.
260  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: T20 and T20I cricket prediction and discussion on: March 15, 2024, 02:31:49 PM
RCB under huge pressure as they just lose their 3rd wicket, Perry-Richa on crease atm, and these two aren't looking comfortable playing shots either, but then again this pair is only where RCB and their fans can put their hope upon. Kasat gaveaway her wicket.
Perry should do a Kohli and become the sankatmochan for the RCB and then go on to lose the match. IMO this would be the peak RCB moment.  Grin

I have to say, RCB does have a mad fan following. Doesn't matter if it's Women's or Men's RCB. Fans always turn up for this franchise and pack the stadium.
