4521  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What are the likely problems that cryptocurrency poses to the financial sector? on: March 09, 2019, 02:13:09 AM
It would definitely cause fear in the wire international business, it does everything the bank can but better. (Except for reversal)

Reversal could be viewed as either a good thing or a bad thing. It's a well known fact that services such as Paypal are notorious for scammers charging back their payments, and running away with both the product, and money. Paypal generally favors the buyers over the sellers, and this is especially the case when buying digital goods. It's the exact reason why you should never trade Bitcoin for Paypal, unless you're dealing with a very trusted user, and honestly even then there are better ways. The only thing that Paypal has over Bitcoin is convenience.
4522  Other / Meta / Re: Best place to post this kind of topic? on: March 09, 2019, 02:09:20 AM
If you pay in Bitcoin instead of eth, you can post it on the services board.

However, I recommend changing your requirement: asking for DT only to join looks a lot like you're buying trust. You should ask for trusted members instead.
A lot of users do this, but they tend to disguise it by giving free credit in "tiers". So they give trusted members more, and other users lower. In principle its the same thing they are looking to get reviews from trusted members by offering an incentive. Quite frankly, I would be more inclined to trust a project if they went a more ethical approach, but each to their own I guess.
4523  Other / Meta / Re: New? on: March 09, 2019, 02:05:53 AM
That was in 2014 .There was no rule or info about plagiarism at all.

If you wanna bann people because of these kind of BS from 2014 you would need to ban half of the forum.
I think that statistic of "half the forum" is pretty exaggerated as I doubt upstanding members of the community would do it. I've never plagiarized, and never even thought to do it. It's just one of those things that everyone knows is wrong to do. However, I'll admit that in certain situations it might be done on accident. For example, if someone is trying to help another user, and they get their information from the web, and don't provide a source. That probably is worth deleting, but I don't think further action would need to be taken. I believe context, and motives are considered. So, if a post from 2014 was the reason for a ban, then I'm sure context, and evaluating the behavior of that user was also taken into consideration.
4524  Economy / Reputation / Re: Spamming by sent PM (Probably paid PM spammer) on: March 09, 2019, 02:00:39 AM
It's actually unbelievable the amount of personal message spam that gets sent around here. Honestly, I wake up to several messages a day, and most are some sort of spam advertising a project or something. Not even from new accounts either, a lot of them are existing accounts.

Lol Cheesy
For the record, I didn't use a bot for this, it's all manual mouse clicks.

Sure we believe you DdmrDdmr LoyceV. In all seriousness, I think we need to evolve our defense against these bots that are spreading useful, and informative data around the forum! We are not used to this, we need more "great project".......Okay so actually be serious this time. I'm not sure if anyone else does this, but I used to keep a list of posts to merit before I was a source, and I haven't actually gone through most of the posts on there so I imagine my merit sent could look something like this soon Tongue
4526  Other / Meta / Re: [SUGGESTION]Show trust in Project Development section. on: March 08, 2019, 10:23:47 PM
It makes sense to have the trust displayed in the Project Development section, in fact I think that section might need a little more attention overall. Seems like there's a lot of threads which belong elsewhere there. I know project development also gets the "great project" sort of spam on some of the threads too.
4527  Other / Meta / Re: How many banned users have you merited? on: March 07, 2019, 12:37:55 AM
I like the percentage statistic actually whereas the built in top senders to perma banned users only gives total merit sent. Nice little touch including the actual posts merited too, and checking mine I believe the majority deserved some merit. Although, some are now gone, and not viewable I think I remember those users at least being capable of creating good content occasionally.

4529  Other / Meta / Re: [Feature request] Chat box in bitcointalk on: March 04, 2019, 07:22:38 PM
I couldnae imagine anything much more ghastly. It would be unreadable and unbearable. The requirement to compose and post at least adds a small amount of breath between your mind and your fingers. Take that away and the noise level would go up tenfold.

I'm a fan of categories, and the at the very least organized chaos (something which I'd describe this forum as at peak times), but introducing a chat box would completely ruin that, and it would just be completely off topic. If you want to chat with fellow Bitcoiners then you can dm them. A lot of the higher ranked users here actually have private live chat rooms for trusted members.
4530  Other / Meta / Re: Updated List of Bitcointalk Hidden Pages/Post on: March 04, 2019, 07:20:25 PM
Patrol isn't really hidden. You can make a link to it appear at the top of each page immediately above the link to your Watchlist by going to Profile - Forum Profile Information - and checking the box titled "Show patrol link"
This is something I wish was built in, and easily done. I see I'm not the only one that has played around with patrol to get certain sections etc. It's a known pattern that newer accounts generally post lower quality content, and aren't familiar with the rules as much as a seasoned veteran on the forum. I generally believe that most reporters won't visit patrol, because of the combination of altcoin spam, local sections, and other content that they don't want to see or aren't familiar with the guidelines. If people filtered the patrol to a certain section then they could contribute to the section that they frequent in a more efficient manner than just reporting as they come across it.

4533  Other / Meta / Re: Should PGP keys be made mandatory for high ranks? on: March 03, 2019, 11:57:59 PM
Tying in with the badges that are suppose to be coming out soon we could encourage users to register their PGP signature by rewarding a aesthetically pleasing badge. It's been proven to encourage in other sectors of the world. Rather than forcing current users to do it though, I think making it a requirement to progress to a certain rank is probably a good idea. Legendary would be ideal, as true legendary should know how to sign a key!
4534  Other / Meta / Re: [Feature request] Chat box in bitcointalk on: March 03, 2019, 12:36:34 AM
I don't know if it is much relevant to this case but at the moment some of us are conducting a tests of the new forum software.

Hope this will kick off the transition to Epochtalk. So I think those kind of request should be pointed to the new software.

And still no chat box please. I do believe (without looking it up) theymos is against the idea aswell, but my personal viewpoint is that chatboxes rarely have any use other than very low quality content, and results in the page looking messy, and somewhat distracting from the main content of the forum. Its a gimmick more than anything functional for me.
4535  Other / Meta / Re: How forum members can help each other. on: March 01, 2019, 02:58:28 AM
I think we do have that here too. There's been several instances over the last few years where users have ran into problems, and maybe lost access to their wallets or whatever, and users have helped them out for free. There's still ways to help each other here, and it might not sound as endearing as going out, and looking for someone elses keys, but honestly the principle is the same. There's some real good guys in this community that value decency over monetary gain, despite the general consensus here that everyone is here for money. There's been users who have cracked brain wallets, and then contacted the person who owned it too (at least I think I recall something like this)

I do like the idea of discord chatting, which I've never done, but that's still not the same thing as meeting someone for drinks or coffee or whatever.
I tell you what in a few years time when we're all millionaires from our crypto investment we shall set a date, and we will attend those coffee, and drinks! Some digestives would go down quite well too. I'm not paying for drinks no matter how rich I am though Tongue
4536  Economy / Collectibles / Re: Bitcointalk.org collectible coin? on: February 17, 2019, 04:51:04 PM
- Does this sound like a good idea?
 - What features would make the coin especially interesting?
 - What's the best way to get a coin like this made?
Sounds like a real awesome idea, honestly. I'm hoping that those lucky enough to receive them won't just pass them on for a quick cash in. Depending on the criteria I think this could be a good way of rewarding those that have contributed to the forum. As well as showing a little appreciation. I'm just wondering whether you need some help with determining criteria?

Features: Honestly, it would be awesome to make the coins somewhat unique to the person receiving them. So, instead of preloading it with Bitcoin I would suggest another thing such as stating why they've received it. This makes it a little more personal, and will increase the chance that these aren't just auctioned off to the highest bidder. So, for example if you were to reward someone who found a major exploit in the forum, and kept it all under wraps, and told you as soon as possible then I would consider that pretty integral to the forum, and you could print something like "Contribution to forum security". Probably a poor example  as I don't have the time right now to think of anything more creative, but you get the idea. The coin itself doesn't have to be designed uniquely, but could have a unique sticker depending on the person who is receiving it. I'm hoping these coins are going to go to those that have shown great contribution to the forum, and not just Bitcoin.
4537  Other / Meta / Re: Modlog for the self-moderated threads? on: February 15, 2019, 05:22:54 PM
That's already been implemented:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5099378

For example:

Loading...

There we go! As you can tell I don't frequent many of the sections which usually have self moderated threads! Seems like I'm pinned down in my sections currently. Thanks for that. Considering that this is already been implemented then I'm not sure if anything else is really needed.
4538  Other / Meta / Re: "Recovering hacked/lost accounts" full process, nothing happened on: February 15, 2019, 03:43:24 PM
Send a reply to the email it might of got lost in the massive amount of requests they're likely having. Although, if you still don't receive a reply its likely that they've found a issue with the evidence provided, and it's not sufficient enough to recover the account. I have no idea how long these requests take to handle so I would suggest waiting a few weeks before writing it off completely.
4539  Other / Meta / Re: Do not count posts in 'Off-topic' on: February 15, 2019, 03:40:58 PM
That will make the current off-topic spammers move to other boards. I barely read off-topic, so I prefer to keep them there Tongue

At least hopefully then the replies will be reported, and dealt with. The off topic section is a mess, and I doubt many of the real users which aren't farming their activity actually post there. I used to post there, and frequent it occasionally, but honestly I haven't been to that section properly in months. It's full of forum games which honestly I don't think should be allowed.
4540  Other / Meta / Re: Modlog for the self-moderated threads? on: February 15, 2019, 03:39:10 PM
For the record: I merited the OP because it's a well-stated suggestion, but I disagree with it. There is enough bitching about moderator actions already. And the ones who get their posts deleted in self-mod threads already get notified via PM, plus there are the new numbers at the top of self-mod threads. Making the individual user IDs public seems of little benefit to me.

I think I recall theymos stating he would do some vague stats such as "x amount of deleted replies" without giving any information who had their posts deleted. I can't seem to find it right now so this might of come from someone else, however I'll take a better look a little later.
