Lets be real for a second. When the US was spending large amounts of money on the space race, it was a highly popular thing to do. We were in a 'war' against the soviets and this was a RACE to who could win first.

You had public support, congressional support, military support, and so on and so forth.

People love space and all, but it's just not as popular as it used to be. And to waste 4 percent of the budget on it again at a time where no one sees the reason for that, is wasteful and unnecessary.

IIRC the current request is to expand the NASA budget to 0.87% to fund the return to the moon.

So is that something like a double of NASA current budget to put it around 44b?

I don't really see this sort of need, but then again -- I'm not a science buff in the least, so this sort of thing doesn't truly concern me. Nor do I think it concerns many Americans.

None.

Trump didn't commit a crime. Nor one that is punishable by death.

I'll entertain you for a second. If you think Trump committed obstruction of justice is that punishable by the death?

It's not me saying this. It's a REPUBLICAN candidate for presidency saying this.

Pretty sure he means "TREASON". Not obstruction silly user Wink

I don't care what Bill Weld thinks in the least, I don't think many of us truly care about anything that comes out of his mouth (as well as yours)

You had literally agreed by asking if it should be by a noose?

i don't get you in the least.

1865  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Little sad story about Crimea and Upwork on: September 23, 2019, 02:14:55 AM
I think this is something that has been ongoing for sometime now. Check here - https://www.treasury.gov/resource-center/sanctions/Programs/Documents/ukraine_eo4.pdf

Are you saying that you've been working on upwork and you live in Crimea and you've lost out on work. Or that you just signed up and you can't get any more work?

These restrictions are sad and should be removed right away, why don’t you choose fiver or better yet check out the service section here and find some jobs.

That's really insane. Here in India, they brought new regulations to limit our income by imposing special restrictions on PayPal and stuff without much reasons.

Although I know upwork never reconsiders its decisions, I do think that your block is temporary though, assuming you don't actually live as "permanent residence" of the prohibited place and if you can explain to them about the situation.

Really? I heard people in India are getting really low wages and you're saying they want to keep them low? This is such a bullshit.
In the EU governments love to tax the rich and the main policy is to give to the poor what you can steal from the rich, which is also bullshit IMO.

Crimea is a victim of a big game that Putin is playing. He wanted that piece of land and hi got it but now everyone hates it. They don't hate Putin and don't put restrictions on Russia, but they block Crimea. It's sad to watch.

It seems Upwork is hell bent on removing low earning countries, from what I know Indians barely earn good from upwork because their work is not considered quality in comparison to EU and US sellers. However when I switch to fiver I see many Indian sellers making good money, hence I feel you two could use fiver to make more money.

This isn't some policy relating to UpWork, this is a government policy relating to sanctions. As I'm assuming Russia is sanctioned heavily by the US (which in turn, causes US businesses to not be able to work with Crimea, as they are now a Russian territory)

So yeah. Don't blame upwork here.

Could be true, I wouldn't be surprised.

In my line of thinking, how would someone be able to verify if President Trump had said something or didn't in a confidential call like this. Does someone take notes during this, or is the line recorded for some reason? This is the portion that could help out either side.

Frankly it is irrelevant. Even if it were true doesn't automatically equate to criminal or immoral activity. Also its not a whistleblower, it is just some one within DHS reporting rumors discovered not even related to his work, making him not a whistleblower under the law. Also there is the small fact that Biden doesn't stand a chance of winning as it is, Trump doesn't need to do this to win and doing such a thing would be counterproductive to his goals. None of these accusations against Trump make any sense at all.

Biden -- criminal or not in his intentions by doing what he did, but himself in a horrible conflict of interest that should hurt him now.

Video of Joe Biden admitting that he bribed the Ukrainian President with $1 billion dollars to fire lead prosecutor investigating his corrupt son is being scrubbed from YouTube and other social media.

1. The video in your article is hosted on YouTube. Guess the DNC or whoever isn't scrubbing very hard.

2. The subject of contention has nothing to do with a "bribe." It has to do with the release of a condition-based loan.

3. The embezzlement case against Burisma Holdings was handed down to the Ukranian state prosecutor, Viktor Shokin in 2014, 2 months before Hunter Biden took a position in the company. The investigation effectively concluded in 2015 with no finding of wrong doing. Shokin wasn't fired until 2016.

Hunter Biden joined the board in April 2014, two months after U.K. authorities requested information from Ukraine as part of a probe against Zlochevsky related to money laundering allegations. Zlochevsky had been minister of environmental protection under then-President Viktor Yanukovych, who fled to Russia in February 2014 after mass protests.

After the U.K. request, Ukrainian prosecutors opened their own case, accusing Zlochevsky of embezzling public funds. Burisma and Zlochevsky have denied the allegations.

The case against Zlochevsky and his Burisma Holdings was assigned to Shokin, then a deputy prosecutor. But Shokin and others weren’t pursuing it, according to the internal reports from the Ukrainian prosecutor’s office reviewed by Bloomberg.

In a December 2014 letter, U.S. officials warned Ukrainian prosecutors of negative consequences for Ukraine over its failure to assist the U.K., which had seized Zlochevsky’s assets, according to the documents.

Those funds, $23.5 million, were unblocked in 2015 when a British court determined there wasn’t enough evidence to justify the continued freeze, in part because Ukrainian prosecutors had failed to provide the necessary information.

It would appear that this Shokin guy was too soft and ineffective in his investigation, which completely contradicts the narrative of Biden Did Bad Thing.

This story is a big bowl of nothing except for the fact that it looks like Trump pushed too hard for a reopening of an investigation into Hunter Biden and got caught in the process.

I mean lets be real, all of us are just going to sit around fighting one another on the subject matter here. None of us are keyed into what really did happeen, and I really doubt anything is ever going to come out of this. Maybe that's just me being cynical here, but yeah.

Biden has some cover, at least -- at least at first. He's able to say that the prosecutor was corrupt, which is true and has been proven.

I guess we'll see in the coming weeks if anything comes out of this. Though I do doubt it.

This is just a Democrat attempt at Russagate 2.0 which will fail even worse than the first time, mark my words. The blow back against the dems hasn't even begun to drop yet over Russiagate. When it all comes out suddenly the last 3 years of insane unending accusations will be clearly demonstrated as a desperate attempt to save their own asses, just like this.

Could be true, I wouldn't be surprised.

In my line of thinking, how would someone be able to verify if President Trump had said something or didn't in a confidential call like this. Does someone take notes during this, or is the line recorded for some reason? This is the portion that could help out either side.

Can China liberate California from USA? There are many cultural and economic differences there, I guess they could become a developed and prosperous independent country without the influence of Washington.

You do understand that the reason we're talking about Donald Trump liberating Hong Kong is because HK isn't supposed to be apart of China, and they're attempting to integrate them as part of their nation through force.

California has always been apart of the US.

He can't even seem to give proper attention to underserved communities what makes us think he will care about people in hong kong

Explain.

There is a long cultural concept of there only being "One China."

I think this is being carried too far by those in china who would "re integrate Hong Kong."

Hong Kong should be handled as a territory, separate and with it's own rules, but still part of the "One China."

I'm pretty sure this is what was agreed to by the Chines when Britian handed HK back to the Chinese when the 100 year lease was over. Though they seem to be slowly chipping at this with no real intervention from foreign powers because they're too scared of hurting their own business interests in China.

As not only does China produce a large amount of the goods in the world for large corporations, they also are an emerging market for these companies. So they have to 'play nice' with China to get what they want.

1873  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Amazon has been rigging Searches to boost their own products on: September 21, 2019, 08:32:50 PM
Interesting but not surprising. Amazon also gives different brand names to a lot of their made-in-china products so sometimes its hard to tell what there products are.
When reading the reviews on amazon it becomes very obvious that a lot of the reviews are fake on some products. Amazon has to know about this because theres like 100 reviews posted by the same ip address or user agent or whatever and yet they do nothing about it and profit from it.

A few years ago i was selling HANDMADE knives that my neighbor made on amazon and a seller started selling identical knives to mine. He had literally bought one of my handmade knives, take a photo of it and then was claiming to sell them. I never bought one so I dont know if they were just reselling my knives or making bootleg ones. Amazon didnt do anything and the seller on amazon is doing 100k sales a month now.

Hopefully the FCC and FTC put them in there place soon.

Your situation regarding another person stealing your picture and using it would allow for you to sue him. Something you should've probably started with making a report to Amazon and then contacting a lawyer who knows this sort of law. Probably not going to help too much to be complaining here!

I was completely against Amazon for quite a long time, but I'm changing my opinion.  I find that products they have bought in bulk, and fulfil themselves are usually cheaper and available for next day collection. They are new products as well, and not repackaged returns that some other retailers seem to push. Shops like PC World are more expensive, and when I asked for product clarification once, the manager seemed to be more interested in modelling his suit, and talking to the female members of staff. You don't get this with the Amazon robots.

Oh I'm not saying I'm against Amazon in any way. Though people do have to notice that the reason Amazon is able to sell all of these products for so low is because they are losing money on the whole prime service. Amazon hasn't made a dime from it and it's a massive money sink. Why do you think a company would do this? In order to further market share and then take control of the market down the line.

Though the weird thing with Amazon though is that they have 32 percent of online sales in the US (last thing I read regarding it) and still haven't increased prices to make more money (On their own Amazon basic products of course)

Apparently it wasn't just one photo, but 3. For the amount of virtue signalling he does this is pretty hilarious seeing him eat crow in a very subject appropriate way. Also in this case it wasn't like it was from his high school years but was from 2001. Hard to say "it was a different time" for this one.

This is the funniest part of it, due to the fact that he's the type of guy to be angry at other people for doing the same thing. I could see him on twitter shaming people right now for wearing blackface at a fucking halloween party 45 years ago or some shit.

Great to see. Though I do think the only reason people should care about this is because of the fact that he would attack people for the same thing.

I just don't understand why everyone has been sweeping this under the rug and how it can happen. This isn't something that is normal out of anyone, even for fetishes.

He should be promptly investigated, but we know it's not going to come to fruition anyway. The prosecutor may try something, but he's going to get quickly shut down due to his large political connections.....
1876  Other / Politics & Society / Re: 9/11 terror attacks on: September 18, 2019, 09:26:21 PM
I believe it was a conspiracy.
It is so difficult in a country like the US to let an airplane fly so low in a place with so many skyscrappers around.
Everything seems so wrong in this story, in a country with so many security levels...

Now it seems like something that would never happen.

When it happened though, there had been no real safety features on a plane. The doors to the cockpit weren't locked, barely any screening at airports, no air marshals, no large scale intelligence at airports to be looking for this sort of behavior.

If we look at it from a lens of today, one that is pretty much relying on all of the intelligence we have today and the security features it's going to be hard for you to see it happening.

But it did happen, its' not a conspiracy theory. Two planes hit the WTC. One hit the pentagon, and another was going for the White House and it was taken over by the people on board.

What else is there to know about it?

A lot. I was an adult when it happened and witnessed the events unfold that day (on the news) as it happened. Even then there was no excuse for this to be possible. There is so much that is wrong with the official story, but the part no one can argue with is the laws of physics. Unfortunately according to the official story the laws of physics were broken multiple times that day.

Just so I know, and can potentially agree/refute what you're going to say next. What laws of physics were broken that day?

Dude, not a third option?

I want to choose stupidity if there is.

Don't forget that it was the USA&China who helped those jihadists in Afghanistan in 1980s to fight USSR.
They just thought their enemy's enemy must be their friends at that time. How stupid it was.
And some of those jihadists formed the predecessor of Al-Qaeda which launched the 9/11 attacks later.

Besides, China didn't play better than USA either in this case. Its Xinjiang province next to Afghanistan has been under severe infiltration of radical islamists since 1980s. Now they have to use extreme or you could say inhuman methods such as re-education camps to brainwash the muslims (a ccp version brainwash vs islamic brainwash competiton) to correct their own mistakes.

Obviously if you are to look at all of this now, it's BEYOND EASY to see why they shouldn't have been funding rebel groups in the middle east. But at the time, it looked like the most sensible option to stop the USSR. I don't see how someone can still attempt to use today's lens and information to attack a decision that was made when only a certain amount of information was available.

We're missing the mark COMPLETELY if we're just telling businesses to accept bitcoin and end it there. You either get all of the people that they have to pay onboard as well, or they use a service like bitpay, OR they don't use any of these at all.

Bitpay is designed for and intended to be used by parties that know NOTHING about crypto and don't care to. They just want to put more little symbols next to the PAY button.

Yeah, okay?

What's wrong about that?

I don't think theres an issue with a company giving people choices in payment. Not every company is going to want to go full crypto because it's impossible for them to use the crypto anyway to further their business.

Did you even read what I wrote?

I thought I did. My point though is there is no "should" or "ought" or "we need to ... " when some mindless business owner's just looking to expand means of payments.

As for whether there's something wrong with what bitpay is doing of course there is. They are kissing ass of powers that be exactly the same way that MC and Visa are doing. That's a dangerous road, as is evidenced by this very thread's title.

By the way, never believe these kinds of guys when they come up with flimsy excuses why they didn't send money or coin to someone. NEVER!

So now you're going to demonize business owners who are just opening another revenue stream for themselves? This is the sort of behavior that is going to forever hurt the crypto community. There's no reason to accept a business owner to go full hard on for crypto if they can't use crypto for anything. For them, accepting Crypto is just going to be like accepting another payment method.

Yes, some business owners are going to be receptive with owning this speculative asset and considering it an investment. But for most people, this is just another means of making money and growing their business.

You're missing a vital piece of this whole story, he's being charged with not only providing the meth for usage but injecting it into the person

Buck is due in court Wednesday to respond to three counts of battery and injecting the alleged third victim with methamphetamine on Sept. 11, the Los Angeles Times reported.

Further on that, is below. Same source as above.

Quote
Buck is accused of thwarting the man's attempt to get help. The man fled the apartment and reportedly called for help from a nearby gas station. He survived but was treated at a hospital.

This guy is seriously fucked up, hopefully prosecutors are able to put him away for a long time. No one should be able to do this.
