5281  Other / Meta / Re: Threads should be locked after a certain time on: June 04, 2018, 03:42:41 PM
I think the current solution of locking the topic once it starts getting out of hand or encouraging low quality posts is better. It would be hard to determine on certain threads when the discussion has ended, and could potentially limit insightful new replies. Especially after a week.

Maybe, a friendlier reminder when opening topics to lock the thread when your question is answered might be beneficial though.
5282  Other / Meta / Re: These boards require additional moderators on: June 03, 2018, 08:38:25 PM
Question is that do we have reputed members that will be able to handle this responsibility. Most of the old members here are active only in their free time. Moderation on a busy forum like this can be quite time consuming. It can even consume more time that a regular  job in some situations.

We wouldn't need someone to do a full time job. You would just need people in a timezone which isn't currently being moderated or someone who reports in times when the spam is too much for the current moderator to deal with.

I'm sure there's several members that are reputable enough for the job.
5283  Other / Meta / Re: How to correctly report a shitposter account? on: June 03, 2018, 07:53:30 PM
No, not completely stop bounties why? A solution for this problem with bounty reports is so easy.

Reports should be sent using a PM to bounty manager. Problem solved.

Have you tried doing that? I've sent PMs to signature managers paying in BTC, and not bounties which are a little more respected for their quality wise. Yet, they didn't care. In fact they didn't even bother answering me. I linked several posts of the offenders posts that I reported at the same time. They were removed. They don't care as long as they are getting paid.

If you tried this method with all the bounty managers do you really think they will care? Especially if they are running the bounty for their company, and aren't hiring an independent bounty manager.
5284  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Will bitcoin go under regulation on: June 02, 2018, 12:12:35 PM
I don't think that any government can regulate bitcoin alone, because they can't control Internet.
Only some kind of regulation on the world level is possible, but I doubt it will happen soon.
Governments can control income from bitcoin and crypto currencies when you decide to exchange your btc funds to the fiat money.
In the most countries, I believe, you will have ti report it and pay tax.

Just a regulation when converting your Bitcoin/crypto into fiat currencies. Which already exists. Bitcoin can't be directly regulated, but they can make it extremely difficult to convert it into other assets such as property, and other things.

Some countries consider Bitcoin capital gain, and therefore you would need to report it to the tax man regardless if you've converted it to fiat or not.
5285  Other / Meta / Re: UserLog request, same as ModLog but for user activity+more ideas. BOT PROOF VIDeo on: June 02, 2018, 11:25:29 AM
If all the above quoted one liners are considered generic crap, and we start to report in the Altcoin discussion, you'll end up banning the whole thread in a weekend Smiley
Seriously, if they are not bump bots but just "normal" bounty hunters / farmed accounts, why all of the accounts on the page (http://archive.is/7B93z) had just 5 or 6 activities that time? Is it possible that new bump bot accounts are registered for every day/week/topic etc?
These sorts of replies have been going on for months in conjunction with the bump bots that delete their posts. This isn't something new, and people have been reporting them. There's just simply too many to catch. It's also common for newbies to be interested in airdrops, and that's why it's common to find users with very small amounts of activity.

It could be intentional bumping, but I wouldn't say these particular ones are bots.
5286  Other / Meta / Re: Any suggestion for me? on: June 02, 2018, 09:38:28 AM
im expecting a reply like this from a person like you. You don't know what my intention is and already jumping conclusion into "making post just to get merit".
Im asking a simple question or asking a favor just for contents, If you can see my rank "Jr. Member" it will explain a lot that im new here and want to know some more.
If asking in this section is not valid then maybe im in the wrong section?
Alright. Enlighten me. If you aren't looking for an interesting topic to post about then Why do you want someone to give you an interesting idea for you to post then? Or are you asking on how to improve your current posts?

Maybe, your asking for good posts to read about?
5287  Other / Meta / Re: What is trust in my profile details ??? on: June 02, 2018, 09:23:17 AM
I wouldn't agree with that. Default trust is fine for newbies, but after spending some time on the forum you know who you would trust and who you wouldn't. There are several people who aren't on DT/are being actively excluded from DT who I would trust more than some DT members.

This is exactly why you should fine tune your trust settings to include these people that are on the untrusted list by default. If you think they are trustworthy in the first place, and agree with their ratings then it only makes sense to add them.
5288  Other / Meta / Re: Any suggestion for me? on: June 02, 2018, 09:21:19 AM
Can you not think for yourself? Making a post just to get merit isn't really the way to go as it's likely not going to useful to anyone unless you thoroughly research the topic or already know a great deal about it.
5289  Other / Meta / Re: UserLog request, same as ModLog but for user activity+more ideas. BOT PROOF VIDeo on: June 02, 2018, 08:24:09 AM
Hardly a new tactic this has been happening with the exact same phrases for months. I remember seeing this particular phrase months ago:
Good project. I think this is a great revolution in future.thanks

And the rest of the quotes which involve the word "revolution". That's alright it's much easier to manage now that they can't instantly delete their posts. Anything with the name "airdrop" naturally brings in more of these bots, and low quality posts.

That thread is literally a drop in the ocean as there's multiple other threads that are being spammed just like it.
5290  Economy / Reputation / Re: List: Spammers, rule breakers and exclusive bounty users on: June 01, 2018, 09:12:21 PM
I'm thinking that I'll have enough time in the next few weeks to add a little formatting to this list as well as some new users. As you can imagine a list of this sort isn't easily formatted. I should have started as I meant to go on...

Depending on my workload in the next few weeks I might just add new users, and revisit formatting all of this.
5291  Other / Meta / Re: These boards require additional moderators on: June 01, 2018, 08:37:43 PM
As far as I can tell mprep, and Hilariousandco does pretty well when reports are coming in, There's probably just a lack of reports that are being made, and at certain times they aren't on, and the section gets spammed. Even then though the reports only sit for a few hours, and are eventually dealt with in one big chunk. I guess finding someone to cover for them when they are away/sleeping could be of benefit. There's probably another staff member that could fill in this position rather than a new one?

I can't answer for them though, but I imagine a large part of things not getting dealt with is due to the lack of reports. Economics probably does need a dedicated mod, and would benefit from it just like P&S is right now.
5292  Other / Meta / Re: Can't we make a dedicated space to sig campaigns on: June 01, 2018, 10:54:06 AM
What you suggest is nearly impossible to implement because after the punishment of some managers some other will come in and this would be an endless neverending loop. I agree that if we limit this then the risk is pretty high for signatures to stop existing so maybe I am suggesting something too extreme. In such case we need more boards like Ivory Tower.

Why? You can discuss what ever you want in Ivory Tower. We don't need to over complicate things. Restrictions need to be put into place, and I'm usually against restrictions. But, it does need to happen if we are going to control the current system. I think implementing a rank based restriction in the bounty section for creating threads is a good way to go. This could then work in conjunction with the above suggestion by hilariousandco. Which would mean there wouldn't be a endless loop of bounty managers as they would be banned/punished whatever, and would have to rank up their accounts to do it again.

5293  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Masters program in cryptocurrency on: June 01, 2018, 09:09:57 AM
In the world of Blockchain, a "qualification" from a University should be the last reason you want to take a University course to learn about the technology. No one cares if someone has a degree major in Blockchain. Everyone knows that he Universities are behind the learning curve that exists by working for a blockchain based company or building your own blockchain or cryptocurrency.

The best education is found by the experience of building your own. If you're seeking a degree to work "in Blockchain" you're choosing a slower (and very expensive) path to success.

That might be true, and honestly it's probably better to go the computer scientist route or another course relating to IT if you are only interested in implementing/coding a Blockchain as these courses will broaden your career prospects. Although, a few years from now when Blockchains are introduced in several fields (hopefully) knowledge about the Blockchain may be well sought after.
5294  Other / Meta / Re: How to correctly report a shitposter account? on: May 31, 2018, 10:18:40 PM
If you want to absolutely prevent spam from this forum, sorry but that's impossible and it's normal too. Some people act funny and they don't care about being a little serious.
Mods don't try to ban them but I swear they act on reports as soon as possible. Merit stops sig spammers, but not bounty ones.
To be fair prevent of shitposting as well as you want, is impossible in any way.
We could take extreme measures, and completely ban campaigns/bounties or we could possibly add restrictions to the bounty section that only full members, and up can post there. There's also the possibility of moving bounties off forum completely or at least posting reports, and applying should be done off forum. There's a few ways of going about removing most of the spam. See hilariousandco's idea of putting signatures behind a paywall.

However, to completely stop it? Yeah, I would agree your not going to stop even if these restrictions were put in place.
5295  Other / Meta / Re: Can't we make a dedicated space to sig campaigns on: May 31, 2018, 09:38:10 PM
There's still good discussion about even in 'normal' sections. Development & technical discussion is normally a pretty good place for technical discussion about Bitcoin. I don't visit the mining section often, but I imagine there's a few decent discussions going on in over there. Bitcoin Discussion has currently been lost to spammers, but hopefully we can fix that.
5296  Other / Meta / Re: How to act when you find shitposter account? on: May 30, 2018, 08:48:08 PM
You could archive their posts before reporting them, and then include that archive link in your next report with an explanation that they've had posts deleted before for similar things (see archive link). I've got a list of accounts which I keep archive posts, and I sometimes check if a user is within this list, and will include a archive link if they are. I tend to do this with only certain ranks though.

So, something like "Spam. This user has previously had posts deleted for spam, please see <archive link>"

It might not get you anywhere, and there might not be any other punishment except deleting the post. But, at least the moderators are aware that they have had previous posts deleted, and didn't take that as a warning, and continued to spam. I've spoken to moderators, and they accept archive links.

Alternatively, you could post in the reputation section, and see what others think. There's several threads which are listing shit posters.
5297  Other / Serious discussion / Re: Mandatory Rules for all Cryptocurrency Communities on: May 30, 2018, 06:49:21 PM
The developers who create the coin are the ones that determine the rules at first. Of course there can be forks,  but we'll ignore this for the time being. What makes you think that the people you speak of would use a system which has built in protections to prevent people like them doing what they want? They'll just use another system.

You can't create a universal set of rules for cryptocurrencies, because anyone can develop one.
5298  Other / Serious discussion / Re: Getting access to BTC in event of death on: May 30, 2018, 06:41:41 PM
man, what can I say?  Wow.  I'm not sure if you understood what I was trying to say, but I know that I don't understand what you're saying.    I don't know what you mean by "safe location" or what it is that "they" are removing from said location.  I am confused.

To clarify, if I may, I don't think anybody will "find" the deposit box.  This is not a scenario that I am guarding against.   What I have here is a mechanism in place that protects against other (perhaps illegitimate) claims on the estate.
Maybe I'm not understanding correctly. So let's try, and get things straight. You said that you have a location in geography that only your wife would know of, and that you've buried your nanos seed. I did initially misunderstand that I thought you were burying both the deposit box with the wallet, and the seed. You then said if a "unfriendly" which I'll refer to as a stranger happened upon your deposit box they couldn't get in.

Alright, so we've cleared things up without being rude right? Okay, so there's a fundamental problem with storing anything in a spot, and burying it. If it's in the public, and not private land then it could be found by a stranger whether that's through construction work or someone happens to dig up in that "spot". The spot is the safe location that I was referring too.

There's been several stories spread through the newspapers, and probably online that people have had their secret stashes discovered by members of the public. Mostly by accident. Okay so what I'm trying to say here that you shouldn't assume that just digging a hole, and burying your stash would mean it's safe. Even if it's a very slim chance of someone stumbling upon it you should take other precautions.

Your wife might not know much about cryptocurrency, but I would 100% recommend that you encrypt that seed even if you do bury it. It shouldn't be stored in plain text anywhere. You could teach her how to decrypt it right now.

I know you said your not concerned about your location being found, but you absolutely should be. It's your seed, and with that anyone can get into your funds with or without the wallet. You should always practice the best security possible, and guard against as many possibilities as possible. I'm only saying this, because you offered advice on a thread about exactly this, and I'm offering some advice on how this could be improved if you wanted too.
5299  Other / Serious discussion / Re: Getting access to BTC in event of death on: May 29, 2018, 09:58:02 PM
I have actually given this topic a fair bit of thought in the past.  I was like you in that I had assets strewn about on various exchanges.  I'll try not to give you advice, but instead tell you how I dealt with the problem.

There is a spot (in geography) that I can refer to in such a way that only my wife would know it's meaning.   Also there is a deposit box, whose contents go to her in the will.
Finally, I have a Ledger hardware wallet that I used to collect all the coins and tokens from the various exchanges.  I used the chrome extensions to gather the coins, and MEW with Nano for all the tokens.   From there, I buried my nano's seed (along with instructions on how to retrieve funds) at the "spot", and then wrote my wife a letter informing of the existence of that seed at the "spot."

The advantage of this strategy is that if an unfriendly gets into the deposit box, then they cannot take the crypto, as they don't know the location of the seed.

I hope this helps somebody out there.  There are too many instances of people dying without bequeathing their coins to their kin.   Good luck with your perpetuation plan.

You might be right than if a stranger finds the deposit box before your wife they won't be able to access the funds, but that doesn't stop them from removing it from the safe location, and trying to get into it back at their property. So, this method isn't that foolproof as you likely wouldn't care if the package was missing, but you could verify that the coins hadn't removed, because the likelihood of the finding the deposit box would be unlikely at best.

So there's no real advantage if someone else finds it other than your wife, because the deposit box would likely still be taken, and beyond the reach of your wife just like it would be if they had got access, and taken the coins.
5300  Other / Meta / Re: Merit for helping on moderating the forum (?!) on: May 29, 2018, 03:11:21 PM
Yeah, I would like hear off Xandry if possible as I don't want anything to be lost in translation as well as have any bias. Although, I do appreciate the effort of translating the post, and linking that thread.

I don't think people should be getting merit for every report or something, but I don't see a problem with those who help out by making posts that help moderation etc.
Like I said I've got mixed feelings about it, although merit wasn't introduced for the purpose of offering a reward for reports, and as we've all mentioned before how it's easily abused. I've not got a problem with rewarding people who make the effort to report at it's very definition. It's the possibilities of users making alternate accounts, and posting nonsense just to report it which not only is abuse, but leads to more spam, and workload for the legitimate reporters as well as staff members.

I'm not accusing anyone of doing this so far, and as far as I can tell it's had a positive impact of a few members judging by the amount that they've reported, and I'm sure the possibility of receiving merit as contributed a large amount to that. Now that's public though there by me a few opportunistic individuals that abuse it.

I'm going to reiterate my point that Xandry should not be punished or removed as a merit source as a result of this, but should probably consider stopping it or at the very least keep a eye out for any abuse.

As you've mentioned yourself reporting is a pretty thankless job, and can sometimes be extremely tedious, and time consuming. But, I don't think I agree that merit is the way to go about it. Plus, it's not too different to the topics that certain members have posted in the Meta section, and I think I've noticed a few members doing it in hopes of earning merit rather than just simply reporting the post.

I don't think adding some sort of criteria would be of benefit either such as x amount of reports gets you 1 merit as fundamentally that's not what the merit system was implemented for. Merit was introduced to encourage users to post high quality content by rewarding them with merit, and putting certain restrictions on users who haven't hit certain thresholds. This is mainly why a merit source dishing out merits for reports doesn't quite sit right. A merit source is appointed because of their capabilities to pick out good quality posts. Offering merit points for reports isn't encouraging quality content makers, but those who report. Yeah, I know it more reports is a good thing, and the people who regularly report should probably be noticed, and rewarding, but the merit system isn't really for that. I've received a few messages off moderators, and an admin in the past thanking me for reporting, and I'm sure that's enough of encourage for most users.

Anyway, I'll stop banging on about this. I don't think it's a major issue until the potential abuse kicks in, but then again I think Xandry is intelligent enough to determine what's abuse, and what isn't so it's probably a non issue.

If you follow your logic - there should be 3924 merit points. In reality I see 80 merit from xandry.
Don't you think you're wrong somewhere again?
It's probably not a problem currently. Although, I would be worried that the account farmers would of noticed this, and start reporting in a way to rank up. 80 merits is probably worth a lot to them. I'm guessing this is your report stats, nice one!

The only saving grace I think we have is this is in a local board, and will limit the amount of abuse.
