622  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Casino games and the house edge : Players odds to win? on: December 26, 2023, 12:10:01 AM
(...)
but for most legit sites, they should display the RTP or the HE of each game. most are not visible for the players to see, usually, you have to press the question markt (?) button or the info button (!) on each side of the game

Thanks. It's been a very long while since I played slots or similar games. If the "info" button is now the standard, that's great to hear. I think every reputable site should have such information displayed.

I have the impression people just don't care about house edge these days anymore (...)

I think the subject of HE was mostly (or only) discussed in the dice-type game threads. Those games would do pretty well in terms of transparency. Even if the HE was not explicitly stated, you could easily calculate it from the odds, that were always disclosed.

It's an absurd! Do you remember which casino was that?

I think I know, but not 100% sure, as that was years ago, so prefer not to say as I could be wrong and give the site an undeserved bad publicity.

624  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Can Bitcoin create an opportunity to reduce poverty? on: December 25, 2023, 11:51:32 PM
So I really believe that bitcoin can offer opportunities that will reduce our poverty, that is if you are knowledgeable enough to use bitcoin in the proper way.

What kind of opportunities are you talking about exactly? And what is the proper way of using Bitcoin?
Note that OP is talking about reducing poverty on a macro level, not about individuals getting rich from trading Bitcoin.

The sad truth is that Bitcoin currently is not fit to be used for anything other than trading/speculation (and maybe for transfers of large amounts of wealth).
625  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: It is you who can't stop betting. on: December 25, 2023, 11:42:15 PM
Happy Christmas to all gamblers. I have been reading some threads and comments that many people have been saying that they find it very difficult to stop gambling (not only gambling addicts), but on one hand, I really think that it is not hard to quit gambling even when you are winning and not winning, but it is you who can't control yourself. Bets can not force one to stake, but a gambler can force themselves to stake a bet, even when he or she does not have money to bet. Some gamblers did not learn how to gamble. They just see themselves doing it, but they can't stop it. Why because they can't control themselves, even when they are not an addicted gambler?
What do we have to say about this?

I agree with your general thought, but you phrased your post a little bit weirdly. I don't think anyone would argue that casinos/gambling sites are forcing them to make bets against their will. So you're essentially stating the obvious - people who consider themselves addicted, don't feel like they have control over it.
But I think the "lack of control" over one's actions is mostly an excuse. We are more than animals driven by instincts, everyone has the ability to develop self-discipline and take back control over their lives, even if it can be hard sometimes.
626  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🥊 The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: December 25, 2023, 11:30:00 PM
It's very strange that he wants to fight a fit name like Michael Chandler for a comeback. He hasn't fought for 2 years and fighting Chandler directly in the cage after his injury is a loss for McGregor, no matter how you look at it. He should definitely stay out of the top 10 for his first fight back. However, when the audience hears that two such popular names will fight, they will be very excited for this match no matter what, if this fight actually happens. I think it won't happen much. McGregor may change targets later.

Realistically, if not Chandler, who else can he fight?
It's a simple logic really, he'll either manage to return to a proper shape or not. If he does - he should be able to give a good fight against Chandler and possibly win it, given Chandler represents a style that suits McGregor's counterstriking. If he doesn't, he would likely lose any fight, even against low-ranked fighters, which would probably mark the end of his career (whether losing to Chandler could still be excused).
And given it could be his last fight, he needs to fight some big name to get that PPV sales up and earn decent pay for himself.

Yup and Costa has had a couple of weight cut issues in the past.  I guess it would depend what version of Costa turns up during an event.  If it's a motivated and laser focused Costa, he could win vs Whittaker esp now that DDP has showed that the blitzes Whittaker does could be stopped.

Given the long period of inactivity, the injury, and the comedian role he decided to play recently - I find it hard to imagine Costa being laser-focused and highly motivated. Then again, it's hard to say how big of a mental impact the loss to Du Plessis has had on Whittaker. Both will have a lot to prove in that fight, which makes it extra interesting.
627  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Which type of gambling have more gambling addicts ? on: December 25, 2023, 11:05:08 PM
Gambling is very addictive, so knowing the actual bet that has more addicts will be very difficult for anyone unless for the people that are into it, let me use soccer as an example, do you know that when you are involved in soccerbet more especially an online bet, you will be made to be crediting your online account all the time in other to continue indulging in it, the little money you get you will be moved to gamble with it, I don't know much about other gamble but this soccer has shown me something that's why am using it as an example, calculating this will need each gambler data to vote for us to know the actual percentage.

Not to say that gambling addiction is not a problem, but you're exaggerating a lot here. You make it sound like everyone who ever gets involved in soccer betting will inevitably lose all their money.
You might be fighting a good fight here, but, luckily, most gamblers can keep it under control and know where to draw a line.
Personally, I'd only bet when I see a good opportunity, i.e. where I think the odds are misplaced.

The intelligence level of some of the people at FT is abysmally low.  They do tend to be on the authoritarian statist side of the aisle, so it isn't surprising that they push an anti-bitcoin agenda at every turn.

Nah, they know better than that. As much as they were almost entirely anti-bitcoin in its early years, currently, they would mix the negative and (somewhat) positive articles about BTC/crypto. They cannot go on an open crusade against it, as that would make them look silly and unprofessional. By now, it's pretty obvious that crypto is not some sort of short-lived fad and it's here to stay.
Case in point: yesterday's article "Bitcoin leaves the rest of the crypto market behind" https://www.ft.com/content/5160b007-5e68-423d-8a6c-a0fdef6199f4
629  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🥊 The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: December 23, 2023, 10:03:03 PM
Just Aljo vs Kattar looks strange, as Kattar is from other division. What is this? After a loss to O’Malley, Aljo desided to move to higher division? And what he expects to achieve there? He is no match for Volk.

This is nothing new, Aljo stated that he wanted to move up to the featherweight before his fight with O'Malley. Obviously, the plan was to defeat O'Malley and fight Volk after that. But ass that didn't work out too well, he will now face No. 7 contender instead.
I'm not sure why he wants to move up. Possibly it's the difficulty of cutting weight, but more likely - money, There's more going on in the featherweight than the bantamweight, more bigger names and therefore better earning opportunities.
630  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Casino games and the house edge : Players odds to win? on: December 22, 2023, 08:37:43 PM
Thanks for starting this topic. Even though those odds can vary between casinos, it's good to at least have some idea of what to expect from each type of game.
Personally, I think there should be a legal requirement (or just a good custom) to display odds for any type of game, especially online ones. It's crazy to think how many players don't even care about the odds and would only focus on the entertainment side (flashy animations etc).
I remember enquiring to the customer service of one of the crypto-casinos years ago about the house edge for some of their slot-type game (if I remember correctly) and not only the customer service could not give me an answer - they didn't even know what the house edge was.
631  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Can Bitcoin create an opportunity to reduce poverty? on: December 22, 2023, 08:19:31 PM
I don't really think that Bitcoin and cryptocurrency in general can reduce poverty in the world or in any country unless we have a good economy. In fact, Bitcoin was not created to eradicate poverty in the world or in any nation; it was created as an alternative to fiat currency in others. We can use it to secure funds so that we can be fully in control of our funds. And one thing I know about Bitcoin again is that it can be a great help to us against inflation because fiat currency losses value in the short term, and when you invest in Bitcoin for a long period of time, it is very possible that money will keep growing when the price of Bitcoin is increasing, but I will advise you not to invest the money you want us between short-term bitcoin investments.

Sure, Bitcoin is not some magic pill that would solve all the economic problems only if people start using it - it could actually be the opposite: too many people using it = even more congested blockchain making it unusable. But the protection against inflation aspect is not something to be taken lightly. I don't think people truly realise how destructive high inflation is to the common people. It can wipe out the value of lifetime savings in a very short time. It's like a tax being charged over and over again on the same amount with no limits. So having a censorship-free tool that allows preservation of wealth (or even increases it if the market moves in the right direction) could at least prevent poor people from getting even poorer.
632  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Who says you can't be a millionaire in sports betting? on: December 22, 2023, 08:02:35 PM
(...) but if gamblers want to make a lot of money by becoming millionaires from these bets, then I think they should also be prepared to lose millions of dollars on it.

Why though? You don't need to risk millions to be able to win millions. As in the bet in the OP, it's possible to win bigger money with a relatively small stake.
It's a well-known strategy, play only with what you can afford to lose, say $100 each month, make a parlay bet with a high payout rate, if you win, do it few more times until you're a millionaire. Chances might be slim, but still better strategy than playing lotto.

(...) and the Welterweight against Leon Edwards is a sure good fight but what if Shavkat Rakhmonov defeated Leon Edwards then we will see an Islam Makhachev, VS Shavkat Rakhmonov, and that in my opinion will be more awesome than with Leon Edwards,

But it's not confirmed that Shavkat will be fighting Leon next, is it? If not, Islam could fight say Gaethje next and then Leon straight after. I'm sure Leon wouldn't mind waiting a bit as, unlike a fight with Rakhmonov, that would be a big money fight.
And the UFC could match up Rakhmonov with Belal, and whoever wins will get the next title shot.
Seeing Islam Vs Shavkat would be amazing, but I'm not sure if Islam would still want to move if Shavkat was the champion. Clearly, he sees Leon as an easy opponent.

Is anyone really interested in seeing McGregor vs Chandler fight? First of all this is not the best match-up for return after 2 year pause and injury. Also Chandler would drag Conor to deep waters easily imho. Third reason, is Conor really able to compete on top level as others right now? I think he is not a match for anyone on top15 right now. Maybe RDA, that is too old for lightweight, can give him a close fight, other will outstrike or submit hit.

I'll say yes, but there are plenty of other fights I prefer to see instead. I consider Conor effectively retired, he has a completely different energy than he had in his prime. This will probably be a deciding fight for him, if he gets defeated easily by Chandler, I don't think he'll step into the octagon ever again. Chandler will be a big favourite, but I've heard some commentators saying that out of all the top fighters in the lightweight, Chandler's style suits Conor the most.
636  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Which type of gambling have more gambling addicts ? on: December 21, 2023, 10:46:49 PM
A long time ago, many parents didn't like these games as they were struggling to control their kids by allowing time to them. But this time, these kids have grown up and they've got more money for the games that they want and they can buy as many as they can and the same goes with gambling. Everyone can gamble as long as they have money on their bankrolls.

I'm a bit more optimistic about that, I think the majority of people who grew up with access to video games developed some control mechanisms to prevent them from falling too deep into playing. They had no choice really, they had all the games available but also had other responsibilities and probably noticed first-hand all the negative sides of spending too much time playing.
Of course there are plenty of people who failed to develop enough self-control to keep healthy limits. Also, the gaming/gambling industries are known to use psychologists to produce games that are as addictive as possible, which is an ugly side of this business and it makes it harder to fight back.

637  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Who says you can't be a millionaire in sports betting? on: December 21, 2023, 10:32:25 PM
The winnings are also not life-changing (meaning he could not retire with that amount alone), so there's nothing wrong in putting some of it back and hoping for even bigger win. Especially if we consider that the guy was pretty skilled in analysing odds rather than relying on a pure luck.
In today's value of that money, it's true that it's not life changing but with such amount. It can help that person do important things that he need to do with that kind of amount. Still, it's a big help.

But if he decides to bet that back or a few amount of it, then good luck because chances that it may repeat is unlikely.

Oh for sure, having an extra $18k is a nice boost and could be used for a lot of useful things (e.g. a deposit to buy a property, or for education fees etc).
But if he wanted to put it (or just some of it) back in the play, he wouldn't be aiming for another x1,000 but for something much more modest. Probably doing another x20 could earn him enough to retire, considering the average monthly salary in the Philippines is only around $330 (per Google search).
638  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: The SEC Struggles to Recruit Crypto Experts, Report Says on: December 21, 2023, 10:20:06 PM
Is it good news though? I mean I feel like in order to move forward with beneficial regulation it would be really great to have a very wise crypto figure to take that spot to help guide the SEC to the most beneficial regulations that promotes liberty and prosperity! Its the dumbest thing ever. Owning something is a human right, you can't tell someone that they can't own Bitcoin when everything that they do profesisonally relates to it! That would drive a man insane.

Hard to say if it's good or bad. I agree that it's probably not good news, as they won't be moving forward without access to proper expertise. But then again, them "moving forward" could mean more strict regulations, so who knows?
I don't think this would affect Bitcoin though, it's probably more about coins/tokens with more complex blockchains and utility.

There's also a risk that, being unable to recruit proper experts, they will take on board whoever's available, creating a risk of some stupid, unreasonable decisions/interpretations.
639  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🥊 The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: December 21, 2023, 10:06:29 PM
Yes, it was posted by TopTort777 in this thread if you missed the video link here it is https://www.thescore.com/mma/news/2797595 Islam Makhachev has hinted at something that I think he wants maybe Leon Edwards, I think Islam Makhachev needs to really fight in a different division if in his division he is dominating it, then he really needs to move into another division, I think he can dominate the Featherweight as well, so if he can clear the Welterweight then he can surely get 3 belts next year, that is if he can defeat Shavkat Rakhmonov,

Thanks a lot. Moving up would be a good move. I'm sure he would get the title shot against Leon straight away, that's unless the UFC did not approve the move and wanted him to stick to the lightweight only.
Looking at things from his perspective, he dedicated all his life, including childhood, to fighting and probably wants to achieve greater things than just having one fight a year. He's in his prime and this is the time to make a push to build a legacy.
I think he should be fighting Gaethje next, then move up to fight Leon then pick the best fights in either weight class.
I have my doubts if he would make the cut for the featherweight, that could be a bit too much for him, but it would be great to see him against Topuria, who, I think, has a big chance of de-troning Volk.

Aldo and Tony have two different kind of mental problems. If Conor made Aldo mad and planted a seed of hesitation in his head. Then Tony's madness is fighting demons in his head. The guy is simply crazy. If he wasnt so popular, he would be in lunatic asylum long time ago. https://www.attacktheback.com/a-detailed-timeline-on-tony-fergusons-mental-health/ this is an old article, but read what crazy stuff he did, and that was only 4 years ago. He has visited treatment facilities, but they did not cure him completely.

That's pretty bad if true. It raises a question if the UFC should be introducing some psychiatric screening for the fighters. Hope he gets his head sorted.
