Maybe it would be enough to somehow get the Services section less 'messy'... Somehow we should clean up the scam topics and get rid of the auto-bump services for some topics (if there's any), in that case all the newbies and all the members could easily find what they're looking for.
(But using the 'search' function could help even more...)

You probably already know the answers to these questions; Scams aren't moderated, and bumping if it's against the rules can be reported, and removed. I'm not sure on the forums moderation stance on auto bump services. I imagine they wouldn't act unless the user has been caught in auto bumping, but offering the service probably is a little bit of a grey area, and would depend on the mod dealing with it.
5222  Other / Meta / Re: How about leaving - feedback on hacked account once verified proof. on: June 14, 2018, 08:11:55 PM
I want to clarify some things before this turns into a bashing sessions around how we are terrible bounty managers and allowing 'hackers' to join our bounty.

* We have over 50k people participating is any number of ongoing campaigns, and as much as we would like to check everyone, unfortunately we cannot. Like most, we do the best we can. Since there are no good API's for BTT or automated solution, our team isn't able to vet in detail every profile of every bounty participant. When someone reports something that COULD be an issue, we address it until we figure it out.
That's the managers faults. You choose to accept that many participates. You choose to ignore who signs up, and look to this as an excuse. Ultimately, if you are managing something you should be manually checking everyone that enters to assure that they are a suitable candidate.

You shouldn't be relying on others to report it for you. You should be making an initial assessment, and then checking periodically on all members. This is why large amounts of people that aren't distributed via the work force isn't a good idea.
5223  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Bitcointalk's FIFA World Cup and Premier League Predictor Football Pool on: June 14, 2018, 08:01:42 PM
Héctor Cúper (Egypt coach) said that Salah is ready to play tomorrow...I think he's playing mind games with Uruguay, I mean, the entire world agreed that Salah was not gonna play the , and now out of nowhere the manager says he's fit to play? hmmm, i don't know.
It's a shoulder injury, and mind games only go so far. It might have an impact on the selection, but honestly I doubt it will. Salah is their biggest threat, and they are always going to be wary of him starting anyway. It's also one of the harder opposition to play in my opinion, and if they have any chance they'll need Salah.

It's a shoulder injury, and it's nothing serious anyway. Probably play with an injured shoulder. If anything declaring him 100% fit might protect some of the opposition players from going in particularly hard against him.

He's posted several videos way before the World Cup on his rehabilitation, and looked fairly alright.
5224  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Bitcointalk's FIFA World Cup and Premier League Predictor Football Pool on: June 14, 2018, 07:55:28 PM
I checked the league in predictor and everyone seems on 0 points, probably no one predicted 5-0 of Russia over Saudi Arabia. Anyway there are three intriguing games tomorrow culminating with Portugal vs Spain. Egypt vs Uruguay should be an easy win for Uruguay since Mohammed Salah will probably miss the first opening game and I was probably wrong to bet on Egypt asian handicap.

It's being reported than he's actually fit for the game. However, whether the manager risks him is another thing. It's a big game, and I doubt he would leave him out of the squad entirely I would at least expect him to be on the bench.

The BBC are reporting he's fit, and they are somewhat reliable when it comes to Football news. Here's a quote:
Quote from: BBC
Egypt forward Mohamed Salah is "almost 100%" certain to play in Friday's World Cup opener against Uruguay in Yekaterinburg, says boss Hector Cuper."

Probably safe to assume that he's at least going to play whether it's from the bench or not. Your bet isn't in jeopardy yet!
5225  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Bitcointalk's FIFA World Cup and Premier League Predictor Football Pool on: June 14, 2018, 07:48:11 PM
hmm you sure about that mate , cause the site I'm using is showing 3 hours difference between each single match
the time is 15.00 , 18.00 and 21.00 all GMT +3
Yeah you seem to be right. I found it strange at first, and that's what it says on the prediction website for me. I've since had a look, and the Egypt one is 13:00 for me, and then the Iran one is 16:00. When converting to local time on the prediction website it converts to the right times. But, it's strange due to before that it's saying 17:00, and 18:00. Seems that my extensions were causing the issue.

Should be able to catch before of them considering it's a Friday!

I didn't see it coming, I had predicted in the predictor 1-1 as I thought last games of Russia showed only losses and draw and this deceived me. For tomorrow I am a bit surprised at the low odd of Uruguay so I am backing an asian handicap for Egypt tomorrow too.
I think Uruguay is going to win tomorrow quite convincingly actually. However, if Salah plays I think he'll nab a goal.
5226  Other / Meta / Re: Subforum for account ban request on: June 14, 2018, 07:14:51 PM
When an account has been ban then there is appropriate reason. As everywhere has an option to appeal bitcointalk has same. But I saw several post like above mentioned and saw that they do not get response. I think they receive a lots of message thats why cant response on time. In this case if there is a sub forum and people can discuss either ban is appropriate then people can report to moderator so that their work will less and they may concentrate on it.
This is why I suggested that the message displayed when you are banned be changed to contact theymos/cyrus to appeal the ban. This way it doesn't clog up the Meta section. It's hardly a public matter anyway so it makes sense to have it privately discussed via personal messages.
5227  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Bitcointalk's FIFA World Cup and Premier League Predictor Football Pool on: June 14, 2018, 07:10:26 PM
Man, Egypt vs Uruguay starts at 17:00 tomorrow, and then Morocco vs Iran starts an hour later at 18:00. I guess I'll likely be watching the Egypt game, and if it's clear who's going to win I'll switch over. It's annoying when games are going to overlap though.

Iran, and Morocco is an interesting game I think.
5228  Other / Meta / Re: Simple answer to getting rid of all the trash threads here on: June 14, 2018, 07:05:35 PM
Some already use managers for their threads. Limiting thread creation would only hinder certain people, and then they would just hire people like the rest of competition. There's no simple answer to anything regarding moderation.

Moderators or even merit sources should not be given demerit points, and I'm hoping that this isn't implemented in the future. It will only be abused, and misused.
5229  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Bitcointalk's FIFA World Cup and Premier League Predictor Football Pool on: June 14, 2018, 05:03:43 PM
I did, but definitely didn't see the third goal coming. Lost my first bet on the game though, thought Saudi getting more yellow cards was likelier as I thought the refs would be kind to Russia as hosts. I actually stopped watching after the second goal. Maybe the guys in green were still fasting? =p
I definitely didn't see them scoring 5...way to prove me wrong Russia. I'm sure they have an agenda against me.  Roll Eyes Fair play to them they destroyed, and Saudi really did look deflated since I tuned in. I can't really gauge the strength of Russia from that performance though due to their opponent not really turning up to the game. Some really good finishes towards the end though I must say.

That's one win ticked off my accumulator though. Oh, and I  believe Salah is almost 100% to be fit to play tomorrow.
5230  Other / Meta / Re: Another Trash, trashing the forum. on: June 14, 2018, 04:34:36 PM
If you feel that it's breaking the rules then you can report it using the report to moderator button. You'll get your feedback whether you are right or wrong from that then. There's no real need to create a thread every time something like this comes up.

5231  Other / Meta / Re: The Newbie/spammers problem. Solution anyone? on: June 14, 2018, 04:31:39 PM
How can you tell which ones are spam accounts? Good start is that they have exactly 100 merit, or exactly 250 merit, and have received nothing since the merit system was introduced. Also that most of their posts are 75 characters or whatever the limit is for a bounty post.

So you could have merit or rank as a changeable thing. Or have moderators with more scope to downgrade obvious spammy accounts, with a warning first then a downgrade (since the reason they are spamming is for bounties). This way you encourage meaningful contributions at all ranks, hopefully reducing spam and with newbie accounts seeing what the new 'norm' is on this forum in terms of quality posting.
Although, this is generally a good indicator it's not 100% accurate. Some members might of contributed with great posts, but since the forum is having a much higher signal to noise ratio they may have stopped. The thing is if they are spam accounts moderators can already do something about it without downgrading their ranks. They can simply delete their posts or ban them if they are particularly bad.

There's a reason why theymos rewarded old members with a base merit, because if they've been here for a few years they have likely contributed something to the forum in terms of posting. Plus, any bad poster before, and after the introduction of merit will not get any more, and won't rank up further. Rank means nothing unless it's for signature/bounty campaigns, and quite frankly if the manager is doing their job correctly then they won't accept someone who is still at their base rewarded merits.

Old accounts with merit aren't an issue in my opinion, and certainly aren't a priority. Also, adding a way to downgrade accounts isn't a very good idea. Even if someone is posting garbage posts without breaking any rules, if they've earned that merit then they've likely made good posts in the past. There's perfect legitimate reasons for the decline of post quality too one example would be lack of time due to work commitments etc.

Word/character count is also irrelevant, and I kind of wish campaigns would just scrap this.
5232  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Bitcointalk's FIFA World Cup and Premier League Predictor Football Pool on: June 14, 2018, 04:22:06 PM
I bet Russia to win on my accumulator that will be covering a few of the other games coming up in the following days, but honestly thought this could of been a game which lacked any sort of substantial chances, and just dragged to a goalless end. I think Russia has done a little better than my expectations for the game, however didn't actually catch the goals, and only started watching now. Seems Saudi are now deflated.

I didn't see Russia scoring two though so that's a surprise.
5233  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: How to decide transaction fee? on: June 13, 2018, 08:43:45 PM
There are many sites that show you stats about the current pending transactions and what fee they used, e.g.
https://bitcoinfees.earn.com/

So, you can write your own function to calculate the best fee according to this information or just search for an API that already provides suggestions.

These are estimations, and aren't always accurate. It's good for a reference point perhaps, but if you want to determine the optimal fee depending on the current network then I would suggest using: https://jochen-hoenicke.de/queue/#0,24h

This displays the fees which are getting included in transactions that are in the mempool. You could cross reference the two sites if you so wished.
5234  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: How should I configure a full node at a very low bandwidth? on: June 13, 2018, 08:39:01 PM
There's also ways to accommodate for lower bandwidth speeds or limits. You can limit the maximum upload targets which may help by doing:
Code:
 -maxuploadtarget=<value(MIB)>

This might take a little experimenting to get right, and get the most optimal configuration. Once you've downloading the blocks initially there's not too much strain on bandwidth speeds, and the amount of new data that you need to download on a daily basis. However, as a last resort you could opt for the option of renting out a VPS to run a full node.

At the end of the day any node will help the network, even if it's not as optimal as other ones which already exist on the network. Plus, it's always fun running your own nodes, and messing around with it when it runs into any problems.
5235  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Bitcointalk's FIFA World Cup and Premier League Predictor Football Pool on: June 13, 2018, 08:25:01 PM
Yeah, don't worry about it guys the predictions of the match score are saved once you've inputted both the teams goals. There's no save button. You can check if it's saved by refreshing the page or visiting it again later if in doubt just check it.

I hope that not too many of you locked in your bracket prediction before hearing the news of the Spanish manager. It might not have an effect, but it's always best to leave it quite late so that you avoid injuries, and unforeseen circumstances from having an impact of the team.

It will be appreciated if you allow me to add pugman on my list. I have seen his profile. Absolutely he is an helpful person.
Do what you want I don't own the rights to pugman. There's a few others which are also offering other services like this, but my minds going blank of their names right now.
5237  Other / Meta / Re: Spammy accounts used for 'promotion' by bumping threads on: June 13, 2018, 08:10:45 PM
1. We start reporting threads to mods (Short term solution)
More recently I've started looking for spammy threads to report them. If more people would do this mods would be able to notice such cases more easily, delete the threads and purge the spammy accounts. But mods are already overwhelmed and removal isn't instant. This really doesn't solve the problem.
Many people are already doing this. If you want to go down this rabbit hole then you could report thousands of posts per day. Threads should only be reported if they are offering an incentive to post, and there's evidence of it. Otherwise, competitors will eventually do fake bumps on their competition to get their thread removed.

2. Limiting new accounts
Back in the day, bitcointalk was enforcing a newbie jail. New accounts would have to reach a post threshold to be able to post outside of it. This was until 2013 I think, but after the explosion of crypto's popularity it became increasingly hard to moderate such section and it was ultimately disabled.

Restrictions in this case is probably the way to go about it. I think theymos has previously mentioned of offering a quiz to new accounts that specify whether they want to participate in Bitcoin discussion or earn from bounties etc. The latter option could be restricted to certain areas, but also have limitations on the account that prevent them from bumping threads. Their spam would still have to be removed, but it wouldn't be as much of a problem to other thread starters in the section. It would be hard to prevent this from being gamed, but the restrictions would be lifted at later ranks. Probably limit those who select the Bitcoin discussion route to the main sections, and they won't be able to post in the alt section. That's probably the only way to get them not to lie on the quiz.

But now with the explosion of ICOs, there is a lot of demand to project onto bitcointalk. The forum's inability to handle spam has results to many new projects utilizing blackhat solutions for promotion on bitcointalk, as it is one of the biggest hubs for cryptocurrency related discussion. An easy solution I could imagine would be to disable bumping from accounts below the Jr. Member rank. They would be able to respond but it wouldn't shoot the thread to the top. This way providing a powerful counter-incentive on creating new accounts to spam-bump. It would also limit the pool of accounts mods would have to get around banning.
Call me a mad man if you want, but I think if the community pulled together, and started reporting then it wouldn't be that big of a deal. Yeah, there's thousands of posts per day, but there's also thousands of members who could dedicate 10 minutes of their time to report it. Instead, they complain, and say there isn't enough moderators.

Preventing bumping from certain ranks is probably a decent idea which would help benefit the section, however the spam would still exist to get a false buzz for the coin/ICO. Plus, Jr Members are the ones that are regularly bumping to avoid detection in the patrol page. Member would likely be a better option, because it requires actually making good posts to get the rank. Therefore, only accounts that make good posts can bump threads.

On another note, I don't think that outright deleting threads is a good response to spam-bumps. This leaves open the possibility of competitors purposefully targeting a thread with spam to take it down. Moreover, legitimate responses to the thread also are deducted from the post count of those that made them, which is unfair towards quality forum members.
It isn't. I've already mentioned one reason, however another reason is that airdrops, and promise of free coins or an exciting coin results in a lot of hype which unfortunately for us results in people posting low content to be part of the project. Not all of these messages are bumping intentionally.

This has been going on for months, and to probably combat this problem without taking extreme measures we'll likely have to combine a few things mentioned above. Something like preventing bumping from members who haven't earned over a certain merit threshold as well as getting together as a community, and reporting.
5238  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Bitcointalk's FIFA World Cup and Premier League Predictor Football Pool on: June 13, 2018, 04:42:17 PM
I just don't understand the whole Spain saga. It seems silly that they would do it so close the the world cup, and you don't know what effect that this will have on the players leading up to the first game. You get used to a coach, and coaches normally have certain tendencies to play certain players, and now all the players are going to be in the dark on who's going to be playing, and who isn't. Plus tactics might slightly change, because of this. I didn't fancy Spain's chances, but this just makes it even worse.
5239  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Need Help for Bitcoin Recovering on: June 12, 2018, 11:02:53 PM
You mention above that you bought the wallet? I'm assuming that you didn't use a traditional desktop wallet, and bought a hardware wallet. The only hardware wallet I know that was launched by a french start up was the Nano S. This is a device that you plug in via a USB slot. If this rings any bells then it could be the Nano S or a different hardware wallet.

I'm not sure what you mean by having a lot of files with Perl, PHP, Javascript, and Berkeley. But, if this is indeed related to your wallet then it has the framework for a web page. Which likely means it would be able to connect to a web page that you would then have a few more settings to tweak with or something alone those lines.

I haven't used hardware wallets so couldn't tell you which one would use all of these to tie into. However, if it was indeed a hardware wallet that you purchased then it could well make it a little easier to identify which one you had used, and whether they use a different extension to the normal .dat. Although, a few hardware wallets have Python dependencies.

Also, is it possible that you used a wallet sweeper of some sort? If so your data might be saved to a .txt file rather than a .dat file.

Ignoring the Perl, PHP, and the others Multibit uses the extension .wallet, but I assume you've already searched "wallet" anyway. It does sound to mean like you've downloaded a non traditional wallet management system which would probably of came from a Github source. You might want to check the programs that fit your description on there, and check their dependencies.
5240  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Need Help for Bitcoin Recovering on: June 12, 2018, 10:02:41 PM
How long is the code that you are talking about? Plus, can you remember which desktop wallet you used to generate the wallet file? You should be able to just search by extension within the hard drive. So the .dat part of the file, and that should yield results if they are there. If you've completely renamed the file, and got rid of the .dat part of it then this could be a little more tricky.

If there's a 1% chance of it being on that hard drive, and searching for it by name, and extension isn't working then your going to need to do some manual searching. If you've got any value to that wallet then it's got to be worth it. I would suggest organizing it as you go along to prevent this issue in the future, and prevent you from losing your place whilst searching through.

If for some reason it's not there, and you are 100% sure that you've at least stored it there for a little while then you could try some recovery programs to see if there's any data left. This might be a good idea to check first to prevent further writing to the drive.
