Oh man. RT is a good source of destructive misinformation. RT is most of all for marginalized people, those who tend to believe in all sorts of incredible things about their own government in America or other Western countries.

Even though I still agree with you on the fact that RT is a Russia shill and attempt to create chaos in the US on certain things. I don't think this is something that they're exaggerating in the least, as this message between strozk and his lover shows that this sort of behavior was present within some of the FBI's investigations -- as Strozk wasn't just some lowly guy, he was a pretty high ranking member of the FBI.

This sort of stuff is horrid and I hope it can be rooted out of the FBI for good.

Let the free market decide. I wouldn't have an issue with the world having just one currency as long as it wasn't issued by a central bank who can manipulate it as they see fit, but that's unlikely to happen unless there's some sort of global-financial collapse -- which is a possibility I guess. I think there will likely always be government issued fiat supplied by each individual nation though, but that's why I like bitcoin and crypto so much because it gives you the option of transacting with something outside of that. Bitcoin isn't perfect but it's certainly a decent experiment and who knows what it will lead to in the future but it's going to be exciting to see where it takes us.

Good thing no government or bank would ever want it to be like this, as the first couple years of the free market deciding would most likely be a a good deal of chaos (and I'm not saying if that's a bad or good thing, I'm just stating it)\

Government and politicians are always going to want control of monetary policy, and while it does make sense, that blockade makes it pretty much impossible for the free market to decide on currency usage.
2603  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Does it even matter if governments and banks accept cryptocurrency? on: October 19, 2018, 02:29:53 PM
This question has come up time and time again, and honestly, I think the answer is going to be yes -- even though they're going to be selling it for fiat immediately. This is still something that promotes adoption and allows people to use their cryptocurrency to pay for taxes, permits, fees, (and bank related activities)

So yes, yes it does.
2604  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Is it better to just have one global currency? on: October 18, 2018, 11:59:54 PM
One global digital currency would be ideal. It would reduce the individual leverage of nations, which is one contributing factor to both trade wars and actual wars, creating one world economy. There are a lot of benefits to this:

-You could make decent money in previously third-world countries (India, Ukraine, etc.)

-It would level the global economic arena. China could no longer use currency exchange as a means to make their goods cheaper on the global market.

Well no, this wouldn't be the case anymore -- as stuff wouldn't be priced (or paid in wages) the same in all countries.

You have to understand that when the entire world gives up the control of their currencies, you're also giving up control over monetary policy (interest rates and so on) to a group/chamber of people who are going to be voting on these issues. Most likely with proportional representation from bigger countries (population)

Trump has asked the free market to ignore those who inaccurately and unfairly report on him. He hasn’t caused any form of violence or otherwise attempted to use force to compel any reporters to say certain things.

Ah, someone with a little sense that knows that simply calling out fake news isn't an 'unfair attack on the media by the President of the United States' Thank god....

I don't understand why people will 'protect' the media from their lying. I'm not going to say that all media has to be unbiased, as they're able to do as they please -- but for godsake we should be able to call them out on what they do.

LOL fuck off with the world police shit already I don't need to pay more at the pump in Canada because some moron dissident was stupid enough to go into a dictators embassy.

US consume lots oil, Saudi Arabia sells lots of oil, US makes Arms, Saudi Arabia buys Arms, Trump sells lots of apartments, Saudi's buy lots of apartments from Trump!  Hmm not hard to see that the only people that will end up being hurt by this is the poor sacks of shit like me at the pump... Any fucking sanctions aren't going to hurt anyone but "me".

Did this commie just say he wants higher gas prices?

YOUR GAS PRICES ARE HIGH BECAUSE OF TAXES, DO YOU KNOW WHAT THOSE ARE YOU COMMIE <3 - https://retail.petro-canada.ca/en/fuelsavings/gas-taxes-canada.aspx link here for taxes related to gas in Canada.

I know why they are high right now, I am saying I don't want them higher because of this situation and America playing world police could make the price I pay higher than it is now.  America and Saudi Arabia have a little tiff and I pay more than I do already so I don't like that and I say fuck off already.

Sheeesh you Fascists have a problem with reading comprehension!  One would think you were the one enjoying legal marijuana but alas your not lucky enough to live in Canada!  Cool  Wink

Two words - ENERGY INDEPENDENCE!

But in all honesty, I did know what you meant -- I just think that it is fair for this death to be questioned. Though I don't think a world police action (invasion, etc) is needed.

I’d like to setup a thread for all conversations relating to the death / murder of the Saudi Journalist.

Hellfish and I were chatting on this, and I think we’ve both agreed (after little research, from us) that we don’t think the US should go into full world police mode over something like this.

It depends on who you're asking when you ask the question -- because it's going to be better for who?

Better for the working class people? Probably not so much, as their country (depending on where they live, and what country they're in) has lost control of their native currency and has given this control to a regulative body which could be represented by a whole different group of people (SEE THE EU)

It might be better for businesses, the financial sector, etc. But it's not going to be better for smaller countries that are going to have to be fully beholden to the bigger countries in the world who have the ability to bully them through monetary policy. But that's just me thinking off the top of my head here folks.

I may look into this further at some point and see if there are any concrete studies on the matter.
2610  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Should UBI Replace all Welfare Systems? on: October 15, 2018, 04:27:29 AM
I just don't understand UBI, someone has to pay for it.  Deficits are ballooning out of control I can't imagine handing everyone free money is going to help fiscal responsibility...

There are WAY better ways IMO to help the lower classes (if that was the goal which I am sure it is never the goal of any politician hehe) that actually incentivize working.

Reducing the tax burden on working people by increasing the non taxable income threshold would be a major start to helping low wage families that actually work.

I am also very unclear why people are in favour of some kind of UBI but resist a higher minimum wage (or reject the concept of min wage at all).

I mean, if every other single welfare system is removed then we don't have an issue with the whole fiscal responsibility thing. As it's pretty close in price (I don't have the exact numbers, but that's it)

I would have to say that people support UBI instead of min wage increases is because it puts people out of the market, if there are people willing to work for $7.50 an hour -- then so be it they're going to get jobs. But if the government sets an arbitrary number at lets just say $10, then less people are going to be able to be employed by this firm as they're not going to increase salaries (they're going to cut hours, or employees, or both) That's just simple economics.

But yes, there probably are tons of other ways to fix the system -- but this is just what I proposed sometime ago, hehe.

Modern conservatives are by no means united in keeping weed illegal; I have always thought the largely Democratic lawyers and court systems were the major factor that kept it illegal. It's a huge money machine for those jerks.

I would also like to see Trump move in the direction of legalization. At this point there is sufficient experimentation on the subject by various states to determine a reasonable federal policy. Scientifically it has no business on the narcotics list.

While I do without a doubt agree with you on policy, I do think that he can keep his own people happy (the old style conservatives, not the modern ones) by simply having the federal gov not have a stance on marijuana and leaving it up to the states.

The biggest issue with Marijuana policy is the issue of the government having differing stances. As marijuana shops (or any companies they do business with these places) can't use banks and are subject to RICO civil suites due to breaking federal code. If this federal code wasn't there, this would be a huge plus.

Leave it up to the states, and take a huge win. That's my view at least.

Except legalization of marijuana at a federal level. IMO if Trump enacted this policy (I am not holding my breath) he would in my opinion have an instant lock on 4 more years short of starting a nuclear war. The left really wants it, the right either wants it or doesn't give that much of a crap about it either way. The ones that do are quickly becoming history. He would take a hit from some powerful lobby groups in the prison and law enforcement industries, but this is a policy which has reached its time.

If he were to take this opportunity he could end 100 years of pain and destruction related to the prohibition of marijuana and truly make a great mark on American history.

I do think that this MAY tank his approval rating among the people that have loved him for so long, the conservatives in the Republican party. Though I do guess that the Federal government could just not have laws on it, and let the states set the laws without the federal government having any sort of ruling on it.

Rather then the federal government legalizing it, and forcing states to legalize it as well -- if you understand what I mean on this. As I do think that this would keep the states rights conservatives happy, and open Trump up to a massive amount of love among moderates and liberals.
2613  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Should UBI Replace all Welfare Systems? on: October 14, 2018, 08:14:12 PM
UBI/welfare both warp price signaling conditions in markets, which can cause very serious issues. They both result in inflation. IMO we should offer some kind of tax credit where you can volunteer at approved facilities, and be "paid" in the form of a tax voucher at a regular wage rate. This voucher would be good for the year and could be applied to negate any existing tax liability during that period.

IMO this would foster a culture of community service, create jobs, help people transition to the work environment, and most importantly be productive while also not skewing the market conditions which we all rely on. This wouldn't solve every problem but IMO it would be more effective than the current welfare system.

Though this does open up the question of who is going to approve these 'community service centers' Because this could become a political issue where people are saying that certain centers that are aligned with political parties (such as the NRA, Planned Parenthood, etc) This would open up some pretty big issues IMO, unless there's a way to screen against things like this.

The only thing that I was going on when I initially proposed this idea of replacing UBI was to improve productivity because there is no large cliff-like a cutoff point.
2614  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Should the US be spending money on this B-2 stealth bomber? on: October 14, 2018, 08:00:20 PM
While I'm not going to sit here and attempt to be a warhawk about certain things, but people do have to know that a good deal of military spending is spent on employee benefits and salaries (as the military is one of the largest - or maybe even the largest - employer in the United States) so it's not like all of the money that they're spending is all going to R & D work.

I do think this R & D is pretty important as well, as you're going to have to keep up with all of your eneimies in ensuring that no one has an edge. This is a pretty horrid rabbit hole to go down, as there is no real 'winning' in this situation. But it's either this, or one country gets an advantage.
2615  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Sexual abuse in catholic church - enough already! on: October 14, 2018, 07:47:32 PM
Unfortunately it is not just the church. Any organization of any influence you can think of has at one point or another been manipulated, influenced, or controlled using a system of placing perverts in power, feeding them kids, and documenting their crimes. This is the modus operandi of the most dangerous international mobs on earth. Loyalists in governments and law enforcement all over the world are now in the process of routing these organizations out. This is the primary cause of the instability in the world we see now as they try to burn everything down on their way out. In their minds, if they can't have power/control, no one should.

Yet again, TecShare and I agree about something on this forum.

But yes, I don't think that it's fair to just blame the Catholic Church for these sorts of issues. I think these are present in MANY other organizations, and the reason that the Catholic Church is taking a good deal of heat about it due to their size -- as I wouldn't doubt this happens in other organizations.

I think she tried to the best of her abilities, and to most, that would indeed appear like she wasn't even trying.

But the American people voted in the person that lied the least. Look at his follow through on campaign promises.

Whatever facts you were presented with you'll always see Trump as the evil villain...

Exactly this, if you were to actually go through all of the Trump campaigns promises you'd see that they've fulfilled a good deal of them with a RAZOR THIN majority in the Senate. He's done a great deal, but the people that hate him are just going to continue to hate him -- there's nothing that can be done to fix some peoples hate.

That's just how it goes.
2617  Other / Politics & Society / Re: 2020 Democratic Nominee. on: October 13, 2018, 05:04:17 PM
Cory Booker is obviously going for it, though he doesn't seem too popular. Kamala Harris is about the same. The media recently developed a crush on Beto O’Rourke, so he's a new possibility. The Democratic establishment is clearly setting up Joe Kennedy to run at some point, but analysts seem to think that he won't run in 2020.

If the election happened ~now, I don't think that Booker, Harris, any Clinton, Cloony, Avenatti, or Zuckerburg could win against Trump. Oprah would stand a chance, but boy would that be sad. Michelle Obama would win. Don't know about O’Rourke.

I don't understand the crush on Beto, he seems like someone who has a past that may seem a little too hard for some to look over (the whole car accident thing)

I think Michelle Obama just came out and said politics isn't for her (though yet again, she may change her mind in 2 years)

I without a doubt can see Harris, and Booker. But I can't see anyone beating Trump as of right now, some may point to his poll numbers but these have been what his numbers have been since becoming the President (and beating Clinton)
2618  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Why won't the FBI reveal the identity of the latest Facebook hackers? on: October 12, 2018, 11:25:45 PM
Usual behavior in these sorts of situations isnt to come out and expose anyone (or at least, who you think may have commited the crime) this close to the actual investigation. They're probably still trying to find the suspects that they have in mind, and releasing the information that they have may compromise exactly what they're trying to do right now.

Give it some time, it'll come out soon bud!

The second is if you introduce a 3rd party, it makes it incredibly easy for extremist groups to get in. Green saps votes from Blue, and Blue loses to Red when it otherwise would have won, Red and Blue are divided or apathetic and Green takes the majority as a result, etc. The idea being short term political whims shouldn't be allowed to create instability. Of course you can argue the validity of these arguments, this was part of the intent when it was created.

I don't think this would be the case, as I don't think a third party would ever have too much power too much power in the least. Lets take some other countries political systems for example (systems where you're going to have multiple parties) usually just ends up drifting to where you have two parties (just not by name, they'll drift to be in a coalition / alliance with one another)

So even if your country has multiple parties, you still end up with a two party dynamic (in most places) as people want to centralize power.
2620  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Politics fools us all - Batman Needs the Joker on: October 12, 2018, 04:22:22 AM
As with any organization, it has similar result if hijacked by criminal cartels. I think one thing you are seeing though that may be confusing is the fact that the 2 party system int he US was DESIGNED to create deadlock so that those politicians don't get the ability to pass too many laws. The entire idea was they spend the whole time fighting each other and not fighting to enslave the people. To an extent however you are correct, it is largely controlled opposition.

This is more of what I was getting at 'controlled oposition' crazy that I couldn't think of this term, but thanks for that.

Quote
I'm pretty sure we can all agree that all government officials, regardless of party, need accountability.

Oh 100% though I don't think accountability is going to solve a controlled oppo problem, it's just going to make people better at pleasing their bases and faking it.
