Also need to consider that someone with a compromised forum account, it's possible that they lost control of their private keys as well. It can get complicated quickly, and sometimes the only thing to do is nothing.
702  Other / Meta / Re: Can I report for thread merge ? on: August 29, 2014, 05:17:25 PM
Best to just report it as a dupe and the mod responding can figure out the best course of action.
703  Other / Meta / Re: Unofficial list of (official) Bitcointalk.org rules, guidelines, FAQ on: August 29, 2014, 02:26:37 PM
In regards to account recovery, did theymos or someone say somewhere to message Default trust with you address or something?
I did that a while ago. Would Stunna's confirmation that address xxx (listed on profile) was used for payout + me signing a message from it be enough?
I like to be prepared.
The address in your profile can easily be edited if you have lost your account. So can be posts. E.g. I could "quote" one of your posts saying that you own address X and use that later to hijack your account.

The PM to DefaultTrust is probably the only method that can not be manipulated later. As long as DefaultTrust does not delete your PM (not likely since this was suggested by theymos) its still on the server, but can not be edited.
I know that, this is why I'm asking would Stunna's confirmation be enough.
I've been with PD a while and have gotten a few payments; he could easily confirm that the address was owned by Lauda i.e. me. I was input from BB on this matter.

It's best to not have to rely on third parties, not only would one have to trust you, one would have to trust Stunna as well, and there is already enough to consider without having to throw that into the mix.
704  Other / Meta / Re: Unofficial list of (official) Bitcointalk.org rules, guidelines, FAQ on: August 29, 2014, 01:28:59 PM
Yeah that's fine, be careful who you trust with your account though, don't count on getting help if the other party steals it, sells it, or loses control of it somehow.
705  Other / Meta / Re: Can I report for thread merge ? on: August 29, 2014, 01:24:38 PM
Merging topics is actually disabled, mods can't merge, theymos doesn't like it too much. Admins can, I generally only do it if the topics are literally the same topic, like a seller made multiple threads and more than one has substantial replies.

Those two threads are pretty similar, but the first one has a specific question that isn't addressed in the other, about no fee services, so merging them may cause confusion. If two threads about the same article are posted it's probably better to lock or remove the new topic with a link to the already existing thread, if it's caught early and there's no good replies yet. If not, merging may be okay, it depends, sometimes two topics about the same thing can go in different directions and merging would not be desirable.
706  Other / Meta / Re: @ Eal F. Skillz on: August 29, 2014, 06:36:12 AM
It came up in the staff forum, I (and theymos IIRC) confirmed it there.
707  Other / Meta / Re: @Mods - Cryptopaths MAGOR PROBLEM - URGENT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! on: August 29, 2014, 06:12:16 AM

@BadBear

You do realize that you have banned the "Chief of the Crypto Police" right?

~BCX~

Technically no one has the authority to ban me. It was most likely a misunderstanding.

Strictly speaking, this is a privately owned forum, we have the right to remove people or restrict entry here, just as you do on in your home or business, though we try to allow as much freedom as possible. This is not censorship or restricting anyone's free speech, and it is not comparable to the enslaving and murder of millions of people (auschwitz reference in merged topic title, BTW this is very demeaning to those who suffered true hardship). The fact that you find this a good comparison because you were banned from an internet forum for a few days, your self given title of "Chief of the CPD", and the statement quoted above...You are either trolling or there's something very wrong with you, and all you've done is prove us right.
708  Other / Meta / Re: @Mods - Cryptopaths MAGOR PROBLEM - URGENT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! on: August 29, 2014, 03:50:09 AM
Last post =/= time banned

I don't know how many hours, but less than a day. It's automatic.
709  Other / Meta / Re: @Mods - Cryptopaths MAGOR PROBLEM - URGENT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! on: August 29, 2014, 03:40:32 AM
Recheck your math, it was 4 days ago.

Also you don't need to make 2 topics about the same issue (merged).
710  Other / Meta / Re: Forum ranks/positions/badges (What do those shiny coins under my name mean?) on: August 28, 2014, 01:42:26 PM
Yeah you're wrong.

You only need to post FUD filled rants 14 times every two weeks to maximize your activity. Assuming your posts exceed your activity. If they don't then you may be able to do more than 14.
711  Other / Meta / Re: What's the target for reported posts to become moderator? on: August 28, 2014, 12:28:34 PM
I don't know why anyone would want to be a moderator. It's a horrible thankless* job where you get bitched at constantly for doing the right thing, harassed by trolls when you try to rein them in, people judging you constantly who don't even have the information they need to make a proper judgement, and giving them said information would compromise someone's privacy. Privacy wins, so you have to shut up and be perceived as the bad guy.

*Not entirely thankless anymore, theymos does help us out with the mod payments, though TBH that's not really enough sometimes.
712  Other / Meta / Re: Possible bot spammer? on: August 28, 2014, 08:58:12 AM
Banned, thanks.
713  Other / Meta / Re: Change start topic owner on: August 28, 2014, 03:34:23 AM
Theymos has done it before but he's away atm. Maybe Badbear can do it now though.
I doubt it. I think theymos mentioned has to directly edit the database to change the ownership of a thread which BadBear doesn't have access to, as far as I know.

Correct.

"hacked"

715  Other / Meta / Re: Does this forum need any more moderators? (28 in total) on: August 26, 2014, 12:40:33 PM
To be specific, I was thinking more along the lines of splitting up the different sections to different people, targeting specific sections that need it, and splitting up the workload among several people (at least 4 or 5), instead of piling it all up on one or two global mods. It leads to people getting burned out.
716  Other / Meta / Re: Does this forum need any more moderators? (28 in total) on: August 26, 2014, 12:00:30 PM
Yes, we've been talking about it. I have some ideas but I need to think about it some more.

Cyrus moderates Romanian and "Other", which does comprise of many languages, but most aren't active enough to need a dedicated moderator yet(if they were it'd be best to give them their own board).
717  Other / Meta / Re: Does this forum need any more moderators? (28 in total) on: August 26, 2014, 11:37:58 AM
Some restructuring needs to be done, as of the 4 global moderators only one is what I'd consider active. It's not really a lot of mods as each foreign language boards need at least one moderator, some have two, and one or two have three. Some of the staff are patrollers who can only moderate newbies, though some are both patrollers and also have their own board. A couple of the staff don't moderate at all, for example the slickage dev.

718  Other / Meta / Re: Been Pissing me off lately, anyone else? on: August 26, 2014, 04:06:09 AM
Well I mean like I've seen tons of posts before with sketchy links and it's like >.o come on. Then everyone else calls it spyware or something to steal your wallet.
If you don't report how can you complain about it? If you see any thing which is against the guidelines, report it and quit complaining. The thing is the moderators can't act on something if they don't know about it.

BiPolarBob GOT A 30 DAY BAN because he was giving away LTC in a "giveaway not allowed section" OK
Even, though "BiPolarBob" was doing a great thing, he still broke one of the rules which is quite clear and precise. Being the greatest user on the forum which has donated hundreds of dollars doesn't make the exempt from the rules. It's like saying someone donated millions to charity but, then stole from a old lady should not be put in prison. (Of course it could be anyone not just a old lady I did that because people react more severely too more vulnerable people for some silly reason)

Quote from: Jaaawsh
YOU DON'T FUCKING LET THERE BE GIVEAWAYS BUT THE THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS SCAMMED DAILY ON HERE IS OKAY USERS NEVER GET BANNED FOR THAT!?
I fully support why the staff don't ban scammers, people need to stop relying on others and use your own initiative and intelligence.

Note: It's not that I'm against "BiPolarBob" he actually did a really nice thing for me and Arklan, but that doesn't change the fact a rule was broken.

The funny thing about this is you probably don't report yourself and because you are a hero member you thought your opinion counts more than anyone else...just a bipolarbob hater thats all you are the OP has a good point. he should not be banned as he has been giving away $$$$$ and not asking anything for return.

He reports quite often actually, pretty good reports too.

Giveaways are fine, asking people to spam threads for it is not.

If you disagree with the rules, fine, make your own forum and you'll figure out why we do things the way we do eventually. But if you're going to post here you still need to follow them.

Malware gets removed when we see it, but we won't see it if it isn't reported.
719  Other / Meta / Re: Policy on Mods accepting bribes on: August 25, 2014, 12:06:35 PM
Mods can accept bribes?  Sounds great!  How do I get to be a mod then?

Forgot to answer this.

Bribes obviously.
720  Other / Meta / Re: Policy on Mods accepting bribes on: August 25, 2014, 05:09:36 AM
Before, weren't we able to see mod actions (like "Jim banned by BadBear. Reason: talked shit about Usenet." - but mostly thread move & deletion spam)? Is there any reason that isn't public data? Worried about kids walking in on what the adults say in the teacher's lounge? Cheesy

Most actions are public yes, through the  modlog but not users or mods involved. Need to know, etc.
