1341  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Giveaway threads are not allowed on: January 27, 2014, 09:37:04 PM
Are giveaways as part of an announcement-thread still allowed?

No, it promotes spam, it's detrimental to actual discussion, and brings nothing at all of value to the forum. It's never been allowed on the forum in general, they are restricted to games and rounds. Alt currencies was different because there was no games and rounds/giveaway forum. I've thought about this as well but didn't care enough to do anything about it, but since theymos did, I support it fully. Y'all need to stop spamming the forum before the whole alt currencies section gets deleted, it's getting to be more trouble than it's worth. I liked the alt currencies section once upon a time, but it's completely and utterly worthless at the moment because of all the spam.

TLDR If your announcement thread has a giveaway in it, it will be locked.

what about premine coin? it's all about giveaway lol

They can still do giveaways, just not here.
1342  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Giveaway threads are not allowed on: January 27, 2014, 09:21:15 PM
At the very least why not let the community vote and decide?

Vote? Reminds me of a quote I read on a gun forum I frequent.

"Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for lunch."

wtf

all I've seen from you are attempts to troll and show that you're above everyone.

People make this forum, not wannabe trolls with mod status

Just trying to make the point that voting is a terrible way of deciding things. If you just wanna call me a troll then knock yourself out, been called worse Wink, but at least make another thread for it.
1343  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: STOP POSTING RESERVED, ALSO NO GIVEAWAYS on: January 27, 2014, 09:05:29 PM
Those are already against the rules. Report it when you see it.

1345  Other / Meta / Re: [Petition][POLL] Make new section for giveaways/tasks. on: January 27, 2014, 08:35:53 PM

Perhaps if giveaway threads required claims to be off-site or "Twitter/FB/Website" based, it would have removed a lot of the problems.

You can do giveaways off-site and link to the giveaway page in a thread
That's what he said.

I'm sure those determined to annoy will keep doing it.

They can, they'll get banned for it though.
1346  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: STOP POSTING RESERVED, ALSO NO GIVEAWAYS on: January 27, 2014, 08:27:31 PM
Updated the OP to add a note about giveaways and other forms of promoting spamming.
1347  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [GIVEAWAY] Altcoin GiveAway Forum on: January 27, 2014, 08:00:58 PM
Be careful, don't use the same password there as you do here.
1348  Other / Meta / Re: How can I IGNORE a thread that I've posted in? on: January 27, 2014, 07:41:23 PM
Is there some alternative I'm not aware of, where I can see list B but needn't be exposed to list A?

As far as I'm concerned the behavior in list B is correct and the behavior in list A is wrong.  A is handy for being automatic, but it would be much nicer to have a B-only option, even if it means manually 'follow'ing each thread I post in.

As matters stand I cannot ever 'unfollow' a thread once I have posted in it. And when it devolves into a pissing match about who knows what fractional reserve banking is and what backing a currency means and who is ignorant and who is stupid, I desperately need to unfollow it.

EDIT:

Ah.  There is a 'watchlist' link right below the one I've been using which has exactly the effect I was hoping for.  I understand now.

I have been using it (rarely) for a different purpose, and remained unaware of what it did when there were new posts in "watched" topics.

Thank you for directing my attention to where I found it.  I suggest changing the link text to "show new posts in your watchlist" to make it clearer what it does.

Yes watchlist is List B, I thought that's what you were referring to, asking for it to have the same functionality.
1349  Other / Meta / Re: How can I IGNORE a thread that I've posted in? on: January 27, 2014, 07:10:49 PM
List B was created, in part, because of this problem with List A. Why are you still using it? Is there something watchlist doesn't do?
1350  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Giveaway threads are not allowed on: January 27, 2014, 06:01:16 PM
what part about you are welcome to delete all the ADT giveaway threads don't you understand ?

You didn't say anything about giveaway threads, you said everything besides your repair thread, whatever it is.
Feel free to remove everything ADT related from this forum except the repair thread we will be making 1 new ANN Thread and everything other than that will be of this forum

Along with this quote, it's pretty clear you didn't mean just giveaways, stop trying to troll, you suck at it. Again, this thread is about giveaways and the spam.
whats next limiting each altcoin to 1 thread lol

No? You don't control other people's discussion.

lol other than the 2 threads I mentioned its just giveaways unless you want to keep them ?

Giveaways aren't discussion you dope. And stop trying to promote your coin in this thread, this is about giveaways and the resulting spam.

Yeah the movie one is the one I see the most.
1354  Other / Meta / Re: Different approach to newbies on: January 27, 2014, 05:09:46 PM
No restrictions now. newbies are left loose on the forum and they can do whatever they want (except the time limits). I don't see a very large amount of spam and automated bots though and the mods appear to have controlled it.

Definitely still there, it's just diluted so less noticeable.
1355  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: STOP POSTING RESERVED on: January 27, 2014, 05:09:01 PM
I've been a global moderator (which is the entire forum, includes alt currencies) for over two years. I just don't post much. Spam in alt currencies is getting out of hand lately, so more moderation, so getting noticed more.
1356  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Giveaway threads are not allowed on: January 27, 2014, 04:10:38 PM

I've seen places without spam... How is that possible? Oh.. I know.. They know how to deal with it without shutting down 70% of their traffic...

That 70% of traffic was paid spam, it isn't needed or wanted. I understand people will be upset because they can't pay people to spam their threads and that hurts their bottom line, and they don't care about the consequences to people who actually want to discuss things, but y'all are going to have to get over it, and stop being such drama queens.

Giveaway King, lol.

1358  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: STOP POSTING RESERVED on: January 27, 2014, 03:17:33 PM
Stop posting reserved, watching, subbed, or any other variation of placeholder. It's getting ridiculous, if you don't have anything to say, then don't post. If you're only doing it so you can follow the thread, stop it and use the watchlist instead (all you have to do is hit the watch button, it's even less effort than posting crappy replies). And don't start replacing them with one word comments like "cool" or "like" either, those will be next to go if it gets out of hand.

Report reserved posts and their variations when you see them, they will get deleted.

Thanks for deleting my 2 reserved posts that were saving slots so I could expand the OP as needed

now I have to have multiple parts in 1 post not separated out neatly

once again

thanks !

This is the one legitimate time to do that with SMF character limits, but you should post something besides reserved with all the reserved spam going on lately. I don't remember deleting yours but it might have been me, even if one mod realizes that it's legitimate, not all will.
1359  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: STOP POSTING RESERVED on: January 27, 2014, 01:22:49 AM
Haven't we learnt from history that banning people from saying something Never ever works ? I know it's annoying but now instead of "reserved" people say "interested" or another one word like "cool"

I hated the reserved thing but really who cares, it's part of the free culture of this forum.

I just delete those too, don't bother me. People will learn once they get annoyed enough at having their posts deleted.

And you guys that keep posting reserved in this thread, you really know how to run a joke into the ground. It was funny the first time, tenth time is just dumb. If you're gonna troll at least be original and creative about it.

Yeah I moved some there, somehow I don't think Bitcoin Discussion is the best forum for "guyz how does the blockchain work??"
