i dunno bob is a pretty careful guy

hmm, maybe, but he is playing with us just like proudhon...all those fake snake penises, shiny schlongs and strange mutterings.
I could only imagine what would be posted on WO when btc is $1 mil or even $10 mil.
Everyone would probably have an "army" of AI-driven avatars by then.

Got email from Coinbase saying that "if you sent your bitcoin for them to sell, then they would produce tax documents for you where they would be indicating the "base/cost" as ZERO", with a lame excuse of not knowing what it cost you (instead of indicating the value of bitcoin when they GOT IT).

For 2022 it is still not covered by automatic reporting (like stocks), but if next year they will start...and that was in some of laws that already passed, and then many of us would have huge problems, potentially, as they will report your sale price and your imaginary "cost" at ZERO to the three letter dudes.

since i send in a form 8949 with all cost basis and sells why would that matter? i assume coinbase has always sent all data they have already whether they admit or not.

Yes, and this is how it was with stocks before too: brokerage sent you your sells info, and then you filled the cost of stocks yourself, as you and myself still do on 8949, but NOW they are trying to implement the "automatic" system (similar to the one currently giving you the bottom line of all your stock trades) where they will send both sells and costs, theoretically, but they have no clue about the cost, so they SAY that they will send you ZEROES as costs, which you would have to modify by yourself manually, increasing the probability of an audit. Of course, if you have all the docs, then audit is just a technicality, but it would still consume some time, right?

TL;DR It is one thing to NOT get a form (as of now where you fill 8949 manually) and another  is to get an ERRONEOUS form and then "modify" it. The difference is glaring (to me).

have to slap buddy again and again.

there are 39 million people in the 60-69 year old slot

https://www.statista.com/statistics/241488/population-of-the-us-by-sex-and-age/#

54 million 60 to 74

21 million 60-64

18 million 65-69

15 million 70-74

even if you only count 60 to 66 as ‘the eligible’ work force

its over 12 million and lots of them are idle waiting to 66 to get full benefits.

EDIT: wow, it looks like late boomers numbers exceed the earlier; I thought it is the opposite.

Bottom line, in US, many companies simply fired workers over 60 before (hence the idleness between 60 and 66 where many live on savings and whatnot). It did not happen to me because I am currently at a job where employers do not do this, but I know quite a few examples from friends and family. I guess, at 60 they were making almost twice as much as a newly hired 25-30 year old would cost...and they were less "dynamic" so to speak.

The funny thing, now employers are trying to hire older workers again because they are anecdotally "more reliable"-don't come to work late and don't get pregnant (sorry, ladies).
It's almost a trend.

OT: Raynaud's Syndrome

I was discussing with someone on WO suffering from Raynaud's, about last year.
Can't remember who it was.

If you are reading this, please send me a PM.

I think i recommended Lumbrokinase back then, which helped me with light RS quite a bit, but there i got another recent finding that seems to help: Magnesium.

But there's a catch:

I was taking Magnesium in the form of Mg-Oxide for years now, which is poorly resorbed by the body and gives you the shits at even moderate doses. I am speaking of doses of about half RDA (according to the FDA guideline of 350mg pure Mg), so i came through the day with ne third of the RDA through supplemental intake, which didn't help mucle soreness much. I also tried Mg-Citrate, but that messes up my intestines instantly, resulting in even more runs to the toilet at even lower dosage.

When i agreed to myself that there is not much more i can do to up my Mg uptake, i came across Mg-Glycinate (by accident on YouTube linked videos).
It was just running on auto-start mode in the background with  me not really listening, but when the narrator said the words "no loosening of stool" it clicked.
I restarted the vid, which included a comparison of all available forms of Mg as supplements and Glycinate was the one the narrator spoke about.
Ordered some the other day (1000mg caps, which is about 200mg pure Mg, or four sevenths of RDA for adult males), tried it out and yep: No runs, no upset stomach.
Muscle soreness from recent workout were vanishing within a day, skin got moisted up more, bruises were healing unusually quick after three more days and i also got calm and focused, but also a little more awake at night.
On day four, i realized getting glowing warm hands and feet, as well as more restistance to lower ambient temperatures. The effect set in a couple of hours after intake, and lasted for half a day, and when i got outside, the hands and feet were feeling warm inside, though they (hands mostly) got cold slowly outside, but warmed up way faster in warm environments again. I have a slight cold, so i didn't do the icebathing test yet, but it feels like i could tolerate the icy water even better than i have trained myself and my body to do, and also by using Lumbrokinase in the past.

So here's the essence: Magnesium seems to do a lot of good things to the body and nervous system through sufficient dosage.
Most supps you get at drugstores, supermarkets or pharmacies are based on forms of Mg almost noone's intestines would tolerate to reach efficient (RDA) doses.
This is just a waste of money, other than you are after something that makes your shit a little softer, but when you take too much of it, liquid, which isn't what most people want, i guess.

Magnesium Glycinate (also sold as Magnesium Bisglycinate) - try it, especially if you do Sports on a regular basis, drink much alcohol or usually take too much carbohydrates, or suffer from Mg deficiency, revealed through blood tests, and it should help Raynaud's as well, without emptying your bank account. It's really cheap.
As always: DYOR

I thought it mostly affects females.
That said, if mittens and warm socks don't work, why not move to some "hot" places...it is 30oC in Houston right now..
...I know, i know, but food around here is good; maybe too much light pollution, so stargazing is difficult.
Basically...why subject yourself to a lot of discomfort when simply moving to a warmer climate (in EU-Algarve, Portugal or Cyprus) might do the "trick"?
Remote work could be done from anywhere, right?

TL;DR assuming that mittens don't work.

Right now, I am enjoying almost 5% in my money market funds, but started to look wearily on a gigantic money flow there...don't like crowded trades.

Well, I suppose that if you are earning 5% interest on your dollars, then that is better than earning 0% or even  some faction of a percentage - and perhaps, 5% might keep up with inflation, but these days there are a lot of doubts regarding whether 5% would be very reflective of actual inflation.. and the suggestion that "we all have our own inflation number" does have some truth to it, even though that same statement is used to manipulate perceptions of actual inflation and to propagandize folks into maintaining some confidence in status quo fiat-based systems.

Any budget is likely going to strive to categorize various kinds of liquidity and surely there are needs to keep some funds continuously liquid to the extent that any of us have monthly expenses.  Wasn't there one point in which you, Biodom, had mentioned that you needed to have something like $15k per month of passive income merely to feel that you were at entry-level fuck you status, and surely none of us should be judging the standard of living or even the "accustomed lifestyle" that any of us expects, but there are so many folks in the world in which either $1 million entry level fuck you status will work, even if it is likely safer to consider $2 million as a kind of widely applicable number... and of course, if there is a passage of time, we always should be accounting for how that number might change (or get diluted) through the passage of time, but if we make a statement in 2013 that entry level fuck you status is $1million, then in order to be consistent, it does seem that based on so many things that have happened in terms of the denigration of the dollar (and perhaps especially since March 2020), it seems reasonable that doubling to $2million in 2022/2023 dollars seems in the ball park of reasonable.

It seems that around a year ago or so, I had mentioned in one of my posts that some supposed "expert" was proclaiming that if our number used to be $1million prior to March 2020, then now it would be $8 million, and I surely find that to be a bunch of bullshit and exaggeration, even though surely the value of the dollar could go shooting down, as it seems that Belaji's prediction of $1million per BTC to come by mid-June 2023 seems to require.. which seems to be quite below 1% odds of something like that happening in such a short timeline.

Things are looking pretty shitty, but not as if the whole system will collapse within 90 days or whatever (fewer days now, of course since that prediction was a couple of weeks ago).

Honestly, I have no idea of the system's "state". Lots of statistical information seem to disappear from the interwebs, or so it seems.
My smallish (way below FDIC limit) cash is in an unnamed SIB, but even then I am considering to move most of it to the money market fund for now. About 55% of my fiat is in money market funds, 45% in some risky stocks (used to be 50:50 before 2022 stock market declines), no index funds or mutual funds other than money market.
5% is, of course, very little, and NOT a winning move in 2023 (so far), although it was in 2022.

In 2023, bitcoin is the clear leader, followed by both stocks and bonds, RE is underperforming for obvious reasons.
Mentally, I am almost ready to get out of money market funds before most people do the same, so will be looking at all indicators like a hawk.
Currently, and for the last year, not doing anything with bitcoin, for better or worse, just hodling.

As of today it is mostly blah blah, BUT, if they start printing en masse again (in the face of 5-6% inflation), then all bets are off.

Next year halving is predicted to arrive in exactly a year from now on April 1, 2024.
Many pundits, including Balaji, are betting on it.

So much work...I am getting too old for this s-t.
Can retire now, no question about it, but my dad's health really deteriorated after he retired, don't really want to go that route.

Men typically take it (stopping regular work) much harder, need at least a significant hobby or a couple of those, I hear.
I would have picked golf, maybe, but it is so darned hot here in the summer.
Mining is also becoming so industrialized that it is not much fun to small-mine.
Maybe nodes or lightning nodes?

In any case, bitcoin is on the mend, that's all that matter...in the long run.
Daily fluctuations are...fluctuating.

Cheers, WO!

Good luck to you bro. Whatever you do, do it with a passion.
I could have retired 3 years ago but I actually like my job now.
Wo-bros may have seen some of my "government work" all done "on my lunch hour" over the years, because I love creating things.
And my job has provided me the tools to do that.
With passion, and I still have my health, my precious talented daughter, and I'm thankful for that.

I wish you all the best in your retirement years my friend.

GO BITCOIN

same to you, bro!

If not anything else there HAS to be an escape boat out of the approaching predicament for at least some people.
If it does not materialize, then we might end up in a worldwide Depression 2.0
My bet is that bitcoin is that almost perfect agent of preservation in the digital age.
Gold is too bulky and "physical" and real estate is too leveraged.
However, it is also possible that my thinking is all wrong and there will be something else, but I just cannot see it, currently.
720  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: March 27, 2023, 04:07:42 AM
Honestly, i don't even get the legality of it.
Say, you are a stockholder at the Signature bank.
Your stock is at $70 at the end of trading day on Fri, was trading freely all day, no halts.
Suddenly, this bank is "seized" on Sunday and you read the following:
"Shareholders and certain unsecured debtholders will not be protected", which means that your stock in this bank is suddenly worth ZERO.
No other explanation given. Is there any legal scholars to comment?

At this point, who would hold any other bank stock, apart from top 4 (JPM, C, BAC and WFC)?

all this is bullish for bitcoin, though.

I think there can be legal actions to get more details but I don't really see the issue. The bank got bankrupt and in bankruptcy shareholders are screwed. If it was another kind of company that could continue doing business under bankruptcy protection, shares might hold some value, but apparently there is no bankruptcy protection for banks, which is understandable as we just saw that banks need trust, who is going to trust a bankrupt bank ?

no evidence that Signature was bankrupt and NO ONE even alleged that.

Are you a shareholder or are you upset a "crypto bank" went down ?

I don't know enough to be able to counter your point, but to me it seems clients were withdrawing funds at a rapid rate that the bank couldn't sustain (a bank run) and thus it would run out of cash in a matter of hours. Is that a bankruptcy ? I let you decide.

you are talking about SVB, not Signature. There was very little 'run' at signature. The excuse was something else.
Not a shareholder, but seems like something strange.
