I've responded to you four or five times, I'm not going to waste my time repeating myself over and over just because you don't like the answer.
1042  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Giveaway threads are not allowed on: May 14, 2014, 03:12:20 PM
As long as people don't need to post here or in that thread to meet the criteria for it. If you want to verify BCT accounts you can use profile fields, pm's, signatures, or something else like that.
1043  Other / Meta / Re: Why was dank banned again? on: May 14, 2014, 03:04:44 PM
He wasn't, his ban expired before he posted dankcoin and he wasn't banned again, he's probably locked up in the psych ward based on his last post.  Undecided
1044  Other / Meta / Re: You must be at least a Jr. Member to vote in polls on: May 13, 2014, 05:02:39 AM
This came in so suddenly. At least will there be an option to make a poll open to everyone in the future?

Not really suddenly, it was suggested a while back because people have been abusing it for some time, someone botted thousands of votes a while back with 0 post newbie accounts. Now at least they have to put some effort into it and will increase their chances of being caught.
1045  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Giveaway threads are not allowed on: May 12, 2014, 04:25:13 PM
honestly, i came to this forum because someone posted on another forum that someone here was giving away free coffeecoin.. or something or other...
however i need 20 posts before i can be in the running to receive any... this was a few days ago now, not sure if the deal is even still on.
but i have got caught up reading around... and only made a few posts.

seems like you have a good forum going on here...
i am pretty new to this whole coin thing... i have had some for a while, but still a total newbie.. haven't made one cent yet.
lost about 5 bucks thou Cheesy

This post sums up alt currencies pretty well.

Lure them in with giveaways, then fleece them.
1046  Other / Meta / Re: The trust system is being abused. on: May 10, 2014, 01:45:07 PM
There is fact checking, users are fully capable of doing that on their own as long as they have access to all the information. If we start removing feedback based on our opinions, or our interpretation of the facts, then they no longer have access to all the information, only the information we decide they should have, which isn't right.
1047  Other / Meta / Re: Banned account on: May 10, 2014, 01:41:08 PM
There is a general ban list yes, and mod logs. For the sig advertising spammers I have a thread dedicated to that viewable by all staff that has a list, for both transparency and future reference.

Not gonna say how I caught you, because then all the signature service threads will be full of "Don't do x!". They already kind of are, but it's mostly false assumptions.
1048  Other / Meta / Re: The trust system is being abused. on: May 10, 2014, 01:19:16 PM
but you'd rather be lazy and have someone else do it for you

I'd rather see moderators make an effort to create a honest system, which is based on facts.

Having an elite few with the ability to arbitrarily decide which feedback should be left/removed isn't the way towards an honest system. No it isn't perfect, but having it be moderated by a select few would make it worthless. The only reason you disagree is because in this instance it would benefit you, but you need to look at the bigger picture.
1049  Other / Meta / Re: Banned account on: May 10, 2014, 01:12:26 PM
I rarely read the altcoin board anymore, I'd rather smash my balls with a hammer. Some of the other mods do though.
1050  Other / Meta / Re: Banned account on: May 10, 2014, 01:07:49 PM
I pm'ed this guy yesterday, it's been resolved already.

I doubt it's a permaban just for spamming on a sig deal. Maybe the mod who issued it just forgot to write the duration as has seemingly happened before. I'm sure a mod will update you once they see this thread. PM a mod or something after a day if there's no response.
Well they tend to forget stuff then. They left out the appeal email for me. Although I had found it on some picture around here, I though that theymos would probably not answer it so I didn't even bother.

It wasn't left out, temporary bans have never been appealable because only admins could do it. He added the ability for me to add/remove bans and issue temporary bans a while back since he isn't as available as he used to be, and I didn't want to be an admin.

Contact BadBear. He issued the ban, he should know why, for how long and any other info.
I do have a question on this matter though. When you get banned, why are you prevent from sending PMs even to staff members?
You essentially have to create a new account to ask what and why it had happened, don't you?

Most people know why they got banned, they just play dumb and hope we don't realize it, or they want to stir up drama.

1051  Other / Meta / Re: The trust system is being abused. on: May 10, 2014, 12:40:43 PM
How can somebody post a negative rating without any proof with "BTC risked" being zero?

In real life we can sue for libel. What about here?

How can you clear your name?

This guy:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=37522

gave me a negative rating with 0 BTC risked and description "Another new account + IPO scammer."

This is not "another new account". And I am not an IPO scammer. All the money are still in there and all promises are being kept.

I would kindly ask mods to look into this.

This IS real life, but you'd rather be lazy and have someone else do it for you. No we aren't going to get involved.
1052  Other / Meta / Re: I was given negative trust from staff of BT for stirring up arguments. on: May 10, 2014, 08:50:43 AM
Also pro tip: Notice how PG's ignore tab has no color. Clearly people want to hear what he has to say or he'd be on their ignore lists, especially with that many posts!

Pro tip for you, that feature is disabled.  I don't remember if it was colored when it wasn't though.

1053  Other / Meta / Re: I was given negative trust from staff of BT for stirring up arguments. on: May 10, 2014, 06:31:21 AM
Eh, well I'm with you on that. He was voted in but only members can vote so...  Roll Eyes

As for tysat, he isn't in default trust, only the extended list via Maged, Canaryinthemine, tomatocage, myself, and maybe another one or two.
So I find your assertion that it's because of Brock controlling things behind the scenes of the forum to be... dubious at best.
1054  Other / Meta / Re: I was given negative trust from staff of BT for stirring up arguments. on: May 10, 2014, 05:56:32 AM
So who is Brock Pierce and what does he have to do with the forum? Does he post here?

Edit: I see, https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=602198.0
Still don't see what he has to do with the forum though. That thread is also pretty hard to read with all the Bruce drama thrown in for no reason.

Huh

Im utterly and deeply confused.

My account: howzar was placed under a ban. (you are banned from posting on this forum or sending personal messages)

Could a moderator please clear up the darkness around this? Thank you.

Is it a temp-ban or perm-ban?

I'm not sure, I've been trying to discuss the matter with badbear but he doesn't seem to be online now and banned my other account to prevent me from messaging him.

As soon as I tried to reason with badbear he banned mobo.  So here I am again to try and discuss about this situation.

You are howzar and Mobo?

Yes I am both.

I didn't ban you to prevent you from pm'ing me or asking questions, I banned you because YOU, the person are banned, not just an account. Not only are you a pm spammer, you continued doing it after being banned on another account (Mondy) for it. I don't really see what there is to discuss.

I'm not going to ban you just for posting in this thread though.

1056  Other / Meta / Re: I was banned for no reason? on: May 09, 2014, 06:00:57 AM
Same reason as last time mondy. You send unsolicited pm's trying to buy people's accounts, since you've had accounts banned for it in the past you knew full well it wasn't kosher. Also really annoying to those who get them, stop it.
1057  Other / Meta / Re: HELP!!! Someone has stolen/hacked my bitcointalk username!! on: May 07, 2014, 12:57:13 PM
MODS - Can anyone help?

It will be dead obvious that my account (ibfragalot) has been stolen and changed suddenly. The email address would have changed from my real email [message me for it ] to some other weird chinese address , AND my password reset, AND my password help question would have changed. Perhaps other stuff too.

EDIT: Oh and yes, the IP accessing it would also have changed from Australia since I joined, now to China I'd assume.

I DON'T want to know what he's doing/saying in my name.... Luckily no useful information in my account...I think? Crikey...

Mods can't see any of that so we can't help/verify. Get thee to theymos, but don't waste his time, read that thread and send him everything he needs in one pm to increase your chances of a response.
1058  Other / Meta / Re: Ban Check on: May 07, 2014, 08:51:04 AM
No.

And in general, temporary bans rarely include ips, just specific accounts.
1059  Other / Meta / Re: Solution to Madness - Ghost Protocol on: May 06, 2014, 06:51:23 AM
Yeah I did suggest that a while back. I would greatly prefer to remove the incentive for people to spam instead of punishing them after the fact. Similar to the change from post count based member levels, to activity based, mostly removed the incentive for people to spam posts. These guys are paying people for posts so it's countered that.

Still easy to see how many posts one has knowing there is 20 per page though so wouldn't really be helpful.

Personally I'm a fan just filtering out urls from these services entirely since they're ultimately responsible for the spam.
This makes completely no sense to me. It's like banning cars because people die in accidents. Signature advertising is a great way to let others know your business and there are hundreds of users here who reply on topic, why should they suffer because you, admins, can't find a way to enforce a basic forum rule?

I've been growing my own herbs and vegetables for a long time now, and I figured out a long time ago that cutting weeds when they get too tall doesn't help, need to dig the roots out.

Also, nice attempt at a strawman, but I never said all, just the ones that are promoting spam. There ways to purchase ad space in signatures without spamming the shit out of the forum in the process. TF for example didn't pay per post.  There are others that cap the post count at something reasonable.

There's nothing inherently wrong with ads in sigs, but paying per post, and some are even offering a bonus to the 'top' poster, is resulting in too much spam.
