581  Economy / Invites & Accounts / Re: Account seller is Back on: August 25, 2023, 04:50:19 AM
And I totally agree.

I never understood why they allow people to sell their accounts to each other here. It's indefensible. Or maybe I am missing something here? Inform me about it. I want to know both arguments.

Well, you could search, since this was answered before many times.
Basically it's the free speech. If that is banned it means more work for moderators and the sales will move to other platforms. No use. Now, if caught, seller and buyer may get negative trust which in many cases means ruined account. Good enough.
582  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: A must read if you are running Crypto wallet on PC on: August 25, 2023, 04:36:26 AM
Sorry to ask, is there another means to store my coin without having to get a wallet only pc? I am aware that for one to be able to purchase a coin worth $5k in the first place they should be able to have spare for the security of the coin but what about that of someone who have just a few hundred dollars worth of Bitcoin? Is there a way to store them that will provide more security to the coins?

I'm still a beginner at Bitcoin and the whole thing but I feel it's important to learn about security for future reference.

If you know what you are doing, even a separate USB stick (with a live OS and so on) will do.
But if you are a newbie and not that knowledgeable with computers too maybe, then hardware wallet should be your friend.

I used WinRAR many years ago. Now I see it as an outdated software, 7zip being superior. But I know many people that are so used to WinRAR they still have it. Thanks OP for the warning.
583  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Electrum server on Windows: Fulcrum on: August 21, 2023, 07:39:29 AM
Did you find Fulcrum stop/restart issues with SSD or it's only for HDD?

It's not issues, it's just slowness at start/sync on HDD.
And no, I can't tell about SSD because a new SSD was not in the plan yet. (I'd say you know how that goes).
584  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Ledger doesn't show transaction, it shows up in Electrum. What's going on? on: August 20, 2023, 04:39:29 PM
Any thoughts?

The title is highly deceptive. Open your Ledger, select Bitcoin app and make in Electrum a new wallet off that
Until then I agree with @nc50lc: the xpub is most probably unrelated to your Ledger addresses.

Here is the Ledger guide on extracting an xpub - https://support.ledger.com/hc/en-us/articles/360011069619-Extended-public-key-xPub
Did you follow these steps?

I would start with same setup, i.e. actual Ledger in Electrum. Then find out how that odd xpub has transactions. Isn't that the right way?
585  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: YOU ARE LUCKY TO BE IN THIS FORUM on: August 20, 2023, 03:46:32 PM
I'll be honest, I'm a bit fed up with this kind of posts that are a blatant attempt to get merit.

I had a short moment of thinking whether I should merit or not.. and I decided to not merit.
However, while I do agree with you on merit fishing threads, we also need this kind of "this forum is really good" ones too.

My crypto mentor told me that only whales can invest in Bitcoin, and I also see reason with him.

Change your mentor, then. And your thinking.

I think that he should just fire his mentor and not get another.
Mentors are human and humans can make mistakes or just be greedy (charge, but not know what they're talking about or simply scam).

A change in thinking plus a good reading (and asking questions too, publicly) should do much more than any mentor.

I imagine how will I invest $50 in Bitcoin and make a good profit from it, but this forum has changed my thought on Bitcoin that it is not too late to invest in Bitcoin. What I just need to do is to buy Bitcoin and hold at a price that if it dumps will not affect my holding that much because a new all-time high is coming.

You are on a good/better path, but you are only "touching the surface". You should go farther, especially with the knowledge. Then you can also decide better for your investments.
586  Economy / Speculation / Re: 1 Bitcoin will be $173,566 before November, 2025 on: August 20, 2023, 02:51:09 PM
The assumption and speculation will still remain until your prediction on the value price of bitcoin in the coming 2025 does not happen. But to be honest, your analysis is pretty good. I hope that prediction happens.

It's one of the most honest, detailed and "well documented" speculations I've ever got to see.
The analysis looks great, but since nobody can honestly pretend that he can foresee the future, this remains a speculation, as OP nicely and correcly warned.
587  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Electrum server on Windows: Fulcrum on: August 20, 2023, 11:54:10 AM
I can't afford buying another SSD for some months

I have even Bitcoin Core on HDD. Yes, I've done the IBD with chainstate and indexes temporarily on a SSD.
Clearly, Fulcrum DB creation will be awfully slow on HDD, but it works. I've done that too.
Imho after the initial DB creation the difference in performance may not be great (if you don't stop Fulcrum).

For me the sync after stop/restart (on HDD) was the thing that made me give up Fulcrum and keep Electrs.
588  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 12vZGymxSfbXmYB6tHYS4oM8kMYYBxDZHx = SATOSHI ? on: August 19, 2023, 08:39:39 AM
Very suspicious transfers. I read the news that 400.000 BTC were transferred from old wallets in August!

All I see somewhat suspicious (lol!!) here is that newbies come with "highly suspicious" things that are pretty normal. Is it some weak attempt for FUD? It's highly possible. Just saying...
589  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Electrum server on Windows: Fulcrum on: August 19, 2023, 05:59:37 AM
Electrum wallet with EPS doesn't require Ethereum blockchain download but the link's saying Fulcrum needs 102GB download. I'd prefer waiting a few minutes for rescan after manually adding master public key/address to my config.ini instead of adding 102GB extra blockchain to my SSD.

I'm not sure what you have misunderstood, but Ethereum is not part of this discussion.
And afaik Fulcrum doesn't download those GB, it creates its database from what it reads from bitcoin core.

About taste, I prefer Electrs, but Fulcrum has its use if one has a server running 24/7 and wants various data, from multiple wallets in Electrum to a local block explorer.

My Windows EPS gives instant TXIDs messages when I'm sending or receiving so it's good performance after it's rescanned. If that's the only difference I wouldn't test Fulcrum because EPS provides something similar for less blockchain download.

Does Fulcrum only run in CLI or conjunction with Electrum wallet after it's downloaded on Windows?

As I said, it's a matter of taste and use. Can "your" EPS serve a local block explorer? (rhetorical, I know it cannot).
Fulcrum is a server on top of Bitcoin Core(*) that implements the protocol Electrum is using. Many others use that protocol (Sparrow can use it, block explorers use it), but that doesn't mean that Electrum is needed to be installed in order to have Fulcrum working.

(*) afaik it also works with BCH or BSV, I don't know nor care which one of them and what server that one has; that's off topic anyway.

592  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is it worth it to teach older people about bitcoin technology? on: August 18, 2023, 07:04:42 PM
It depends greatly on what you mean by elderly (45 yo, 85 yo?), on that person's background (should have some computer related knowledge or at least not be afraid of them) and the willingness to learn about all this.

This being said, there's no definitive yes/no answer to OP question.
593  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: It's 2140. All the Bitcoin is now mined, only mining transactions make $ on: August 17, 2023, 06:14:27 AM
so.. you want bitcoin to become a government network.. and users thrown over to silly subnetworks that have flaws and no security.. um no.. but ill just say: goodbye, so long and thanks for the fish.. if thats your guide to the crypto galaxy

id rather us normal folk get to use the secure bitcoin network and its the banks that do stupid stuff charging people middle men fees on their silly corporate designed subnetworks that require middle-men to route payments.

I don't realistically expect people pay the equivalent of 100s of $ for sending "small" amounts on chain.
And for the fees to drop to bearable amounts... something big (and possibly bad) would have to happen (to get miners think it over)

Maybe something better and safer than LN will get invented...

Sadly some of the infinite supply altcoins may be the only ones that could be used in the way you say... if they survive until 2140...
594  Economy / Economics / Re: Escrows: probably unavoidable human intervention for fiat/BTC exchanges on: August 17, 2023, 05:54:04 AM
Why it's need escrow? because fiat is reversible currency,

This sums it up perfectly.
Bitcoin is perfect in a (physical) shop: you get the goods, the seller gets the money. When reversible items are involved, then escrow is a must.

This being said, fiat/BTC exchange is possible without escrow when fiat is in a physical form, hence cannot be reversed. But this is not the target for OP topic. For online exchange I agree, escrow is necessary. Sadly there are plenty of people who prefer to try to scam...
595  Other / Off-topic / Re: Job for others country! on: August 17, 2023, 04:19:21 AM
I made translations for people on this forum I don't know what countries they were from. And got paid in bitcoin.

There are websites for online jobs, but mostly paid in fiat money. Visa was possible in the past (not easy), I don't know now since online working became extremely popular. However, this is a bitcoin forum and your questions may be off topic...

597  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: It's 2140. All the Bitcoin is now mined, only mining transactions make $ on: August 17, 2023, 04:04:58 AM
This was asked and answered before and I'm not sure what you expect to see here. We can write any science fiction essay we want and I would be surprised if reality will not beat at least some of them.

I like to think that bitcoin will be used as reserve by central banks, only large transactions will go on-chain and the bulk will happen on alternative channels (LN and similar), also that even states or banks will mine (for a good hash rate and also for including their own transactions into the mined blocks).

Interesant concurs! Plus că mă bucur că apare ceva nou īn această perioadă mai... monotonă.
Sper să nu uit să particip peste vreo o săptămānă, că vreau să mai găsesc idei de manageri. Wink
600  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Invoices through Crypto on: August 09, 2023, 06:43:00 PM
1% is not a big amount and one can easily bear this cost if he need a crypto invoice for his customer. Crypto payments are blessing for freelancers that let them receive there money with zero cut.

1% is not big, it's huge. This kind of service could have a chance as donation-based. As it is, I agree with the others: it looks more like an attempt to rip off the people who don't know how bitcoin works.
