2702  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How often do you transact in the real world with your bitcoin or digital money? on: June 02, 2022, 11:50:07 PM
I only widthdraw and transact with bitcoin and other altcoins if i really need some money. If i earn as well, it is my chance to get some portion of it and eat or buy some things for myself.

Shoping ang paying with Bitcoin is much easier than paying cash especially when you didn't bring any cash with you.

Well, I prefer hodling the Bitcoin until the perceived far far future when you can buy anything with it. Such a future is very close actually. You can already buy cars, plane tickets, hotel rooms for renting and amazon, steam and other coupons. So could you survive with nothing but using Bitcoin as a payment system and still lead an enjoyable life? Definitely. Those payment options will only become more and more as Bitcoin is adopted.

But currently? Better to hodl.

2704  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is it a good time to start accepting BTC? on: June 02, 2022, 09:34:06 PM
The biggest problem with accepting BTC is, from my own subjective perspective, the fact that people cannot lose their Fiat mindset of having a piece of paper with a number which does not change, physically. They just look at their dollar and see a dollar. They do not see a reason to look at a chart of USD/EUR every 15 minutes. Because it is stable to them even though it is slowly losing value everytime the government decides that it needs something.

Bitcoin on the other hand is currently more of an investment into the future which is why the value of BTC is always so wild.

2705  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: The best Free and VIP (paid) predictions by Mica Service⚽️🎾🏀 on: June 02, 2022, 09:25:43 PM
Interesting service idea. How do we know what profits and losses your service will definitely bring? Anyone can make a guess and having an entire team guessing is not really that much more impressive. Do you have an example for potential clients of how your service aka your predictions will have what they are actually paying for, which is not a prediction but a prediction with accurate results.

I doubt you can promise people that.
2706  Other / Off-topic / Old Movie Recommendations on: June 02, 2022, 02:12:13 AM
I have started watching old famous movies from different cultures and countries and I noticed every culture has their own original style of early film-making. So I decided to make a list of such movies. If you have a movie recommendation, please post it in this thread and I will add it to the list.

However please post it in the format : [Title of movie (year) - plot:...] [Your own synopsis on the movie] [Optional: Video link to the full movie]

Old Movies Worth Watching

Kin-Dza-Dza! (1986) - plot: Two humans are trapped on an alien planet which was made almost uninhabitable as a result of selfish greed and a disregard for nature. I recommend watching this movie subtitled in its original audio. Full movie available on Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EYHv8eJrW2Y
This movie was really one of a kind. It was its own artstyle, it showcases the damage and corruption done by the Soviet Union from the perspective of a visiting Foreigner.
Here is a good explanatory video (Watch with translated subtitles): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oWoo16-udZg

Harakiri (1962) - plot: The grandfather of a samurai asks permission to voluntarily perform harakiri but stalls by first telling his sad story, which builds up to a vengeful ending.
You really can feel the emotions of this movie as it imbues the complementary emotions of vengeful satisfaction and benevolent discontent. I recommend watching this movie subtitled in its original audio.

Three Days of the Condor (1975) plot: A CIA office worker becomes the target for assassination and attempts to find out the reason.
The experimental nature of early film-making in America is a sight to behold.

Old Movies recommended by fellow Bitcointalkers:

Recommended by Arriemoller :
The Phantom Carriage or Körkarlen (1921) plot: Swedish Silent Horror Film, by and Starring Victor Sjöström. Full movie available on Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ew6XUvvoK_o
The movie's film-styles have been widely copied by many modern films. Some examples of visual echoes in other works throughout the century : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mZ1RTpikz8I
This is the english translated full version. (Bad quality and weird music added): https://youtu.be/ZvQzaSa_4Q0

Recommended by Lak93xy:

Das Boot (1981) plot: A German U-boat stalks the frigid waters of the North Atlantic as its young crew experience the sheer terror and claustrophobic life of a submariner in World War II.
It is shivering how they build up tension there. The pure horrific reality of what the people actually might have felt when boarding U-Boats back in 2nd WW.

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0082096/

Recommended by odolvlobo:
Seven Samurai (1954) - plot: A village hires a group of samurai to defend them against raiding bandits.
This movie is considered to be one of the greatest Japanese films. It was directed by Akira Kurosawa, considered to be one of the greatest directors. It has plenty of action, humor, and drama. The Magnificent Seven is a famous American remake of this movie set in the American West.

Sunset Boulevard(1950) - plot: A struggling screenwriter stumbles upon the mansion of a forgotten silent movie idol and ultimately becomes her gigolo. The movie shows the events leading to his death.
This is a dark creepy drama. It ends badly for everyone. I like this film because it does a great job of bringing out the complexities of the main characters, contrasting their eccentricities and delusions against the other characters.

Dr. Strangelove (1964) - plot: A deranged American general initiates a nuclear attack against the Soviet Union.
This is a very entertaining dark comedy about pathetic politics, bumbling bureaucracy, and a mixed-up military leading to the end of the world. The movie stars Peter Seller, who plays three different characters, George C. Scott, Slim Pickens, and Sterling Hayden. It is directed by Stanley Kubrick.

2707  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: PH banned online cockfighting - Worst gambling-related cases recorded! on: June 01, 2022, 11:52:17 PM
Yes, that was one of the reasons and that was stated on the news. Other reasons are already mentioned by the OP.

Poor families are not mostly that got heavily affected but people on the mid-range standards. Those poor are already poor and can't sustain e-sabong betting compare to the middle class which has a fixed source of income.

Those missing people up to now mostly came from well-off families. No progress about their status until now.

Maybe I missed something but how are cockfights related to kidnappings? This is probably a purely criminal problem, and even if it is related to gambling and betting on cockfights, legal cockfights and legal gambling business have nothing to do with crime. The authorities should destroy crime, and not its "light" consequences in the form of illegal gambling (in fact, this is a crime without victims).
This is just a causal game for the mid to lower class status in the Philippines but recently the large investors and upper class status see the potential of it to make an earning and of course they built their own stadium regarding with this game play and some issues right now in PH is the large number of person are still missing due to having a match-fixing in the fight. And of course no one want to get abuse of this and some hoax there's a large name involve so they can't talk about it.

The owner of E-sabong give a statement that they earn 3 billions  pesos every month for its operation https://newsinfo.inquirer.net/1563433/atong-angs-e-sabong-firm-earns-p3-b-gross-income-per-month-senators-learn

So for this they really see a huge potential to earn money in this industry and government see this also as good source of tax that's why they let this operate because they can get collect money from this business to put it on pandemic response. But since the abuse is rampant especially the issue about missing sabongero burst then this that's why they been stop to operate. We don't know on when they will be back but hopefully the government will not let them open their life destroyer business again.

3 billions  pesos every month? Thats over $150 million USD.

Thats not too bad, no wonder they government was usually so lax on such a senseless sport. Morality does tend to oxidize away into nothing when your country desperately needs money. Except usually the leaders end up putting the money in their own pockets while the people get even poorer. I think thats a good reason why people should not support E-Sabong. Or better all Sabong. Its morally degrading.
2708  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Could Bitcoin's transparency be its downfall? on: June 01, 2022, 07:40:22 PM
Excuse me, what happened to "Verify, don't trust"?
My point is that the government do not care if their claims are legit they care about convincing the others which are not yet using btc that is is bad. This is something I think will be a problem even if a lot of people do not share the same opinion here.
That's definitely happening: Lobby groups and governments do already pay millions to paint Bitcoin in a bad picture. It seems like a last-ditch attempt at stopping people from buying and using Bitcoin, which is very telling.
We have a topic here where they try the old 'Bitcoin == climate change' falsehood which cost them a ton of money and I believe it has achieved nothing:
"Change the Code, Not the Climate" FUD campaign coming next month

But to get back on topic; if Bitcoin's transparency was going to be its downfall, all these weird attempts and mental gymnastics to somehow make Bitcoin seem like a bad thing for people, wouldn't be needed at all.

That is 100% true. It might sound like some sort of conspiracy theory for some, however we all well know and have evidence for the fact that all governments are playing the propaganda game. Controlling thought is how you control people, and thats what they want. Control.

No matter how bad they paint a picture of Bitcoin, they might only achieve a slight slow-down of Bitcoin adoption. But the adoption itself is inevitable in reality. I think the governments of the world should know that by now.

However, never underestimate human stupidity...
2709  Economy / Gambling / Re: Gambling Brand Name Vs Site Functionality? Or Both? on: June 01, 2022, 07:01:55 PM
Over 100 Branding Experts voted for this domain as the most brandable gambling domain in a poll conducted at brand name pros.

Implying that the over 100 "Branding Experts" who voted for the aforementioned domain have any kind of responsibility for their votes nor some sort of moral objective in voting for them. Thats quite the implication.

I think the reality would rather be that 100 "Branding Experts" were paid, as they usually are, perhaps under the table even, that they would "vote" for the gamlbing domain in a poll conducted at "brand name pros".

Do you see a for-profit business model here?  I could see one.

Yes of course, they have serious responsibility towards their votes. This is how the process works.

Before any name is accepted for their independent evaluation, such name must possess these important characteristics and qualities: 1. Must be Pronounceable. 2. Must be Memorable. 3. Must be Brandable. 4. Must pass Radio Tests. 5. Must be less than 10 Characters long. 6. Must be a Popular TLD (preferably .com). 7. Must be Aesthetically Pleasing. 8. Must have no Trademark Issue.

If the name posses these characteristics, it will pass the initial evaluation and then goes into the voting poll where the Brand Experts will vote according to merits. The voting panels are made of

1. Branding Consultants.
2. UX/UI Design Professionals.
3. Brand Intellectual Property Lawyers.
4. Trademark Lawyers and Specialists.
5. Brand Domain Brokers.

Each individual will vote according to the merit of every name submitted in different categories. There's no incentive to vote for any domain because there's absolutely no gain in providing such incentives in the first place.

I hope these answers and helps clear your doubts

Thats all good and nice however the problem is that this entire voting process seems like a popularity vote for the best looking site and has a rather arbitrary set of voting categories and voters as well.

I assume these voting experts are not doing this for free? They are being paid? Are there any examples of website that they have voted down? Or are all their votes on the positive side?

I am quite distrustful of things like this. Unless the voters have some kind of reputation in the community, I would not put too much weight on their votes.
2710  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: LUNA 2.0 is live! on: June 01, 2022, 04:36:36 AM
Sorry for anyone hoping to recoup their pre-crash losses. It's trading around $5 presently after an encouraging but brief opening around $17.

https://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/terra-luna-v2/

Yeah and its going to be trading at 0 too, soon, I bet.

I have lost all tiny and possible trust in the LUNA project, its creators, advisors, financiers and fans.

After such a huge mishap, why would anyone in their right minds decide to invest in the same burning dumpster fire again? Its really not worth it. Save your money and invest into something more worthwhile.

Personally, LUNA is no go land for me.
2711  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: The digital ID for Gambling on: June 01, 2022, 04:15:42 AM
Apparently Denmark is all Set to Launch the new Digital ID rules for Gambling in the upcoming July. They have already been using some sort of identification but apparently this is new and improved and would apply for all the gamblers willing to submit their ID and use the services. EasyID is now going to be Replaced by MyID. The license holders of online casino would have to now integrate their systems in the manner that the government prefers. People are still waiting for an update but I would like to know what you think about the system of online ID? Integrating it with gambling might be saving some kids going on these sites but it might also be taking all the privacy away. What are your thoughts on this ?
Reference:
https://www.gamblinginsider.com/news/16594/denmark-to-introduce-new-digital-id-rules-in-july

Oh wow that is going to either really suck or be a massive improvement for the gambling world. With a Digital ID they can perhaps deal better with keeping out gambling addicts and children who are just curious to try gambling. I guess gambling addicted children can also fall into that category.

Since its coming out of Denmark we can expect they will at least somewhat respect human rights in matters of privacy.

I doubt that Denmark is trying to pull a fast one over their own citizens. They have too much of a good track record to do that. So lets see what happens!
2712  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: What's stopping companies making an actual space heater bitcoin miner for home? on: June 01, 2022, 03:28:07 AM
Well, its a nice idea but I think the main reason why miners want to cool their maschines is to keep it running efficiently and fast. Because as they heat up that can have an effect on the performance. That is not optimal for heating a room anyway. One effect that people who buy "gamer laptops" do not understand. Heat degrades electrical components. Although this becomes an optimal solution for people who live in very cold areas e.g Siberia and have many miners... Just as long the miners don't overheat at their specific room temperature requirements.

if you are gonna sell domain names, better post it on auctions or perhaps on Digital goods. no offence and just my opinion, the names don't really sound that good. sure, it is short, memorable, brandable etc... also, "flexi" doesn't really rhyme with "bet" because of the "i" at the end. anyway, as I said before it's just my opinion and if you want to sell your domain better post it on auctions or in digital goods.

2714  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: should I be concerned about the history of bitcoins when buying them ? on: May 30, 2022, 03:04:18 PM
So wait. Should from a law standpoint the exchange you bought those coins from hold some sort of legal responsibility to sell you clean coins and if they do not, they are the ones who would have to refund you for "bad coins"?

I am no lawyer and I am also not giving out any law advice. But if you register with an exchange you give them your KYC details which is from a procedure that the government uses as regulation against fraud and money laundering? In this case I expect that the government holds exchanges accountable. Especially if I read that part about Fraud correctly...
2715  Economy / Securities / Re: Angel Investor Needed on: May 30, 2022, 02:11:44 PM
Looking for Angel investment of approximately US$30,000, to be utilized in travelling to the primary markets for Coltan to meet buyers and close sales. The same trip will be used to pitch multiple projects in Real Estate, Mining and Energy to financiers and investors in Europe and Asia. When we close the first sale, the Angel will be reimbursed in full and also receive shares in the company(s) that will run the various projects so as to enjoy the benefit of believing in some random dreamer.

Now, instead of the money, you can participate by helping sell 35 Metric tonnes of this Coltan, assay report as shown below:

Our other projects in Real Estate, Petroleum and Mining are/will be located across Africa.

Welcome to our telegram group where we will answer all your questions.

Thank you.

** Edited to move the gemstones sales to the more relevant post here.

I have been part of a very similiar african project in the business of (planning to mine) diamonds and they needed only a small amount of capital for procuring equipment. They also tried to convince potential investors with an soil sample analysis. It did not end well and many people were not interested at all.

Your project reminds me a lot of that project. Especially the part of not presenting any kind of solid business plan. If you do not even have the travel funds then it is nothing but a rocky road ahead for you.

Also, because this has nothing to do with crypto nor does it need blockchain, I don't see a good investment opportunity here.

Sorry. Undecided
2716  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Could Bitcoin's transparency be its downfall? on: May 30, 2022, 12:31:55 AM
Excuse me, what happened to "Verify, don't trust"?

Bitcoin's transparency is one of the main points of Bitcoin. Which is why it already has something that fiat does not: Transparency. This does not mean no anonymity though. If you wanted to buy or obtain Bitcoins anonymously, you could do so. Easily. So don't doubt Bitcoin too much, as you might miss out on chances because you have started believing your own doubts.

I am in full faith on Bitcoin. Basically because I know how it works and why its unstoppable. Feel free to try to prove Bitcoin wrong.

2717  Other / Serious discussion / Re: Can a poor man get his chance to be rich in Crypto? on: May 29, 2022, 09:41:07 PM
I have always thought of Cryptocurrency to be a middle class and rich class' investment. You can take risks investing $10,000 or $100,000. Hell, even $1,000 can be an investment now and the rich man and the middle class can have that amount to spend. My question is, how about the poor guy? Does he have the opportunity to be able to turn his life around and become rich in crypto? I put this in the serious discussion so at least we can discuss this without promoting any specific coin. I have some struggling friends who I like to help but they have this life where their salary is only enough to feed themselves for the day and they can barely save $100 for other things. Let's be real, will he be able to get the life he wants with crypto? I appreciate your thoughts on this.

Let me reverse your question in order to put it into a different perspective: Can a poor man make the same profit % as the rich man?
2718  Other / Archival / Re: Why has bitcoin adoption failed in El Salvador? on: May 27, 2022, 11:46:23 PM
To some degree it is a bit strange to have this thread that proclaims that El Salvador's bitcoin adoption failed.. which seems to rely upon some mainstream bullshit talking points bashing bitcoin and then another fuller El Salvador thread that pre-existed this thread.. so why two threads?

Sure there have been some decent naysaying points brought up in this thread, yet the responsive posts that provided various reasons why such "failure" conclusion would be immature come off as way more convincing.

I just provided a post of Peter McCormick's second interview with Bukele in the other El Salvador bitcoin thread (here), which I would suggest any of the bitcoin and/or El Salvador naysayers should listen to that interview.

Basically this.

You guys need to stop spreading fud. Its how big Bitcoin investors buy your coins at a cheaper price. Surely that must somehow be clear to everyone with at least Bitcoin Veteran status? I guess the newbies get to learn the hard way, by losing their coins by shaving them away, flip flopping from buy to sell and sell to buy.

Its how I learned so I guess I can't really judge anyone at this point.

Just hodl your coins, our path to 100k has already started.  Roll Eyes

Why are you getting spooked by people who have no idea how Bitcoin works or what its advantages are? I see old generations who barely understand how to use the internet. El Salvador has been doing a crappy job of marketing Bitcoin to its people. Thats all it is. Adoption will be slow but we will see them warm up to Bitcoin. Especially the younger generations.

if a delicious pizza is something you guys want to see I will be making a fermented soft dough pizza with aged irish cheddar as well as some fresh mozarella (homemade). Do you guys know what pizza heaven is? I honestly do not think so! Not yet, anyway.

Give me some time I should upload on the 29th. The dough needs to ferment in the fridge for 2 days at 5 degrees celcius. Its so worth the wait though. Imagine Pizza hut dough but better. And I could infuse some basil into the dough.
2720  Other / Off-topic / Re: Do you Smoke? on: May 27, 2022, 08:52:11 PM
What do you think are the long term consequences of smoking Cigg or Weed.

Other than cancer.

I actually read the scientific paper on that. Certain cannabinoids do actually indeed cause cell death (cell apoptosis) in certain cancer tumors like brain tumors (Glioblastoma) but also possibly promote other tumor growth, primarily in testicles. Fair trade, if true? Hard to say.

I vape dry herb Cheesy Not as healthy as breathing fresh mountain air but much healthier alternative than combustion (burning the weed). #paxlife
