341  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Best bitcoin wallet on: June 19, 2014, 05:20:50 AM
Been lurking on here for awhile now, figured I'd make a post.

Looking for the most stable and secure wallet.
I was using my bitfloor account to hold everything, but they just went down for good apparently. Got my money out so that was nice.

Thanks for the help guys.

Using exchanges and gambling sites to store your bitcoin is the worst idea IMO, as you have no control of the private keys.
If you want an easy-to-use wallet, use SPVs such as Electrum.
If you want to have maximum safety, use offline wallets.
342  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: MINERS STRIKE! on: June 19, 2014, 05:10:07 AM
If the total network hashrate is stable, it takes an average of 14 days to get 2016 blocks.

Say, right after the difficulty adjusts itself, the "strike" happens.
If 50% of mining machine is turned off, it will take an average of 28 days to get 2016 blocks and difficulty adjustment.
If 90% of mining machine is turned off, it will take an average of 140 days to get 2016 blocks and difficulty adjustment.
If 99% of mining machine is turned off, it will take an average of 1400 days to get 2016 blocks and difficulty adjustment.

Now, think again whether you really want to turn on your CPU and GPU when that "strike" happens. Smiley

Ok im new to mining, Im using GUIminer. So i started it last night and ran my CPU and GPU. The cpu came up with the correct name of my processor, however the GPU didnt say Radeon and the model it says "CEDAR 0-0" ??

"CEDAR" is the codename of your GPU model, you may refer to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_AMD_graphics_processing_units

...but I have the private key ONLY. No public key, no public & private QR codes, etc..

Sounds like you have written down your private key on another paper.
If that is the case, please double and triple check you have every letters (case-sensitive) and numbers correct.
Also, it is better to make a few copies with your paper wallet and store them in safe places, to avoid losing your paper wallet.
345  Other / Meta / Re: Vod abusing Trust Sytem on: June 19, 2014, 04:52:01 AM
I don't really get it.

OP created the thread https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=595114.0 on May 4, asking others to give him negative trust.
Vod gave him a negative trust on May 12 for another reason, and now OP is not happy?  Huh
346  Other / Meta / Re: Are sockpuppet accounts allowed? on: June 19, 2014, 04:30:15 AM
Just to add to it, I believe they are not only allowed, but also encouraged by theymos. He said something about shill accounts being useful for free speech or such. It is somewhere around the forums.
Can anyone share a link for that?  Huh
I too would like to see this.

Here you are. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=104178

I don't have a problem with alt accounts as long as they're not used for evading bans. If you're hesitant to say something controversial because you don't want it to be associated with your name, please create an alt account and say it.

If there is something you're not comfortable saying associated with your name, maybe you should reconsider saying it at all.

That's a pretty naïve view, IMO. A person isn't composed of just one personality. You're a different person in different places and situations, and it's uncomfortable to mix all of these personalities into one.

I think there is a more serious point here. You can use sock-puppets to create false credibility, such as positive feedback on a fake investment opportunity. You can then use that credibility to con people out of their money.

I sometimes do react to stuff like this when I see it. Readers should really judge posts purely on the merit of their arguments, though, and not based on how many people said something or how many posts someone has.
347  Other / Meta / Re: Rid of RED on: June 19, 2014, 04:24:34 AM
Your first post was a request for a loan. What were you thinking?

You'd have to convince Vod he's mistaken to get rid of it. I can't imagine a way that wouldn't take months.

The negative feedback is deserved in this case. Not only for the several loan attempts but for repeatedly trying to scam someone into buying and shipping him a computer which he will pay for later, and then for laughably claiming he will share a bounty of treasure that is apparently buried on his friends land once he has the money to unearth it  Grin.

With all these loan attempts and scam attempts exposed, he won't get his negative trust removed but will probably get more and more negative trust lol.

Judging from the previous two days, I believe OP will send payment at around 4PM UTC (which is NOW Wink).

It's going to be a little longer today. There are 13 participants to evaluate (which means reviewing 13 post histories) and open enrollment for the second month starts today. I'm processing everyone right now, just be patient.

Okay no problem. Take your time. Smiley

EDIT: Received already. Thanks. Cheesy

Judging from the previous two days, I believe OP will send payment at around 4PM UTC (which is NOW Wink).
The first payments have been sent to qualified participants. These users have completed the campaign successfully and have been paid!
Today's payments have been sent to qualified participants.

This service is made available due to a newly found money making scheme I have discovered.

I know your scheme lol.
It is to register a new account on bitcointalk and make ponzi/hyip posts, and repeat the process again and again. Wink

Post your opinions.

My opinion is, why don't you use the existing thread https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=612773.0;all ?
359  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: e-currency-exchange.com legit? on: May 23, 2014, 05:15:34 PM
Has any one has positive dealings with this site(e-currency-exchange.com)? Just wondering if they are legit or you know of a better site that I can unload Ukash vouchers for physical cash?

Basically I am stuck with Ukash for about a month and in Western Canada they do not offer a withdrawal, just a upload for this voucher.

Any feedback or other sites I can trade Ukash at would be helpful.

Thank you in advance Smiley

If you made a google search, you could have found this thread (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=276667.0) and got the answer. Smiley
