381  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][GEMZ] GetGems - Social Messaging App That Pays - Live on Android, iOS, Web on: April 11, 2016, 03:59:55 PM
Im getting 160 gems per day so the guy complaining about 1 gems per day doesnt know how to use the app, there is an airdrop button which can give you much more if you have social connections.

Instead of chastising new users, why not explain what you did to get 160 Gemz daily?

It was my understanding that the airdrop is almost entirely based on what you purchased during the ICO.

For instance, did you originally purchase around 13 btc of Gemz? That would give an estimated ~160/day based on the polling in the discussion group.

No fewer than 13 btc, but i have referrals who are active. i get between 155 and 165.

So the more the users you refer use the app the more you get paid?

I am a fan of the coin but what is the purpose of the app? Collect as much data from text message history as possible? lol

The main purpose is the attention economy, which is going to be advertisements you get payed for that you can opt in and out of.

Since private messages are end-to-end encrypted, I'm not sure what GetGems collecting them will do but get them a bunch of random bits.
382  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][GEMZ] GetGems - Social Messaging App That Pays - Live on Android, iOS, Web on: April 07, 2016, 02:14:55 PM
Whatsapp doesnt allow you to send money which getgems does, which is more powerful than encryption imo.

It depends if you care. If people want an end-to-end encrypted app with massive user saturation then Whatsapp has a huge userbase head start, and now that it is free is growing very quickly.

There are tons of ways to send people money electronically where you don't have to deal with some Fiat to token exchange in addition to sharing the same app with the receiver, etc.

I hope GetGems becomes huge, but it has to find it's correct niche and market hard there. Because secure end-to-end messaging is not the "killer feature" that will get people to switch.

The most likely opportunity to grow the userbase for the wallet feature is to convert Telegram users to GetGems with the "Chat with your Telegram network PLUS this, this this".

EDIT:

Whatsapp: 990 million users, 320 million of them active daily, 1 million new per day

Telegram: XXX? millions user, 65 million daily active, X? new per day

I couldn't find the total telegram users or new per day numbers.

WhatsApp just released 100% end-to-end encryption including voice/mms, etc.

So, GetGems has to compete on attention economy.

I just read about a web browser, Brave I think, that pays people that enable ad viewing. Basically, it blocks the ad's on web sites and replaces it with ads from the Brave network.
384  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][GEMZ] GetGems - Social Messaging App That Pays - Live on Android, iOS, Web on: April 06, 2016, 07:59:32 PM
Airdrop depending on how much Gems you have bought on crowd sale, how many people you have invited, and usage of the app from you and people that you have invited.

How does it know how many gems I bought in the ico?

Also, it shows I don't have a referer, aren't people without referer supposed to be assigned to ICO buyrs?

Are there release notes for Lompsa or is it just a new version due to a new fimk version?

Hi FIM and dev.

Im an investor of this coin, and until now Im not happy about this investment.

Are we going to see changes soon? Are you planning to do some more marketing and bring some major releases?

What is the roadmap?

As I can remember you collected many BTC for the IPO. It would be nice if the investors start seeing something after 2 years now.

Thank you.

Im curious what you were expecting and why you are not happy. There have been regular releases of the server software and the Mofo/Lompsa wallet.

What are you looking for in a major release?
387  Bitcoin / Mycelium / Re: Mycelium Bitcoin Wallet on: March 23, 2016, 04:39:53 PM
Ok thanks.

I did figure out what was going on after more investigation. It seems that the miner started sending coins to an older address in another wallet.

So all is well. It wasn't a wallet issue.

Thanks for the info about sigh message to list addresses. It would be nice though if there was a way to get/export a list of addresses so that they could be watched in another wallet.

388  Bitcoin / Mycelium / Re: Mycelium Bitcoin Wallet on: March 23, 2016, 02:09:54 PM
What's the best channel to get support for Mycelium Android wallet?

I have an issue where one of my accounts isn't showing all the transactions. Is there a limit to how many show? I tried reload account to no avail.

Also, is there a way to get a list of all the public addresses in an Account so I can use a block explorer to compare the balances?
389  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] BitcoinDark (BTCD)--Financial_Privacy/SuperNET_Core/InstantDEX/PAX/Divs on: March 19, 2016, 03:00:20 PM
Would the BTCD dev team consider updating the staking algorithm to PoSP used with Cryptogenic Bullion CBX?

With PoSP (PoS participation) only wallets that are open and staking actually earn any stakes, so if you never open your wallet you never earn any stake interest. With BTCD I open my wallet once a week or so, sync up, get my stake coins, then close my wallet. I earn the same stake interest (almost) as a guy running a wallet 24/7. With PoSP the guy running 24/7 gets A LOT more stakes as reward for his efforts, and I'd get nothing, zip, ziltch! Why reward people who don't help secure the network by running their wallet long enough to contribute?

With CBX the stake rate is usually 8-14%, BUT the inflation is set in stone at 2%. The incentive is obvious, STAKE, or get nothing, and the more you stake the greater your overall % of coin cap becomes. Aging coins earning interest in offline wallets has terrible incentives compared to PoSP.

IMO PoSP is fair, and encourages coin holders to stake and secure the chain. Would BTCD devs consider a switch?

I like this idea as well.

I'm pretty sure you get the 5% even if you don't constantly run your node. You just don't get the Staking bonus dividend that has been being paid out each week.

Nice post and thanks for bringing this to the forum!

Being that I stake 24/7, I'd support PoSP as well, as it does appear to be fair and seems that it would drive true loyal hodlers to stake and support their network. Those of us actually strengthening the network should be rewarded accordingly.

NWweight:61,399

This would also disappoint early holders who wanted to invest with what they saw at the beginning.
I also support the network by staking but I don't like the idea of not receiving the 5% if I am not staking.
Perhaps if you increase the dividents or even add an extra % for those who stake could be better.
Incentive drives more people "in" than punishment Cheesy
"If you don't stake we will remove your 5%" is a punishment.
This is based on human psychology.
If everything started like this from the beginning I wouldn't mind. But, 2 years later it's like a punishment.

You always get the 5% you just won't get the bonus staking dividend.
390  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [XCH] ★ ClearingHouse - Freedom by Blockchain ★ on: March 18, 2016, 07:02:24 PM
Isnt this a candidate for 'takeover'? The dev's actions, or lack there-of, are the actions of someone who has given up on his original goals and aspirations for this project. The fair thing to do is to hand as much of whats left of this project, over to someone else to have a go at 'developing' something with it.
The people just hoping BTCDrak will give any more meaningful time to this, and pulling something out the bag, are simply holding bags of valueless hope IMO.
I might be a good coin to takeover. It's listed Bittrex

there's not much to do here until counterparty does something meaningful.  xch is a clone of XCP with some cool notary function (think FCT before FCT existed).

XCH insanely low price under 1000 satoshis !!!! XCP huge news this one will fly soon! BTCDRAK WHERE ARE YOU?  Cheesy

So, can you conclude that mining with a mining service has always lost money? I'm interested why, if you can't earn money mining with these services why people would do it? Seems like the mining services are the ones making money.

What that's tell you, that he believe in the project, like CITI, UBS, Santander etc.

Maybe it does. Since I don't know all the details. It also maybe tell me that he's a bad businessman. Imagine the resources $1mil would have brought the project.
393  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] BitcoinDark (BTCD)--Financial_Privacy/SuperNET_Core/InstantDEX/PAX/Divs on: March 14, 2016, 04:25:43 PM
Did you leave you wallet completely unlocked (not staking) for a long period of time? At one time I thought I had received a bunch of BTCD for no reason but as it turns out after the blockchain reloaded I had my normal balance. You should try to restart your wallet and if this does not work then you must reload the whole BTCD database. You can do this the hard way by deleting everything in the AppData folder (Windows) except Wallet.dat and maybe BitcoinDark.conf (if you have it or you can rename it for testing)and letting the database load forever... Or you can use cryptochainer.com to download the whole database. Also I think I closed out of my wallet and rebooted my PC.

Even in block explorer it shows I have two addresses. It's not only my wallet displaying it.
I have realized it yesterday as I saw myself out of the rich list Cheesy
No, I left it completely unlocked for less than an hour as I sent some coins to bittrex 3-4 days ago.

That's probably why. Look at the transaction of your spend. It finds input's that meet or exceeded your tx amount, sends the correct amount to the recipient and the remainder to a "change" address in your wallet.

So getgems turned down a 1M offer for 5% of the company http://www.timesofisrael.com/start-up-eschews-million-dollar-prize-but-innovates-on-says-ceo/

And people are dumping at these prices?

CITI bank!!! Are you guys nuts to even think of dumping lol

they turned down $250k for 5%

“It’s true that we won a prestigious contest in the US, which could have netted us a million dollar prize,” Peled told The Times of Israel. “But we would have had to give 5% of the company’s equity, and I think our company’s 5% is worth more than that.” The contest concluded with GetGems winning a $250,000 prize, but the company turned that down, too.

Not really clear but how many cryptos out there are turning away hrundreds of thousands for a share of their company?

So, he thinks a start up company with zero revenue is worth more than $20million? Interesting. 5% doesn't seem like a lot to trade for $1mil.

What is project iguana. I can't keep track of all 777's projects. Is there an elevator pitch description somewhere?

Essentially you are creating a paper wallet.

Make sure you use an Air Gapped PC.

Why not just use a paper wallet generator?

as I understand, paper wallet generators are js scripts that run in a browser- I would not trust that...

at least, you would have to save the html with the js locally, disconnect rom the netwook while you use it, and scrub the browser thoroughly afterwards.
to me, that makes the old fashioned dumpprivkey method much easier and less insecure.

As I said, Air Gapped PC... probably best is to use a LIVE CD type install so once you turn off the PC, everything you did is gone.

I'm not sure why you would trust a QT wallet any more than an HTML wallet generator. In each case, you want to make sure you are offline. in other words don't trust either one to not share your private keys. I would still do it on a LIVE CD air gapped PC.

The advantage to a paper wallet generator is that it will allow you to encrypt your PK. It will provide you a QR code with your keys and it will generate a PDF of said information to allow for you to easily print several copies to "backup" in various locations. This is much more error proof the manually writing a private key down.

Up to you of course.
398  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] BitcoinDark (BTCD)--Financial_Privacy/SuperNET_Core/InstantDEX/PAX/Divs on: March 04, 2016, 06:27:39 PM
Friends, is it possible to make my own paper wallet for BTCD and other altcoins?
I don't mean an online wallet generator. Just a few wallets for own usage where paper wallets are not available.

Thank you

https://walletgenerator.net/  now supports Btcd and you can create paperwallets

Thank you for providing the above link.
My question was if it's possible to create somehow a paper wallet for every altcoin by myself
e.g. to generate the public and private address somehow without using paper generators.

There are altcoins without paper wallets so I want to store my coins on paper.
iguana has API that supports rosetta addresses. Internally all the bitcoin and curve25519 coins use 256 bit privkeys.

This is mapped to pubkeys. And usually with an SHA256 front end you can create the high entropy 256 bits to use for the privkey.

Each coin just has a different address type that is combined with the rmd160(sha256(pubkey)) to create the address. There are dozens of hash and hmac API to help with creating high entropy privkeys and also all the required converters from one format to another.

Not sure what functions you need, but whatever it is there is already and iguana API for it, or it wont take long at all to make one.

docs.supernet.org

If I use the windows QT wallet, lets say a fresh installation without any coins in it.
I transfer e.g. 20 BTCD into an address. Can the wallet give me the privkey so that I write that sending address and privkey to a paper and then delete the QT wallet (including wallet.dat) and in one year later I use the privkey to send the coins from paper to a new QT wallet?

Essentially you are creating a paper wallet.

Make sure you use an Air Gapped PC.

Why not just use a paper wallet generator?

Do yall think GG will hit a million downloads this year?

In 5 years maybe, This is a ghost town. Community as well as inside the app different groups. Barely see 10-15 people active. Its understandable since there is nothing good happening like softstorb stated.

Do you live under a rock? If we sustain the current growth we will reach 1M users within a year. (80K users this month, 50% increase a month) 120k, 180k, 270k, 405k, 600k, 900k, 1.350M by October. Will GetGems continue to grow at the same pace? I dont know, but it has for the past 4 months. Devs are still actively updating the app (iOS still isent on android levels), and Airdrop / AE entices new users.

Also, growth in an app like this usually isn't linear, is exponential.

I am coding, but sometimes it requires to solve a way to decentralize asset ownership across blockchains

I think Factom and a dozen other start-ups/altcoins are working on decentralized asset ownership across blockchains.

Why not work with them instead of doing it solo?

Join the ETH/Rootstock ecosystem.  You can't do it all by yourself.  Not even with the power of Java Class Libraries!   Tongue

No factom is a record keeping and registry system that has it's own blockchain and distributed nodes to store the data, while keeping/registering the hashes on the bitcoin blockchain. It isn't really about assets like Counterpary, Clearninghouse and NXT AE are.
