781  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Dash price consolidates following a significant correction on: March 05, 2017, 12:53:09 PM
No, seriously, I would love to see DASH overtake ethereum.  I would also love to see it overtake bitcoin

If Dash did that then it would probably get as much mainstream attention as bitcoin. Can you imagine the negative press around the instamine?
I've often said I've been bullish on Dash because of the limited supply, but I'm not sure how it will go if an adversarial media scrutinises it

That's not a problem.

Dash will simply declare anyone in the mainstream press who reports critically on the Instamine is a troll and put them on Ignore.   Smiley
782  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [SCAM] BLOCKNET: The Metcalf/Prom Alt-Coin Cartel Scam Exposed on: March 05, 2017, 12:26:45 PM
Why BLOCK price has fallen so much recently?

Not a clue I'm afraid.

Personally it looks rather nuts to me. Sell before the decentralised exchange is released? Crazy.

At least it's actually a very low volume. Perhaps it's just a couple of people who need the BTC or something.

*Le Two Years Later*

Now do you have "a clue" why BLOCK price has fallen so much?

Does the fallen price still look "rather nuts" to you?

What happened to the "decentralized exchange?"

Perhaps you are the one who was "crazy" for not selling.

"Very low volume" is why BLOCK has been delisted from all reputable exchanges.

Your "it's just a couple of people who need the BTC" explanation was monumentally wrong.

Are you going to own these mistakes, or just keep deleting posts that hold you accountable for your past statements?

I used to think that the instamine was a bad thing, but now I'm really glad it happened.

You used to know better, but the cult propaganda (aided by your own greed) wore down your common sense until it succumbed to the irrational DashNation hivemind narrative.  (Never mind that same hivemind used to deny the Instamine even happened.)

"How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Instamine" sounds like Stockholm Syndrome.

What scammer works nonstop for 3+ years developing a project?

Bernie Madoff ran his Ponzi in plain sight for 30 years before it was busted.  Perhaps Duffield is also being protected by people on the inside?

On March 12, 2009, Madoff pleaded guilty to 11 federal felonies and admitted to turning his wealth management business into a massive Ponzi scheme. The Madoff investment scandal defrauded thousands of investors of billions of dollars. Madoff said he began the Ponzi scheme in the early 1990s. However, federal investigators believe the fraud began as early as the mid-1980s[16] and may have begun as far back as the 1970s.

That was it. If anyone is supporting Bu/anti-segwit agenda, I don't know what to tell you.

It was clear how Roger Ver is simply not able to form coherent arguments, he is too emotional. Johnny was articulate, calm and collected.

And Johnny isn't even one of main coders. I would like to see Gmaxwell debating on those streams, see if they can keep up to the debate outside of computer screen trolling.

My favorite moment is when Johnny patiently explains to Roger that "his mistake, in technical parlance, is called a layer violation."

Ouch!  Better put some ice on that Roger (you filthy casual).   Cheesy

I love this, seriously, amazing work on this. I support this 100%.

Miners have no business deciding on new features. Maybe in the past it was assumed that miners would go along in the best interests of users, but now it's clear that miners have become too political and keen to push their own agenda.

Another reason the Dash instamine matters: it permanently ruined Dash's reputation and ensured the project is widely perceived to be a scam.

It is real, but why Dash's market cap is so huge? Is Eddufield still having those millions of Dash coins? Although Dash is very innovative, it is still a scandal.

Dash's only innovation is finding a better way to mine BTC from speculators' wallets.

Here's the best explanation I've found for why it's pumping.

you aren't a man.

And you won't even show up, because you are chickenshit.

My advice to men is don't create war where you aren't prepared for extreme violence. I personally don't condone unnecessary violence and I avoid violent confrontation where it can be avoided. But I do condone warriors and some native american warriors for example know how to extract your heart with their bare hands so fast that they can eat it in front of you before you die. Really it is not wise to pick unnecessary fights with men you don't know. If you've got some mental problem, it behooves you to get some help before you mess with the guy who ends your miserable life.

IMO you are already a slave. You've defeated yourself and accepted it by being willing cower and cope with a dysfunctional State.

I admire warriors. I am very physical, not just cerebral.

Wow, such a pleasant person.   Cheesy

I must be frank about the technology because we really need innovation that help us reach the goals of crypto and not just half-assed tech from guys who design schemes to siphon off the capital of crypto into their pockets. And again I have studied the SEC regulations and all these marketing to speculators is clearly a violation of the Howey test for being an unregistered illegal investment security. It doesn't matter how you've obfuscated it by pretending the masternodes are in control, the Supreme Court has consistently said that the test overlooks any attempts to obfuscate the economic reality of the situation. Then on top of that is the evidence of deception with the premine and the advertised money supply protocol being altered ex post facto, etc.

And afaik you are a USA citizen, so thus you incur the maximum culpability.

Evan's speculator mining operation hit a rich vein of new bagholders this week.

Evan is mining Ver's million-ounce deposit of anti-Core butthurt, and perhaps a few gullible first world anarchists as well.   Grin Grin Grin

This is a pretty good update on the story.

I must remark that the ability to manipulate the FOMO ignorance of speculators with irrelevant hype is the hallmark of a system where the insiders have worked out some "I'll scratch your back, if you scratch mine" deal. Such deals are possible because the system is not decentralized, but in actuality the private fiat system of those who are profiting off the ability to offer special deals because of the insider control over the money supply and ongoing issue of the money supply.

In short, "Evan Inc" in all likelihood made a deal with Roger Ver and Casey Research. Everybody gets paid off with your money. More dumb "greater fools" money is drawn in, rinse, repeat, and everybody is happy.

What they've done is brought the pink sheets mining stocks corruption (which Casey Research is intimately involved with) into our ecosystem.

Speculation markets are ruled top-down. The only way to move away from "mining the speculators" is to trump them in the adoption market.

I didn't.

Where is the Evolution whitepaper?

How are you possibly going to have it peer reviewed and fix any thereby revealed flaws before the deadline this summer?

Is Dash really going to eschew best practices and put out financial software unreviewed by qualified peers?

It's one thing to roll your own crypto (please don't).  It another thing to roll it in secret, with no open Github code repository nor scrutiny of the whitepaper.

Dashers, any ETA for the "Evolution"?

The developers have pushed up the alpha release date to this summer, although the official page says the end of 2017.

https://www.dash.org/evolution/

That doesn't leave enough time for sufficient peer review of the Evolution whitepaper.

Even worse, if the peer review finds something that needs to be fixed, there is not enough time to do that and review the fix without the deadline slipping.

BTW, where is the Evolution whitepaper?  Where is the Evolution code repository?  Is it being developed in secret, or not at all?

Sorry, but staged tech demos don't count as anything more than a PR stunt.

Yeah by creating dark markets.  Roll Eyes

Peter Todd and Greg Maxwell have said they use Monero as a mixing layer to ensure the privacy of their BTC tx.

That has nothing to do with "creating dark markets."

You do of course understand BTC tx are linkable and XMR tx are not.

So why do you indulge in the fallacious conflation of privacy provision (ie 100% fungibility) with "creating dark markets?"

That reeks of the .gov goon squads well worn parade of terrist/childpron/druglord hobgoblins.

Since you know better yet do it anyway, the simplest explanation does not (to say the least) paint you in a flattering light.

CryptoScam #4 - Dash (w/ "Really Cool Guy" Tone Vays) : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VrKU0Ymta-U
Published on Feb 3, 2017

In this 4th Episode of CryptoScam we explore XCoin --- Darkcoin --- Dashpay. We spend a lot of time on the early days and the events surrounding the insta-mine. We then discuss the concepts of Master Nodes (which is a defacto PoS), DarkSend & InstantX, all of which are extraordinary claims to be useful. We then go into detail on the current promotional efforts by Dash to get adoptions and conclude with what future potential Dash has.

Thank you for posting those crucial links again.  That is all MUST READ INFO for noobs as well as existing Dash bagholders.

Here are some more important Dash Facts.

1.    Darkcoin had a problematic launch: 2 million Darkcoin were mined in the first day (incidentally, there are around 2 800 Darkcoin emitted daily right now, so that should give some level of contrast). This may not seem to relate to your question, but it is important to establish the legitimacy and technical competency of the developer. The fact that the block reward does not match either of the three block reward formulae published by the developer is worrying. This points to an outright scam at worst, pure incompetence at best.

2.    When dealing with a cryptocurrency you need to be able to cryptographically and mathematically prove a particular claim. So in the original Bitcoin whitepaper Satoshi was able to mathematically prove the validity of the longest chain rule. The rest of his cryptographic claims were backed by the papers he quotes (Adam Back's Hashcash paper in particular). Darkcoin has no cryptographic proofs of their claims. This is important, because a cryptocurrency is a manifestation of cryptographic theory, not the other way around. If you try and shoe-horn it the other way around you'll likely find your model unsafe under the most basic of assumptions.

3.    The developer seems to eschew well-defined, anti-fragile, and proven Bitcoin concepts (eg. building a model based on paying for services via micropayment channels) for bizarre models that are poorly implemented and fragile (eg. payments based on uptime make a MasterNode a ripe target for DDoS attacks null-routing that IP).

4.    I have seen no evidence that InstantX transactions are not susceptible to malleability. This means that it is trivially easy to disrupt every InstantX transaction, and the network will fall back to processing them as "normal" transactions.

5.    This malleability approach also allows for easy forking of the network if you own a subset of MasterNodes, whereby your malicious MasterNodes vote for both of your transactions and feed those votes to two groups of miners. The claim made in the InstantX "whitepaper" is that the conflicting messages will "cancel each other out", but once the network is forked that isn't the case, as half the conflicting messages won't even be received by the one part of the forked network. By continuing to run this group of malicious nodes, feeding sets of InstantX transactions that appear to be voted in as valid, you can keep the network split indefinitely.

6.    The entire basis for "anonymising" transactions is based on clients being online at a given point in time, which means that those clients are also open to leaking information via temporal association.

7.    The developer seems to have a grave lack of understanding when it comes to the danger of incentives. The clearest example of this is this table of MasterNode ROI. As you can clearly see, a MasterNode's ROI is substantially higher when there are fewer MasterNodes. Thus there is clear incentive for a MasterNode operator to systematically attack and destroy other MasterNodes, but not so much that the network ceases to exist. Just enough to double or triple his ROI. Incidentally, this is a self-fulfilling prophecy, as in a hypothetical future where Darkcoin is processing thousands of transactions an hour it will require quite a hefty server to act as a MasterNode. The fewer MasterNodes there are, the more work individual MasterNodes will have to do, which means that those run by non-technical people or on cheap VPS's will be the first to go, eventually leaving a group of big boys with big guns operating the remaining MasterNodes.

8.    We've already seen ample evidence of law enforcement turning seemingly anonymous people into informants (eg. Sabu), hacking servers, and infiltrating systems in other ways. It is safe to say that LEA could also outrightly purchase large portions of the MasterNode network. It is impossible to tell which MasterNodes are real and which are owned by LEA (in perpetuity). Unfortunately it appears that the developer's line of reasoning, with respects to "how much" privacy Darkcoin gives you, started with the assumption that a supermajority of the MasterNodes are honest / not being watched / not infiltrated by LEA. This leaves open a huge, gaping hole whereby all of the "mixing" MasterNodes are involved in can be revealed by an owned / compromised majority. I can guarantee that the bulk of all MasterNode operators do not know even the first piece of opsec required to keep from your tin from being tampered with.

9.    MasterNodes can be tricked into believing they can no longer accept new connections, simply by filling up all their file descriptors. It is somewhat trivial to force new connections to a group of MasterNodes under your control.

10.    The developer has no clue how dangerous and stupid it is to chain hashing algorithms, as you open them up to pre-image attacks among other things. As a security researcher who discovered a flaw in chained hashing algorithms in PHP concluded: "The underlying problem is that combining cryptographic operators that weren't designed to be combined can be disastrous. Is it possible to do so safely? Yes. Is it a good idea to do it? No. This particular case is just one example where combining operations can be exceedingly dangerous. But the bottom line: never roll your own crypto. It can have fatal consequences."

I'm really curious why there is such a strong Dash is a scam sentiment among some in the BTC community. Is it because you disagree with the distribution, conduction of the leaders or believe the technology is in some way flawed? We actually did a very comprehensive study of Dash's treasury (https://iohk.io/research/papers/dash-governance-system-analysis-and-suggestions-for-improvement/) and while significant issues were found, they at least appear to be trying to create a decentralized funding mechanism.

I cannot comment on initial distribution nor if any of the founders have a past history of bad actions. I will point out however that despite initial distribution if coins flow to a larger group over time from the founders that the project does become fairly decentralized. For example, Nxt has one of the worst distributions ever and now I suspect coins are fairly well distributed. Of course, Nxt isn't doing so well so maybe its a moot point  Grin

"Fairly decentralized?"  Is that like being fairly cancer-free or using fairly robust encryption?  Or being fairly liberal with use of weasel words?   Cheesy

Your curiosity regarding the origin of "such a strong Dash is a scam sentiment among some in the BTC community" may be satisfied by watching this video.

Dash can be decentralized, or Dash can artificially raise its CONOP to ~$40,000.  They only get to PICK ONE.

I really can't be bothered to download your .pdf (it's 2017 FFS) but here is what it should say, in good old plain text.

Quote
http://daia.group/2017/03/02/review-dash/

Potential risk-factors

Before re-branding to Digital Cash, DASH was launched as XCoin and then shortly later re-branded to DarkCoin (DRK) due to its focus on anonymity.

During the initial launch, the XCoin blockchain got stuck and a relaunch was scheduled. Although DarkCoin was launched with no premine, there was a massive instamine of nearly 2 million DRK within the first day. With a current supply of ~ 7,100,000, this means that 28% of all DASH currently in existance was mined in a single day.

This presents obvious concerns:

   - High possibility that DASH supply is heavily centralized due to instamine
   - Due to MNs earning 40% of block rewards, centralization of supply is only more likely to have increased
   - If MNs are heavily centralized, DASH’s alleged privacy features are at the mercy of whoever is operating majority of MNs

There is no way to verify or guarantee that each masternode is operated by a unique individual making DASH masternode system highly susceptible to forms of sybil attack.

After the instamine, DRK block emission was lowered from 500 DRK to 5 DRK and maximum supply was reduced from 80m to 20m.

Although centralization of supply does present risks, there are some resulting benefits in regards to price. Nearly 4000 MNs are active which means majority of the current DASH supply is ‘locked up’ resulting in lower amounts of DASH being available for exchange. This would allow DASH to have a more ‘inflated’ valuation per coin.

Dash is one man's hobby coin.  Duffield makes ALL the decisions.  He decided to not relaunch and keep his Instamine, he decided to cut emission and exacerbate the Instamine, and he decided to rebrand to Darkcoin and then to Dash.

He also decided to ignore the Masternodes who voted to raise max_block_size to 2mb, just like he decided to abandon his promises for Masternode blinding and ring signatures.

Dash IS whatever Evan DOES.  Nothing more, nothing less.

I'll close with the post former Darkcoin dev vertoe made explaining why she left the project.

i left because i disagree darkcoin or however it will be called next year is not a decentralized entity.

it never was but i ignored it as long as darkcoin was following the same path i was following. the path to total financial privacy. and thats why i am so upset about how this currency is lead by a single person. darkcoin is like an old conservative company with strong hierarchical comamnd structures and a single person on the top of the pyramid. evan duffield.

the rebranding using a detergent name was just a step forward in creating something like apple or paypal. fuck this i tell you.

what we need is a trustless, decentralized and anonymous currency. darkcoin is not decentralized as it still relies on a single person. and this reaches deep into the code base.

the core devs were just a bunch of volunteers exploited for the big thing. the extended darkcoin team was the same with even a lower place to sit on that pyramid. and what was the darkcoin foundation again? right, something to reserve some rights on some names and collect money. who nominated and voted for the foundation board? who does even know who are these guys? how did we learn about the foundation? from local news papers! the team listings kept counting names of people nobody ever noticed before. and they never committed anything visible to the community or the repository. and i was spending 25 hours a day monitory everything that happened in the darkcoin community for more than a year.

the things going on here are fishy, intransparent and rely on a single entity.

i will get out and and will contribute to something decentralized and anonymous. i always hoped darkcoin could fill that void. i cant blame anyone to stay with this project. you are probably investors trying to win a gold donkey. or you are simply trying to exploit every possible vector of profit in the coins space. whatever. you are not here because darkcoin is something it claims to be.

if you disagree with my statement above, i dont care, but answer that simple question: what if evan duffield suddenly announces he quits the project tomorrow morning?

good luck

To answer vertoe's question, if Evan suddenly quits (or gets hit by a bus) the Dash project simply grinds to a halt.  There is no way to replace Dash's dictator for life; there is no plan for succession and even if there was it would be controversial enough to fragment the community.
