All right, restored to archives. They weren't intentionally deleted, but a side effect of one of the mods banning him for spamming.

I don't see them in the trashcan, I'm checking it out. I doubt I deleted them, I'm not in the habit of doing that for the reasons stated already. I do delete threads outright sometimes, but only spam, garbage like begging, altcoin cross posts in newbies, etc.
1323  Other / Meta / Re: Possible spambots "hey, i am fresh here" on: January 28, 2014, 10:34:48 PM
Yep thanks. One of those does look legit, gonna wait and see on that one.

You know whzt they say, you meet an asshole in the morning, he's just an asshole. You meet assholes all day, then you're the asshole.

How to unlock my thread:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=424241.0
It is NOT a giveaway thread.

Says there's a giveaway in the OP, and someone is paying.

Also looks like some are using newly created accoumts to bump their giveaway posts. Might not be a good idea to let people link them from here after all. Or not allow threads that only link to giveaways, only as an addendum in an existing thread.
1326  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: A user here threatened to multi fork Gamecoin within 24 hours. What can we do? on: January 28, 2014, 07:42:13 AM
BCX killed my dog. Then brought him back just to kill him again.

Just my opinion, theymos can agree or disagree, IDC.
1328  Other / Meta / Re: relative size of subfora on: January 28, 2014, 04:57:06 AM
There are several boards missing, most notably Bitcoin Discussion.
1329  Other / Meta / Re: [Petition][POLL] Make new section for giveaways/tasks. on: January 28, 2014, 02:11:06 AM
in the other thread you posted that those people who 'ANNOY' will be banned..... so being annoying wasn't against the rules, but now it is??? maybe that's the part that's confusing, because i didn't read that anywhere outside of you post

That was a response to this post, read the context, then you decide if I'm talking about people being annoying in general, or people who are being annoying by continuing to post giveaways.

I think the "reply with your address" spam bumped threads to the top of the "Unread posts since your last visit" and honestly it annoyed me.

It looks a bit more interesting now.

Perhaps if giveaway threads required claims to be off-site or "Twitter/FB/Website" based, it would have removed a lot of the problems.

The "reply with address" is just the laziest way to do it and the path of least resistance.

A sub-forum that is excluded from the unread posts or has solid rules (like "no rewarding board actions, including reply or post your address") would make sense.

I mean, what about the "Off-Topic" board? Or rewarding altcoin activity with Satoshis? I'm sure those determined to annoy will keep doing it.
1330  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: CEO OF BITCOIN EXCHANGE ARRESTED on: January 28, 2014, 01:36:54 AM
"knowingly contributing to and facilitating anonymous drug sales"

Isn't that's what everyone running TOR nodes doing too?

You should try actually reading the article, your analogy would only be valid if all he did was run the exchange, apparently he did more than that.
1331  Other / Meta / Re: [Feature added] Color besides usernames for Ignored by % of established members. on: January 28, 2014, 01:34:12 AM
So Theymos you got an update on this list?

I think it would be best to not share these lists publicly anymore, some are using it as a competition.

1333  Other / Meta / Re: [Petition][POLL] Make new section for giveaways/tasks. on: January 28, 2014, 12:56:15 AM
We're not talking about trolls, we're talking about people who would intentionally and repeatedly break a clearly posted rule.

once again, if these people were CLEARLY breaking the rules, and weren't banned, then THAT is the problem... just as i said, the admin team let it slide and let it slide, and now it's gotten to the point where it is.... and NOW we are supposed to believe that people will actually begin to get banned??? what is that saying about an ounce of prevention and a pound of cure??

It wasn't against the rules before now, so they weren't breaking the rules. I don't see how this is confusing.
1334  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Giveaway threads are not allowed on: January 27, 2014, 11:42:22 PM
People don't seem to understand. Essentially we are saying, we don't want your coin spam here. Take it to your own forums, Bitcointalk doesn't cater to thousands of threads about *insert coin*. We aren't motivated to keep the conversation here, so a vote wont do anything, we are trying to get you to take your conversations elsewhere.

People that are saying, FIX IT OR WE WILL LEAVE! thats kind of our intentions. Obviously we don't want people to leave the bitcoin discussion here, but we do want you to take the majority of your altcoin discussion elsewhere. This is Bitcointalk, it can't handle the alt coin discussion volume for 600 different coins, so we are asking that you take it to your own forums.

KeyserSozeMC, we are trying to get people to do exactly what you are doing. Creating your own forums for giveaways like you are doing, I actually really appreciate it.

The main point here that is irritating that people are ignoring, if we don't cut down the post spam, IE hundreds of thousands of posts of people just pasting their addresses, we will lose the entire section. I for one would like to keep the Alt Currency section, however people seem to be ignoring the fact that creating a giveaway subforum wont help. We want the excess spam off of Bitcointalk, not just jammed in a different corner.

From the original post in this thread: "Similar threads are already restricted to Games and Rounds in the non-altcoin sections, but the giveaway-related post volume is so high in the altcoin sections that I've decided to just ban them entirely here."

We don't want spam, but we allow spam elsewhere in a specific section for the spam, but we won't make a spam section here because we don't want spam.

I just love this logic......

You don't see the difference in giveaway spam for one coin that this forum was created for, and giveaway spam for 600 separate altcoins? Can't really help you if you don't.

1339  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Giveaway threads are not allowed on: January 27, 2014, 09:42:54 PM
Are giveaways as part of an announcement-thread still allowed?

No, it promotes spam, it's detrimental to actual discussion, and brings nothing at all of value to the forum. It's never been allowed on the forum in general, they are restricted to games and rounds. Alt currencies was different because there was no games and rounds/giveaway forum. I've thought about this as well but didn't care enough to do anything about it, but since theymos did, I support it fully. Y'all need to stop spamming the forum before the whole alt currencies section gets deleted, it's getting to be more trouble than it's worth. I liked the alt currencies section once upon a time, but it's completely and utterly worthless at the moment because of all the spam.

TLDR If your announcement thread has a giveaway in it, it will be locked.

what about premine coin? it's all about giveaway lol

They can still do giveaways, just not here.

i mean a coin called "premine" PMC

Why does it have to be a requirement to post on a forum to receive it?
1340  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Giveaway threads are not allowed on: January 27, 2014, 09:40:33 PM
At the very least why not let the community vote and decide?

Vote? Reminds me of a quote I read on a gun forum I frequent.

"Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for lunch."

If thats democracy then communism is a big bad bear telling the two wolves to go eat grass for lunch. See what I did there Wink. All jokes a side, lets find a better solution. At least a vote allows everyone to have a say. Why not?

There's a poll here. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=434671 People voting are motivated by greed though so it's kind of a useless poll. People who don't want to see giveaways don't need to do anything, it's already done, no need for them to vote. The only ones who would vote would be the ones who disagree.
