Does that mean these guys are just spamming the boards over and over?
Yeah, bumping the topics. What could be the reason for them doing so ? I do not see any benefit to them for doing this ? One possibility is that the projects having those threads are getting it bumped from these users for getting more visitors. Another option is that they are doing it out of ignorance, many members do this in signature campaign. They apply as a newbie without any signature. I guess the developers could be trying to get their name out there and hoping users just sign up without realizing it's already finished and do some free advertising for them. Could also be bots trying to earn money, but it seems they've specifically targeted older bounty threads.

Who knows what this guy has used to generate this gibberish. I don't think it's bad translation as I would think even basic translation would be better than this. None of this makes any sense, and it seems that he uses the same sentences a few times in his replies; Such as starting a sentence off with "to work with the moderation" which makes no sense in a lot of the topics they have replied too.
He's obviously spamming for tokens and is likely using a random word generator or some variation of that as they often use the same sort of words in their replies without making any sense.

I've fallen into this trap before that when things aren't getting dealt with you stop reporting, but this isn't the answer as there needs to be reports over a somewhat long time to get a general idea of how widespread the issue is. theymos could go and look at the french section and see that there's a lot of spam, but he doesn't know if this collates to other days. I would advise not to give up on reporting, and ask your fellow french members to not either.
Abuse could happen, but it isn't very likely and I don't think this has happened in the past? I suppose someone could use their rank as a way of persuasion, or they could target certain members that they've previously had disputes with. This would likely be brought up very quickly and addresses by theymos but, it's better to eliminate this risk by appointing someone who can be trustworthy in the first place.

You can view how much has been sent from a person/organization, however it's not going to show you what it was spent on. let's take the government for example some members of the government or representatives have been caught spending tax payers money on personal items such as cars and Ipods. Using cryptocurrency doesn't prevent these sort of people from lying about where the money was spent it only shows us that it has been spent.

I recommend you to use Nvidia Geforce GTX 1060. GTX 1060 has all the potential to bring good mining results, unfortunately, the GTX 1060 3GB version does not work with Ethereal. As you probably know, 3GB GPU can no longer store DAG files, which continue to grow in size with each new DAG period. GTX 1060 6GB has a good clockspeed frequency, but the real fun begins with overclocking. This GPU has tremendous overclocking potential that produces hashrate performance better than ever.
Let's have a look at the hashrate of 1 Nvidia Geforce GTX 1060 at stock settings: https://1stminingrig.com/nvidia-geforce-gtx-1060-mining-performance-review/"Ethereum hashrate on stock settings is 19 Mh/s with a power consumption of 100W. Card’s working temperature is 68C (154.4 F)." now if you go and look at a mining calculator and put in 19 Mh/s then you aren't going to be making much of a profit if any at all. When using it for Bitcoin you'll probably be losing money due to electricity costs and degrading a graphics card which could be put to good use for other things.

$10k is such a huge psychological pivot point... if it blows past $10k, there's no telling where it will go.
Oh really? What like it did a few weeks/months back? Because I can tell you were it went after surpassing $10k. Clue: Where it is now. In fact if you want to be picky Bitcoin nearly hit $20k. Everyone know the Bitcoin future this move higher in future Many experts are said it will pump in constantly but some dump also possible. I think this year it will reach 35k USD because Bitcoin is well reputed Cryptocurrency so many countries are accepting soon automatically it will going to peak in the market.
Conclusion: Experts have no idea where it's going and are making bold statements to remain relevant.

I doubt that he is someone that cares about the forum anyway. I'll quote up to 5 of his posts, you can check the rest of his post history . Yeah, they are obviously low quality. Although, these stupid threads that ask a generic question (The favorite website one for example) just invites these sort of users to post these replies. Looking at the threads they aren't the only one to make low quality posts.

I also have my twitter account link in one of my posts.. I can prove I own that also.
It might help you in combination with your address and signature if it has been posted using the account and not edited but, I doubt it and it isn't something which is outlined within the account recovery thread. I would leave it out, and include a little note at the bottom that you could include it if they request it. Nope, I dont have a second bitcoin address staked from what I remember, will look into it.. I have an ethereum address though, I also can provide an id if necessary because I was using my first name as a username.
ID isn't going to help the situation. Especially the if an account so happens to be a first name too as these accounts could easily be targeted by people who have a first name the same as a user name.

but posting exclusively in either Off-topic or P&S is frowned upon by a lot of people anyway. In either case, it's best to just let the mods deal with something like this (or not).
It shouldn't be frowned upon though (assuming that the user isn't spamming) just because the off topic and Politics and Society were associated with account farmers and spammers doesn't mean we should tar everything with the same brush. There's interesting topics within the Politics and Society section it was just drowned out by the abusers mentioned above and I imagine the Off topic section has quality posts too. If you post well, posting exclusively in off topic or polotics and society is fine - it's a bit unusual but...
I don't think it's usual per say. New users normally flock to these because the other main sections require a little bit of knowledge about Bitcoin.

Adage: Actions speak louder than words...
It's really time to do something. I think one (or more) moderator(s) already reported to you the issues some local forums are facing. It's not a fantasy it's a reality. Some local forums are not usable anymore for a long time. Sometimes there are more bots than members.
Not long ago while reporting in the French section, nothing was moderated, guess what? It's a moderator from another section who did the job. (@ricky---) And no sorry it isn't an isolated case.
I don't know what can be the issue you see to increase or replace the staff but trying something else can't really be worst than what some section get.
It's not so cool for the folks interested in cryptocurrencies but don't understand English. They are limited to their native language but when they see the mess I don't think it is motivating to read or participate in discussions
Appointing a moderator is fine, but there's several factors that theymos would need to consider. I doubt he's just going to appoint someone just because a few reports are made now and then. I have no idea how bad it is in the french section or any other, but it depends on how many reports are being made. Plus, then it's appointing a member who is trustworthy and isn't going to use his position with ill intent. I'm not sure if you've thought about this, but in the past a few local boards have had a sort of an election/voting system to appoint a moderator among the community. You could try that whether theymos looks at that and follows that advice will be another thing.

I would probably agree that unintentionally would only happen a few times. It's probably what the user would claim he done, but I just don't seen any reason why you would refresh the page this amount of times. Yeap, that's why I'd like to see merit disabled on most of the marketplace, since a good majority of posts there are ads. That can happen unintentionally if you refresh the merit page.
Unintentionally means, probably, messing up once or twice... :/ In the majority of the cases people are just vouching for the seller via merits. Yeah, it's not what the merit system was intended for but, I have no qualms with people using their own merit which they have earned to do this.

He has gaps in his posts, so that won't be an issue. The issue is posting only in one section maybe for the sake of ranking up to Jr. Member.
Don't think it's too much of an issue unless his posts are complete spam, but then you could just report his posts and specify that he only posts in off topic with equally rubbish posts. Most of his posts are one-liner posts and the rest are just plainly one-word without any reasoning or explanation at all.
If they have no context then report them.

The "watchdog" system is already in place here at the forum. You'll find that a few members here keep their eye out for potential scams and try and stop them before too many people get hurt. You'll find quite a few of these people on DefaultTrust and the lower depths of it. If you ever think something may well be a scam then check out the scam accusations section and do a quick search. If they are a popular company/service then it's likely someone has already asked the question themselves.

I can tell you now that there's no conspiracy here and you aren't being targeted. At least by staff members you aren't as they have better ways to spend their time and I doubt someone from the community is targeting you this way. I have been writing posts in several topics but just, politics and society mods are always deleting all my posts. And, It is totally natural that I want to be informed about this constant deleting. Different mods in different sections will have different tolerance levels. Plus, just because you have posts deleted in one section doesn't mean your other posts are worthy of deletion either. There have been a lot of irrelevant posts and posts which are not even in english.
Report them then? Like I said above you aren't being targeted here. Plus, it's likely your posts are being reported by a member of the community, and then being dealt with by a mod. That member might not know that non English posts aren't allowed and doesn't report them. I do not think all of my posts are completely irrelevant. I am begging for a logical explanation. No offense meant ...
Take a look at the posts that have been deleted and try and find some pattern to them.

Right I see. I had a feeling that it might of been incompatibilities with the latest version of Bitcoin-qt and the version of Ubuntu you were running, but wasn't sure. If it wasn't the only program running though it was likely an installation issue rather than compatibility issues.
Glad you got it sorted.

Nah. You aren't going to stop scams globally, although there are ways to prevent it. Such ways could be a watchdog system which identifies scams and lets the public know. Although, this is subjective and can lead to bias so would need trustworthy individuals running it. Honestly, though I don't think we need to babysit everyone and people will need to make their own mistakes and learn from them. I don't want to see anyone scammed but, it's simply impossible to stop.

Right! If we use public DNS servers, it is very easy to steal passwords and information. This will reveal the secrets of your trading. And maybe your money is stolen quickly. To invest in bitcoin use a dedicated computer for bitcoin safety.
It's worth noting that if you are using any DNS sever then you should trust the source. So if you don't trust your ISP then you probably shouldn't use their DNS sever. as advised, always protect your browser before accessing anything website that you store your funds in, Kaspersky antivirus is a good one. and secondly be self-conscious, don't store all your funds on one wallet, split it to different wallets. I have more than 7 wallets. if a hacker mistakenly gains access to your wallet, you will still be left with something because you didn't store all your coin in one particular wallet.
I swear by extensions such as noscript suite which prevent's javascript and other things from running automatically. It's probably better protection that an anti virus, although can also be used in combination with anti virus software.

I think hilariousandco can unlock accounts which have been inactive and were locked through the automatic system put in place. But, I don't see why we couldn't extend this and allow him to recover accounts completely if he were willing to do so.
cyrus seems the most active at least publicly in recovering the accounts. But, I guess each case takes a lot of investigation work and isn't just as simple as signing a message and verifying it.
|
|
|
It's only theymos and Cyrus who can help you. No one else has that power.
Wait for theymos to respond/Cyrus to respond to aid the recovery.
If you followed everything in the sticky correctly, everything should be fine and your account should be recovered.
Expanding upon this. Don't expect to get it within a few weeks as there's a lot of requests and it seems a lot of people have been waiting. Although, locked accounts do seem to get recovered a little quicker than the ones which are still being actively used by the hacker.

Report it. 17. Trading of goods that are illegal in the seller's or buyer's country is forbidden. The fact that selling illegal databases, or illegal obtaining them is forbidden worldwide then I would think that this would be eligible for removal and possibly even more severe actions being taken against the OP of that thread. You've already made an archive of the thread so it doesn't matter if the original one disappears and prevents others from buying that database or getting scammed as the user doesn't look to be using a escrow.
