1821  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: is that guy still rummaging the dump? on: December 16, 2022, 11:06:46 AM
Do you guys remember that guy who well before btc had its first highs threw away a hard-disk with btc which became worth millions and he went to rummage the landfill looking for it and also offered a slice of btc to the city council if it helped him find it?

Is he still looking for it?  Roll Eyes    Cheesy   Cheesy

I might not be sure that I know of the guy you are talking about or which country he lives in but as far as I know, in most countries once something lands in the landfill, or even the trash container, that particular something, along with the trash, lawfully belongs to the city at that point? So why would the city not just take it as their own? If they could find it? Did they ever say how much BTC that guy lost?

If I made such a mistake I would be beating myself over it for years to come  Grin
1822  Economy / Economics / Re: Saving one third what you earn monthly is not that hard, isn't it ? on: December 16, 2022, 10:16:09 AM
If you are in twenties or early thirties and remain single, earn $3,000 after tax per month, you will probably save $1,000 if you, let's say, spend $500 to $800 on rental, a guest bedroom in a shared house/apartment, $500 on food, $50  on utilities, $150 on phone/internet bills, $400 on commuting costs or gas/maintainance if you have a used car, $200 on occasional entertainment or others. This $1,000 savings will allow you to invest or place a house down payment when time is ripe. Is this possible based on where you live ?

Well yes and no.

Your argument that it is easy to save only applies to people who are single AND earning a decent amount of money with which they can save 1/3rd for investing. But the truth is that most of the time, people, even single people, earn way less than that and are forced to spend almost each and every penny for food, rent, clothes and so on. Most of us have families we have to take care of and extra expenditures that we have to pay. Furthermore, its better to set aside some savings for emergency reasons rather than investment opportunities.

So really, it depends on where you live and how much you earn.
1823  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Just how bad is the bear market right now? on: December 16, 2022, 09:49:43 AM
Just how bad is the bear market right now?
Historically low prices have endured for a longer period of time in the present bear market cycle than in any other.

The "bear market" is a subjective view of the current market. Depending on which angle you are looking from, it could look bad but it could also look good. Thats why I always look at the prices from a yearly chart perspective. If you invested 1 year ago, would the current price be a profit to you? If yes, then the bear market is not as bad.

We have seen worse, scary dips and dumps in the past. The current corrections are very slow and can be avoided if you check the prices at least daily. Back a few years ago you would need to keep an eye on the price every second hour in order not to lose half your money in a surprise dump.

The market is not as bad as it used to be. Certainly not as scary.

1824  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin is on the Verge To Slice Through $30,000 on: December 16, 2022, 09:18:29 AM
After retaining a extremely good upswing during the previous day’s trade, the Bitcoin rate corrects itself barely by means of dropping with the aid of more than 4%. While the buying and selling extent remains rather high, the possibility of mounted selling pressure over the token since the early training hours.

BTC Price Prediction
  • The bitcoin price prediction by coinpedia is $43,959.19. In contrast, the price of the star crypto could sink to a low of $23,218.00.
  • However, a popular crypto analyst, Micheal van de Poppe, in his new video believes that the BTC prices still can reach $30,000 in the near future.
  • The BTC price is expected to drop back to the $17,500 and $17,700 range after reaching the monthly highs at $18,000 for 2022 December.

Will BTC close to monthly trade on a bearish note?

You know there is a place in this forum where you can make speculations about Bitcoin price... It is a sub-forum called Speculation - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=57.0

feel free to post your price speculations there. Although without a more in depth analysis explanation I doubt that anybody will take your prediction very seriously. I would recommend you add charts and serious sources as well as explaining your logic in a more detailed fashion.

Having said that, I strongly believe that Bitcoin will be over 100k in the near future. A lot of people here think the same and they have even provided reasons why it will be so. My favorite chart which points towards 100k is the logarithmic chart.

1825  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Sam Bankman-Fried Arrested In The Bahamas, Set For 'Prompt' Extradition After US on: December 16, 2022, 07:25:48 AM

If convicted, what could SBF get for vaporizing 10B USD? Perhaps the rest of his life?

Well if you take the history of billionaire criminals into account then he will probably be a free man within weeks or months, even if he were to be convicted lawfully (as he should be). Justice usually fails when bribed.

Worst case scenario for him: he will spend a couple of years in a luxury prison which cannot even be called a real prison, or under "house arrest". He probably has some money hidden away in some obscure accounts/addresses that nobody knows even exist.

He deserves way way worse. He is a thief. A rich thief. All the evidence is there but nobody prosecutes the rich (as long as they are "rich enough")
1826  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Fees on Dormant Accounts on Crypto Gambling Platforms on: December 16, 2022, 07:04:40 AM
Up until now I have never heard of anyone losing their money through some "dormancy fee" on any crypto gambling platforms. I am not even sure if that is entirely legal? Why would the gambling casinos get to confiscate somebodies funds just because they have not been active for over a year? 10 years, maybe 20 seem like a reasonable option but even then its theft, basically. Really disappointing.

A fee is one thing but taking ALL the money? Thats not fair nor justified. But then again, I am against storing funds on a centralized platform in the first place. Whether a crypto exchange or a crypto gambling casino, they will always try to sneak your money away from you for complete nonsense reasons.
1827  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 99% of People Will Lose Crypto in Self Custody on: December 16, 2022, 06:30:17 AM
Recently, when people are withdrawing their money to personalized wallets, CZ says that  out of these people 99% of them will lose money, as only 1% of the people are capable of handling the non-custodial wallets.

‘99% of People' Will Lose Crypto Storing in Self-Custody: Binance CEO Changpeng Zhao

He may be right because most people do not understand the risk, if they are not careful they could lose all their crypto.  Some may lose their private keys and others may connect their wallet at scam sites and they will be deprived of their funds.

Education and understanding of non-custodial wallets is necessary.  A lot of people have move funds out of binance recently, lets see if they know how to safeguard their bitcoin/ altcoins in these wallets.

Oh please. He is obviously the wrong person to listen to when it comes to where you should or should not store your crypto. He advocates for a centralized exchange. A concept which is backwards and should not exist when it comes to decentralization. I certainly will not be listening to him or any other CEX CEO in matters concerning where/who I should or should not trust with holding my money.

And where did he get the number 99%? Not only is it obviously wrong, its also manipulative. As if he actually did the math on that instead of pulling a number out of his behind.

Never trust an exchange with your money!
1828  Economy / Economics / Re: Will Nuclear Fusion be a reality in the next decade? on: December 15, 2022, 06:48:19 PM
I get that everyone is all giddy and excited about the latest news of a breakthrough (getting more energy output than input in nuclear fusion) but we are still far from anything feasibly self sustaining. Lets not forget the two main issues:

1. Perpetual, uninterrupted fusion without melting the inner workings of the reactor and/or creating byproducts which hinder the fusion process. (Because it gets hot. Really hot.) We used to count the seconds, now we count the minutes. In the near future, reactors will be able to run for hours.

2. The fuel required for fusion is not that readily available to us in abundant quantities, (unlike fossil fuels or radioactive ore) and we can't get more energy out of fusion than we put in. Thats just basic physics. (If we make the fuel then we are putting the same amount of energy into the process of making the fuel (at minimum) as the energy we are getting out of the fusion itself. So that won't work.

The current hope is that we can mine the Helium-3 on the moon and use that for fuel.

1829  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: turned gambler after investing in BTC or investor turned gambler? on: December 15, 2022, 06:17:32 PM
This is just a question got from someone I hangout with yesterday when I introduced her to investing in BTC. She is 50+ but managed a busy small hotel and has a son who had been playing games on the computer all the time. After some discussion, I advised her to just remind the son not to gamble the BTC.

So she asked how I end up gambling online. I'm not totally a gambler at all, I started investing and somehow stray as I'm trying to win some.
She began to worry since her son is on the computer all the time and might gamble upon learning the BTC can be gambled.

Which one has a high possibility of happening, a gamer eventually becomes a gambler or an investor turns into a gambler?
But first, answer the poll which are you. Are you a gambler that become an investor or an investor that turned into a gambler?

As far as the question of investing turning people into gamblers goes, I think it seems very possible. But not just because of Bitcoin but rather the action of investing into something. That action alone is very similar to gambling because it has unknowable risks of losing money but also a probability of making money. Especially if said person starts trying out Daytrading and then trading derivatives... But the same can be said for investing in regular stocks. So bottom line the answer would be yes and no, you could become a gambler if you enjoyed the risky feeling of investing. But no, its not the fault of Bitcoin.

The other way around seems likely too, but on a lesser degree. I doubt investing is as fun as gambling is to a gambler. In fact, investing might seem long and boring to someone who is used to winning/losing instantly.
1830  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Can DeFi still be trusted?? on: December 15, 2022, 02:40:54 PM
The only reason why Defi is acceptable in the eyes of most coiners is the fact that its so easy to use to swap for wrapped tokens. That way you can keep your funds out of an exchange and be completely self reliant. No third party is involved in your trades or your wallet holdings.

The bad news is that the underlying blockchain (BEP20 or ERC20 for example) is not as trustworthy or reliable as Bitcoin blockchain. And obviously it is not one and the same thing.

Its like giving someone a piece of paper with "1 Bitcoin" written on it and the person reassures you that that paper can be traded in for 1 Bitcoin at any time, as the piece of paper itself has an underlying Bitcoin reserve value. But its still not 1 Bitcoin. Just a voucher for 1 Bitcoin.

Should the underlying DeFI's blockchain fail for some reason, your wrapped token will become worthless and nobody will trade you 1 Bitcoin for it....

So whether or not you want to trust Defi is up to you. But one thing is certain: DeFi itself is trustless and verifiable. Just not without risk, depending on which blockchain you use.
1831  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Tipping during live slot, or casino games. on: December 15, 2022, 11:40:53 AM

How much do you tip a slot machine attendant?
For those who visit and still enjoy the services of these live casino operators, am curious as to know how you tip the attenders. Do you tip only when you are winning and how much is too much tip to give? Also, I do not think online casinos even have this option, but if there is, can you share?

In most parts of US, any payout of more than $1,200 is paid in person by the slot floor person. The tipping here starts with a minimum amount of $20 and can be up between 3-10 percent of the jackpot reward. It however, depends on the discretion of the customer.

Do you think it is necessary to give tips or it is just a tradition that is required?

I think tipping is mostly an American custom which most international people tend to ignore. Personally, I am ok with tipping, as a reward, if they did an extraordinary job or went the extra mile just for you. Otherwise there is no point. And quite right too! Why would you give someone a reward for no reason? There has to be a good reason, if you ask me.

Furthermore as far as live casinos are concerned, I am not a huge fan of them. It seems rather unnecessary and in smaller, unknown casinos a quite risky way to play. A game should be provably fair and have no/as few ways to exploit as possible. Both from the side of the gamblers and the casino owners.

If you are betting hundreds of thousands and have a lot of money, then tipping is not an issue.
1832  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Is your local game includes in online casino ? on: December 15, 2022, 11:07:02 AM
I think there is a limit to which games can and cannot be transformed into a gambling version for casinos. For example, you cannot make chess into a gambling game. The reason is very simple. It is a game which can be algorithmically exploited by simple code bots. Thats why computers will beat even the best master chess players in the world. The game obviously needs a probabilistic nature to it. Otherwise how would it be gambling?

Casinos are probably aware of this and are very wary of which games they do and do not introduce to us.  Undecided
1833  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Why every casino got bad habits? on: December 14, 2022, 03:36:50 PM
If you have a look at the scam accusation section, you will find that no casino has a good reputation there. Each and every casino which has their ANN thread here, has at least one complaint against them; sometimes confiscated funds, delayed withdrawal, not paying the winning, freezing account etc. Why this is the principal of all the casinos? Why they can't operate without having any issues? They always do this shit; who knows what has been done with people who don't know how to deal with such a casino. Can you show me a thread that never had any reputation issues on this forum?

I believe that most of the scam accusations against casinos are just frustrated gamblers who made a big loss and are looking for a way to vent. And what better way than besmirch the reputation of the online gambling casino which took all their money? Its a bit silly but understandably quite a human reaction. That being said, sometimes there are scam casinos that get what they deserve when somebody exposes their scam. But that happens much more rarely than disgruntled gamblers letting off steam. So you should take any scam accusation, especially those without proof, with a grain of salt.
1834  Economy / Gambling / Re: MegaPari is nominated for the EGR Nordics Awards 2023 - Bonus inside on: December 14, 2022, 11:01:23 AM
Congrats to MegaPari for the EG Nordics Award 2023 nomination! I personally have not known about this i-Gaming award but I hope when they announce the winners, there will be some good news for MegaPari Smiley

I am a bit confused on your website there is welcome bonus "on your 1st deposit up to 100 EUR" but on the right side it says "register and receive 100 Euro right now".

So do I have to deposit more than 100 Euro or less to receive the 100 Euro bonus or do I only have to register? OR do I register and then deposit ANY amount of Euros to receive the 100 Euro bonus?
1835  Economy / Economics / Re: This could be the biggest news in 2022 on: December 14, 2022, 08:03:23 AM
Crypto holding company by the name of Bitcoin Group are on the move to buy the world oldest bank for approximately 15 million dollars .

The name of the bank is Bankhaus von der Heydt which was founded in 1754, the deal is already signed but the reason for this post is to understand where this is going.

Banks aren't ready to buy Bitcoin but now Bitcoin is buying bank? This is the most mind-blowing news of the year, I don't know about you guys. Here you go if you want to read more

https://cryptoslate.com/bitcoin-group-set-to-acquire-germans-oldest-bank-for-over-15m/

This is nowhere near "biggest news of 2022". I did read about this a few days ago and it was nothing special. 15 Million dollars are a teeny tiny blimp and the bank itself had nothing going for it except its reputation of being very very old. So there is absolutely no need to start connecting things that are not there in order to build up a large conspiracy theory which ends up being a giant nothing-burger.

If anything the gesture was symbolic or a bad investment decision. It has got to be one of those two things, I believe.
1836  Economy / Gambling / Re: Consider open live casino (street gambling games) on: December 14, 2022, 06:30:42 AM
There ia the big evolution that allow live play roullete and black jack and more.

I consider bw the first one to open live casino street games.

The one that simple players play like 24 (alternatove to roullete)

Coin flip and more all broadcast from thr streets

What you think?

Edit; i dont think all understand here what live casino games means.

If you dont understand  what is live gamre watch endoephina is mean the bets ard played live by real person every few seconds. (Real blackjack dealer, real roulletr dealer etc)

So if you think it can be rigged it doesnt make sense. Live casino providers dont gain anything from rigging a game t

For example if lose win 5k hand live black in stake.com by evolultion provider. Evoulution gain about 0.5%.
Stake.com gain the most.

Livecasino providers dont gain shit fron rigging games this why they are much better option than playing on a regular self made casino games. Is more trusty way to gamble.

Live casinos, in my opinion, are less secure than their virtual reality cousins and are therefore more or less heading towards redundancy. I also do not trust a lot of small time live casinos (Except I do trust live casinos which have been audited and offered by big, well known casinos).

Its not that live casino providers "don't gain shit from rigging games" (although, lets be honest, they do!) It just worries me how easy it is to rig live games. We as the Bitcoin community have always preferred to verify over trust. So why should we trust an older version of gambling? I just do not understand it.

1838  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Nobel prize for Satoshi. on: December 13, 2022, 03:33:32 AM
I think you guys mean the Turing Award, not the Nobel Prize? Because there is no Nobel Prize for computer science. It does not exist. The Turing Award is however the "Computer science Nobel Prize" or is at least regarded as highly. If you were to ask me, I would say Satoshi Nakamoto, whoever and wherever he might be, we applaud him for his amazing achievement!  Grin Wink Cheesy Because computer science is indeed a science. A branch of experimental mathematics, like physics but more meta, you could say. It does not get the respect it deserves due to being a new science.
