321  Other / Off-topic / Re: What would you do if you received 20 bitcoins? on: August 13, 2014, 08:15:32 PM
I will hold it until the price is $50,000 per bitcoin and then sell it.  Smiley

If BTC reaches that high, it is surely on mainstream adoption. Why would you then want to sell it?

Install a Client

Download the one-click Nxt Wallet for Mac and Windows: Nxt Wallet.

clicking on Nxt Wallet takes you to http://nxt.org/client-download but there's no download button...unless I can't see it for looking  Smiley

That is the right link: http://nxtra.org/nxt-wallet/

Download this, then after you downloaded the blockchain, it will ask you to upgrade to the newest version, you should do the second upgrade before the end of the week!

Why take two steps?

You can D/L directly NRS 1.2.4. But I suggest this one, since it includes the mutligateway:

http://multigateway.org/#sec_downloads

True, I just like the nxtra site, it is Wesleyh official site Smiley

Why not use high power wifi antenna? Some powerful enough can reach up to 22 miles.

More expensive, half the fun!
325  Economy / Speculation / Re: Final capitulation crash incoming, drop your bags & hope now! on: August 13, 2014, 08:00:27 PM
Well it does seem like there's finally some action. Unfortunately the price is going the wrong way and I don't see any news about why. Alt coin holders are saying their coins are dropping more though.

Alts are flat out getting pummeled.  Of course, there isn't any kind of agreed-upon index, but based on some concepts I've been messing around with, if you subtract out BTC and LTC, the rest of the alt market is down 20-30% over the last week.

Right now, TOTAL crypto market cap is 7.905 billion.  BTC and LTC make up more than $7.6 billion. EVERYTHING else combined...hundreds of alts, don't combine to make $300mm in cap.

That is partly due to 3 big IPOs running atm. Ethereum, StorJ and Syscoin.

There are some people claiming it's because of those IPOs, but wouldn't that just dry out the supply? It would only crash the market if those coins got sold by the people behind those IPOs, and the Ethereum coins haven't moved so far, have they?

Many people have all their BTC locked up in alts, so to participate in an IPO they sell their coins to get BTC. Thus creating downward pressure.
I don't think many people have their BTC locked up in altcoins as the market cap for all alts is very small when compared to BTC. I also think this would be an inaccurate statement as prices of alts are very unstable so, in terms of BTC their value can drop significantly.

My statement was completely irrelevant apparently. I thought this thread was about the downfall of alts Cheesy

I posted in 2 threads and mixed them up! Sorry guys.
326  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Does martingale really works? on: August 13, 2014, 07:58:42 PM
Still people try martingale constantly. I am watching primedice and dicebitco.in and people use the bots (or manually) and grind away martingale for 10000s of bets. I guess they like the fact that they constantly win money until the big bang.

If you deposit 1 BTC and martingale from 1 satoshi, doubling on loss, you will probably never reach a long enough losing streak to bust. It takes around 100 million bets on average (very roughly).

Still, if everyone did the same, an unlucky few would bust, and that would pay for all the small gains made by everyone else.

So even when a strategy is overwhelmingly likely to result in a gain for individual players, it's still a net positive for the house too.

Even if martingale fails in theory with an infinite number of rolls*, in practice you can only make a limited number of rolls (even if you roll through all your life) and the number of players is limited at that. So the chances of losing deposit may still be lower then the chances of winning for every player in particular and the whole group in general (provided that they don't exceed their individual limits of total rolls determined by balance and the number of players). In this case the house will have a net loss even if some of the players lose in the end... Cool

*in fact, this is the only case about which you can say anything specific without taking into account other factors (like total number of rolls and players)

If you bet 100 to win 1 your chances of  winning are greater than your chances of losing but you have a negative expectation because the house has an edge, it is the same with the martingale : you can bet a lot to win a little and you are likely to win but it is still a bad bet because you have a negative expectation

If you can make 100,000$ to play once the russian roulette with a 6bullets revolver you have 5/6 chances to win but it is still a bad bet because you are risking too much

Negative expectation is based, well, on the expectation that you will continue to play indefinitely long. As long as it is not that long (which is always the case since no one can bet indefinitely long), things change drastically. Whether it is worth the gamble is not strictly relevant to the question... Cool

Also, if you bet 100, you could win up to 100 (100 when you make just one bet for a full amount) in a 49.5% game, right? Wink

You don't know what expectation means. And please don't say that it can mean different things.... it is a definition.

CHANCE*PAYOUT= EXPECTED VALUE
if you win more than your expected value, you are OVER the average as I said before. And vice versa.

Also, good job in trying to twist dooglus words. You are on of the best examples of GAMBLERS FALLACY.
327  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: How to Grow BTC Without take a BIG RISK ? on: August 13, 2014, 07:55:26 PM
So, I have a serious question. How can I increase my BTC without BIG risk?
I just know with.

- Extremely high volatility Speculation Trading ( High Risk -- High Reward )
- Gambling ( High Risk - High Reward - Experience and factor luck ONLY)
- Providing a service like in cex.io ? ( the price its joke ) , Service Contract for 5 years ? ( not interested . i have personal reason )
- High volatility Speculation Trading ( middle risk --- middle reward -- )

Any other ways to increase my money step by step little bit without any risk?

Please give you best opinions. Thanks

U missed the most lucrative one for non-tech people. Invest in a Bitcoin Startup.

It is incredible hard to find a way to invest into first round startup funding. The investment opportunities that are open for the public are mostly extremely shitty.

Real eyes realize Real lies. U should not bother to ask a second Q to a startup before investing, but u should not negate any just because u dont understand the business model.

So you are saying that not all public offerings are shit? Do you have any example of an Cryto security IPO (of a startup ) that was first round offering and successful?
328  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Stellar on: August 13, 2014, 07:50:39 PM
I just made a transaction from my Poloniex account to my Stellar account.
How many confirmations (and minutes) should occur so i'ii receive the coins in my Stellar account?

usually instant. but some exchange will keep for few minutes to complete.

Apparently there is a problem withdrawing stellar from Poloniex to personal Stellar accounts.
Poloniex mention that there was an error regarding the transaction, without crediting my account.

After more than 9 hours I've finally received my coins.

Poloniex is an awesome exchange. Even if there are problems, they will always pay!

332  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Black Tuesday for altcoins! on: August 13, 2014, 07:44:38 PM
You can't say Cryptology is a wast of time because an EMP could talk place maybe one day.  That is like saying why build the electrical grid or use satellites because if an EMP or whatever comes takes place they will all be wiped out also.  That doesn't mean we can't benefit from their use from now till then if it even happens at all.

Exactly.

Also I think that cryptos do have intrinsic value: The time it took to implement everything
333  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: 0.2 FEE!!!! ? am i missing something? on: August 13, 2014, 07:40:46 PM
Holy crap. Why would your transaction fee to 0.2 btc? Did you accidentally set it that way or something?
0.2 BTC fee, how it happened? you did something wrong or you just send and it was 0.2 tran fee?
Two more rude boys.
I just put them all into the ignore list.

There should be a ignore filter, where everyone who doesn't have Full Member status or is whitelisted can be ignored.

335  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Litecoin TANKING...opinions on future outlook both nearterm and long term? on: August 13, 2014, 07:38:41 PM
For me LTC seems still high overpriced. Sometime it was THE altcoin. Now its just another one.

The market cap is still very high. If you put in the cap #5 at the same level of DRK i.e. the price will get to 1usd or below, where it should be.

little Litecoin is just going through its birth process none of the others on the Cap (top 20) (apart from Quark) flow with any free market force. (perhaps Zeta)

if ASICs proliferate Litecoin has a chance - if not its going to slip into obscurity.

sorry i'll add FTC and Prime to that list - they "pretty much" flow with the free market more or less.

yada yada quark is the best yada yada. Wink
336  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Will my college dorm room be able to handle 3000W? on: August 13, 2014, 07:32:56 PM
One S3 is probably manageable if he has AC or can leave a window open for a breeze.  That's like a large TV and a stereo system - commonplace in most dorms.  Running anything beyond 1 S3 means that any other heat from computers, TVs, stereos would make the room quite toasty.

Larger TVs and Stereos are not running with full capacity 24/7. Stereos have a max output of that wattage. So you can't really compare the heat of those two.

We're talking dorm room, not average household with kids.  My roommate had the TV on 24/7 (big 32" Sony Trinitron sucking 320W) and if not the TV he had a 700W stereo bumping.  Yes, 2 15 subs with a high pass and a guitar amp will do that - we always left our window or door open.

Again it depends on the size of the room - 400 sqft would be hot, 1200 sqft not too bad with a single S3.

But not while you sleep, or?

S3 are incredible loud and hot!
337  Other / Meta / Re: New legendary rank? on: August 13, 2014, 07:27:11 PM
This means that in 2017 people who have registered on here just today have a potential of being "Legendary"? I'm not really a fan of emotes, but I gotta use this one...  Roll Eyes

That's what I'm saying. It only takes about 2 years and 4 months for a brand new account to possibly become "Legendary". Now if you think of the meaning of the word, someone can become a legend after ~2 years? Really??

You could just do forum rank according to standard deviations and set legendary rank for accounts with activity above 3 standard deviations.  This would ensure that the highest rank is always highly exclusive.

Bell curve distribution with no skew has its merits, too.

that is... beautiful...

3 SD above: legendary
2 SD above: hero
1 SD above: senior
average: member
1 SD below: candidate
2 SD below: junior
3 SD below: newbie

Do it and see the number of automated registration skyrocket only to lower the requisites to reach member status.

Add other requisites(minimum post or activity to count into the statistics, etc), and you will see bot accounts all around trying o manipulate the system.

It is a nice idea, but I dobt it would work, and I'm sure it would be a pain for the mods.

Also there are 350000 members total and only 217 legendary. ´3 SD will be wayyyy more Wink

Edit: Well, I was wrong, 3 SD would only be 455 legendaries.

Blockchain download taking forever today ..
Have version 1.2 and NRS 1.1.5
Just me ?? or is there a problem ..

TIA

Triff ..

No issues for me, try closing everything down and re-opening.  That usually works for me.

It's time to update to 1.2.4

Alias transfer supposed to be implemented in 1.2, right?

Block 213000

But the client should have it in the interface as far as I understand. The only difference is that it's not activated before block 213000. But I installed a new client and don't see tools for alias transfer.

Did you install the 2.1.4 NRS?

Anyway the DGS and the other features will only appear after block 213000!
