2621  Other / Politics & Society / Politics fools us all - Batman Needs the Joker on: October 11, 2018, 11:06:03 PM
I've discussed this multiple times before, but this is the first time that I'm going to legitimately write down what I think about the subject and explain my thoughts on it. I've even discussed it with the commie that moderates this forum, and crazily enough we found that we agree on something!!!!!!

I think that politics is a sham, I think that both parties need one another to stay relevant. If the Republicans dominate politics, with no Democratic challengers, then you're going to see a world with little to no reason for people to fundraise for Republicans and supporting their views -- it's just natural that we have Republican policy.

Think of it like this, if it's a given that we have Republican Presidents that support big oil and no opposition (at least in government) that doesn't support big oil, then there's no reason for big oil to donate large sums of money to political campaigns.

This line of thinking goes both ways, as Planned Parenthood wouldn't be donating to Democrats if they were the only party in the government and Republicans weren't attempting to cut their funding and such.

Batman Needs the Joker, or he's not needed.

What do yall think about this line of thinking? Am I just a crazy conspiracy theorist, or is there some reason behind what I'm thinking? (Just making it moderated to fight the trolls, I'm not going to silence anyone - I promise!)

You can ignore an unprecedented event by the single most experienced person alive and assume your opinion is better than his but no offense bro I'll stick with Justice Stevens unprecedented move by offering his opinion.

Justice Stevens also thinks that the second amendment should be banned. Should I consider him an expert in the field and instantly agree with what he thinks? Disregarding everything else? Just because he's a Supreme Court Justice, wouldn't make his opinion any more important on the matter in my eyes -- I think he's someone that doesn't like Kavanaugh due to his political views and he's without a doubt not going to support his nomation. He's a Democrat, plain and simple with no reason to have to like the guy (it's not like he's on the court and has to keep his opinion to himself)

What are you talking about with that red herring?  I noticed you didn't answer the question.  Nothing about asking for the POTUS to open a supplemental background investigation after new allegations is unethical, illegal, immoral or anything.  Bush did it for Thomas as referenced above.

I said what I said before because you said...

The question now is would you call the President and ask him to get the best agency in the world to try to clear your name?  Or would you sit back and the black cloud hang over you and let everyone make an uniformed decision based on no facts.

I went further into saying why I didn't support the rest of the investigations, though YOUR COMMIE BASTARD SELF, only quoted a portion FAKE FAKE FAKE NEWS.

It's always fun chatting with ya Hellfish!

EDIT -- This seems like a good video for people who don't really know what's going on right now, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BWXOaH12X5g

Of all the things that politicians like to take credit for, stock market - particularly after a 10-year bull run - is one of the most dangerous. A 15% correction would make those 401K voters very very angry.

Oh yeah, without a doubt. This is really going to hurt him if the market REALLY slides down and those 401k voters start to revolt. It would kill most his talking points.

Trade war is going to start affecting a lot of American companies negatively this last quarter, China isn't backing down LOL.  The smart money is taking profits before the shit hits the fan.  An adviser to the Fed today predicted another recession in America by 2020 LOL and in fact mentioned that part of the reason the fed raised interest rates fairly quickly is to try and push that time out further as well as have a little cushion when it does happen to soften the blow.

Funny quote I heard once about recessions, it makes good sense here

"Economists have predicted nine of the past five recessions"

But yes, I do think we did have to raise the interest rates so if we were to have a recession in the next 5 years or so we're able to do something (instead of just looking at a no change dead 0 percent interest rate) Smart money keeps money in HODL, if you will!!!!!

Trying to time the market is one of the worst things people can try to do. Even institutions (mutual funds) can't beat simply following the market.

2624  Other / Politics & Society / Re: 2018 USA Mid Terms! Red or Blue Waves?!? on: October 11, 2018, 08:24:20 PM
Good timing for the dems, Kavanaughs ethics complaint has been referred for judicial review by SC Chief Justice Roberts to the 10th circuit court of appeals (Merrick Garlands Court, although he recused himself rightly so when the complaints first came up).

The bubble popped, the DOW dropped off a cliff today down 800 points.

Ford Motor Co. announced Trumps tariffs have cost the company 1 billion dollars so far.

Great talking points for the dems, while the president runs around encouraging chants of "lock her up" and mocking respected senator Diane Finestein in Pennsylvania.

I think you have to zoom out of your lookings into the market, we're still up a gross amount since Trump took the office of the Presidency.

If we're able to recover past this drop, OR stay at this number -- we're going to see Republicans have a solid chance of fighting dems when it comes to holding the house. I call the voters that Trump needs the 401K voters (or any retirement plan for that matter) the people who are going to vote for whoever can make their retirement accounts grow, and as of right now that has been the Republicans in Congress and the Trump WH.

No worries, next week Trump goes to Florida. A few strategically thrown paper towels will fix the midterms in a jiffy. And it's the Baja Alabama part of Florida so no pesky boricuas in sight.

As a side note, this made me laugh!

Occam's razor bro, Kavanaugh had EVERYTHING to gain and absolutely nothing to lose by asking for a full investigation if he was 100% innocent. Clarence Thomas and George Bush did a full investigation.

Completely outside of the sexual misconduct allegations you have an unprecedented move by the legal community where thousands of legal professionals signed a letter expressing their view that Bart wasn't fit for the bench.

Also even more unprecedented is a former justice going on the record stating Bart wasn't fit for the bench.

Republicans won, that's a fact but at what cost guys.  When the house goes blue they are going to bog down trumps WH with investigation after investigation.  The justice Kavanaugh story is only beginning.

I mean I'm going to go through a good amount of things in the statement.

1. Do you think with the amount of leaks that are in the Trump administration, that Kavanaugh would be able to get away with making this sort of phone call and Trump ordering the FBI to listen to him without anyone in the media finding out? The media finds out about things with MUCH lesser importance, this would come out in a second if it was true -- but that's just my view of the leaks and such.

The whole, he's not fit for the bench thing is a subjective question -- and while I do think that he is fit for the bench, and many respected people do as well. But we must remember that it's going to be subjective on if he is fit for the bench, though I personally do think that he is.

And the whole thing about bogging down the WH with investigations -- why? If the current investigation has been able to find nothing related to Trump-Russia collusion then why is it ongoing and why do people feel the need to expand it?

We haven't seen anything on Trump-Russia, just the Mueller investigation going outside of their purview and not doing anything related to their original stated purpose.

Who knows, if China keeps the pressure on Trump's supporters, Clinton could feasibly stand a chance, rofl.

I mean, I don't even think China is going to be able to do this sort of thing without shocking their own people and causing an uproar at home. As while the US does need China in trade, China needs the United States a good amount more then we need them (If you understand my logic on that)

As the US imports 400b from China, while the US only exports around 230b to China.

It's going to hurt them a lot more, if this gets drawn out -- though I doubt it will. Before a midterm Trump and the GOP need to clean up the image and get the Market back to booming so they can sell it to the voters. It's much easier that way, at least.
2627  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Brexit - Why do they call a second referendum a "people's vote" on: October 11, 2018, 01:03:57 PM
It's interesting that there are no replies in this thread, and it confirms that there is only minimal interest in Brexit outside the UK, and a lot of people are bored with it there as well. Given that it is an unexpected rebellion by the country that created the banking global elite via the Eton/Oxford priviliged elite ( Clinton was an Eton Rhodes scholar ), I find this a bit surprising. I suspect thart most people don't understand the major changes in the world economies that have started. Trump's breaking of the 1970s Petro-dollar agreement with Saudi is another manifestation of this rebellion.

I wouldn't agree with this, I just think that people around the world usually assume that when a vote occurs the decision is going to be made, and it's going to be enforced within the next year or so. Now we're about 2 years out and we're still in Brexit negotiations, which is something which is foreign to the rest of to the world.

It's a way to mask the failures of the current administration in pushing for the people.

Nikki Haley’s name is being thrown around after her mysterious departure announcement.

Yeah, though she's not going to be someone on the Democratic ticket (unless something crazy happens, as she is a pretty deep conservative from the state of NC I think) Though I do really think that the Democrats are going to win unless they put someone up that isn't part of the establishment, because they learned what doing that actually does to their chances of winning the presidency that they really should've won.

I'm seeing a Booker or Harris run. That's just me though.

Bitcoin is an authoritarians nightmare!!!

Bitcoin is a POWERFUL tool of liberty against "socialists" and their like..
Bitcoin is about as free market as it gets.. Basically anarchism..

But with a sate run cryptocurrency, completely centralized, blockchain could be a socialists dream come true to track everyone.
But that is not bitcoin..

I wouldn't go this far in the least, and if the governments of countries wanted to kill cryptocurrencies, it wouldn't take them that much. And if you don't want to believe me, you'll probably believe the internet -- https://www.crypto51.app/

It isn't much money to a rich person, and a government OBVIOUSLY could 51 percent attack bitcoin with the right equipment stockpiled and ready to move on us.

Bitcoin has made a lot of capitalists a lot of money though, as it has opened up many new investment facilitation companies (exchange) companies such as Bitfinex, Coinbase, Kraken, Gemini, etc. Other companies in the mixing space, bitcoin ATM'S , etc.

People are making a lot of money here, and the banks aren't being hurt due to it -- we'rein a bit of an independent bubble which keeps the capitalist happy and the bankers happy.

What happens if you use the free energy from the solar panels on your house? That seems to me to be more efficient than oil-powered cars and certainly cheaper (assuming you don't but a ridiculously expensive electric car that will take you a lifetime to recoup the costs of).

I mean, solar panels aren't free and shouldn't be thought of as producing 'free energy' the energy is only free once your investment (which is rather large to get these installed) is paid off. Until that is done, you should do some calculations to see how much you invested to put those up, maintain, etc.

But I do see your point, though people fall into this trap of thinking that energy is free if it's solar -- while it's not. You without a doubt reduce costs after them being paid back after 30 yrs (depending on financial situation, of course) but there's no such thing as instant free / free lunch.
2633  Other / Politics & Society / Re: The Court Has Confirmed Brett Kavanaugh on: October 10, 2018, 02:07:08 AM
After watching the hearings I believed the allegations. I don't believe he deserved to be in the supreme court. I mean, I thought we filled our quota of massive creeps with Clarence Thomas.

I don't think Kavanaugh understands the importance of separation of powers. The court is supposed to be free from influence but he's openly biased (as he was during the hearings) against the democratic party.

I personally dislike both major parties but even if I was a republican I wouldn't consider that a win.

He's not supposed to be anti-abortion but his bias might make him fall in line and under the influence of the republicans. That can't be good.

I just don't know how people are able to believe the allegations with such little proof, have we entered a society where we're guilty before proven innocent? I don't want that to be the new wave for our country.

This mans life was almost ruined (and will be forever tainted) in an attempt to smear him, I don't get it....

i just think that this is a guy that was always in some sort of public life / political life. As he was part of the Kenn Starr investigation into Clinton, Then apart of the Bush Administration, Then a Federal Judge (appointed by Bush, during a recess I think), and now a Supreme Court Justice.

There were more than enough times before where this could have been used if it was legitimate, and it would have done the same sort of damage and probably sunk him then. I don't know why this had to come up now....

I can't ever remember a time when a President was so actively trying to create a division in his people.  What's also curious is that it is working extremely well and the Dems have not figured out a counter to it.

You must've missed the entire Presidency of Barrack Obama then..... Hehe.

The gloating over the Kavanaugh victory while it appears to play really well with the GOP base show's very little class

But attempting to ruin a man over a 35 year old sexual assault allegation is classful, right right.... We're all just happy that we were finally able to beat the whole sexual assault thing, get a conservative justice on the court, and do it all before midterms while the Democrats were trying to push it until after midterms.

Quote
I think the GOP base is fired right up over the SC win, and are hoping RBG "retires" and Trump will get them 6-3 the next holy grail!

It looks like a pretty easy thing for the Republicans to keep the senate and hell at this point I wouldn't even be surprised if the GOP kept the house as well.

I think the house and senate will stay Republican at this point.  Cool

Ah, something we agree on. You're still a commie bastard btw.

I know it may be tough for some to accept (cough cough flying hellfish commie bastard cough cough) But we, in the United States, have our newest Supreme Court Justice on the court. He has been confirmed by one of the slimmest margins in history when it comes to justices and will go down as the most controversial justice nomination (talking about the process, and what occurred during it) that has successfully made it onto the court.

I'd like to speak to everyone in the P&S section and see exactly what you think about the man. What you think he's going to do, and what you think his nomination is going to mean for the future of the US country and American politics.

I do think that the sexual assault allegations against him are going to invigorate the Republican base to go out and defend their seats for this midterm election. I don't think we're going to see an overturning of Roe V Wade, but I do know that we're going to see the Conservative presence back on the court that we haven't had for a long time.

We're going to see this crazy shift in times, were consumers love AI (once it's perfected, such as the AI that Google is toying with that's going to be able to call restaurants, barbers, and such and make appointments) and the employees behind companies that are being phased out due to these AI inventions, are going to hate these. I'm not surprised by this sort of behavior in the least, though I do truly want to see if there's any sort of legislative action. Such as a Robot Tax or something of that nature.

It's going to be a crazy 30 or so years, I'm going to love watching this.
2638  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Why martingale is PURE SHIT. on: September 03, 2018, 12:06:33 AM
In theory martingale is probably the best method out there as of right now, because the only two variables that should stop it from working is the fact that you'd either run out of money or the bankroll of the gambling site is going to run out of money (or there will be a max bet of some sort)

Though I don't think people should think it's foolproof because it's far from it...

Gambling is a game of chance, and the odds are stacked against you.
2639  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: What about Ethereum-based gambling games? on: September 02, 2018, 11:58:47 PM
As per usual with anything that is decentralized, it probably isn't as prevalent as anything that is centralized -- people don't want to just 'trust the code' and people would much rather have the ability to have trust in a reputation. It's much easier to seek recourse with a company and with the government rather then there being an issue in a decentralized marketplace.

I would much rather have a centralized one for gambling until I find out that the decentralized one has no issues at all.

I don't see it actually doing anything to help crypto gambling, though it may give a boost to some online (legal) gambling websites -- some of these are without a doubt going to include FanDuel (and those online sports weekly bettings things)

Getting into crypto gambling requires bitcoin (or some altcoin) and it simply isn't something that most people have, or have the means to acquire -- so that's just not going to work out. Crypto gambling is cool, but too volatile for people to actually want to gamble with -- once the volatility is gone, the people (and sadly enough, the regulations) will come
