Happy birthday Phin.  Wink

May you have many more.
1222  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Marketplace rules and guidelines on: March 06, 2014, 07:27:20 AM
4. Bumps are limited to once per day (24 hours), yes this includes "updates", that's what the edit button is for. Old bumps should be deleted as they serve no purpose, and only clutter up topics and make it more annoying to read.
1223  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Giveaway threads are not allowed on: March 05, 2014, 09:59:23 AM
There's been plenty of warning, we've been banning for this for some time. Honestly you got off easy, some have been permabanned, last one was banned for 2 months and all 100+ participants banned for a week. We're serious about stopping the spam.

It's never going to stop if the only penalty is that the thread will get locked eventually.
1224  Other / Meta / Re: Proposal: Disallow Ads in Signatures on: March 03, 2014, 07:50:43 AM
A little too soon to tell, it will take time as we weed out the spammers and they figure out that they need to not spam if they want to be able to participate as they did before. Does seem to have helped but I haven't had much time to actually sit and read the forum lately, spring is coming.
1225  Other / Meta / Re: Proposal: Disallow Ads in Signatures on: March 03, 2014, 07:46:53 AM
Why not force advertisers to pay by activity instead of posts... That way there is less spam...

We'd rather not outright force people to do things. Realistically speaking we couldn't anyway.

IP ban, that's cute.

Yeah I do that just to link to, instead of typing stuff over and over again.
1228  Other / Meta / Re: Questions to theymos about the $1,000,000 forum software project on: March 02, 2014, 12:46:57 AM
He is pretty busy and he has been given a lot of power that he is using the best he can; as far as I understand he probably made a huge mistake with the 350,000$ (was it really 350,000$ when he paid or is it 350,000$ at today's price??) and he doesn't recognise it, maybe he will when it is crystal clear that it was a mistake; the rest of the money is here so it can still be used well

Yeah, d00d, he is pretty busy scratching his balls while the whole forum becomes a den of fraudsters and opportunists. His last amazing achievement was to allow newbies post freely whatever and wherever they want. This was a slap in the face of the moderators and staff which were already overloaded by the influx of meaningless information (a.k.a. spam, trolling, advertising, etc.). I am sure he is more busy looking at fluffy boobs in the university campus where he attend rather than take care of the forum he should administrate.

Yeah can't imagine why theymos isn't rushing in here to participate in stimulating discussion of this caliber.
1229  Other / Meta / Re: Questions to theymos about the $1,000,000 forum software project on: March 01, 2014, 11:57:24 PM
Meh, not much point. Either you think he's stealing or you don't. Seeing a transaction isn't going to change that, neither is anything he says for that matter. I mean if you really think he's stealing, then you wouldn't believe him anyway.

Last time someone reported a similar issue it was Adblock.

I just ignore him, for the same reason I ignore the crazy cat lady that yells at me when I come out of the store.
1233  Other / Meta / Re: Can we get rid of all of these MtGox discussions in Bitcoin Discussion? on: February 28, 2014, 12:53:02 PM
We're trying, they keep making new ones over and over. It's pretty annoying.
1234  Other / Meta / Re: Urgent clarification on "giveaways" on: February 28, 2014, 10:59:58 AM
That's  will be much more convenient if giveaways and promotions will be held in the main coin thread if the thread poster is OK with this

This is not allowed, if said thread is here.
1235  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Janet Yellen makes Treasounous totally False statement on: February 28, 2014, 07:19:55 AM
Someone started their Friday night partying a little early (and has no idea what "treason" means).

Nah he's always like this. Did you ever see his bitcoin constitution?

This threads reminds me of Atlas.
1237  Other / Meta / Re: It's Time For Theymos To Kill The Alt Section on: February 28, 2014, 06:50:54 AM
Also that the altcoin section contains like 700+ coins, versus the one bitcoin. Not so impressive when you look at it like that.

Also that a lot of the posts are just spam. Wonder by how much it would drop if all the giveaway threads were deleted.
1238  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: STOP POSTING RESERVED, ALSO NO GIVEAWAYS/PROMOS ETC. on: February 28, 2014, 05:03:51 AM
Also, if the OP is telling people to post interested in the thread for whatever, that violates the no spam rules and will be closed and violators possibly banned, so report those as well, saw one like that yesterday.
1239  Other / Meta / Re: Proposal: Disallow Ads in Signatures on: February 28, 2014, 04:46:43 AM
I'm also a PD user so I feel somehow that you are also indirectly talking to me  Wink
What do you consider spamming? Do you for instance think I am a spammer, if you have a look at my prior posts? PD also pays only out for constructive posts.

I really doubt PD is looking at every post of every person... actually I'm sure they're not, as that would be a full time job and they could just post themselves instead.  Paid signatures that pay per post encourage spam.

Thanks for styling limitations theymos. Now I can Unignore most of the PD spammers.

The real problem is spamming, because of pay-per-post signatures. We should do something about it. I see a lot of people try to write +1000 posts in a month, so spam is inevitable. You don't have to write every thread you read.
You still can't argue with it being unfair towards the people who don't spam.
Changing signatures only damages the community, banning spammers helps it.
Also as stated above, the main advertising sites like primedice only pay for -constructive- posts.
It's in their interest to not pay out for spam as it gives their service a bad name.

How does changing signatures damage the community?  If the only reason your posting here is to get money, then you really don't belong here.
I nowhere imply that it's the sole reason I'm using the forum, and I know a lot of other people don't that are advertisers don't either.
But knowing there's a slight reward for contributing increases the incentive of making good posts.
Spammers will exist with or without these signatures, for the simple fact that they're not getting paid anyways.
Nothing changes, spammers didn't get paid before signature changes, and they won't get paid afterwards. The only thing that changes is that the non spammers won't get paid either, which -will- lead to less good posts being made.

It somehow feels like you might as well be telling your employees at work "We're removing all salaries because we've a few people here that slack and don't work during the day. I know this will affect the ones that actually are working and contributing, but then again, if you're only here to make money, perhaps you should look for another job." Rather than "We're going to fire the people at our company who we have found are in fact not working during the days".

That's a comparison of changing the signatures to banning spammers.

What a terrible analogy.

And you can't tell me stunna is checking every post, he pays for up to 8k posts a month, unlimited participants. But hey he says no spam so it's okay.

Yes, report them, nothing will get done otherwise.
