I gotta say, the SEC causing a mass liquidation event right before announcing their decision on the ETF approval is something I didn’t see coming but is intriguing nonetheless. I wonder if crypto traders that got liquidated have a case against the SEC for their “hacked” tweet and also if it was a hack at all.
This puts SEC in a pickle. If they planned to approve, then they would look somewhat strange if they approve in 24 hr after denying the "leak" today. Sometimes important information leaks, but typically markets just go with it (I distinctly remember some rate decisions being leaked early). Maybe I am just making a mountain out of the molehill and everything would go as expected tomorrow...

Some dude on the tube just said that he expects ETFs trade at premium to bitcoin at first, maybe as much as 8%. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XUG1iZtcCmoIf so, then GBTC NAV at the closing (with btc at $45065 at 4m) was theoretically $40.16, but the last trade was at $39, which is "just" 2.9% discount to NAV and it "ought" to jump 3-11% at the start of trading (add or subtract to this the price change of btc). Several conclusions: 1. If GBTC (or other ETFs, like the Swedish one) will start trading at the premium, I will think of dumping GBTC in my nontaxable ROTH accounts, collecting premium and buying "straight" btc with the proceeds. The risk is that the market can move away from me while I transfer the funds between the accounts, darn it! 2. One can only imagine the amount of fleecing retail investor would endure if they have to pay 8% (or more) premium to the underlying. GBTC used to have up to 40% premium at one point. 3. I can imagine the trade evolving, like buying bitcoin while shorting the etf as premium would eventually disappear. None of it is an investment advice, just some thoughts.

Chopper is getting out of the dark slowly but steadily well my 47075 ladder up sold next one is set for 49432 I don't want to judge, but as @jjg says... surely...the values in the ladder don't have to stay fixed and could/should be adjusted from time to time. That said, it could be a good move (or not), we shall see.

OT Beckenbauer...RIP, at 78. Won World Cup (in football, known in US as soccer) in 1974, I believe. Once (in a 1970 WC semifinal against Italy) he played with a broken collar bone put on his side with a duck tape (they ran out of subs). Position: first a midfielder, then a sweeper/libero/attacking defender Nickname Der Kaiser (The Emperor).

All bitcoin ETF fees in one place: https://www.reuters.com/technology/companies-disclose-expected-fees-spot-bitcoin-etfs-ahead-sec-decision-2024-01-08/from 0 (for 6 mo), then many 0.24-0.39%, Grayscle is a current oulier at 1.5%. I guess they will see if they would be able to keep most of their funds. Tickers: Grayscale-GBTC (same) Ark/21shares-ARKB Blackrock- IBIT (not IBTC-that was the initial intent, but replaced later), fee 0.3%, but no fee for the first 12 mo-choice #2 for me. Bitwise-BITB (these are the guys who pretend to know Satoshi, lol) vanEck-HODL (love it! plus they give 5% to bitcoin developers and have a 0.25% fee-a potential winner for me, depending on whether they would get volume) Fidelity (Wise origin)-FBTC Valkyrie-BRRR (lol) the rest: hashdex is DEFI, not sure if the name/ticker is even relevant. EDIT...went over 10K posts...jeee. EDIT2...everything (tickers, fees, sponsors) in one place: https://twitter.com/BitcoinMagazine/status/1744352669362250076/photo/1

BTC ETF fees A fee "war"...nice. Since most came down to 0.25%-0.3% the next step in differentiation would be who would accumulate the assets faster and also, who would have OPTIONS established for their product first. IMHO, GBTC would slowly bleed assets as their fee is the highest by a lot.

You can see how liquidity is draining from alts (many are down 10-20% in 24hr), almost like a tide is going out before a huge bitcoin wave will hit ashore. My body is ready... I think

Nice...tell us more about a "supercomputer" Going from keys on Wednesday to paying off mortgage at 130K...wow. It totally makes sense to pay off a 6-7% mortgage, though..as long as it's only a portion (or a small portion) of your bitcoin. <snip> The pc will be with the latest components, like cpu intel 14900kf, 192G RAM, 3SSD, Nvidia 4090, water cooled case. The funny part is that the girl from the bank asked a lot of stupid questions for approval of the loan, like "for what will you use the computer?". I said "For checking my email." This answer obviously didn't satisfy her and she went on and on, and I was giving the most ridiculous answers I could figure out. Nice! 4090 is a 'beast" of a card. EDIT: Imho, the proper answer to the question "What you will be using the computer for? " is: "For computing/computations" .

BTC granny Her and all the taxi drivers are waiting for it to pop at 69K into no mans land, then they bet the farm. In her case probably more like a social security payment... In a phat voice.... "Do it!" Gensler knows...SEC released the "Avoid the FOMO" message. I wonder: where they have been in 2000 or in 2006-2007?

Years ago when I noticed my blood sugar starting to rise, I cut out all sugars and starchy foods like potatoes, rice, bread, cakes, cookies, candies, etc. I started using stevia in my morning coffee. It soon started bugging me though because it gave me a funny feeling in my mouth and made me drool. I reverted to a single spoonful of pure cane sugar in my coffee. Within a few months I'd lost 30lb and when I asked my doctor how my blood sugar was, she replied, "remarkably better, in fact better than mine". I later did some research and found an article from the University of California medical school explaining the glycemic chemistry of fructose and how it affects our blood sugar levels, and hence diabetes. It seems fructose is really a poison but nature provides an antidote in the form of fiber. Unfortunately most commercially available fruit juices have had all the fiber filtered out of them. Almost all soft drinks except pure soda water contain a particularly unhealthy ingredient called high-fructose corn syrup or glucose-fructose without any fiber. Fructose is sweeter than sucrose so sleazy businesses can save a buck by using a smaller (and thus cheaper) amount of fructose in their products than they would with real cane or beet sugar. At least in Mexico they still use real cane sugar in their Coca-Cola. I'm not at my principle residence where I have access to the article I'm citing but if I get a chance I'll post a link. TLDR- Stevia's OK but real cane sucrose is better. Yep...this explains it in detail: https://www.eufic.org/en/whats-in-food/article/what-is-glucose-fructose-syrup-qaWeight-wise, fructose is indeed 1.2-1.8 times sweeter than sucrose, albeit sucrose is basically glucose and fructose molecules bonded together by a chemical bond called glycosidic linkage. As the cited article describes, it is different in what is called glucose-fructose or fructose-glucose, which are made from starch. That glucose-fructose is being added almost everywhere (especially in processed foods), though, so it is hard to "escape" from it being consumed by almost everyone.

Good to know...I am planning to slowly sell some of my money market funds into bitcoin ETFs in my IRAs (as we go from currently "lucrative" 5.4% to 4-4.5% interest in 2024, presumably). I was leaning toward Invesco or Fidelity before, but now will give VanEck a look, for sure. My money market funds are just a portfolio stabilizer...and now I want to "destabilize" it a bit, ha ha. I suppose from experience you might know that you are going to have several options, and I imagine that some employers offer 401ks or various kinds of funds to employees, but they might not have very many options... .. It would be interesting to here what kinds of options that people have, and historically various kinds of government 401ks have not had any options for ETFs, and they have ONLY offered various kinds of index funds, so it will be interesting to see if some employers might start to offer more kinds of options in the funds that are available to the employees. 401a/k/b are usually limited..I have a couple, but they only offer index or sector funds..no fun, basically. However, when you switch jobs, you can roll those funds from 401a/k/b into an IRA, tax free, and in IRA you may have everything, including foreign (Canadian, for example) securities (including ETFs) and even options.

As for caffeine intake, I take plenty. Not from coffee, but from Coca-Cola. I'm almost ashamed to say it, but I'm addicted to it. It's of the "Zero" variety, so there are no calories, but there is caffeine (and other chemicals). I think I may have become immune to it by now, I don't sense any caffeine effect by drinking or not drinking coffee, as long as I take my daily fix of Coke.
There may be zero calories in Coke Zero but the artificial sweeteners in diet/zero drinks are more difficult for our body to process. It's advisable to take carbonated drinks as little as possible. Advised by whom..again? This is a "legend", nothing more. In short, it is not carbonation, but the other "stuff". https://www.scripps.org/news_items/5224-are-carbonated-beverages-harming-your-health“While soda and other carbonated drinks have been associated with negative health effects, carbonation is not harmful in and of itself,”

How do y'all take your coffee when chart watching? I usually do a sugar and splash or milk/heavy whipping cream but Im out of sugar! So I did manage to find a bag of brown sugar and tried it. To my surprise it pairs well!
With sugar and milk. And drugs.Fun fact: I’ve never had coffee. I did have a neighbor growing up who used to drink his coffee with mushrooms in the morning. I thought that was weird until I got older. This could be the last week without an ETF approval. I feel like there’s a good chance we could see a massive price swing next week. There will certainly be big news one way or the other. Since caffeine is considered a drug, anyone who drinks coffee everyday is technically a drug addict. Good on you for staying clean Mushrooms and coffee? I don't think my stomach could keep that down. Caffeine is considered a drug only because in some people it acts as a CNS stimulant. For example, they can't sleep shortly after drinking a cup of coffee. Personally, I have absolutely ZERO stimulus from drinking coffee, so I drink it mostly for taste and/or with food. However, caffeine is known for many other positives: 1. you could live longer (duh!) 2. less likely to develop type 2 diabetes 3. less likely to develop Parkinson's 3. decrease risk of colon cancer, stroke and Alzheimer's 4. less likely to develop heart failure source for above: https://www.hopkinsmedicine.org/health/wellness-and-prevention/9-reasons-why-the-right-amount-of-coffee-is-good-for-youon balance: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC8467199/I know at least a couple negatives too: not good for younger children and Meniere's disease (causing vertigo and tinnitus) sufferers.

~snipas avatar-szed it looks like this Originally, I only made this one and only in this size: I think all the corners I cut have now come back to bite me (only wrt hats though) Very nice! One comment- in avatar size bitcoin word is not very clear, although it is great on original. I wonder if it is possible to increase contrast somehow (when it is an avatar size)? Thanks for the tip! Is this better? Definitely!
