7861  Other / Meta / Re: China block VPN service on: January 28, 2015, 11:04:25 PM
As per tons of report and official response, China is not only blocking SNS and google. They are now implementing a GFW upgrade to kill basically all VPN service. Rumour has it that the upgrade will be completed by April this year.

http://www.businessinsider.com/china-blocks-vpns-2015-1

http://news.ifeng.com/a/20150127/43031314_0.shtml

Personally, I could only access bitcointalk via VPN. If that's killed too, any other options?

Did China really blocked Google ? what Search engine does chinese people use then
Anyway , I don't think that you could much if VPN's are blocked , but you can try to buy a cheap VPS and use it to connect to bitcointalk?
There are other search engines, for example, Bing. RDP is certainly possible to use in China. Last time I went there, I used shadowsocks with AES 256 encryption on my phone. For my computer I used VPN.ac.

Tor isn't a good idea as most of the bridges would get block immediately/within a few hours.
7862  Economy / Gambling / Re: Primedice | Most Popular & Trusted Bitcoin Game | Huge Community | Free BTC | 1% on: January 28, 2015, 04:39:37 PM
Do you play slots when you get bored with dice?

no.

Slots have the worse house edge

1% edge is nice because it gives the player a real chance to win.
Yes. It gives the players a chance to win. But at the same time if slots have worst house edge then they also have nice payouts.
I might be wrong but aren't you suppose to be having worst payout with slots than dice if the house edge is higher? games with high house edge isn't suppose to have a better payout than one with lower.

30GB+ now lol

It's becoming insane. Imagine, since bitcoin is taking off and the number of transactions increasing, how HUGE this is going to become in the future...
If you are a normal user trying to use Bitcoin to send payments, just use SPV clients, they are light. If you really want to support the network, find a old computer that is online for 24 hours a day and run a full node there.
7866  Economy / Gambling / Re: Provably fair, correct me if I'm wrong on: January 27, 2015, 11:22:40 AM
Once I read a thread about dice cheating, it says the site admin can control the result, and admin can use new accounts to steal money from investors.
Many sites have been marked as scam for this. Sites can easily manipulate results, nothing stops them from doing so, you would require lots and lots of trust for people to invest in you. For sites like just-dice, doolgus have been well known before the site was even opened. That is what caused people to invest in his site, without trust nothing is possible. Just recently, a scam site called dicebitco.in has been found to be skipping nonce and cheating investors money. They blamed it on the previous developer who inserted malicious code. His activity seems shady and thankfully the site is shut down.
well, but once the malicious code is inserted, the dice stops being provably fair (correct me if I am wrong). So the main issue is how much you can trust the dice site operator? Secondly, to have publicly available long enough observation window on the roll results (test of provability) so that you can make your own idea on how good the site is.
Well, anyone who have access to the server can make changes to the website, including developers, they can very easily modify the provably fair system and cheat investor's money. Site owners will not probably allow third party to review their source code before making changes, you would very likely have to just trust them.
7867  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: how btc-e sends bitcoins without fees ? on: January 27, 2015, 10:59:51 AM
That is not from BTC-e, amount transacted is 0.0001 which is below the minimum for BTC-e Bitcoin withdrawal (0.002). Sending a transaction with 0 fees is possible but it would take sometime unless your transaction priority is high enough, around 0.01-0.1BTC outputs, also a coin age of a few days.

7870  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Do blocks ever get removed from disk? on: January 26, 2015, 11:38:43 AM
It seems that blocks are written to disk in the WriteBlockToDisk function in main.cpp. But I haven't found where they are deleted. Maybe they don't ever get deleted from disk? Once written they are always valid?

They will never ever delete themself and you should never delete them, deleting any part of the blockchain would invalidate it and will require you to download them again. Unless they get corrupted, they will be valid. The Bitcoin core verify every single of the block during start up and they will inform you if it gets corrupted.

Now it finally works for some reason!
Where do I find this wallet.dat that was mentioned before? Thanks for the help!
Have you reinstalled it and made a backup before that? If you want to know where it is, it is at the %appdata% of your computer. You should be able to see a folder called bitcoin and you can open it and see the wallet.dat. you can copy it elsewhere for backup.
7872  Economy / Gambling / Re: Primedice | Most Popular/Trusted Bitcoin Game | 1% Edge | Active Chat | Free BTC on: January 26, 2015, 11:27:33 AM
Another amazing win from hui after 45400 rolls:

why so lucky hitting 9900x? congrats again and again Hui Smiley

hui is very patient and determined in making those bets, but indeed he is very unlucky to have only hit a 9900x after 45400 unsuccessful tries.
Chance of making no win within 45400 rolls = (1-0.01%)^45400 = 1.07%

Even if he hit 9900x after 45400rolls still I think that he would have been in profit. Cause he starts with a small amount and keeps on increasing the bet.

Nice if he do that. That would like doing a martingale technique.

While martingaling you increase the bet by 2x. You cannot certainly use martingale while doing bets on 9900x. Its more of a kind of labourcher technique.
Martingale is basically just increasing the next bet if you lost the previous one. You certainly can increase the bet by a small percentage per bet and it would still be martingale since you are trying to recover your loss and ending up with a profit.
7873  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: mixer on: January 26, 2015, 11:20:42 AM
You also can sell you bitcoin to other altcoins and then buy back with the altcoins. It another way to mix your coin.
But if you have personal info that could lead to you, listed on those exchanges then it may uncover your identity.
Most altcoin exchange do not require verification. If you are paranoid, just withdraw the altcoin and mix it then use a proxy to create new account then exchange it there. Using various exchanges is also a good idea, together with proxy of course.

One less place to get knowledge and news from. This forum is full of knowledgeable people and it's always good to learn from them. Most questions asked would get a detailed explanation within 1 hour. I personally use this forum because of the active community here.
7875  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Anyway to put price ticker in signature? on: January 26, 2015, 11:07:49 AM
At the moment, no. You could suggest it but I don't see it working. It's most likely to be abused like said above. It was the same reason as to why avatars are removed. It should be back with the new forum software.
Well it could be abused only as sql injection, and it could be fixed quite easily.
Other than that, you would see images all over the place. It can be quite annoying and contributes nothing to the discussion. I however, agree that it should be taken back as theymos can just set a option to disable them.

Can you add the other coins, like nxt?
Please read the post above, it is stated as a scam.

This is really one of the worst scam with little effort to hide your traces. Even IF this is actually legitimate, it would probably collapse sooner or later, I don't get why would people participate in these for a quick buck(or lose everything)
7878  Economy / Gambling / Re: 999Dice.com - Just Launched - 0.1% house edge, faucet & earn BTC on: January 25, 2015, 09:27:39 AM
It can't be done -- as they've backdoored the provably fair scheme with a value they control (betId).
Maybe that explain why I mostly got lose streak on this sites at 2x than others, my friends experienced it too..
It might have been just a bit of varience. However, I personally have tried to martingale and it went up by 50% and went back down within 15 minutes then lost it a few minutes later. I haven't verified those bets but those scam accusations should be enough to make me stay away from that site

7880  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: mixer on: January 25, 2015, 04:31:37 AM
Well that is kind of a problem see, what happens if someone is running a big illegal ring and comes into contact with hundreds of thousands of bitcoins?  All of those bitcoins can be traced back to criminal transactions and then be seized... This could be any fraction of a bitcoin that comes into your possesion, aside from newly minted blocks.

Bitcoins cannot be seized without the private key.

What I meant by that is you can get money seized if it is suspected of being used in a criminal way and such I am sure the police would be more than willing to do the same with BTC. Such as what they did with the silk road bitcoins.
If the coins go through a well known mixer address, most people probably won't care. Having taint coins will not automatically mark you as a criminal. For the silk road case, DPR was arrested WHILE using silk road, they have enough reasons to sieze the BTC. If people actually get arrested for coming in contact with tainted coins, everyone using bitcoin would have been arrested.  There are mixer who charge a small fee to exchange your coins to newly mined bitcoin, erasing all the traces.
