I agree with goldkingcoiner, this isn't some liberal issue where you want freedom of being hacked if you are not careful type of deal, that can't be done, it's just not normal and shouldn't be the issue. I believe that we shouldn't be given that option and 2FA should be forced to players so that it would be safe, otherwise you are just being horrible about the situation.

I agree that not having the freedom to do whatever you want is upsetting for some people, but this is there to protect you and if it's a good intention thing then you should be able to understand why it was done. It's not much work neither, setting it up takes maybe 1 minute max, and it takes extra 15 seconds to login.

While it would be better that sites would enforce 2FA, I don't think that any site will do it. To be honest, I only implemented 2FA after I read some stories here on this forum who got hacked and lost a lot money but sometimes people don't realize the danger.

Would it not be more prudent to demand 2FA? All it is is a minor inconvenience and 15 seconds longer (at most, if you are slow moving) log in times. Are we really going to equate that to a breach of your freedom? It does not even come close!

Lets use your logic against you to make my point a bit more clearer:

If an exchange or casino website demands you must make an account password with letters, numbers and special characters, is that considered a breach of your freedom? Its really the same comparable inconvenience.

So I am 100% pro 2FA.  I think everyone else should be too. It has no downsides.

Are tehy calling Hal Finney a Faketoshi?

This is pathetic... he never claimed to be Satoshi.

https://coingeek.com/faketoshi-series-hal-finney-the-men-who-are-not-satoshi-part-3/

Wow. Absolutely no respect for the dead. I bet they did not even research this man.

They needed to make a list for their shit article so they decided to pad the story with some home-made BS. If they made a real list the only name on it would be Craig Wright.

Katrina Bookman was playing the slots at the Resorts World Casino in Jamaica, Queens when she secured what would have been the largest slot machine jackpot in US history - $42,949,672 (£35.4m). She took a selfie with the machine to mark the moment, and later said her whole body went 'numb' when she saw the life-changing figure. Bookman was told to come back the next day to discuss her winnings, but when she asked an employee what she'd be walking away with, he responded: "You didn't win nothing." The New York State Gaming Commission said Bookman’s machine had malfunctioned, and that she'd actually won just $2.25 (£1.86).The machine had a disclaimer stating 'malfunctions void all pays and plays', and as a result the commission said that they were required by law to give Bookman only what she'd actually won.

Some Casinos are just plain fraudulent. So this woman visited a casino, play slot and won $43million. She took a selfie with the amount displayed on the machine. The casino saw it and told her to return the next day so they could talk about the winnings. Next day she returned. Story changed. She was told the machine had malfunctioned and therefore it was what was responsible for the winnings. They went ahead to offer her a complimentary steak dinner. I got so livid reading this story.

Isn't this just the stupidest reason not to give her her winnings?
Couldn't they have known that their so-called machine was faulty before letting gamblers use it?
How could they do this to her?

I have been hearing about this all day today. The poor woman does not deserve such a roller coaster of emotion. Even if she did not win the money she should still sue and get money for having been put through that ordeal by a faulty machine, which the mentioned casino has a duty of responsibility for. Their machine, their responsibility.

By the same thought: Can the casinos claim that winnings are undeserved when a human shuffles the cards the wrong way at the blackjack table? just because he was distracted or intoxicated?

Although by that very same thought, should she not get to keep the winnings? Whether it was faulty or not has to be proven. They cannot make claims without evidence. So where exactly is the evidence?

I would vote that she keeps the winnings.

Looks like Bitcoin is back on the menu, boys!

Mmm.. Bitcoin chocolate.

Being on the menu does not sound good.

It sounds scary.

We humans sacrifice lives because the menu needs to taste good. So every menu with meat is basically "being on the menu", both literally and conceptually for the animal. Now that's scary.

But it is all a matter of perspective. What's normal for the spider is chaos for the fly.

1725  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Oh boy, I've got wallet.dat on: January 11, 2023, 12:14:02 AM
The coins are still there. I guess I can try some dates

I would start with
2009-01-09 (Bitcoin's first transaction date)
2016-05-05 (the date that wallet got funded at)

Make sure you do tests offline, or if you are knowledgeable enough, on a live OS, still offline. Hacks are really a thing and 10BTC is an overly good looking amount.
Make sure you know how your father was writing the dates (mm/dd/yyyy. dd.mm.yyyy, yyyy-mm-dd or other ways)
Beware of people that may offer you help in private, some may be scammers.
Good luck.

He could just brute-force the password with a simple few lines of script. I mean there are only so many days since Bitcoin has come into existence. If you try out them all eventually you will get it. I do not think that will even take him all night. Unless he does not know how to automate the process in which case he can still spend a couple of days trying out every date.

I mean its been 5548 days so thats what, a bit over 15 and a half hours? 2 days full-time and done. Boom, $174k. Or like 2 minutes if you automate the task...

Hopefully its not his fathers cryptic way of remembering an arbitrary date which has nothing to do with Bitcoin. Although, even if that would take you longer, it would still be perfectly do-able.

Bullish Signal: Bitcoin Whales Go On 20,000 BTC Buying Spree

Quote
Data from on-chain aggregator Santiment shows that large bitcoin whales holding between 1,000-10,000 BTC are accelerating their accumulation. Over the last five days, these large investors have added more than 20,000 BTC to their balances, making it a significant accumulation trend.

1727  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin can be banned or stopped by governments on: January 10, 2023, 05:21:30 PM
How many times has India banned crypto now? Is anyone counting?

There are two countries who are perpetually banning and rebanning Bitcoin as well as all crypto. China and India. And has that worked? No. Even North Korea with their 25 mill population cannot stop Bitcoin. No matter how hard they try, neither can the (supposedly) most powerful country in the world- United States of America.

So what chance does India have? Especially with their population size and lack of dictatorial government?

Nobody can stop you from mining Bitcoin. Nobody can stop you from sending it to other wallets.

1728  Economy / Gambling / Re: Roobet.com | Crypto’s Fastest Growing Casino 🦘 on: January 10, 2023, 04:58:29 PM
I think it should be mandatory for everyone who wants to gamble. Everytime you give people a choice whether or not they wish to implement and use a security feature, most people would rather choose the more comfortable and convenient way to gamble. Without additional security steps.

And when their lack of security eventually becomes a problem and they find out that they have lost a lot of money to some hacker, they suddenly become all uppity and start blaming the casino for not forcing protection on them or not protecting them enough.

Which of course is complete BS.
Enforcing mandatory KYC is a bad decision which is why almost all sites provide that choice to their users to provide complete freedom in this matter to them. Most users don't use 2FA for various reasons.

If they lose money to hackers, the casino is 100% at fault despite not using 2FA since their security system was weak and penetrable. Blaming victims for not using 2FA in this case is utter nonsense.

2FA is just an optional security measure and isn't the primary security measure of the site.

KYC and 2FA are two things that have nothing to do with each other. KYC is when the customer gives the platform (in this specific example, a crypto-exchange or crypto casino) his/her details and provides evidence in the form of government ID and other official documents that he/she are who he/she says they are.

While 2FA is not KYC but it is a security function which, for example,  requires you to log in with extra verification (E-Mail or Google Authentication for example).

So the only way a hacker who has access to your account password can gain access is by confirming it with another security measure (2FA). This makes your log ins much more secure.
1729  Other / Politics & Society / Re: How pessimistic do you feel about the new year of 2023 ? on: January 10, 2023, 03:23:44 PM
2022 is an extraordinary year. Because of this, we have infinite expectations for the upcoming 2023. The haze of war dissipates with the new year. Global economic growth next year will lack momentum, but inflationary pressures will drop a lot.

I think there is a lot that we can expect in 2023. Seeing as the world news kept escalating from year to year the last few years. First covid, then war and now what, aliens? Personally I hope so.

But there has always been unjust wars being fought every year somewhere in the world. Why is the world concentrating on Russia so much? I think because its the only country with nukes to do what other, smaller dictatorships have been doing conventionally. It just seems like it is a bigger threat this time.

But most likely the news is going to find something negative to shine the spotlight on in 2023.  Negative news is always the most read news.

Good news for the Sportsbet partner: each time Gooners met Citizens in FA Cup for the past 100 years, they went on to win the final!

Cue SB specials... hint nudge Wink
Interesting fact, unfortunately heavily influenced by the fact Arsenal was much better team troughout the history. Last couple of years it was the other way around but I don't remember if they played then.

Great game, and I am expecting some mouth watering football in it.

By the way Saka got injured in their last cup game. He walked off the pitch so hopefully nothing serious.

I would not really say that much. He did not really walk off the pitch as much as hobble off slowly. Good thing it was already in the 75th minute of the match and his injury did not cause Arsenal to lose the game. Areta said he was fine when he was questioned in the press interview after the game. Although if I am wrong (which I really hope that I am not), then I just hope they can close the deal with Mudryk as soon as possible (if they have not done so already).

Saka is a pro, though. It will take more than a small injury to keep him out.
1731  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: A superstitious strategy? on: January 09, 2023, 09:38:56 PM
Most gamblers must have went through this, sometimes luck appears to be your side specially in games like casino war or dice.

Today, morning I was playing casino war, I just use martingale - I know it's lame strategy. But I won most of time.

Then later at noon, luck just didn't appear to be on my side. A constant losses with win every once in a while to recoup the losses and then losing streak, all funds gone.

Now, let's be some superstitious and say, if you play only when luck appears to be on your side, would you call that a good strategy?

If luck was something that was easy to get, or had algorithmic instructions which we could follow in order to create a lucky event, I think physicists probably might have noticed already. Personally until we find a way to replicate lucky events 100% every time, I will not believe in luck. But who knows what superstition actually is and what it is not? Perhaps in the far or near future we could discover luck is actually an integral part of physics and maybe we will even figure out how to manipulate luck.

Best not to count too much on coincidences to start boasting of having discovered a luck formula.  Roll Eyes
1732  Other / Archival / Re: [POLL]What do you expect from Bitcoin in 2023? on: January 09, 2023, 04:42:47 PM
I do not expect us to have reached the bottom just yet, but only because I expect the whales to use the FUD to their own advantage and keep pushing the price down more. But the good news is that we will definitely see a giant rubberband effect once the price is so oversold that the whales start the buying frenzy. It is quite easy to see because thats exactly what has happened in the past. Everytime we see a large dump, we will see whales spreading doom and gloom everywhere.
1733  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: January 09, 2023, 04:38:00 PM
Why are you guys so negative? Bitcoin is going up. Fill up your bags and stop whining about having to work until your investment pays off. A long term investment is called such because it is long term.

Lets forget about the get rich quick dream and concentrate on the get rich with Bitcoin in the future dream.

We all know how long it took for Bitcoin to get where it is now, and the truth is, it is nowhere near where it will be in the future. So lets not give up hope and prepare to put those McDonalds hats back on (temporarily).
1734  Economy / Gambling / Re: Roobet.com | Crypto’s Fastest Growing Casino 🦘 on: January 09, 2023, 04:25:43 PM
<snip>
Since most of the trusted gambling sites are centralized like Roobet, we need to deposit some money on the gambling site and therefore it is always better to have additional layer for security like 2fa.
Security feature like 2fa is always very useful for accounts that are related to money and sensitive information. Thus, a site like Roobet (a casino fits that).
However, 2fa is most of the time a preference. It will be depending on the user if he/she wants to maximize the account security that Roobet is offering. Personally, I would like to have that on transactions like withdrawals.

I think feature like 2fa should not be made mandatory and should be keep as an optional. Those who want to implement they can have this option while others who are happy with additional security, let them how they want to control the account.

There are gamblers who have very less funds on the gambling sites and others who may not want the hassle of 2fa, let them how they want to operate their account.

Perhaps having a feature like that should be mandatory considering the fact that we are getting brut forced many times. Look at the 2022, so many attacks on highly secured exchangers, yet they failed to overcome the hackers and gave away the money and personal data just like that. Whether it is hospital in Romania or India, OR its a gambling site, we should have the additional security measures up and running all the time.

In fact for small gamblers it should be mandatory because we already have less funds and they would be viable for stealing without security. Could be oouch movement for us to see them go.

If you follow crypto news, you might be aware about solana dog shitcoin called "BONK" is up 900% the past week . If you are thinking to invest in this coin, let me share an important fact regarding this coin. The top 20 holders 50% of the coin.

You can yourself check this here
https://solscan.io/token/DezXAZ8z7PnrnRJjz3wXBoRgixCa6xjnB7YaB1pPB263#holders

So, it is obvious that they will eventually dump it. Those who are investing seeing the dramtic increase in prices will loose all their investment when it dumps.

Yeah it definitely has all the makings of a pump and dump. 1000% up now. Seriously? We are supposed to believe that bonk, with a market cap of under 30 mill. (which still has not changed) is the next big thing? Oh please. Its obvious that the developers poured that money in, themselves. They are waiting patiently until enough people buy their shitcoin at which point, they will screw everyone over.

Not trustworthy at all!

Shame on all the writers like coindesk that put this scammy shit on their front page!
1736  Economy / Gambling / Re: Duelbits.com | Casino & Sportsbook | VIP | Instant withdrawals! on: January 08, 2023, 09:40:27 PM
Yeah, and cryptocurrency exchanges arent supposed to be used as bank also, but we all know how people care about that.

I dont intend to keep BTC on a gambling platform for ages. But tell me, how often you see people people deposit>gamble>withdraw their funds? Usually they make a deposit and keep it on a platform until they win enough or lose. I think a lot just keep their funds there until they win the amount they have set as a goal.

I can't see them because I do not have spyware installed on anyone's pc or mobile gadget to track down their activity. Grin  I am just stating scenario that I always do whenever I am playing in any gambling platform.  I know many people keep their funds in the casino but I don't.

This is exactly the problem. Too many people trust in centralized finance instead of decentralized finance and custodial instead of non-custodial wallets. The feeling that money is safer in someone else's hands other than yours is not true. But people still believe in their "gut feeling" of trusting a third party with their coins. Not a smart move, to be honest.

Furthermore, it should be noted that casinos make it hard to gamble, withdraw, gamble withdraw and so on. Either you shave off a lot of money in withdrawal fees, or you could make the casino in question suspicious as to what you are trying to do.

I believe decentralized, non-custodial gambling is the future.

Anyone help me to understand what is bitcoin SV

I know a little but researching on web will take much time
and you guys are awesome explain everything in very best way then me[/color]

Bitcoin SV is an Altcoin which many Bitcoiners regard as a scam. Its founder, Craig Wright (referred to as Faketoshi by many because he claims he is Satoshi but cannot provide evidence for this -and yet he wishes to patent Bitcoin for himself) has also been accused of multiple wrongdoings. He has gone to court over this issue and is now not taken seriously by the crypto community. I would avoid Bitcoin SV and buy the real Bitcoin instead.

You really should be extensively careful of where you decide to put your money. You can ask around in the community and you will not find many people who understand or endorse Bitcoin SV.

It is rumored that the Bitcoin SV blockchain has neferious back-doors to freeze/steal your money from you out of your own wallet.

If you ask me, Faketoshi definitely deserves his title of fraudster.

1739  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: January 07, 2023, 01:19:23 PM

I cant decide what to do with the new space above the new garage....  (thank you bitcoin)
A studio to record really bad songs? (Jay and marcus would like that)
An indoor grow room to produce badass, stinky, sticky-icky? (idk, I don't indulge and I currently have a surplus)
Or something I just thought of tonight over a couple of beers...
A billiards table to play billiards or snooker. (not that retarded American eight ball crap)
I kid... I always play eight ball on a pool table. It's what everyone knows.
Albeit, my late dear old dad taught me 3 ball billiards and snooker...the real deal, imo, when it comes to games on a pool billiard table.

And now I'm waiting for my manic trolling Greek buddy to post a big, long flaming toxic diatribe of split up quotes and one line replies he thinks are clever,
designed to bolster his "legend hero* in his own mind" status. (*apparently, he had to start a new account. I cant imagine why...)
As he ages, he will come to realize how foolish his posts are.  Or maybe not, who knows if it's permanent brain damage?

GO BITCOIN

How about a home-pub and microbrewery? I am sure you could easily also fit in a pool table.
1740  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why do people store their cryptocurrency on exchanges? on: January 06, 2023, 10:59:10 PM
I am in the process of purchasing a Ledger Nano offline wallet and it got me thinking about why people store their digital assets on crypto exchanges.

These exchanges are susceptible to hacking, insolvency/bankruptcy, misuse of customer funds (FTX) etc.

What would happen if Binance got hacked tomorrow and lost the majority of its cryptocurrency? Would they be able to reimburse customers or would they become insolvent?

I asked my close group of friends how many store their assets on exchanges and only 1 out of 6 uses an offline wallet.

The recent incident with Luke Dashjr confirms that you are always at risk of being hacked no matter how vigilant you are.

Will give my thoughts on the Ledger Nano once I receive it.

I do not think that most people truly understand the spirit and motivation behind cryptocurrency, especially Bitcoin. Its about taking away the power that others have over our money and our life by decentralization, trust-less payments and making your money your own responsibility.

But for some people, this responsibility is too much so they would rather outsource it. Whether for convenience or just because they do not trust themselves with holding on to their own money, people still run to the exchanges and hand over all their money.

Its a lazy and sad excuse but at some point, when their money is taken away from them, they will understand the spirit of crypto. Then perhaps they will become true hodlers.

Suffice it to say, we need to push decentralization and decentralized tech much much harder. People are definitely starting to wake up. Cool
